I'm running CM7.2 with the stock CM kernel and no CPU tweaks.
About a week ago my camera just up and stopped working, "Activity camera (in application camera) is not responding". All the screen does is turn black, no camera controls with a black square where the viewfinder should be, simply a full black screen.
At the time I assumed that it was because I had been on airplane mode, and had then disabled airplane mode while having spotty coverage. I got back to civilization and rebooted the phone, and it did not help. Then I cleared the data for both the camera and the gallery, no luck.Google-ing around a bit I came across a thread, on xda, that suggested clearing the files from /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/. I did so, but the camera still locks up. I also found a thread the suggested to delete all of the pictures in /sdcard/DCIM/. I moved them all off the SD card and onto my computer. At this point I assumed I hosed something low level up, and resorted to a full wipe and re-install. This didn't work either. At this point I'm beginning to suspect that this is a hardware related failure.
Anyone have any suggestions of things to try? Is there a way to get debug messages from the camera app?
Sounds like you've been pretty thorough
You could try logcat. Not sure about debug. Anybody?
Have you tried a different Rom, or 3rd party camera app

Um try looking for a camera app via Google not the market. And see if it helps. On the SkyTouch rom thread you can find a link for the miui camera. Hopefully that'll help.

I tired instagram, gtalk video chat, and a heartrate monitor that uses the camera, all of them force close. I have not tried another rom yet, but i might as well try out one of the ICS/JB roms at this point.

I'll give that a shot as well. I'm not holding my breath.
What is funny is I got a text from T-mobile saying I was eligible for an upgrade today... Maybe I just upgrade to the GS3.
After open 6 update, I notice that photos looks worse than in open 5 and some functions like hdr are not working. Is the camera service not working?

Wait for the open 7. Sad but true. I tried everything that you can imagine. The only way that I fixed this, was installing the oneplus camera mod. The problem seems to be with the new camera app or camera service. The stranger thing is that I only saw you and another guy complayning about this.
Did you both clean installed Open Beta 6? Cleaned cache?
Sorry if this seems trivial but to have the same common ground it would be helpful to know this.

Sure. The problem is with latest camera app (2.5.25). I uninstalled it and installed the 2.5.23 from open 5, and everything is working now. The problem with 2.5.25, is when you take a picture and see it from the gallery shortcut on camera app, the post processing will not working, but if you go into gallery app, the post processing will be realized.

I am asking because i am using OB6 and i cant reproduce this misbehavior. It is working as it should and if this would be a reproducible problem, the OP forums would be filled with this i guess.

But, here is not working as should be. If I take a picture and try to see it directly from gallery shortcut on camera app, the pictures will be with much noise and hdr and hq will not be applied. But, if I go into gallery, the pictures will looks great and hdr and hq will be applied.

Camera app not working
Due to some locking issue I had to do factory reset in my Asus Zenfone max pro M1 but after reinstalling all apps the Asus camera app is not working (to be precise it shows black screen and screen gets frozen). Any help or advice would be great.

The default camera app is pretty good. However, when I click a pic, it shows up in the down left corner but when I click that, it doesnt shows up in the gallery. Its so frustrating! Due to this, I am forced to take two clicks in the camera. What could be the issue for such a bug? Shall I download another camera app? Which is the best if I want one? I have also noticed a bad battery drain! The 5000 mah doesnt lives up to its hype. Hope the future OTAs will solve it. Waiting for Pie now...

Install another 'Gallery' app, example 1) Foto gallery 2) Quickpic .. etc
Set the 3rd party gallery app as default. Click a pic from your stock Cam and then check if the image is being saved and previewed/opened in the 3rd party gallery app.
Pie update will come by the end of this quarter 2018, first priority Asus Zenfone 5Z then Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

I am using the "Foto Gallery" already. Dont like the Quickpic much. And Foto Gallery is set as default as well. The moment I click a pic, it shows up in the preview circle but it never shows up in the gallery. It became frustrating gradually. I am using another camera app called "Camera MX" now. It solves the problem for now. I wonder what causes such an issue. Hope the Pie update will solve all this. Especially the battery drain.
Thanks a lot for your reply. Hope things will be better soon!

Wait a minute! I just installed "Quickpic" and set that as default and it works!! So may be it was the Foto Gallery's issue. I never liked Quickpic much but guess I will have to use that for now. All my clicked pics are easily opened from the preview circle.
Thanks again buddy! I never expected this to be a gallery's issue. Back to the original camera app now. Phew!

Glad it worked. Simple troubleshooting
You could now try re-installing Foto gallery app, set it to default gallery app and check if it's still giving the same problem or not. If problem is resolved then you can continue using Foto gallery and uninstall Quickpic (as u said u aren't fond of).
If the problem still persists with Foto gallery app then I guess u need to stick with Quickpic for a while.
Btw, I'm using Foto gallery app and it works fine on my Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Yeah sure! Thanks
Would have liked to use default camera app
The suggestion of using another camera app is valid but the fact that I cannot use beauty mode and bokeh effect in camera mx makes me feel bad about not being able to use the default camera app. I just got my pro m2 yesterday and m facing this bug due to the update. Very disappointing!!!
I am also same problem so how can solve this problem?

I've been looking for a couple of weeks now and have used quite a few different apks but they all have the same problem.
After taking a picture, the picture shows up in the thumbnail in the bottom right but will not appear in the gallery or Google photos.
They seem to be corrupting when processing HDR and either show up as plain grey or delete themselves.
I've tried clear App Data / Storage as well as different configs but no success
Any working APKS would be appreciated!

Unfortunately still not success.
I'm starting to think its not a problem with GCAM, rather than with my phone. Not 100% sure what exactly it could be since the stock camera still works fine but yeah.
Maybe use a file explorer and make sure all the "old" data from other gcams is gone. Then start fresh,if you know what I'm saying.
Uninstall any other Gcams.

Glad you been actively trying solutions, like hunting up old files and deleting them.
Try switching HDR through its different On-Off-+ options and see if that matters.
In the settings, make sure camera API 2 is enabled.
Also erase camera data so you can tell which gallery to use, else erase the defaults for your galleries and start cam to see which gallery it uses.
Try all the different gcams one at a time from the celsoazevedo list of arnovag2's cams starting with the newest:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/

Yes indeed I do. In fact I wrote an update on this subject which I'll post on majzel.blogspot.com on Monday December 23rd. (My original article on gcam was https://majzel.blogspot.com/2019/11/what-i-learnt-about-google-camera.html )
In short XDA seems not to be the forum for Gcam porting. You have to join Telegram and then select the channel relating to 6 and 6T porting.
From there is a set of ports with results and recommendations. To cut to the chase right now, as of dec 20 2019, time 00.01, assuming that you raised your Oneplus 6T to Oxygen OS 10.3.0 (use Oxygen Updater from Play store and install stable not beta)
THEN I'd recommend
use MJL Minikon 2.3-fix3
or Simplecam 4.0.191030.1140-7.0.009
Of course nothing will work right unless you also download and then load your .xml configuration file. Right now on Simplecam I'm using Frctl and on MJL I am using Leica
I've experienced exactly the issues that plague you i.e. takes a photo, but somewhere in processing it hangs, or is not saved. These and other peculiarities are well reported on Telegram

What @amouses seems the best idea.
Find a way to get Telegram and you'll find the in-depth knowledge.
You sure are determined--trying EVERY camera in the list!
Let's get back to some basics--are you running stock?
If not maybe you gotta drop back and see if a camera works.
Got any other mods going on--gotta dump them all temporarily.
At this point, I say back up your important personal data--photos, etc., factory reset your phone, flash latest stock, start off completely fresh, don't install apps or anything until you've tested the most likely working camera.
Take it from there.
Good luck.
Season's Greetings.

Yeah, I was sure one would work, unfortunately not.
I'm running everything stock, with 0 mods on anything, OOS has come far enough for me not to need to root anymore to be honest.
I've been having a few minor bugs and a little lag in chrome once in a while so maybe the upgrade from 9 to 10 didn't go cleanly so I'll try and reset, flash stock etc. When I have some time
