Hi guys, i was wondering doesn enybody use performance mod on their m7's, i was use that on low end phones and i work with many developerers as tester for Mods.
Im now using Sky Dragon Rom and i see that in init.d have some parts of PurePerformances Mod, and i have see lag using only that, now i was install FlyOnMod and everything is fine, except battery i think battery is decrease faster. So tell me do u use them and which one?
The ElementalX kernel if you have a GPE or Sense-based rom. Has aroma installer and a vast amount of tweaks to the kernel you can pick. Overclocking, undervolting, wake options, etc. I run it on all the builds that's supported. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249774

If you want a pure Sense 7 UI with not too many added things, then InsertCoin or ArtMod are the ones I highly recommend. I run InsertCoin and a dual boot of MIUI v7, I have since my old Desire Z xD You even pick what stock apps and widgets you want removed since it has the Aroma installer which you can slim down things you know you won't use ever, and then paired with the ElementalX kernel it makes it a very nice experience. Feel free to look into the ViperOne rom and other as well, it doesn't hurt if you have some free time on your hands to find what one suits you the best.

Yes i agree with you, i will try InsertCoin tomorow and see. I think its good, also ARHD have sense 7, do you have expirience with that rom? Im on SkyDragon now do you think i need full wipe before instaling InsertCoin?

I have not used ARHD much at all, I did a while back but it was only for a few hours. You should do a wipe, not a full wipe though. Only cache, dalvik cache, and data. If you use TWRP then the standard wipe option will work fine. I also recommend to get an app backup manager like MyBackup free so you can backup all the APKs beforehand to save some download time after installing the rom you pick out

I think there's something in settings where you can set it so you double tap the status bar to put the device to sleep, that's what I used to use. I'll see if I can find out where it's at exactly here in a little bit

Yes on statusbar is working, but this kernel was working also on SkyDragon rom without problem to wake and sleep screen by double tapping to anywhere. i think that some option in insercoin tweaks ahve conflict with that

Can you confirm that this is working? I've been wanting to use a black substratum theme for ages, but until now I didn't dare to, since substratum doesn't officially support LineageOS as far as I know. On top of that I read a couple of comments of people having issues

You're right, but I meant LineageOS as in an LOS-based ROM more than LOS itself. Most custom ROMs run better than LOS and have a bunch of features.
You may know that Substratum uses "OMS" to do the overlay stuff, so if you want a ROM with full substratum compatibility, it's as easy as finding one with the necessary commits, like NucleaROM or RR (I prefer NucleaROM over all of the other LOS-based ROMs to be honest). Just look at the description of the ROM for 'oms support'. Or you can try, I'm sure that I used Substratum on LineageOS stock for some time and I was getting 7 hrs SOT with heavy usage

Alright, so thats how it is. But you say you had it running on LOS? Did you experience issues, or why don't you have it running anymore? To be honest I would currently prefer not flashing a new rom, since I'm kinda dependent on my phone working right now and at the moment, it works mostly fine would still love to use a totally black substratum theme though

You have LOS on your phone though, right? If so, why don't you try? It's not like you have to flash anything so you can't brick your phone...
I think I used it on LOS yeah. But I prefer stock over custom ROMs by far. And now that the MiFavor 5 ROM is out (with the Android 7 QS tiles) I don't have any reason to use the buggy and laggy custom ROMs
I swear LOS was the worst of them all when I used it back in Feb/March. The worst thing was that a bunch of apps simply didn't feel like working...

Yes I do. Personally I don't feel like it's that bad so you think it's save to try it out?
Hmm so you feel like stock is better right now? I switched to LOS because I was kinda mad at the stock rom (at least the German one) since updates weren't coming at promised times and when they did come they were full of bugs like apps not working and more.... Which was mostly fixed afterwards, but I wasn't that happy with the situation. I also didn't like the look and feel, which now wouldn't be as much of a problem, since I'm using Nova + KLWP to change most of the visuals. Is the "Tiles-App" with more QS tiles working with stock now? It didn't when I went to LOS. How's battery life? What are your main reason to go back to stock?
And least but not last.... How would I get back to stock? Just flashing a zip from the ZTE website?
And another weird thing which didn't bother me too much until now: I bought my phone in Germany so I had the G model. Ever since going to LineageOS, which included unlocking the boot loader etc. My phone tells me /shows up as the U model.... Is that bad in any way? Other than that it seems to work alright though

-I like stock because it runs better, and even though I thought I would hate ZTE's UI, I actually like it after using it for a long time. And the 5.0 UI is awesome, nuff said. They use blur on the volume pop-up and when you pull down the status bar.
MiFavor 5.0 is not official, it's just the A2017 ROM that's been ported by the Russians. You need to install a special A2017 bootstack (it seemed really dangerous but it's not that bad really) and then the system zip, which formats /system anyways. After that you have to format /data (which will format the internal storage too, just saying) because of the encryption, and it should boot just fine.
I have an A2017G too and flipped out when they f00ked up with B02 with Google Play Store, then B03 with exfat, and went to LOS. Then i tried to go back and DFU-bricked my phone. After I fixed it I preferred to stay stock, and in B04 they fixed everything there was to fix. Tried NucleaROM, best so far but it still has that WIP feel...
Anyways, make a backup of your current system on an SD card if you want to go 5.0.
The A2017U thing is normal, it's because the universal bootloader is actually the U bootloader without the NON-HLOS.bin which you flash later via the A2017G-MODEM.zip (which is ancient lol)
Thank you again for your aid! I have another question....
I downloaded substratum now and installed some themes but somehow I can't get them to work...
For example "Flux" tells me everything went good and I need to restart, but nothing changes after the reboot...
Swift Black has some errors compiling :/
Any ideas?

The best would be wiping everything, but you can try wiping system only. after that if the phone doesn't work well just wipe data
It seems to be that all the ROMs have bugs or are laggy. Stock is best right now if my research is correct.
Stock...
Edit* with a few things added and removed...
So I am running Nuclear Ron now, everything went smoothly and I've got Magisk installed correctly for root access. So far when I'm using the rom I love everything and substratum works well as well.....
But.... Whenever I turn of the screen it almost immediately reboots... when using my phone I don't get any random reboots, but when the screen is off it restarts every time. This is a real bummer and I keep my phone off most of the time right now, to prevent the reboots every minute :/
Any ideas what the reason for this issue could be? Would love to stay with this rom, but only if I can get this fixed!
I Uninstalled substratum and the substratum themes by the way, but that didn't help either...
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
I get phenomenal battery life and speed on NucleaROM. Stability is so-so, however.
Hi guys!
Is already have my OP5 since a month and using FreedomOS with Franco Kernel since the 2nd day I got it in my hand.
I am pretty happy in everything it brongs me both things, but I want to ask to people who has another custom ROM (xXx NoLimits, Resurrection Remix, ExperienceOS, etc) / Kernel on its device (I do not know a lot of kernels but I saw Franco and people (and his developer) told me some features and they hat reason is very smooth good and customizable with its own app.
So which Rom do you have? Magisk or SuperSu? Which Kernel is the best for you? :victory:
I want to get your personal opinion and your experience, I hope more people have the questions I did it and here we can help us each other with our opinion about using X rom X kernel and some more features that I can not put it here because I do not know if there are more things (my last Z5 I used mods and tweaks to make better performance but if you have a kernel like France you do not need this).
Thank you very much for your help :fingers-crossed:
I'm using xXx no limits and use the AKT (advanced kernel tweaks or so?) mod.
I don't know about the kernels but the ROM itself is my favorite.
It has an aroma installer (you pick which features you want before installing them) with many options.
You won't need to download gapps, magisk/ supersu and some stuff like xposed separately. It's very convenient.
Everything is smooth.
The stereo mod (using the earpiece as a speaker for music and videos) is something which is weird as it's used for something it wasn't meant to be used but still a very nice addition.
It's basically a faster stock OOS (oxygen OS) in a bundle with some root functionality added.
This shall be it for now. I hope that I could help you. Fell free to ask if you have any questions
I am using pure stock since I got this phone on the 4th of September and I have to say since then I stopped being a flasholic.
PureFusion because I've had the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL before this phone and ran PureNexus on those, and PureFusion is based on that. It's the only ROM that I feel provides just the right amount of features for me (not too much and not too less).
I'm using the stock kernel now because using custom kernels would introduce issues.
I did have the phone randomly reboot on Me 2 times so far but I can't say for sure that it's the ROM that is causing it.
Overall it's my favourite one out of the handful I have tried and I would definitely recommend it!!
Gonna go with stock as well. Stock kernel or Franco. Gotta say, better speed and battery than the other stuff out there. You gotta figure a whole company can do much better in software development than 1 guy or a team of 5 or 6 people.
Pure Fusion here too because its given me an extremely better battery life from the normal 3 hours SOT, i now get roughly 6 . Stock Kernel with the rom because it's just good for me all in all, maybe will try Franco sometime down the road because, i've been along time supporter. Magisk just because I don't need much except YouTube without ads, also can use Snapchat and other apps flawlessly! Good Luck!

Do I just make a clean install or i do a clean install and I install one of the gapps?
I must ask too, if I have unlocked the bootloeader, does that mean I have my mobile encrypted? Can I install Pure Fusion OS without problem?
What I normally do is wipe everything but internal memory, install room along with gapps I use open and it boots up! And you're all good to go !

It doesn't really matter. You can download open gapps or one for the others (forgot the names. Hehe).
You'll have to flash the ROM first and then the gapps file in the recovery. That's it.
But beware. Playing with your phones software doesn't come without risks. Read a lot about what you have to do and preferably try it on a phone to practice before doing it on your normal phone.
It can break your phone and I don't think that you can/ want to buy a new one. I had bricked my first phone a week after getting into root and custom ROMs.
The problems after that have driven me crazy but I was going to buy a new phone anyway.
LPT: If you want to flash something, wait for stable releases as long as you're inexperienced. Wait till others have tried that and then flash it. That way, you'll avoid some of the problems that you would struggle for a long time to fix.
And don't forget this. Keep an eye on the forums to see what problems people are reporting of and how to solve or avoid them in the first place.
Hope I could help

Dear members,
My Nexus 6 is in desperate need of some new life. It's been terribly laggy for the last year, and I can't buy a new phone right now.
I have very little experience with rooting, recoveries, kernels and other jargon words, and I really need your help!
What's the best combination of Kernel and OS at the moment? I was thinking about LineageOS 16 stock Kernel, but would like to be sure. Do I need root access?
Also, can someone point me in the direction of a tutorial to install what I need that can be done on Mac? I know you guys can probably get things done based on your experience and with little information, but I need a step-by-step or I will brick my phone.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

Actually ROMs and kernels aren't a mix and match. Use the kernel coming with the ROM or be prepared for funny things to happen.
Lineage has a pretty straightforward step by step guide for installation: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/shamu/install
You don't need root - if you want it you can flash https://mirrorbits.lineageos.org/su/20190709/addonsu-16.0-arm-signed.zip and enable it in the settings.

Depends of your definition of usability. Of cause it's slower then newer devices as shamu was developed in 2014.
But I still use it as secondary device for browsing and watching youtube. Also I am a bit biased as I am the maintainer for shamu on LineageOS. Maybe you should ask other users in the Lineage-16.0 thread.

If you search on Google about Magisk, you can directly go where you can download the zip and you can install it immediately after LineageOS and Google Apps. Then, once you booted the device, from inside the Magisk app, you can install from its internal repository the modules you want to use, every one of them does something you can find useful I think. In the end, I recommend you NFS Injector module to have your device good as a new one in terms of performance. I hope to have everything cleared for you

Hi guys,
I came back here to give some feedback on what I have done.
I followed the instructions on the Lineage wiki link and installed Lineage OS 16. I kept it as simple as possible and didn't do anything besides that. No module, no magisk, no root, no TWRP. Just Lineage. It's not that I didn't want to go further, but I don't know enough about android to do it. Even just installing Lineage was kind of a challenge. It was not a smooth process, but I managed to do it.
In any case, it fews like an entirely new phone now. Lag has been reduced to almost none. It was almost unusable before and know it's actually enjoyable to use. Thank you very much for your help and to everyone that kept support for Shamu alive.
I did run into a few problems so far, but nothing really significant. The flashlight and camera sometimes won't work and need a reboot to come back (thankfully boot time is really quick now). The Netflix app also won't work anymore, but that's expected with no magisk, right?
If I wanted to go back and install magisk and a few modules, can I do that now without having to wipe the phone again? Or would I have to redo the whole process?
Thank you!!

No need to Wipe.
Just reboot to recovery and flash magisk installer ZIP.
Now reboot to system, and you see new Magisk App installed.
Just open it and install any of the Modules you want, just make sure to reboot after every Install/Update/Uninstall of any Module.

Thank you for answering. Do you mind telling me what a module is / what is it for?
Also, this is day 4 since I have installed lineage and I have already been prompted two updates. Is that normal?
I have just experienced my first crash / weird behavior today. I hope it doesn't deteriorate too much over time.

If you are using your Nexus 6 as a Daily Driver like Me, I would recommend you to install LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) which is much more stable and responsive than LineageOS 16 (Android 9.0).
About updates it is fine, because LineageOS 16 is in active development and updates are released regularly, as compared to LineageOS 15.1 which is almost finalized and its updates are released every weeks/months.
About Module:
A module is a mod or a customization for your device which can be installed systemlessly(without modifying your android system files) using Magisk.
For Example: If you want to enhance your audio of the headphone you can install Viper4Android.

I am using it as a daily. For the last few days it's been really good. It was stock before and pretty much unusable. Do you think it's worth redoing the process to put lineage 15.1 on? I am not that confident with these things. I am at that point where I think "I can't believe I've done it and it's working". And if I redo it and screw things up I am gonna be furious I tried to fix what was not broken.

I will recommend installing LineageOS 15.1
I have installed this ROM for 2 months and never had any issue, even my battery is also bad but this ROM handles it very well.
I think it will worth installing.
I am using LinagesOS 15.1 with stock gapps and without any mod or Magisk.

My combination Is LineageOS with Magisk and NFS Injector module, i think it's your best bet to eliminate lags without tinkering too much, everything it's literally "install and forget"

Hi,
Coming back to share my experience. Lineage 16 was performing really well, but it got unstable after a few days. I was having 3-4 random reboots per day, mainly when scrolling through pages in multiple apps. The flashlight and camera also wouldn't work quite often and needed restart.
So I decided to take the advice given here and flashed lineage 15.1 (with mindthegaps, no root, no magisk). Performance isn't as good, but stability has been much better. No reboots so far. A few app crashes, but nothing major.
Once again I few like my phone has gotten new life and I will be able to squeeze a few more months out of it.
Thank you for all the replies to this thread. You guys helped a lot!

Is it stable for you? When I had 16 I would have random reboots in the two digits per day.

Yes it's safe but i dont recommend you to flash it, it has a lot of lags and bugs. Wait for some more to get more stable builds.

Have you tried It? I want to test MIUI 12 but not really sure about the Daily usage of It, It can be used for Daily Driver (until Xiaomi.eu build)? I'll install GS and MoreLocale obv.
I flashed the rom on my Redmi Note 7s from the link mentioned above via orange fox recovery (it showed corrupt zip file in twrp). It booted up but its very laggy. System app keeps stopping. Situation worsens with full screen gestures, wifi connected and more. Not good as a daily driver. Wait until they work on it a bit more.

I experienced a lot of lag, for example in the system UI, opening the notifications panel or Quick settings was very slow, and may result in a frozen screen, which became usable after some time.
I did a full wipe, data system, internal storage so it doesn't come from that.
