If i were to flash over my stock OS, what do I need to delete (without losing pictures etc). I keep forgetting..
I have read that TWRP has some errors when flashing, not sure what this was.

Hi
You can try side-load, but you need backup for sure.
my device is root and bootloader is open and I have already Nougat beta ver. before there so my upgrade was quick and all files and settings remains.

So you just flashed the zip in TWRP and SuperSU afterwards? Or did it take additional steps?

No additional steps. Flash the zip, supersu and wipe cache and everything is working fine.
I'll give it a shot eventhough i'm still on 3.5.4 and not the leaked beta.
I'm guessing as this will have the original boot.img (kernel), as no custom Nougat kernels are yet built (have to wait on the source code) that it will once flashed Encrypt the phone again? Thus the need for the pin/password for twrp?
No point in flashing Open Beta; th official stable OTA is coming tonight too.

So seems there are soon to be two channels beta and stable coming. Great stuff!
Are the sources for ROM and kernel up yet?
Can we side load this over the top of the leaked nougat ROM ?

Hello everyone,
For a while now, I have been delaying this, because I can't afford to lose the content that I have on this device
I have a Oneplus 5 OxygenOS 5.1.4 release that I can't install. Everytime I do, it just fails, and reboot. A while after, I have a new notification telling me that the update is available
My phone is not rooted but I think the bootloader is unlocked. TWRP isn't installed either
Is there any way for me to easily update my phone witout risks of losing what I have on it ? Might be a dumb question, but I'm a huge noob
Thansk a lot for your help

Do you get the bootloader unlock warning message at boot? Is the device new or used? You want to update from 5.1.4 to 5.1.5 with ota right? Does the ota download 1.7GB or detect root before downloading?
Hello strongst and thanks for your answer
The phone is old but it's always been mine. I rooted it a while back but I reinstalled everything, which is why the bootloader is unlocked even tho the phone isn't rooted.
I do have the warning message when I boot
I'm trying to update with OTA indeed. When I do so, it downloads the update, reboots, and then I get this :
"Instaling, please wait..." and a few seconds after "Installation failed"
Then I just rebot the phone and everything is back to its initial state

I'm guessing it downloads partial ota and not a full rom like about 1,7GB so the update fails. In case you have twrp you can easily download the 5.1.5 FULL zip from here and flash it https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190
I am sorry that my answer wasn't complete.
- I do have the bootloader message
- The device is a year old, but only used by me
- It's trying to download 5.1.4 OTA which is 1609MB. It downloads everything and tries to install it
- No root is detected
- I don't have TWRP on the phone
Thanks for your answers
Best way it simply install latest TWRP like Sian, do a dirty flash with the full OOS Rom package (5.1.7) for force update.
1/ Do a full backup of your data / sms / pictures on your computer (just for be sure, you must always backup for big changes, especially with encrypted roms)
2/ install TWRP Sian
3/ On TWRP > Wipe > Dalvik/ART - Cache paritions
4/ Install > the latest stable OOS 5.1.7 Rom
5/ Just after that flash Magisk (if you want keep the custom recovery) or don't flash Magisk (stock recovery will erase TWRP after SetupWizard)
Hello Pho3nX, thanks for your answer.
I tried to figure out what "TWRP Sian" is, but I couldn't find anything. I found this one : https://twrp.me/oneplus/oneplus5.html and I'm planning on following the "Fastboot Install Method". Is that OK ?
Do you recommand me to flash Magisk ?
Thanks a lot

Hello everyone, could anyone help me to migrate from ROM xXx to Android 9?
I am currently using the ROM xXx but when trying to switch to another ROM I have problems with bootloop.
I tried following the procedures outlined in the last comments of the original thread but did not succeed, could anyone help me with a step by step to get out of the ROM and go to version 9 of android?
Here is some information that may be helpful in finding a possible solution:
Actually ROM: xXx No Limits 4.3 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xxx-nolimits-1-1-speed-ram-optimized-t3627121)
New ROM:OxygenOS 9.0.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003)
Device is decrypted
Bootloader Unlocked
TRWP 3.2.1-X blu_spark v8.61
In some attempts to install ROM the TWRP returned me error regarding vendor partition.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

You'll need to be on your PC for this. Make sure you backup anything you want to keep from Internal Storage:
OOS:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190
1) Wipe and Format everything in TWRP.
2) Move OOS 5.1.3 (Full Zip) to Internal Storage
3) Install 5.1.3 and nothing else (You will lose TWRP, but don't worry abut that now)
4) OTA up to 5.1.7
5) If you don't get offered OTA to 9.0.1 use full zip from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
6) Once on OOS 9.0.1 you can use Fastboot to flash latest Codeworkx TWRP: https://sourceforge.net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/16.0/cheeseburger/recovery/
If you want to install a custom ROM after that:
7) Wipe and Format
8) Install Pie ROM/Gapps etc

Thx for Help dude, but i have a problem.
I backed up my stuff and joined TWRP, after joining TWRP I went to WIPE> Format Data.
After that I passed the file from ROM 5.1.3 to the internal memory of the device and went to install and started the procedure, but doing so returned an error and I would like you to help me if it were possible.
The following message was displayed:
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7

ok, i will re-download the file and try the installation again.
I downloaded it again and tried the installation but again I got the same error when trying to install.
I am doing the download again but this time I will try to download without using download managers, in the previous attempts I used the Internet Download Manager (IDM) to do the downloads, do you recommend some download manager or browser?
I will also download via mobile data on the 4G network.

I downloaded the file from ROM 5.1.3 on the phone and again it returned the same error, I will try one more time.
Please give me your opinion, is there any version of TWRP that is recommended for installation? is it not the version I'm using that might not be reading the file?
Anything else, do I need to install 5.1.3 exactly or can I get a version prior to it?
There's something wrong in the middle of it, but let's keep trying.

It could make things easier. If your phone still boots into OOS, go into Setting and scroll to the very bottom and select About Phone. Look at what Oxygen OS you are running. What you need to do is get that version all the way up to 5.1.7. Once you are there, you can just flash 9.0.2.

I have not tried to install 5.1.4 yet, I was trying to 5.1.3 as it was suggested, I will download version 5.1.4 that is in this repository (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190), and I will try to make the installation clean, ie format all the data, move the ZIP into the internal memory and try to see if it works.
I will try to clarify about the patch in case I try to reinstall ROM No Limits I need to install the full version which is 12.0 and patch 4.3 is just an update patch for the latest version and I can also go back to version 12.0.
Version 5.1.4 I have not yet tested if I can install it without errors, I will do it soon and I will come back with the result.
I think 5.1.4 should do the trick. I would highly recommend you wipe everything including systems, internal and data. This will pretty much give you a blank phone. Connect the phone to your computer and copy over 5.1.4 to the internal storage through TWRP, it should be the only file you see in your sdcard. Flash it and you should be good.

Okay, I'll do the test and I'll come back soon with the result, I'll change the version of TWRP too, this may be the problem.
Bringing the result of a few more tests, I first changed the recovery version, I went to the twrp-3.2.3-0-20181031-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img as suggested and after that I formatted all the data and started to appear a new one Error that was Failed to mount '/ vendor' (Invalid argument), I tried to install the 5.1.3 ROM and also to 5.1.4, which it was indicating was installing but at the end of the installation again I returned the error Failed to mount '/ vendor '(Invalid argument).
After that I reinstalled ROM No Limits 12.0 v. 5.1.3.
Does anyone know how to solve this new error?
Hello
As the titel says..

Log in twrp says:

Checking for digest files
Skipping digest check: no digest file found
vendor partition is not existed, exit ota!!
Updater process ended with Error: 7
Error installing zip file
I have no idea if its even possible to do this if i need other updates first ect.
Kinda rookies now haha..
Iv'e searched forum for help dunno if ive searched wrong or not, but couldnt find any help.
You have to install version 5.1.4 based on Oreo 8.1.0 and boot up the phone to enable vendor partition. Then you will be able to flash the latest Pie OS. If you want a faster way, you can use the 9.0.9 EDL package, but you will lose all data
Well i had a friend that said i could just install 9.0.9 firmware, well now ive ended up witj a phone which i cant enter.. Can still open fastmode and twrp but i cant add files on phone.. Any ideas on how to fix this mess?

So they changed the partition layout with Oreo? I am asking because I currently have the exact same problem.
Currently stucking on 7.1.1 with the same errormessage. I will try to upgrade to Oreo first and then move over to Pie. Thanks.

Yes, with the version 5.1.5 Project Treble was adopted and it requires a new vendor partition. That partition was created with 5.1.4, so if you are on a version lower than 5.1.4 you will need to install that version, boot once (the repartitioning is made during Android boot, not during the install) and then you will be able to upgrade to latest Pie version.
If you want to upgrade in one step, you can use EDL tool, but you lose all your data. Anyway, I advice you to do so because a format is a good operation when upgrading the Android version

You can install the latest ROM ONLY if you are on a version that is 5.1.4 or newer. If you are on an older version, you have to first upgrade to 5.1.4 and then the newer version (Android 10 will be out in the next months)
Feedback: Works great. Moved to that version, rebooted once, upgraded directly to latest OOS (9.xx whatev) with success. Thanks for all your support & comments!

Is it possible to downgrade from 11 to 10 without twrp? And without wiping my phone?
You will be wiping your phone if you want to downgrade from A11 to A10. No way around it.

No. Downgrade will wipe all in youre phone, but it can be done just by flashing downgrade rom with Settings > System updates > Local Upgrade.. No twrp needed.

The MSM tool is a way back. Never done it but should be safe.
dladz, my friend, MSM is the ultimate resort, when you got booboo..
1.Downgrade rom
2.FastBoot rom
3.MSM tool

MsmDownloadTool is the best way I found to downgrade from OOS 11 to 10. I have tested on OP8P. If you use the tool your data will be lost.

Ha.
I'll be honest I've never used it pal.
Seems to be the only way without twrp.
The times I've not been able to boot I've just wiped system. Always does the job.
I used a few times Downgrade, FastBoot rom, MSM on my OnePlus phones, since OP3 to OP 8 Pro. All of these are Life Savers.
And i did a clean flash all the time, till the latest 2 phone models.

Sometimes you will need to use MSM Tool.
It's possible to break only one partition and there is only one way with MSM to fix that. Even fastboot rom or OTA won't fix that. I had that once with my OP7T and also saw some other guys reported that issue.
