I just got the OnePlus 8 Pro with Android 10 and the one mod I can't seem to find is the ability to revert to vertical recent apps. I am willing to flash any ROM, install any launcher, and even downgrade to Android 8. But I can't find any guide that's been successful at restoring vertical apps on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Anyone have any luck with this?

I wish... I've posted about this too and apparently either no one wants to go through the trouble of making a module to add this in or no one really cares that's much in the first place.
To me the horizontal recents menu is a huge step back in functionality compared to Oreo.

Thanks for the clarification. Disappointing they would lock that down. Wondering what Google's reasoning is for that. I've learned to live with it but it's always clunky trying to use it as fast as I used the vertical recents.

Just my personal $.02 from having used a couple of different ROM setups in the last month or two:
It seems to me that Launcher Pro works much better with Cyanogen than with MIUI. I originally ran MIUI with LP, but ran into some problems:
- LP would freeze on startup quite often. Problem could be fixed by 'force closing' LP, or giving it a long time for bootup. But still kind of annoying
- Occasionally my LP applications pane would lose all the apps. In other words, when you went to open up your applications list, it would be empty. A hot reboot would fix this. Again, annoying.
Because of these LP issues (minor but a hassle), I stopped using LP and set up the MIUI launcher to run the way I wanted to:
- put all the apps into a couple of folders to clean things up
- used Beautiful widgets & folder organizer same as I did in LP
However, I just don't like the MIUI launcher as much:
- Only allows 4 launcher icons on the bottom of the screen
- No secondary action on icons at bottom (cannot swipe icons for secondary action)
- cannot customize icons at bottom of screen
- cannot 'loop' screens around
So, I switched to Cyanogen to get back to LP. Voila - day 2 (yes its early), and it seems to work great. no bugs with LP yet, and super fast smooth. I really like using LP, and based on that preference, I have to give it to Cyanogen. There are things I miss from MIUI (hot reboot, great toggles on drop down), but some things that are better about Cyanogen (can turn off swipe when I have the pattern lock enabled).
But overall, my personal experience is that Cyanogen and LP Plus run better together than MIUI and LP Plus.

You have a few facts wrong about miui.
1. I've had 6 icons on the bottom dock with miui
2. You can customize the icons, use theme manager.
Just wanted to make sure you're aware of these features!
Sent from my HTC Incredible
lpp is my choice.miui doesn't have 3 scrollable docks. I love the lpp widgets for easy productivity and lpp uses themes and can change icons on home if needed. I use cm7 themes from market which also makes me content for app drawer icons
Something else to note is that Widgetlocker now works very well with android 2.3.5 (presented in latest versions of MIUI and CM7)
some screenshots of it while using CM7 attached
---
Little more back on topic, MIUI is better for those who like more theming options.
CM7 isn't as great in that area, but for my tastes I've customized my phone to where I don't have any need for additional theming options since CM7 + LPP provides a pretty decent amount of ways you can customize the looks.
not a fan of miui lock but I do like agile for sense 3.0 lock for cm7
There are a ton of MIUI lockscreen themes including sense 3.0 ones, if you're into that kind of thing
Lockscreen theming is a big reason MIUI>CM7 for me, including how you can mix and match theme elements and customize basically everything.
And TheWhiteBandito is right, you can have up to six icons in the dock and you can use whatever icons you like. I'm not sure why the OP had issues with LP+MIUI, I can't personally speak to it but I know many people use alternate launchers (including LP) on MIUI without issue.
big thanks to TheWhiteBandito and k_nivesout for correcting me on the six icons & also changing the icons themselves.
There are several subtle things that work better for me with CM7 & Launcher Pro. Generally my perception is that it's faster & more stable.
Since I use the security lock pattern, the theming of the lockscreens is not so useful to me because I'd rather bypass that entirely & just use the security pattern instead of having 2 screens to go through to unlock my phone.
At any rate, it probably comes down to exactly how you use the phone & your personal preferences. But I stick with my original point - if you are a big fan of Launcher Pro, I think it works better with CM7 based on my experience with it on both ROMs.
Lastly, don't get me wrong - I think MIUI is a GREAT ROM, and I've installed it both on my phone and some of my friends phones, and I'd happily use it again.
I would tend to agree that it does come down to how you use your phone. CM7 has some advantages, and so does MIUI, just depends on your preferences and needs. It's good to see open discussion on pros and cons of roms without the "my rom is better than yours" element being part of it.
Just moved back CM7 after flashing MIUI to give it a try. It seems to be a very well built ROM, fast and stable. The one thing that did MIUI in for me was that I couldn't get swype to work. The installer couldn't license the app correctly, I attempted a few suggested solutions but ultimately gave up when I read a post on the swype website stating that it will not license. other than swype, I'd say that MIUI is one of the best ROMs that I have flashed (right up there with CM7).

MIUI is definitely a top ROM. Very unique and at this time it's pretty stable too.
When I ran MIUI, it was very stable until I'd flashed about 20 new releases without wiping caches even, (including making the transition from FroYo to GB) and I loved the themes. Then I went to CM7. WOW. I last tried it at 7.0.4, 7.1RC1 is so much faster for me than MIUI OR CM7.0.x. It aslo seems a bit more stable, and everything just works. I use GO Launcher EX, and it seems a bit faster on CM7 but I am running CM at 1GHz, MIUI I UC'd to 806 MHz

I can understand not being able to tolerate a ROM if Swype won't work. I run MIUI and have Swype running; followed the steps here:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-generate-license-for-swype-3-0-beta-on-miui-android/
..to get it working.
The only thing that I "don't like" about MIUI is that it doesn't support scrolling widgets (Pure Messenger).
Hello all. Just installed omnirom on my nexus 7 flo and everything works fantastic. There is a little problem whose solution i couldnt find even after hours of searching. My right app icon in app drawer disappers everytime i reboot. It doesnt matter which app icon i put in there. Only the right icon deappears.
Details
Device: nexus 7 2013 16gb
Firmware: omnirom 4.2.2(official)
Recovery: twrp 2.6.0
Gapps: pa gapps( stock 270 mb)
Launcher: omnirom default
anyone help
Please anyone help. This bug is killing me its so annoying
Disappearing icon
My last icon on the right also disappears. I'm using an Xperia tablet Z, SGP311.
I love the ROM. Android development is completely alien to me but when I have time I'll start over on the XDA university site. Now I just have to build one of those signatures that says what my device is and all that.

I'm having the same problem on the Nexus 10.
Great rom apart from this minor annoyance!
FWIW, I'm using Nova Launcher on Nexus 10 with dock set to have 6 icons and I'm not having this problem. Could be an issue with a specific launcher or setting, hard to know without more information from those having the problem.
New quick settings tile editing option is great!

Stock launcher. Ie the launcher that came when i installed omnirom. I didnt install any other launcher, but now i am considering to switch to other launcher. I have tried many free launchers before but didnt like most of them. Care to suggest a simple launcher without any annoyances(like ads and pay to unlock certain feature)??

Nova. It's brilliant. There are some features which are only available in the paid version but nothing that affects the use of the launcher.
Oh, and the disappearing icon is not an Omni problem - its a problem with the GEL itself.

+1 on Nova. I had a low-spec device a couple years ago and tried all the popular launchers at the time. Nova seemed fastest, easiest to use, and has useful features. As far as I know the free version doesn't have ads and has plenty of good features. Nova Prime has some additional gestures that can be set to open favorite apps, which I love, because I like a clean home screen.
nova launcher is great

Hey so the Android Pie recents is total utter crap. Is there an easy way to get an alternate recents? Maybe a build.prop edit? I'm rooted Btw so can try many a thing. Thanks!
P.S. Gonna probably go back to buttons too because the gesture for recents drives me nuts.
I would like to know also, but I'm not rooted. The scrolling in it is terrible. If i swipe too fast, it goes through several windows at once. If i scroll too slowly, it bounces the same window back in. I can't use navigation bar because i use long-press of home button to turn off screen.
If you guys are rooted, install a second launcher and Freeze the Oneplus Launcher. You will be back to the old recent. Enable the buttons as well.

It's a pie feature that is built in in the default launcher
On the odd occasion a launcher can go whack, if you have another it will automatically go to it or bring you a toast to go to it.It's a rare occurrence but for this reason it's good to always have two functioning launchers, you don't need to set the spare up, it's just there for an emergency till you can get home or whatever and figure out why your launcher is hung. I've diabled the stock launcher myself and use Action but picked up a spare on the play store just in case.
Hi,
In every other android based phone I've owned I've always had an option to hide apps I don't use allot so you just drag an app up to the top and there are usually two options: Uninstall and Remove which places it in a vault for safe keeping. This doesn't seep to be present on this phone and I HATE cluttered desktops so I'm a bit bummed about this so I thought I'd reach out and see if I'm not figuring this out.
I am now aware of the right swipe that brings me to some other settings but there is no app vault there for hiding apps I don't use.
Also is there a way to uninstall allot of the bloat ware this phone came with? I use Google apps for most of my needs and Opera as my main browser so having these other apps on board isn't much to my liking and again without a vault of some kind to take them off of hte desktop...... no fun!
I do know about the combining apps into "folders" and renaming them but I'd just like the apps GONE that I don't and never will use.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
You could just download another launcher with the option to vault apps and about the bloatware you can follow this tutorial right here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/remove-redmi-note-7-bloatware-root-t3925049
Can you recommend a launcher that's stable and good? I've tried a few on my tablets but ended up going back to the default as they were mostly unstable... I'm sure it's going to be different on a phone but it was a bit disheartening to try about 4 launchers on my Lenovo tablet and just didn't like them at all.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Nova Launcher is pretty good
Give a try to poco launcher.
Very stable.
I use Evie Launcher, lightweight amd simple to use

You can try CPL (Customized Pixel Launcher) from playstore. I guess CPL is the best in term of stability, optimizations and LOTs of customization, you wont find in any launcher IMO
No need for Nova launcher or Poco ,new system launcher alfa version ,have new options , swipe up to app drawer..
Hmmm, but if there is an App Drawer in a newer version of the launcher that ships with this phone I wasn't aware of that but the main thing for me, besides the drawer or vault or what ever it's called (too many strange labels to understand what I'm trying to say ) I really need that bit when I'm dragging up to allow me to remove the app from the desktop. In the default there is that weird option that seems to replace the "remove" option.... called "Dual apps" which I have NO IDEA what that's all about and really don't care.
I'm using Poco and it's nice enough. I love the dark theme option but one thing I am missing is when one gets new phone calls or texts the icons in the lower bar area usually changes to indicate how many there are waiting. With the Poco set up there doesn't seem to be any indicators like that... or perhaps it's because I changed the icon set out?? Not sure what's caused that to stop working.... Weird.
Thanks for all the suggestions good people!
Hello,
I'm used to Nova Launcher and physical buttons for many years. Since I switched to the OP8P I use on-screen gestures and OP launcher.
Today I tried Nova and opening the recent apps screen takes more time than the stock launcher and it's not smooth.
Is it a known limitation?
Thank you.

Works flawless on my device
Do you use 120hz display settings or 60hz?

120hz
It only happens when I open the recent apps from the homescreen. No problem from Firefox for example.
Did you tweak something in Nova to improve the gestures?
As a workaround, I now open the recent apps screen with a swipe up from the homescreen.
No I didn't change anything,
I normaly use the 3 buttons but I tested it with the gestures earlier and it works super fast.
Thats what it looks like

OK so it seems you have the same problem.
With OP stock launcher, you can swipe up then hold to the left to directly switch to another app.
With Nova launcher, you cannot hold and directly switch to another app. You have to release your finger then press again to select another app.
Ok than it´s normal behavior in nova launcher i would say.
Im not familiar with gestures, but couldnt you switch between apps with a swipe from the left or right side directly?

Sure I can. Not a big deal to press again the screen to select an app but it's not as good as OP launcher.
