Hi everbody,
I have a Zenfone 3 and about two weeks ago, I flashed LineageOS on it. I'm very happy with it, except of this particular annoying bug.
I've set alarms every 15 min from 6am to 10am, because of my stupid work that has very various shift hours. So I activate the alarms I need depending when I start my job.
Anyway, the problem is that the musics I selected for each alarm don't always play when the alarm starts, some of them are replaced by the default sound. It's looks random, it can be any of the alarms, sometimes one, two, or more of them.
The music titles still appear in the alarms list, but when I click on it, it's the default alarm sound that plays. I have to change it and find the music in my folder to select it again so it will work.
All the musics I use are on my SD card, I don't know if it's the problem because with the stock Asus firmware, I didn't have this issue.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or an idea to fix that bug ?
Thanks for your help.

Upgraded memory card on hero from stock 2gb (unknown class) to a 16gb class2 card.
Connected Hero via usb - transfered off all files (including copilot maps and custom notifications/ringtones/music etc).
Replaced memory card - connected up and transfered all files back to new memory card and rebooted phone to make sure all widgets/apps initialised properly.
At first everything seemed to be ok - pretty much tested everything that touches the memory card - game saves, copilot, music, photos, video playback is acceptable (some slight jitters with other open apps or many widgets open - recommend making a blank/video playback home profile to counter this and killing apps down), pdf viewer.
However, the fun started when I received my first text message (I had SD notifications option set to on and had picked my custom notification sound). Instead of hearing my notification one of the bundled stock tunes (Colette - Push) played instead as the notification sound IN FULL !!! and couldn't find any way to stop it.
I am assuming this music file is the very first file listed in internal memory therefore if any problems with custom notifications it will play this instead (for a full 4mins or so)!!
So is this an issue with the read time of the memory card? An intermittant memory card (everything seems ok - been using the phone as mp3 player and not noticed any problems with audio and/or video playback) ? Or a bug in software somewhere?
I might try a wipe/reformat in the device and see if that works - any other suggestions?
Ringtones are less picky, but for Custom Notifications and alarms, I've found the fone doesn't accept them unless they are stored on the SD card with the same folder heirachy as on the device
Make a folder called media and inside create one called audio and inside THAT create ringtones, alarms, notifications
Put the stuff you want for each in its respective folder
paths should be sd/media/audio/alarms sd/media/audio/notifications and sd/media/audio/ringtones
Like I say, I've found ringtones are fine left anywhere on the SD, but Alarms and notification sounds need to be in those folders.
Also, when you put them in, you may need to restart for them to show up in a list for apps like alarm clock etc.

I think I had the same issue - after changing the card, first text I got resulted in the phone playing a random tune from my mp3 folder. Re-selecting the notification sorted it.
I had already created the directories for media\audio\notifications (and alarms and ringtones).
I have reformatted the card, recreated media\audio\notifications and placed a single mp3 notification file. Enabled SD notifications and selected the file as default notification.
Tested and works ok.
Filled the rest of the media card with music/video etc
Received a text after all of that and it played a music track from \mp3 folder instead of the notification sound !!! after testing now - doesn't matter if i try to use a stock notification it will always use the same track for every text i receive !!!
what the hell is going on ?
reboots/reselecting the notification/enabling or disabling SD notifications - doesn't matter it always plays the mp3 track all 4mins and 22 secs for every text !!!
I had something similar.
When i had sd card notifications ticked, it began playing random tunes whenever i plugged into the computer.
turned that off and it stopped.
as for getting my ringotnes and notifications to appear, i have folders on the root of the SD card, one called ringtones, and one called notifications
no capitals in the names at all.
straight away after i did that, the files appeared in the selection lists. I didn't even have to restart.
Did the same on a colleague's magic and they showed up immediately, but on my other colleague's orange hero, it didn't work.
If you have a t-mobile one, just do the two folders on the root, and turn sd card notifications off.
you'll get the sounds available, without the random noises.
hey guys, i dont know if people are still suffering from this problem but i found a way to solve it.
It seems to happen when you either, format your SD/get a new one or apply a custom ROM. It doesnt seem to make a difference to ringtones.
Use Dayzee's file directories information and then go into settings>sound & display and select your notification tone as normal, turn SD tones OFF. Now go into your message inbox and press MENU then go to SETTINGS and scroll down to the bottom and go to SELECT SOUND.
Match the sound to the one you picked in the normal sound & display settings menu and problem should be solved
Apologies if this has been asked but I've not found a thread so far for this problem.
I am using rom 1.61 and recently decided to add different ringtones to my most common contacts. The ringtones are just normal MP3 files, eg some are songs, some are stuff like TV theme tunes etc. They all play perfectly in any of the media players like coreplayer etc.
But when any person with a personalised ringtone calls me, I get no ringtone at all. The phone vibrates, and the speaker is on & volume turned up, but no sound plays.
Anyone know if this is a fault, or is there a setting I have missed or something?
Thanks
Jim
i had this problem with the same rom but i found that setting the ringtone through file explorer seemed to sort it out
Don't think that will help will it mate?
You can only set the current overall ringtone like that, and the problem I've got is that ringtones set that are different for various people do not play.
Actually, I just found something out, that when I've set these personalised ones for different people it has set itself as a default tone just to vibrate.
I've changed it to a proper ringtone now, but I'll have to get a friend to call me to see if this works now. I have a suspicion there's more to it than this......
Bump! Anyone?
I've got a few problems with the music tab wich I think is very anoying. I hope anyone knows a sollution for this.
First of all, Does anyone know if there's a way to get the alphabetic numbers on the music library? Scrolling all the way down takes me al lot of time since I've got around 1000 songs.
My second problem, is there a fix for the shuffle butten in the music tab. Even when shuffle is on I still get at least 3 songs in alphabetic order every time I start my music tab. Also when I'm choosing a new song I always have to press the shuffle 2 times to let it work properly.
My last problem, I've got this game Flight Commander, wich is a great game. But it has some anoying sounds(.wav files) wich show up in my library. How can I let my music tab ignore these sounds without deleting them?
Ow and I also have this problem of my headphones. Do your devices also work slower if you put in your headphones?
Thanks, Sorry for my English, It's not perfect.
Try Nitrogen? It's superior to MW and music tab in every way.

Thanks for the reply and sollution, but I actually do like the music tab very much I think it looks very nice and I use it every day. So I was hoping for a sollution without changing my music player. But I will still keep it in mind. Thanks
I'm facing the same issues as well, as I use the default Music player to play all my song files instead of creating individual playlist. I tend to notice that the shuffle function tends to play a few 'favorite' songs of it's choice. Either that or the shuffle function stops working unless I reactive it back
I think the bug is triggered by having too much songs on your current playlists (mine being 6-7gb)
same here shuffle starts with couple of the same songs every time.
then letter repeat thingy.
I would really like to replace the music tab with someone else.
I wish applications inside tabs can be replaced easily!
So I guess there's still no solution for this?
Workaround
I have the same problem. I'm sick to death of hearing songs that start with 'A' - have forgotten all my songs that start from C onwards unless I drive to China. Only workaround I've found is go to library>all songs (rather than playlist) and pick a song, music player will restart and shuffle the full alphabet. I've also put a bug report into HTC on this maybe more of you could do the same.
Yes everything you listed as an issue has been started in two other threads, quite a few of us are waiting for a solution as I personally like the Sense music type, it's aesthetically pleasing and does what I want it to do.
Regarding the scrollbar the going consensus is that it can't just be made or migrated from another app like the contacts function. Something like that may have to come from HTC.
The shuffle button does this for me too, no matter what song I start the shuffle from it plays the same rotation of songs in the first ten I skip to. Then I notice an actual variety, also I find that after a soft reset it sometimes forgets that the shuffle is on and I have to turn it off and on again to get a shuffle.
There is no way to make the music player only look at certain folders, you can do it with the pictures tab by adding the unwanted folders as .reg entries but the music tab looks at all sounds.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but these fixes will more than likely have to come from HTC, they bill this phone as an entertainment phone (at least TMOUS version) and they include a great looking music player but dont assume that people will actually use it to play their large music lirbraries.
Playing all my sounds and the issue with shuffle are minor inconveniences to me, my biggest wish is a scrollbar.
*Edit, another issue I just remembered, when you are on a song and hit the library button it places you at the beginning, why can't it place you at the currently playing song. If I'm listening to a song starting with T and want to skip to a W I have to scroll from the beginning, utter nonsense
Oh well hopefully HTC gets with the program as I have not found a 3rd party music player that I like as much as the Sense player.
im having the problem where the song "blacks out" for a few seconds a couple times during songs where there is just no sound but the music is still going. also just got an issue where if i turn the screen off while headphones are plugged in it pauses the music. used to work so well...
Mortplayer is simply *the* music player for WM (and audiobook player as well, nifty functions for that too).
I spent half an hour the other day navigating through all the settings, and thought it to be a good idea to associate a good deal of music file extensions to it, including .mp3 obviously.
Yet, this morning I found a missed call which I didn't remember having heard, ringing volume was on, I went checking the settings, and found "none" in the ringtone file selection row, tried selecting my own ringtone (or any other mp3 ringtone for that matter) but no preview playback came up, and when pressing OK on those files, the same "none" appeared in the ringtone row anyway. WAVs tones (from alarm tones) worked fine though (I didn't associate WAVs to mortplayer).
Long story short:
Avoid associating ringtone file formats with mortplayer, otherwise your phone will not ring nor vibrate when you receive a call
Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding Google Play Music on my Note 4 (SM-N910F Snapdragon, stock and no root—yet, full build no. KTU84P.N910FXXU1ANK4), it has a weird problem playing music (plus one more thing I'll mention later on).
Basic info:
All of my songs are placed on my LEXAR microSDHC 32GB Class 10 633x UHS-1 card. The reason why they're not on internal SD is simple, I need a place where I can write data, and since unrooted KitKat is totally stupid in this area, I don't see it changing anytime soon
Format is m4a AAC LC, VBR Preset 5 (Typical bitrate 192kbps)
I have no Adapt Sound, Equalizer, Effects, nothing... turned on, as I want the raw sound.
It doesn't happen in the Samsung Music app.
Here is my hopefully simple and understandable description of the problem:
When try to I play a locally stored album, I'd play the first track, it plays perfectly fine and then when it goes to the second one, its volume goes down and back up to normal usually around the 1 second mark or so. This also happens when I try to skip to the end of the first song and let it go on to the next one. No matter if the display and app are active or not.
I've tried many songs and it always happens on the second song only. I still have my S2 (GT-i9100) with the same version of GPM and it works just fine.
Anyway, here are a few samples of it happening.
here is a google drive folder with three recordings of the problem + an info pic for the third sample
It's driving me nuts.
And the other thing I mentioned: why can't I see almost none of my album art, unless its embedded in the file itself? (I use folder.jpg in every album folder...) –this applies to both GPM and Samsung Music. Is this because the apps can't write thumbnails onto the SD card?
I can't properly use the stock Samsung Music for various reasons:
it doesn't understand Albumartist, Album Artist and Band tags — which makes choosing an album from an artist with some guests real pain (I'd have to retag my songs to lose the guests from the artist tag I suppose)
it's fullscreen = can't see notification/status bar/time, unless I swipe the top of the screen — any option to see statusbar by default?
no gapless playback... GPM on my N4 is gapless between tracks, but has this gap after a second, so.... not really gapless either!
Thanks in advance for any help in solving this issue.
So, here is a little EDIT: I was, to say it mildly, a little angry, so I started trying different players and noticed that for example Poweramp does the same thing, but instead of changing volume, it loudly clicks in the same place. And other players do it too.
Changed the thread name to reflect that it doesn't affect just Google Play Music, but it's by far the worst of the bunch.
I need someone to just check if they have the same problem—just play the first song, it should be fine, and then skip to the end of it and let it go to the next one on its own, and in my case, you'd hear the volume go down and back up almost instantly, but it's so unpleasant that I have to throw away my headphones every time it happens...
It's most noticeable in something slow or a guitar, not so much in a disco/techno/etc. song as it has a rhythm that could probably mask it.
I also (exclusively) use Poweramp for playing music on my mobiles. I solved the isse you described by going into Settings > Audio > Advanced Tweaks and deactivating the top 3 settings (Dv control, BT direct control, MusicFX).
I had your same issue I've tried all the possible solutions but nothing seemed to solve the problem (actually it was working good with the cyanogenmod 12 alpha but it was too unstable...) but in the end I decided to take it to the assistance and now I am waiting for an unknown spare part that is missing...
:crying::crying::crying::crying:
bibbo81: And what did they tell you? That the problem is hardware related? Don't even try to tell me that I'm gonna have to get it fixed?!
daffie, I'm pretty sure I turned those off, but let me check and get back to you.
Thanks guys for letting me know that I'm not the only one with this issue...
here goes a solution of sorts:
Daffie, like I said, I turned those off first thing, meaning it doesn't fix the issue for me, HOWEVER, switching MusicFX on and off causes it to either click/skip or make the volume down/up thing...... that lead me to an idea: disable the SoundAlive app, and guess what: Google Play Music works perfectly (still missing album art), but Poweramp still clicks or pops (not sure which one is that ) and skips around the one sec mark.
This makes me believe that there's definitely something about the SoundAlive app that's causing the issue. Shame it doesn't fix it for Poweramp, though. (None of the buffer/priorities/etc. tricks works)
THE BOTTOM LINE IS: this makes the issue almost solved in my case, since I don't use SoundAlive at all, and I do like GPM a little bit more, because its "start screen" isn't the player screen itself, but rather the library window and I can go back to it, instead of going out of the app, plus it understands %Albumartist% tags.
But I'd still like to fix this, so that we don't have to disable stuff, that might be useful to someone.
Anyway: Does anybody know how to get GPM (and also Samsung Music) to read album art from "folder.jpg"?
