Bad!! Very, very bad!!! Don't do that again! Didn't you read the part where it says put your iMate in the cradle and be sure it is connected to power? Part of the process of flashing the ROM is to remove the existing one....Whooops! Where did my Bluetooth go?.....Bad!! Very, very bad!!! Don't do that again!
As punishment you must read this entire thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3687. You're luck though, you should know how to fix your problem by the end.
Dave
Thanks
When i connect with hiperterminal i see.....
+SA_USB_Init
-SA_USB_Init
But i dont see any prompt. What can i do? thanks
I also had the same problem, I did read the instructions but my sync cradel was also at work and not with me, So i tried to update over bluetooth, Mine also died, and hard resets did nothing.
But at work the next day i was lucky, i managed to connect as a guest in activesynce with the usb cradel and just run the rom upgrade, i think i was very lucky as only after fixing it did i bother to read the posts you were advided to read.
good luck

Hope you all can offer some help. Couldn't find the answer to this issue when I did a search. It seems that my phone's USB will no longer work properly when connected to either my laptop or PC. The computers don't recognize any device as being connected and ActiveSync won't detect the phone. However, the cable continues to charge the phone. I've also tried another cable to rule that out as the cause and had the same issue. So I believe the problem is with the phone. I'm wondered if it could be related to the installation of bluetooth drivers related to a bluetooth dongle I had purchased so I tried uninstalling all that with no success. If I can't find a resolution I guess I'll try a hard reset, but I was hoping to avoid that. Appreciate any words of wisdom that you all can offer.
Thanks,
Todd
Might be the same issue like described in the thread below! It can be that you removed your BT software but the port is still reserved ... check out if that helps:

Thanks for your suggestion Junner....I looked at my bluetooth settings. I only have one device (my headset) on there. The COM Ports tab has nothing in it except an option to add a New Incoming Port. So aside from deleting my existing headset, I don't see any other option there.
In case it helps, I'm running the Cingular ROM and WM5. The phone works just fine otherwise. The only problem is that I can't access any of my files, etc.
After you removed the drivers, did you clean your registry? Did you reboot your computers?
When you connect your phone, do you hear the familiar USB bells from your PC? Have you tried removing the AS partnership?

I did clean the registry and reboot the computer.
I do not hear the USB bells when I connect the device to the PC.
I removed the AS partnership, and updated to AS 4.5.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks!
Hi there,
I'm using a TYTN (from SFR v1605).
It used to work well when I was on XP but since I've upgraded to Vista, in most cases the USB connection does not work.
As seen on some threads here, I have tried to tick / untick the "advanced network" option in the USB to PC settings panel: sometimes it works (rarely) but since few days I'm not able to synch through USB at all.
I don't know what to do.
I'm able to charge the TYTN, but I cannot see the panel displaying "USB connection..." on the TYTN.
Also the TYTN is recognized from Vista (I see it in the USB ports) and I cannot see any specific error message in Vista, just the mobile device center says the TYTN is not connected.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards,

I had the same problem a couple of times. After a considerable amount of searching this forum, and other sites, I stumbled across a routine which fixed it for me.
With your TyTN connected by USB, on your PC/Notebook open up System Properties, Device Manager. You should find an entry, Portable Devices, showing the TyTn, It will probably have a yellow triangle with an asterix, showing that there is a problem. Right click on that and select Uninstall.
Then disconnect your TyTN and reconnect it. The PC/Notebook should then rebuild the USB driver, and everything should then sync.
HTC USB Sync with Vista
Thank you for your kind help.
I can see the HTC in the device manager, under mobile devices, but with no yellow triangle.
Anyway I've uninstalled it, and then disconnected and reconnected the TYTN.
It reinstalled the driver, but I still have no UBS Sync recognized on the TYTN.
Best Regards, Eric.

Two final suggestions from me.....
Firstly, ensure that you have the updated version of WMDC on your PC/Laptop. Mine is Version 6.1.6965.
Secondly, try deleting the existing partnership(s) on your TyTN. To do this, go to Start, Programs, ActiveSync. This will show you which partnerships are active. To delete them, go to Menu, Options, Delete.
When you reconnect your TyTN, it should set up a fresh partnership.
If this doesn't work, perhaps someone else out there could offer more advice.
Still not working
Hello Syd,
Thanks agaon for your kind help.
I've been travelling a lot these last weeks, sorry for the late answer.
I'm using the same version of WMDC as you.
I've also reset the partnerships.
It still does not work. Each time I reboot my phone it will loose the ability to establish the USB connexion with the PC. Fews days (sometimes weeks) after the connexion will work and I don't know why.
I'm sure this is linked with the phone, not the PC.
I've read somewhere in this forum it could be linked with the automatic time zone adjustment. I have the feeling it is linked with that, as my problems initially started while I was travelling in foreign countries.
I've seen somewhere that I should disable the automatic time zonbe adjustement, but I cannot find this option.
ALso, since I've created user defined alarm clocks, I have a very long list of alarms when I reboot the phone. I think some "events" are locking the phone, I just don't know how to fix it.
Maybe I should perform a full reboot, but I dislike doing it as I've installed many applications on my phone.
Thanks again for your help.
Best Regards, Erix.
Have you tried going into the usb to pc setting on the device (setting - system) and unticking advanced networking support?
advanced network
Yes, for sure I've tried this option.
Sometimes when I enable / disable this several times, it will eventually activate the USB connexion.
It used to be a workaround in the past, but it does work any longer.
A little bit like if there is a growing list of "events" which prevent the USB connexion from being activated. I really would like to understand what happens.
Are you using SP1 on Vista? If not, there is a USB update that you need to apply that fixes communication issues with USB devices and the host controller. I would HIGHLY recommend updating to SP1 ASAP. It makes Vista worth using.
If you are running SP1, I don't have any more thoughts other than replace the mini-USB cable. I actually had a bad one recently so it can happen.

No I don't use SP1. I let the system installing updates and fixes automatically, so I don't know whether that USB patch you mentioned has been installed or not. I'll have a look at it... I'll also install the SP1 ASAP.
Thanks for the tip.

It is not the cable, I've bought a second one to check, and it behaves the same... And sometimes it works.
Hello
I'm looking for some help and advice with a problem I have with an i-mate xda2 and trying to communicate with my desktop using windows xp. Like many other owners of the xda2 the bottom connector has become completely disconnected and as a result I have been trying to set up using Activesync over Biuetooth. I have followed various tutorials on how to make this connection without sucess. I recently did a hard reset on the xda2(WM2005) and now find I do not have the options for setting up Bluetooth that I had before the hard reset-for example I cannot select serial port option-I just have the hands-free option! It may be that I need to use the cradle/USB connection before I can set up activesync over Bluetooth.
Note -the desktop and xda2 recognise each other but not using activesync.
Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

That link might help you.
However, I thought they had disabled wireless access completely with Activesync as a security measure?
Anyway, someone can correct me if I am wrong. I have never done it over bluetooth personally.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply but I'm afraid it did not help. I think my problem stems from the fact that I did a hard reset after the usb cable socket on my PPC broke off and this is stopping me getting the correct Bluetooth settings.

Hye, im a new forum user. Ive been using a Dopod 900 for quite sometime now and i love it. However, 2 weeks back, upon connecting it to my pc, an error message showed on my pc screen. It said
"USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED
One of the usb device connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".
At 1st i thought it was a minor problem so i decided to soft reset it. But after soft resetting it still couldn't connect.
Here's the list of things that i've done.
1. soft reset the device/pc
-connect it via cable to the usb port, still not working
2. uninstall/reinstall activesync 4.5
-not working either
3. hard reset device
-also not working
4. reformat pc (last resort)
-no avail...sigh...
HELP!!! It's driving me crazy!
The usb port seems fine, i can sill charge my device, but i can't connect it to my pc!
PLEASE HELP ME!
Thanks in advance.
the problem is on your PC and not on your Device. I didn't get whether you have formated your PC or you planning to??
I don't think it's my pc.
Went to a pda shop, asked the person in charge to have a look at it and he too was confused. He got the same error as i did on his pc.
He reset my device to bootloader mode and plugged in the usb cable. Something like 'usb cable' showed on my device screen. He said that the port was fine so it had to be some other problem which of course he doesn't even know.
Btw, i DID format my pc before going to the pda shop. Still nothing...Thanx for replying and being so helpfull...Hope u can help some more!
Have you tried a diff USB cable
Yup! Tried a couple of different usb cables...still no luck...
Additional info-
I found out that syncing could also be done via bluetooth from a friend, so i gave it a try but, also no go...my device is not recognised...***sigh***
Yes, still no luck...Ive tried a couple actually...
Was this problem solved?
I have the exact same problem. I got it to sync one time though when I disabled my firewall. But that's it.
I can't sync again.
Please, anybody who had had this problem, please share the solution.
Thanks a lot!

Have check this?
Goto your device -->settings-->connection-->USB to PC and check or uncheck advanced network functionality
That's strange. i don't have the USB to PC option on my Connections menu.
I've been suspecting my USB port to be the problem.
Could anyone please take a very clear picture of the USB port in their Uni so I can compare mine.
Thanks a lot.
Nope...it was never solved. I ended up selling my dopod. I was so frustrated. *sigh*
