Cannot send or receive texts - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Ik ow this has been discussed previously but cannot find a concrete solution. All of the sudden this afternoon sending and receiving texts just quit. I can send MMS messages but not SMS. If I restart the phone it will sometimes work for 30 seconds but then quit again. Texting on this phone has been hit or miss since I got it but now it has just stopped. I've reset network settings, cleared cache and storage. Called tmobile. Turned volte on and off. Nothing has worked. Has anyone else had this specific problem?
I switched the sim to my note 20 ultra and z fold 2 and it works fine. Just not on the oneplus.
Thanks in advance.

I'm on T-Mobile with OP8 Pro and I have the same exact issue!!
Did you also recently update to Oxygen OS 11.0.2.2.IN11AA?
I think that's when my troubles began..
Tried calling T-Mobile and they were no help getting this resolved.
Let me know if you find a solution, and I will do the same

Uninstall carrier services application. Sending and receiving texts is back to normal for me. I read this on the Oneplus forums. Hopefully it will work for you also.

I'm on EE in the UK same after update ,takes 10 mins to receive texts and sending texts just fails

Are you rooted? If not, where did you find Google carrier services? It's been a while since I had to do anything of the sort.

No I'm not rooted ,could find it in apps ,so searched for it in Google play store and it comes up as being installed,so uninstalled it from there

Thank you! This worked. I know people have said to delete this for various texting issues but happy to report it works. I hope it's fixed all the texting issues I've had with this phone since I got it in May.

Glad you got it sorted...

Thanks Google:
[Update: Rolling back] Carrier Services update seemingly breaks SMS on some Android devices
A weird issue affecting some Android users this week see the Carrier Services app blocking all SMS messages, whether inbound or outgoing.

I was worried a little bit because RCS wasn't coming back online. I though I might need carrier services but that just came back 8 hours later. So overall it is working better than when I first got the phone. I was about to switch back to my z fold 2, lol. That thing is a disaster on every other level for me.

MMS Stopped Working Using Google Messenger post-MM?
Within the last few days I can no longer send or receive MMS (group text or pictures) using Google Messenger. I think this might have just popped up with the MM update. My MXPE is on Verizon. Anyone else having a similar problem?
I've looked online and seen info about changing APNs and/or removing any that aren't being used, but I wasn't positive how those apply to MXPE with MM on Verizon, though - most of the posts and troubleshooting guides are a little older.
(I've enjoyed this MXPE forum since I got the phone, just now forced to stop lurking. )

It's a known Marshmallow bug fixed on 6.0.1. If you use Pushbullet, disable it. Otherwise turn WiFi off to get/send your MMS, or download Textra to do it for you until 6.0.1 comes to the MXPE.
Forgive me if this is too obvious, but have you tried powering the phone off and powering it back on again? I also use Google Messenger and am on Verizon, and had the same problem after I updated. Doing a simple reboot seemed to get everything back to normal.

Yeah, reboots didn't do anything. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Messenger, which didn't help. I figured there was something more odd going on, since Moto's stock SMS app worked okay. (I just don't like it much.)
Textra (from the other reply, thanks!) did the trick - MMS messages are working just fine, happily.
Textra is great, it was my messaging client of choice for a long time. The only reason I switched to Google Messenger was because it has better Android Wear support.

not receiving any SMS

Hello everyone. I've owned my 6p since it was first released and have used T-Mobile this whole time. Recently I noticed that no one was texting me so I decided to test it out and text myself and I was right . I wasn't receiving any messages. At the time I thought it might have been something to do with me running a custom ROM so I unrooted and went back to stock and still the same thing was happening. I can send messages but nothing comes back to me. I talked to T-Mobile for a few hours. Literally troubleshooting everything on their end and everything was fine. Full service and all. Now I've been looking all over online and have yet to find anything. The frustration is really getting to me. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? Are there any setting in my 6p that I might need to check out? Please help me guys.
Again. I have full service bars with activated service. I can make calls browse the web and send messages. I'm just not receiving anything. Also I am using stock google messenge
Of the top of my mind, clear google msn cache and data, from configuration> apps> google messenger... also check in hangouts if u have it if the google messenger is the default app for sms..
Once a long time ago, the rom tool box was the default app for sms and instalation of apps, dunno why this happend.. hope it helps, also u can use a third party app for sms and check, or even the hangouts.
good luck.

I contacted T-Mobile and they went through all that with me and my apn was all correct. It's the same apn I've been using the whole time. Also to the guy who said clear cache I fully factory reset the whole phone and re installed every app. I would assume that would clear the cache? It's so frustrating cause everything seems to be working. It's like my phone wants to be stubborn and not receive messages lol
Can you try your SIM card with another phone?
Ok I fixed it. Very weird. I switched to 2g and all texts came through then went back to LTE and continued working
Hey I have the same issue with my OnePlus 3. Stopped receiving sms 3 days ago. I can send sms just fine.
Like note3userr I had rooted my phone, so un-rooted it and did a factory reset, but the issue still persists.
I'm also on Tmobile, my selected APN is T-Mobile US (epc.tmobile.com)
Switched to 2G and back to 4G, as noteuserr suggested. The trick worked for me!
Weird as **** though...

Android 8.0 cant receive texts/sms

I have a rooted Nexus 6p. A few weeks ago I flashed the factory images of Android 8.0 Oreo to my 6p. Flashed TWRP and rooted with magisk. For about a week or so everything was fine...then approximately 72 hours ago I could no longer receive text messages from anyone. I can send texts just fine I just can't receive them. I have full bars of service with 4g LTE. I can surf the web, use Facebook and any other app requiring data. I can make and receive phone calls.
I've tried everything. Removed the sim, rebooted, checked APN settings, cleared cache, wipe data, tried various different SMS apps. I even wiped the device and reflashed Oreo via fastboot again. Nothing.
I called TMobile they have no idea what's wrong. I called Google and they were of no assistance.
I'm going to try and flash the last nougat factory images later from Google and see if that helps. Before I do that I wanted to see if anyone here could offer some suggestions I haven't already thought of.
Thanks!

I would go get a new SIM provisioned for your phone at TMo for free. Are you pre-paid or post-paid?
I was planning on it. However around 0930 this morning all of my missing text messages came flooding in. SMS seems to be working fine now. Would still love to know the trigger of this issue.

Cool. Likely a carrier/plan issue.
You didn't happen to have an Ad Blocker installed? I had the same issue on a different phone, and that was the culprit.

Yes. I use adaway and adguard. Never had an issue with them not allowing me to receive texts. I'm also running both right now and sms is working fine.
Did you restore messages with titanium backup? If so make sure you have switched messaging back to the default app. Had the same happen to me.

Well adaway definitely was blocking my SMS. As soon as I removed it and rebooted phone the msgs came flooding in.

Adaway is a host file fetcher. It has nothing to do with SMS and does not interfere with it. Try it again. It's the best one out there.

SMS / Text issues? I'm not receiving some text?

I'm on the latest At&t firmware (October 1st security patch)...It's also a stock At&t phone
I noticed it a couple weeks ago, I wasn't getting replies to all my text.....Then my friends would call me, or I'd call them and ask why they stopped replying.....But they'd send me a screen shot (to my email) and they replied multiple times, but I never get them.
It happens at random times, in the middle of a conversation too... I'll get some, then I just don't get any more? At first, I thought it was my friends with iPhones, but a buddy of mine has an S7 and I don't get all his messages either.
I've tried:
Yaata, Textra, Chomp, Pulse, Android messenger, and the stock Samsung messenger (which I hate)......And they all have the same issue.
Any fix to this?

Yes! Att's version of it for some reason is absolute GARBAGE! Anytime I've used it on ATT I have the same issue. Sudden drop outs, no replies or I'll get replies but when I turn off wifi I get messages from the same person sent hours earlier. It's horrendous. I turn it off and don't use it at all!

Cant send SMS... Sometimes?

I'm hoping somebody has experienced this before and found a fix and can help me out...
All day I've been struggling to send SMS messages... I'm on 11.0.1.1, magisk rooted, with RICE installed. Everything was working great but today when i woke up, i was unable to send SMS messages...
I'm receiving them, but sometimes they are delayed and i get a few at a time with nothing coming in again for a short time after that, but i've made no changes to my phone in the last 2 days. I've rebooted a few times between then and now (twice yesterday, just because), so i cant really understand why i would just randomly be unable to send text messages or why they are received in bursts like this?
I've gone in and reset my "Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth" settings from within the reset options, and this appears to fix the issue, but only for a minute or so and suddenly they stop sending again... I thought maybe its the tower, so i used my daughters phone to text my wife and that worked perfectly fine. Immediately before and after, mine wouldnt send.
Any ideas, links, or guidance that might help me figure this out?
Since there's been some updates and no responses to my thread, i wanted to revisit this and see if i'm still the only one on earth with this issue.
The issue seemed to have completely gone away on its own, no idea why or how... But a couple weeks ago i decided to install the update to 11.0.2.2 on my IN11AA. Ever since, my phone will randomly stop receiving SMS messages completely. I can still send, just cant receive. The only way to fix this is to reboot.
Anyone else with this issue? Anyone find a reason for this? A fix perhaps?

Seeming this issue doesn't seem to be widespread, could be a carrier side issue?
It's a shame we don't have dual boot capabilities because you could have switched to stock and checked.
Also try a secondary SIM from maybe someone in your household and send using that SIM and see what happens.
I know there are delays after rebooting, I do a lot of magisk module work and every reboot try sending notifications using SMS or some other methods and I get around 3 mins no send or receive but not at the length you do.

I just had the issue again yesterday. Wife and I started texting eachother at about 8am, except, i didnt receive any of her messages until 5:30pm when she got home and told me she had been texting me. I rebooted 3 times, which once usually resolves the issue but not this time. I had to go into the settings and reset my WiFi/Mobile/Bluetooth settings, then it worked immediately.
Because of the solutions, i wouldnt think its a sim issue, but im going to test it anyway. I've factory reset a few times in the past and i still get the issue. I've had the issue while rooted and not rooted. Four of us have phones, 3 are Samsung and then there's mine, and mine's the only one with the issue.

What SMS app are you using? I wonder if you have enabled RCS messaging the new Google style messaging? Because maybe it uses WiFi to download some of the SMS, and if your carrier doesn't support it maybe you only receive it when you are on WiFi.
Try on WiFi then try just on mobile data and see if you notice.
I attached a photo check the top setting. Google might be persisting your setting (if you are using Google messages)
Also why don't you and your wife try a simnswap next time you happen and you are both at home, if your wife doesn't receive it then it's sim/network related.

I'm using Google Messages, and yes i do have RCS enabled. I dont believe thats the case though because the messages that are blocked are sometimes just an "ok" message. I'm almost always on WiFi though too.
The primary issue with sim swapping with my wife is that we would need to swap sims for up to 2 weeks since sometimes I have no issues for 2 weeks, then i get the issue once or twice a day for three days. The worst part (for me anyway) is that her screen is SHATTERED on her phone (she's using a Note10+) and its hard to see anything, so i've been trying to get her to get a new phone. I think we might be FINALLY upgrading her (after 5 months) to an S21 Ultra, so maybe we'll give that a shot there.
I'm actually wondering if it has something to do with messages for web. I've noticed that the issue only really happens after using that, but.. It doesnt always happen after using messages for web, so it might just be a coincidence.
I'm pretty sure its not Google Messages, or RCS, and fairly certain its not messages for web, because i used to use Signal only, and i still had the issue a few times.

When you say "ok" are you just sending short messages or the suggested replies by Google?
I had problems with auto reply in notifications for a while.
Tbh I just use telegram or signal becuase they don't require being connected to the device directly when using the web/desktop versions.
Yeah swapping for 2 weeks isn't great!
Interesting you had this issue with signal too, sounds like Google cloud messaging (needed for any app push notifications and messaging) is in a standby mode.
You got naptime or servicely installed? Shame no one else is seeing this issue might be easier to diagnose
