As I mentioned in the comment above yours, you need a custom made flashable zip to be able to update with a custom recovery.
I think that new twrp 3.4.0 recovery is capable to flash ota ozip

In order to update from Custom recovery and root, just follow the next guide by @Jerry08. Works for TWRP and OrangeFox:
Updating ColorOS on rooted phone via TWRP
Use Magisk Canary cause it supports realme phones(stable needs magiskfix to get out of Core only mode).
This is the only way to update ColorOS via TWRP without losing magisk or running into damaged boot/recovery image message on boot for now.
Steps:
- download latest Magisk Canary, vbmeta.img and latest update package(ozip) for your device(cn rom for cn device, global rom for eu/in device), if you download update via official OTA app the package is located in
Code:
/data/oppo/coloros/OTA/.otaPackage
- reboot to Custom Recovery,
- flash latest ozip through twrp recovery(don't reboot yet),
- flash vbmeta.img through Custom Recovery
- flash magisk(if flashing fail, than reboot recovery),
- reboot to system.

I have updated to c.28 from rooted c.27 via twrp, but the system still tells me there is an update available. Is there a way to fix it?
#Edit
If anyone else wonders, I solved it by clearing update app's data

It doesn't match and can not match because MD5 on the website has 31 characters, and should have 32 characters.

are you on twrp 3.0.3-1? make sure you update twrp to the latest version first before you do anything
step 1: go to the "how to Install OxygenOS 4.0.1 with Stock Or Custom Recovery without Data Loss!!" thread and download the newest supersu zip file and the FULL 4.0.1 zip file (larger file)
step 2: boot to recovery and nandroid backup
step 3: go to wipe, advanced, wipe cache and dalvik
step 4: go to install and flash the full OOS 4.0.1 zip file then directly after flash the newest supersu 2.79 zip file
step 5: boot to system should take a bit longer than usual then you will be in nougat
hope this helps

Hello,

But to update to 4.0.2 ?
Moderator Information,
Thread closed, please use existing threads before creating new ones, EG: [ROM][OFFICIAL][4.0.2] OOS 4.0.2 Nougat for OP3T !!!
This is a guide for people who want a rooted MIUI. It will keep stock recovery and system partitions untouched to allow MIUI OTAs to install without problems. It will also pass Google's safety net test so bank apps keep working. The best of both worlds really
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Windows PC
- fastboot (present in the miunlock app folder)
- Latest TWRP (download here)
- Latest Magisk (download here)
Steps:
- Install latest Magisk app
- Put latest Magisk zip on your device storage (SD)
- Shut down device
- put latest twrp.img in miunlock folder
- Connect phone to PC
- Press volume down and power button to boot to fastboot mode
- Open "Command Prompt" on your PC
- Type: (without quotes)
----- "cd C:\Users\[your name]\Desktop\miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10" . (or wherever the folder is)
----- "fastboot devices"
----- "fastboot boot twrp.img"
- In a few seconds, TWRP will boot on your phone. DO NOT swipe to make changes to system.
- In TWRP, flash the Magisk zip
Enjoy root

Same as my question. Let say system partition won't touch by root, but twrp is installed over the Mi stock recovery. Will it install Eta?
This guide DOES NOT flash TWRP. Stock recovery remains so OTA updates work.
The only thing that is touched by this guide is the "Boot" partition to install magisk. You can restore stock "Boot" using magisk manager's uninstall option at any moment and be 100% stock again.
Ok, but is Xposed etc. possible?

Well... That's I mean, boot TWRP using adb
After have TWRP, how can i get update via OTA?
it successfully worked for Redmi Note 4 global beta/stable MIUI9.2
even installed camera api 2 using magisk module
Just a quick question. I've TWRP right now with SuperSU. So I'll remove SuperSU, flash Magisk in TWRP. All good till now, but I'd want the stock recovery, a flash-able zip maybe. How can I get it? From where?
**[EDIT]**
Okay. One can get it from fastboot ROMs available at MIUI website (here), extract the pack and get recovery.img.
Installed successfully on miui 9.2.1.0 stable
Now when a new update for magisk is released, how should i update it??
I have two questions:
1. Why does the bootloader need to be unlocked and how can I do that?
2. What happens to Magisk if I install an OTA?
I'd like to keep the phone untouched but I need to change emojis and with Xposed I can use Youtube in background.

When an OTA is available, please go to Magisk Manager → Uninstall → Restore Images. Do not reboot immediately or you will have Magisk uninstalled. This will restore your boot (or dtbo if available) back to 100% untouched stock images in order to pass verifications. This step is required before doing any of the following steps written below!

Yes, I hope it works, anyway at the next update I will reroot it in a few minutes.
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR DEVICE BRICKS, SD CARD DAMAGES OR NUCLEAR WAR STARTS.
Rooting method described below will work on Oreo-running devices ONLY (confirmed on build OPN27.76-12-22 and on OPNS27.76-12-22-9).
Please follow all steps very carefully and make sure you downloaded correct versions of all .zip files mentioned in my instruction!
ROOT (SafetyNet test will PASS!)
1. Download all files listed below:
- twrp-3.2.3-0-addison.img (CLICK)
- Magisk-v17.1.zip or newer if availabe (CLICK)
- f2fsfix-2018.9.2.zip (CLICK)
2. Flash TWRP using Fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-addison.img
3. Flash Magisk-v17.1.zip (or newer if available).
4. Go to TWRP/Settings and open Terminal.
5. Run both of following commands:
Code:
echo KEEPVERITY=true>>/data/.magisk
echo KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=true>>/data/.magisk
6. Flash f2fsfix-2018.9.2.zip
7. Reboot (it is crucial in case of installing Xposed afterwards).
8. Optional but recommended: update your Magisk Manager to the latest version (CLICK).
9. Open Magisk -> Modules and update f2fs-loopback-bug-workaround module to the newest version (can be done only via Magisk Manager only if new version of f2fs-loopback-bug-workaround module is available).
10. Enjoy rooted Oreo.
UPDATE 03.10.2018
If you flashed everything as described in OP and noticed that you got stuck in boot, go to TWRP again and:
1. Uninstall Magisk using latest Magisk uninstaller.
2. Flash Magisk 17.1.zip AGAIN (yes.).
3. Flash f2fsfix-2018.9.2.zip
4. Enjoy rooted phone.
PS. I do not know why device does not start after first flashing to be honest, but these four steps above are confirmed by several users (and by me).
UPDATE 03.10.2018
XPOSED (be careful: Xposed for Oreo is still in BETA distribution and flashing it will break your SafetyNet!)
1. Open Magisk Manager -> Downloads.
2. Download Xposed Installer (the one from the screen below):
https://image.ibb.co/byLUuK/Xposed_Framework.png
3. Let Magisk install it.
4. Reboot.
5. Open Xposed Installer (you will see orange exclamation mark, don't worry).
6. Reboot once again.
7. Voila.
Hit THANKS if I helped!

@rafikowy ah, so basically the problem was with dm-verity and forced encryption? That makes sense. So it would basically also work if you'd not extract the boot.img from the OTA zip and mod it with Magisk manager with both enabled and flash that (might be easier than flashing normal Magisk and then make the changes), so you'd basically just flash the img and the module zip in TWRP.
Well, if no bigger bugs appear I might try the Oreo OTA and root tomorrow. Don't think it will be here on its own till then, even if it's already the official rollout (Indian and brasilian users seem to get it officially)
First magisk manager did not want to open, but a reboot solved. thanks
So, Lenovorola is still "undecided" in regards to patching F2FS.
I wonder why...

Hi fellows
I wanted to root my Mi 9T, but I don't want to flash a custom rom, I just want to have root on the official rom (global stable).
As I understand, the correct procedure is:
-unlock nootloader
-flash twrp
-flash magisk
But I have a couple of doubts about this, in particular about updates:
-If my phone is unlocked and I have root, will I still receive official updates from xiaomi?
-if yes, do they install via twrp? Do they fail installation? Do I loose root/bootloader unlock if I install them on unlocked/rooted phone?
-if no, is there an alternative way to install updates without losing root every time?
In other words, what is the best way to have a rooted phone but with official, up-to-date rom? (I have no problems downloading/installing updates manually, but having to reapply root every time would be annoying)

As I know you could receive updates if you unlock your bootloader and flash magisk, I don't have experience with that, I've read that from other brands people do this and still get their updates.
If I'm wrong correct my.
• You will receive the ota but it won't install
• You'll have to install the full rom and reflash Magisk everytime
• Orange Fox recovery can install ota BUT not available for Mi 9T/K20
I'm not sure about Mi 9t (have to wait for bootloader unlock), but it was so on Redmi 3s: I can install OTA updates, it goes through TWRP, but after every update I have to flash Magisk.
It was several years ago, so probably they've changed something
Thanks for your replies guys.
I can now confirm (just tested) that to update a rooted mi9t all you have to do is this:
-flash update zip with twrp (you have to download the update zip from somewhere, like mifirm website, the one downloaded by the update tool is encrypted and won't work!)
-flash magisk
-reboot
Very simple! No need to reflash magisk modules, just the magisk base package and everything works as expected ?

Seems more convoluted to me, since you still need to download the rom from an external website and additionally you need a pc and you need to reflash twrp every time.... it'll probably work fine, but it seems more complicated to me

You mean the one downloaded through the miui updater? I can't flash that with twrp, it's encrypted. In fact, I can't even open the zip file with file manager, it says the file is corrupted. How do you decrypt/use it?
Few days ago I got OTA update while having magisk root and TWRP installed. It rebooted phone into TWRP and installed itself through TWRP. So it seems Xiaomi can now detect what recovery you are using and instead send you recovery OTA instead? Sadly I lost TWRP and root this way and needed to find newer TWRP (old one didnt boot and caused bootloop). Rom also didnt boot (after flashing new TWRP) until I flashed magisk.
Thank you all, it's nice to find this post before I create a new with the same questions.
I bought a new "Mi 9t", it received the latest OTA update, and it has been unlocked after waiting 170 hours.
MIUI Version: MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable
Android Version: 9 PKQ1.190302.001
Model Name: M1903F10G
Now I need to root it without flashing twrp, I need to be on the Stock recovery because I don't want to lose the OTA update.
I ran this command :
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot boot recovery.img
Downloading ‘boot.img’ OKAY [ 1.404s]
booting OKAY [ 0.127s]
Finished. Total time: 1.560s
but the device reboot to MI-Recovery 3.0, can someone correct me if I'm wrong? also which twrp version support MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable?

Weird, I tried that (downloading update from the updater app and rebooting to twrp to auto-flash it), but TWRP said update was corrupted. I had to download an unencrypted version from mifirm site to flash it with twrp.
Maybe it's a problem with the version of twrp? Which one are you using? I'm using the one from LR Team

oh I wish I knew After update when I went to flash back old twrp and magisk it resulted in bootloop so I was flashing all twrp I could find just to make them boot and then be able to flash magisk. However name of my file is "recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0607-REDMI_K20-CN-wzsx150" I think its "fixed" chinese one.
Is "recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0607-REDMI_K20-CN-wzsx150" support for MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable?
Can I boot from it to root Mi 9T without flashing?

• You will receive the ota but it won't install
• You'll have to install the full rom and reflash Magisk everytime
• Orange Fox recovery can install ota BUT not available for Mi 9T/K20

How do i root global stable rom 10.3.11 without bootlooping? Just rooting and no twarp .
on my opinion realmi UI works slowly and consume more power than ColorOS (especially C26 version), so I decided to get back on ColorOS.
Due to that it's impossible to use google pay on device with unlocked bootloader you will need:
1) magisk ver. 20.3 (you can download it it here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/how-to/guide-unlocking-bootloader-to-getting-t4010189 I download from attachment
2) magiskfix_v1_realme_wzsx150 (1).zip - I've attached it.
3) Safetynet_fix_new.zip - you can download it from these link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/xiaomi-safetynet-fix-t3600431
so First of all:
1. Flash Magisk v. 20.3
2. Boot to custom recovery (I use orange fox) and flash magiskfix_v1_realme_wzsx150 (1).zip
3. Boot to custom recovery and flash Safetynet_fix_new.zip
enjoy fully workable google pay, and magisk (cuz without these fixs magisk hide didn't work)
Or just...
1. Install Magisk
2. Download Magisk Props Hider and Magisk ARCore Playground from the Magisk Manager app
3. Restart
4. You pass SafetyNet
Does this work on Realme UI with c26 installed?
I currently just have an Unlocked bootloader with the original recovery and no magisk installed.
Can I just install Magisk and proceed further with it?
When I tried flashing Magisk decoded zip previously, it resulted in bootloops which required me to reinstall everything and lost my data in the process. (this was when I flashed c24 on to c10 versions)

you have to install custom recovery (orange fox), than flash magisk in custom recovery, than flash patched vbmeta.img in fastboot mode.
than you can reboot to system!
orange fox and patched vbmeta.img and instructions how to flash you can find here https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/development/orangefox-recovery-x2-pro-t4063301and
Does this play havoc with the fingerprint scanner, btw? There was this problem with rooting on Realme UI

Any updates on this? I'm thinking to switch to this from older k20 pro but finding info to be sparse on it.
