Background Apps / Location - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

As discussed here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/help/push-notifications-to-apps-delayed-t4088925 I've issues with background apps. I've no problem with notifications but with location.
I used to use the RunKeeper widget to start it but with the 8 pro this no longer works. When I open RunKeeper it takes a while to get location and then I can start it. I suspect that the missing background location information is the cause of the unresponsive widget. I've disabled all optimizations for RunKeeper I was able to find without success.
Any suggestion how to fix this?

What Weather Widget is this?

MIUI Weather. Can be found in the Android Apps and Games section here.
They're split by state, so download accordingly. When setting location, at least this was how it was going before, you had to disable the GPS bit in the settings and manually add your location.

[Q] "Onguard Weather Alerts" Dynamic Location Broken?

I came to the S5 from a rooted CM11 Galaxy Nexus. On that device I was using Onguard Weather Alerts for severe weather notifications. It seems that it does not work on my S5 for the "Dynamic Locations". It works just fine and as expected if I specify a static location or locations.
Has anyone noted any issues with dynamic locations/follow me settings in background apps? If you found the issue, what was it?
(Location services is on, and set to high accuracy. Foreground apps seem to be able to use dynamic locations/follow me without issue.)

I can't answer your problem, but I can tell you that Onguard stopped working properly a long time ago. I am a SkyWarn weather spotter in Missouri, and I would not recommend using this app to save your life in severe weather. I recommend signing up for severe weather alert texts from your local National Weather Service office, as well as text alerts from your local tv news station if available.

Location inaccurate/too general for widgets

Hi all.
I have an issue displaying my current location using various widgets. Most notably, I want to utilize the Amber Weather widget. After turning on location settings and setting up the widget, I get a general location as "California, California". See screenshot attached.
I have also tested my location with Beautiful Widgets and get the same general location. I would like it to locate exactly what city/district I am in.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Widgets Not Updating in Oreo

I recently upgraded to Oreo and have discovered a few annoying features (why did they get rid of the notification count?), pertinent to this discussion is the ability for a widget to periodically update its content.
For example, I have a couple of weather apps which allow a widget to be placed on the screen which will conveniently display current weather conditions. The apps themselves allow the user to determine the frequency of updates ranging between 15 minutes and a few hours. However, since this Oreo upgrade none of my widgets are updating the data within the widget itself. I can open the widget and it will update at that point, but they will not do so automatically as they had done previously.
Looking over the change log, I'm wondering if this has something to do with limiting background services for battery life extension?
I've gone into the settings and turned off power saving mode, turned off app power monitor, even enabled high performance mode. None of this seems to alter the widgets updating.
Any ideas?

White background of icons, uninstall default apps, weather not updating

I'm having issues with xiaomi android:
1.
Some icons: ie. chrome, gmail, messenger have white background. Even in non-default launcher. How to force device to use standard application icons? But apps from xiaomi itself have transparent backgrounds (ie. settings)
What I googled is all outdated:
Themes - can't start in my region, so I changed region to HK (some bloatware installed, so anyone else - don't do it, trust your instinct, not someone on internet ), opened themes, downloaded limitless, it is same icons - I thought it would not work, it did not, it only installs bloatware.
Typical "advice" on forum ... please don't answer like that.
2.
I would like to uninstall some default apps.
Even apps like gmail and chrome are, system or something and I guess xiaomi still manages it somehow and for example gmail - even if I allowed it in autostart and set it as no restriction in battery I still sometime receive notification about emails with tens of minutes of delay.
Still some apps I just want to uninstall.
3.
Default weather app not updating weather on home screen until I lunch it and refresh. All automatic updates apart from [do not update between 23 and 7] are enabled, no restriction in battery manger (not possible to set even ), autostart allowed.
