My phone uses 60% 70% 80% battery at night - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello.
I have a problem that is worrying me a lot:
I have a habit of not letting my RN7 charge while I sleep. I charge before bed.
Sometimes when I wake up I see that it is off because it has no battery. In other words, it drains all the battery all night long and I put it in airplane mode. This does not always happen, but it does this often.
During the time I use the phone during the day there is no strange behavior on the part of the battery being the normal battery consumption.
How can I know what is going on?
I have the unofficial Havoc rom of the Team-Phenom team, without any kernel changes or other operating system modifications.
Tks

This is strange, I suggest to you to make a clean flash or maybe better to change the rom. I used few weeks the HavocOS fan edition, without problem, if you like the Havoc rom. To keep the most of settings, call history, sms and apps, I always make a backup to Gdrive (settings - google - backup). I'm using now the crDroid 6, very stable, good battery, but the android 10 roms still in early development phase, many customization option missing yet...

Have you looked at the battery stats to track down any app that might be running in the second plane. Things like Facebook or any social media apps like to do this.
I'm also running Havok build 20191009 by team phenom and my battery life is pretty good. Nothing like that happens to me.

It seems to me to be difficult battery problems. Just over 2H from SOT yesterday, I wasn't doing deep sleep. Some app that won't be letting deepsleep mode
A few days ago I kept on charging all night and when I woke up in the morning, it was very hot.
I will be attentive and check what the behavior, making my normal use.
Thanks for your answers / help

Yes if your phone is constantly got 5 then for sure there is a rogue app running in the background abounding your phone to enter do sleep.
You can use this app to better track down your apps.
If you can't track down what is I would suggest to make a backup of your files then make a clean install to start fresh and be careful of what does do you install.

[Q] Is this normal battery use?

After 8.5 hrs of sleep I woke up to only 77% battery and when I went to bed it was at 100%... so with ZERO use of the phone it dropped 23%.. seems like a lot to me but is this normal for everyone? I'm running DJ05, Superclean .7, the stable version of geekniks kernel..
If I don't set airplane mode when I go to sleep at night, after 8 hours I will have lost anywhere from 20-30% of my battery. I have terrible coverage at my place, so that is the reason that is causing it. It's not nearly as bad if I turn off sync, but still drops >10%. In airplane mode though, I lost 2-3% over 8 hours last night.
I'm having the same problem, even at work if I take my phone off at full charge and just let it sit, 3hrs later its down 20%. and that's with me not touching it. I'm running the same thing
I turn auto-sync off at night and go to bed with 97% and wake up with 94%. I had battery issues with the xda app before though SEE HERE. No one else seems to have noticed this and it even contiued into DJ05. Might be something to look into or you might discover what is killing you.
good day.
Wipe the battery stats after flashing a kernel or rom. But before you do that, charge the phone to 100%. After wiping battery stats, disconnect the charger and use the phone regularly and let it die out. Then charge it back to 100%, not turning it on. This is a battery calibration, and I always do this after flashing a kernel. I've had instances where I've had the battery go down 1% during the night after doing this.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
Eh, it's a bit surprising that display took up 40% while your phone was supposedly asleep; maybe something woke it up during the night and turned the screen on.
That's about what I get over night, but i'm using a not using a custom kernel.
try a different kernel
after trying every kernel available, ive ended up with jt's 11/29 kernel being the absolute best on battery life. im getting around 30 hours with normal use, all other kernels seem to last 12-14 on my phone.
I turned off auto sync and only lost 10%.. So that helped, I also just installed a new kernel so we well see how that runs too..

did the battery calibration and I have had the phone off the charger and using it for about an hour now and it only dropped one percent so far..usually it would be like 15 percent

One improvement I have noticed in the battery is it cut off about 1/3 of the time to get a charge.. In about 2 hours I went from 23% to 85% (with the phone running) and there is no way I would have been able to do that when I was running DI01.. IDK if it has anything to do with with the ROM, Kernel, or the fact that I'm on DJ05 but ever since I updated my charge time was cut by 1/3..
Hi there,
as you can see at the screenshot, there is about 3 to 6 Percent CPU Activity, no Device usage and the Battery drained from 100 down to 70% over night. I tried it with
1)Battery Doc (cycle charge)
2)Delete the battery history, and did this
1.Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2.Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3.Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for one hour
it looks like that this is normal, right ?
Thanks for your help

Thx for the quick response, it is 37%. "Witout service" means, the phone tries to find a signal, or some kind of "sleep mode" ?

It means that it's trying to find a signal. The more it tries to find a signal, the more the battery drains. Try putting it into airplane mode at night, probably will only have a few % lost on the battery then.
Actually it won't matter if you use a custom rom or kernel, smartphone these days will lose battery like crazy if you use heavy net data. I have DX and Droid2, they are the same way with froyo.
Also in case those of who didn't know, whenever you flash a rom, you automatically wipe your battery stats and others.
You definitely shouldn't wipe battery stats when you are on the midway. You should wipe either at nearly dying or completely full. However, wiping battery only "recalibrates," it does not increase the actual battery juice.
Different ROMs/kernels can help you minimize the battery drain as much as possible though by limiting how much is used by the cpu or background apps accessing the net.

Actually no. Different roms have all the same basic data usage, basic google auto-sync. Roms can't control what or how much data will be used by an app. Kernels also can't control how much net data will be utilized. Kernels can shutoff apps based on complier/lowmemkiller fix but that is based on the memory status, not net data usage.
What is the app's name for the battery usage percentage?

[Q] mikg 1.03 battery issues

This is by far my favorite Rom yet but I'm having battery issues that I haven't had before. I unplugged my phone last night at 100% and when i woke up 5 hours later my battery was at 68% normally it would only drop about 10% or less in 5 hours. any ideas? I have all new radios and wimax and such.
Is your phone sleeping?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Once we get a new custom kernel, it should remedy the battery issues on that ROM.
We just have to wait for HTC to release the source for the latest kernel.
OK stupid question how do I know if my phone is sleeping ?
At 7am I reset battery stats and put in a 100% battery (charged on an external charger)
Now (11:15) I am at 69% I expect this to get better once the batt stats are done.
I have new radios and the kernel for the ROM.
stock battery. i dont think my phone is sleeping.
If you have mobile data on, your battery will drain a lot faster, especially while we're all stuck with the stock kernel
No battery problems here. Altho it is the stock Kernel, i can easily use my phone for a full day with several calls, a bit of gaming and youtube (3G) while in the pooper and have 50-60% remaining in the evening
Try to reduce app sync frequency (you don't need that when in bed really..), LED notifications
No juice defender, or taskiller, or extended battery- just using setCPU with "onDemand" governor
That's about where mine is, too. I'm used to my SBC setup though, where I'd be at 85% by the end of the day.
You should not be losing that much battery over night. I generally only lose 2-3%. Have you checked your battery usage? Post a screen shot of it.
It looks like this
http://smartphoneblogging.com/wp-co...ngerbread_battery_consumption_app_graphic.png
You can see when your phone is awake vs screen off. And if you click on the apps in the list, it will tell you how long that app kept the phone awake,
So when can we expect a custom kernel. i use set cpu with ondemand also no juice defender or app killers here either.

So something is waking up your device then. You don't have the wake lock issue. Do you use google latitude? That is a huge battery hog
yes i do use latitude all my sync like facebook and weather are set to 1 hour but have always been and never had this problem before.

Try it w/o latitude on. I only drop 1-2 maybe 3% through the night once i turned those off. I have my facebook contacts set to sync once a day (don't really need more than that unless you add friends a lot or they update their picture frequently)
Weather I have set to 3 hours, but there is an option to update on device wake..so that isn't an issue either.
Give it a try and see if it helps.
Also if you haven't calibrated your battery, charge your phone to 100%, boot to recovery and wipe battery stats, drain battery til phone shuts off and then charge phone back to 100%. I can usually get about 24 hours of moderate use out of my phone.
ok will try those. i did battery wipe just yesterday
just click the link in my signature for some really good battery tips
OK guys so nothing I done helped my battery life while sleeping so I wiped wiped and wiped again and reflashed twice set everything back up and now my phone sleeps again. These roms can be funny like that sometimes I guess. Any thoughts on that?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Roms, especially ones that are ports, can be weird like that sometimes. If a couple of wipes and a re-flash did the trick then I'd say that's great.
If not, then it's just bad luck I guess. Hopefully the kernel source will come out in the next few weeks and we'll be able to get kernels that can squeeze out better battery life.

Excessive Deep Sleep Battery Drain

Some of you may have noticed that battery life on this phone can be both unbelievable and mediocre. I've been trying to figure out what can trigger and cause mediocre performance and I'm at a loss. The problem is, there doesn't appear to be a smoking gun. No obvious wake locks. No rogue Apps. I have Carrier IQ disabled by System Tuner. Google Now is off. What I'm running right now is pretty bare bones. And the kicker is my phone is sleeping, as can be seen in the shots below. The vast majority of the time my phone was off the charger it was in deep sleep mode.
I noticed my phone in excessive drain mode Saturday so I let it run over night and into the next day, so that BBS and GSam could pick up as much data as possible, including sitting idle overnight and very little use throughout yesterday.
Here are some shots to show the story. The graph, which is definitely steeper than when idle drain is normal, which resulted in idle drain of about 6% per hour. Also as can be seen in these shots, there is not a wakelock problem. Deep sleep shows as 12 hours 38 minutes, Awake time of 1 hour 8 minutes, and screen on time of 1 hour. So, my phone was only "awake" for 8 minutes when the screen was off out of almost 14 hours according to BBS.
I did notice and oddity here though. BBS listed the unplugged status as 13 hours 47 minutes, while the phone's battery meter listed it at 12 hours 13 minutes.
Attached are the shots I took at 19%, as well as a final battery meter shot after charging the phone to full while powered off and restarting, where it's been purring like a kitten in deep sleep.
Part of me is beginning to believe there is a bug with the battery gauge. What do you guys think is going on?
Try clearing data for google play services, google services framework and playsore than reboot and check if things changed.
And i would recommend uninstall the updates related to those apps and let them update itself again.

Done. Although I won't know if any attempts to resolve the issue have worked until the idle drain triggers again (or doesn't).
Thanks for the advice.
Well unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. The heavy deep sleep drain again triggered after a bit over one full day. I charged to full last night and let sit over night where it drained 6% per hour with no obvious culprit. Anyone else have any suggestions?
It seem that your signal is week, did you get stable signal and have you tried airplane mode, to find out how much battery drain in this mode?
Also, did you disable LG MLT? This is a massive app from LG, can consumed about 150 MB RAM.
This might sound boneheaded, but what about just resetting the phone. Maybe some system app is causing some type of memory leak and thus draining your battery. Also disable wifi when you're not using it.
I don't think it's signal related. I get an excellent signal at work and the idle drain still occurs. Also, it happens whether wifi is on or not. I have not disabled MLT, as I'm not concerned about RAM, just running processes. Rebooting the phone eliminates the issue, so something is obviously getting hung. The really odd thing is I was draining 6%/hr overnight, all while the phone was in deep sleep, yet my top battery consuming category was the screen at 35%, with just 1 hour of screen on time of 10 hours off the charger. If something was cranking in Android System that caused 40% drain overnight I would have expected Android System to be higher. It doesn't make any sense.
I may just have to factory reset.
My battery's been great until couple of days ago when I turned on GPS and Voice Notification (for speaking out names when phone call/message comes in). After I noticed the abnormal battery drain, I turned off those two options, because that's the only thing I did differently before noticing the drain. However, that didn't help... yet. I needed to do a reboot and battery's been fine again. Not sure if those two were the actual culprit, or just coincidence.
Have you changed any settings right before you noticed the drain? Just a thought.
had the same issue., wakelock detector, BBS, GSAM nothing could show what was eating the battery. i use mobile browsing a lot and almost 8/10 times this battery drain was happening with chrome , chrome beta and firefox browsers.
Only thing thats helping me is the Greenify app . Greenified the chrome and firefox and almost all the cloud apps and the battery is now much much better.
still ...IT IS AN PROBLEM to be found..
To provide a bit more info on this, attached is a pic of my reboot a couple hours ago (marked by the thin white vertical line). The change in the slope of the drainage line is drastic. Also, notice the small hump after the reboot? The line actually increased a bit, fell, then flat lined. More and more I'm beginning to suspect the battery gauge, but I just don't know.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I have the same situation after charging. Even in"deep sleep" it would chew through the battery. Now I just reboot the phone after charging and it plays nice. The gerbil on the wheel seems to take a break and rest.
To all who have excessive battery drain, did you charge your phone while it is on or off?
Some where in this forum (if not mistaken), I read that there is a bug while charging G2 when it is on. You should reboot your phone after it is fully charged otherwise you will experience excessive battery drain.
Mine always charged it while it is off and never had problem with battery life.
i got the same issue which is very annoying, have over 85% deep sleep, no wake lock, battery draining like crazy, and it happens randomly. I wonder if factory rest fixes the problem, or hardware issue
i have done a bit testing for this random drain,
with mobile signal on ==> huge drain
without mobile signal on and only phone signal ==> huge drain
airplane mode ==> no drain
so i believe it is a bug within the phone software, actually sometimes the random drain started after a phone call
I've been getting the drain too in the past few days. Last time i could fix it by factory resetting, but obviously I don't feel like doing that once per month. What I do know is that flashing another stock ROM (kdz) without factory resetting doesn't fix it. However last night I figured i'd try disabling WiFi (kept it on during the night until now) and I only drained 1% in 5 hours, down from 3% per hour. Perhaps this bug is related to WiFi.
Have you disabled LG MLT? It acts like CIQ for internal LG purposes. I have personally seen it cause mass wakelock in unexplained situations. If I leave everything on overnight under 95% battery, I will get around a 3% drain in about 7 hours. Pretty normal. The first 5% on these batteries seem magical. At 100%, with everything on, I wake to 100%.
Yup, frozen in TiBu. Will be factory resetting however when I get home as GSAM grabbed my attention. Never were system things so high up the list when i had no drain.

I been struggling with this since I got the phone (almost a month now). I've done all the usual:
Removing bloat
Disabled CIQ
Disabled Google Now, Location, GPS
and I have the same apps as my Nexus 5
Just last night I realized that this battery drain only happens after taking it off the charger. This got me to add the word "charging" in my search and I found this thread.
Is this hardware related, or would a custom ROM resolve this? I have the AT&T version.
Ok and which stock rom does not do that?

Recommendation for battery friendly ROM

Hi all,
I purchased my X720 a couple of weeks ago and am still not settled with a ROM which I'd say I am satisfied with battery performance.
Tried LineageOS and it drew more than 5% idle during my sleep ~7 hours. Then I tried Validus and basically the battery drained after a day with minimum use. In both case I only installed 1 or 2 apps other than the gapps. Maybe I didn't get everything right. I am even considering going back to stock or a debloated version of stock.
I just want to check if anyone can recommend any ROM that draws less then 1% each 2 hours idle (not on flight mode). I don't mind whether it's MM or N as long as the google framework works.
Thanks in advance.
B
Best I've gotten without heavily tweaking and underclocking is 0.6 hr. With some work I got it down to 0.3. still working to improve it. This is on Turbo's Miui Rom v 10A. I got 2 days 18 hrs until it hit 5% battery left. That was with 3hrs 42mins SOT. The Rom has a few issues with setting not sticking on reboot. My watch crashes the rom (Android Wear). Finally the lock screen doesnt work with smartlock. Sure is pretty though.
Another option would be a stock based rom that's debloated.
Any of the nougat roms seem to have relatively high drain like 1.0 / hr was the best I have seen.
Stock still has the best battery life out of all the ROMs available. If you install an app that forces deep doze then you should be able to get much lower idle usage. However, you'll lose a lot of notifications. That's the trade-off...
One that I've used before going back to stock was Naptime: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze
I guess greenify also has that functionality, but it seemed buggy to me (but it is probably more stable now).
Omni drains 0-2% overnight for me. However, if you're in poor coverage (orange/red) you'll lose more battery regardless. I keep my phone on 2G overnight and data is automatically turned off by force doze.
Also remember that apps can prevent the device from entering deep sleep, so a rogue app could be the cause of your drain. Facebook, Snapchat, etc. Those are battery hogs.

Battery Drain when off

Has anyone any ideas, if I turn my x727 off the battery will drain to zero in a few hours. If I just set to airplane mode battery is good for three or four days. Only thing I can think of in order to discard some things are:
When did you notice this? after some modding? Have you flashed the recomended firmware for your device from the first post of AICP thread?
Then just for test:
While the device is off, connect the charger to see if the charging screen appears.
Then power on and once in AICP reboot to TWRP and from there just power off with TWRP menu, wait few hours, power on and see if there were battery drain while off.
Regards.
Thanks, it has done it for about one year, kind of thought about powering down from twrp. Have just been hitting airplane mode instead of powering down all this time. Firmware is correct. I thought something must be hanging. Appreciate the insight.
Just tried the shutdown from twrp. Battery went from 45 to 16 in one hour of shutdown. I am befuddled.
hello i have the same problem. i bought Lex722 as used one
i installed fresh Lineage OS.
when phone is off it drains in about 1-2 days down.
So i replaced the Battery with a new Battery. But... it get also down.. to i think its an hardware problem
one more thing: i charged from 0-90% . the Battery gets really hot. (Original charger). so maybe something with charging unit in the phone not ok
I have an X722 and I have a similar problem, after changing the display I have some problems like the one you mentioned, battery drain in stand by and my smartphone charging above 80% it shuts down and starts draining the battery, has anyone tried Qfil to try to solve this problem? or is it a hardware thing?

I think I had something hanging and the phone not really shutting itself off completely. Did a wipe when doing an update and it fixed itself.
I have similar problem too, have X722, started somewhere in summer, spring where basically discharged by 10-20% daily when not using..
I always update to latest AICP. Just replaced battery today and still seems there is a small drain, charged to 100% for the first time, 2 minutes of usage and already down by 3%.
This may or may not help. You need to track down all the hogs. These were two that caused me endless issues. I tried disabling backup by switching it off and this and that... until going full rambo on Google.
Google Backup Transport and Backup Framework wuv to run amuck even with screen off.
I finally package block them and firewall blocked them. Clearing their data, as well as Goggle Play Services* and system/residual data caches if they act up.
Now it's stopped.

Yeah but portions* will still run in the background just like the malware it is.
Hence the firewall and the frequent data deletes.
Maybe 10 or 11 is better behaved but it doesn't seem that way from what I'm reading... they look worse than Pie. With unrooted phones they even block more user diagnostic tools than Pie, perfect. Pretty sure my 10+ will run on Pie for its whole service life because Google dropped the ball.
Fortunately Pie is a good OS... add to that AT&T and their partner Samsung are notorious for device killing near update end cycle firmware.
Not updating is simply an act of device self preservation.
*hopefully you can pull these weeds out better than I can on an unrooted device.
Each user/device is different though, good luck
