GSI - Tremble enabled roms. Is it worth it? - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
I'm opening this thread to discuss if GSI's (tremble enabled ROMs) {correct me if I'm wrong with the verbiage}, are worth the trouble of using them, since our phone (redmi 3s) has tons of custom ROMs support.
I'm new at flashing custom ROMs but very enthusiastic about it because it gives a new life at our old phone!
So, are good old custom ROMs (non tremble) enough, or have better performance on 3s, so we don't have to turn to GSI's or not?
What are the pros n' cons of each one (custom ROMs vs GSI's).
Thank you all for your help!

These articles only explain Google's treble program, I'm emphasizing the benefits of this, on redmi 3s. Is it worth it so far, etc.
Thank you for your information!

Yes because the 3S is like any other Android's products.... lets not overwrite files configurations, save settings, it lightens the update time and reduces risks.

@bharathbondfire Thanks for sharing...
Have few questions about ROM 1:
1. Is it modified or completely stock?
2. Do I have to flash it using TWRP or SP Flash tool?
3. Will OTP updates possible later on when available?

Hey, interesting thread. I feel I must move all my rom reviews and testing from the Index thread here to keep things organized.
One of the best ROMs for battery is SudaMod, it's 5.1.1 It's still my daily driver rom lol.

Good idea reviewing ROMs.:good:
A few suggestions...
1. Always mention the OS version in your reviews and/or the devices supported(if applicable)
2. Instead of having ROM 1, ROM 2 etc in Bold simply write the ROM name and developer name in bold
3. Free RAM is often not a very big problem with custom ROMs. Overall performance, switching between apps, smoothness after a long time between reboots...all this matters.
4. Add whether a ROM supports theming... If yes, then Layers themes or CM themes or VIBEUI themes
5. Linking to the ROM threads or description pages might be a good idea
These might sound like nitpicking, but beleive me these things make reviews carry much more weight. Congratulations on the effort. Keep it up.

Customs roms for Xiaomi Mi Note 2

Hello everyone, we already have Lineage OS and Resurrection remix on our Mi Note 2, what other roms would you like to get ? And I have a question for devs, do you think it's possible to get S8/S8+ rom on our Mi Note 2 ?
I'd be interesting in hearing if there are roms that people are crying out for. Moving between Lineage and RR is very straightforward but most other roms are going to take some time, so having an idea where people want that time invested would be very welcome.
As for the S8/S8+ rom, I'm not sure that it's open source, and without source it's not feasible. Modifying their stock rom to work is beyond practical. There's significant difference in snapdragon and exynos architecture, the S8/S8+ kernel is based on a much more recent version of linux, and presumably makes use of new features and this is all before getting to device level. It would be a great rom to have though! If you know of a rom source that's similar and flexible then I'd be happy to take a look.

Best custom ROMs for LG G4?

Hi, guys!
I saw there is already a thread about this, but it is quite outdated so I decided to start a new one. So since there would most probably NOT be an update to Nougat for our phones, I plan installing a custom rom, but since I am a newbie in this field I decided to ask for opinions. Honestly I am mostly attracted by the LineageOS 14.1/15 as successor of the CM, but there may be better options. I found some threads about LineageOS 15 been released but the link for our phones has been removed, reasons unknown. The 14.1 seems quite stable and with good reviews. But nevertheless please share your experience with any custom roms that you have, also please share whether G4 specific features like the double tap to lock/unlock the screen work with it?
If relevant I have a h815 model.
Thank you,
It is personal. You can ask that what do you use custom rom or why do you use LOS etc.
You will get more answers like this way.

Kernel Source Zenfone 3 Zoom S

Hi Everyone,
We have a heck of a hardware and camera beast(Zenfone 3 Zoom S), but unfortunately we do not have a dedicated developer. Earlier i used to have a OPO and one developer @Sultanxda(hands joined in respect) used to built awesome camera roms, clarity which no other roms could match. I am a working individual with hobby of customizing phone roms through XDA. Hoping to learn cooking roms, but this will take time and I even dont know how far I can go. Anyways link to kernel sources for anybody brave enough for starting the challenge.

Surprisingly recent posts for the Zenfone.
I literally just ordered the Zen3zoom today as my travel phone (since I can't unlock my Note 9) and am actually super excited to get this phone!
I might try to learn how to make ROMs too....
guys, we do have developer who would like to prepare Lineage OS for this phone. if you're interested there dedicated thread titled "Search for developer". we need a few people to participate in cost of the phone so that the developer could buy one.

TWRP 3.5 - build android device

Hi everyone,
I was very excite when I saw this post on TRWP site: https://twrp.me/site/update/2020/12/31/twrp-3.5.0-released.html since it would add the so much missed support for native android 10 devices like my 1+7tp mclaren, but to build this twrp you need an android device specific for 7tp mclaren I belive (similar to the ones found in https://github.com/TeamWin/?q=android_device_oneplus) (the android 10 branch)
Are there any guides on how to do this? I'm more than willing to give it a go and share it back if i manage to get it working.
My whole point in getting a OnePlus device was that I could dual boot (it would be really nice to be able to dual boot nethunter for work since I constantly need to do simple security assessments on the fly. Having that possibility on my mobile would be a huge time saver for me)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
And congratulations to all on this forum. It's always great to see the coding communities at work!
