[Q] How do I get App2SD working?

Howdy.
I'm kinda new to the whole scene, but I managed to root my tattoo and than flashed the modaca R3 with additions.
But somehow I'm not sure if app2sd is working at all. Do I have to prepare something like Idontknowwhat creating a folder named "APP" or so?
I hope someone can actually help me..

You need an Ext2/3/4 Partition. This can be done in recovery but wipes your sd card, so back up first
Also, MoDaCo ROM only includes Apps2SD if you select it in the online kitchen. If you don't have access to this, my ROM (see signature) is also based on stock and has Apps2SD

When are the apps saved to SD? Are only new ones affected or does this also work for updates?

If you have the correct partition, all Apps are moved to the SD the first time you boot with Apps2SD enabled, then all new apps are installed there

I also have a few questions about partitioning to get apps2sdd. If you partition the sdd does the gold-card get wiped as well, or it just wipes the user data? And is Windows still able to mount the sdd when it's an ext2/3/4 partition? Finally is it safe to partition when using a custom ROM? (using HCDR 1.5 atm)

Yes, the goldcard will get wiped. Everything does, unfortunately.
Windows is still able to mount the Fat partition of the SD card when using an Ext partition.
And partitioning in recovery is independent of the ROM being used so it will be fine no matter which ROM you use (glad to know you're on mine though )

Creating Ext2 and Ext3 partitions on Windows OS

Don´t know if this have been posted before, but I have not entered here ( HD2 forum) for the last 3 months, I was busy with the Galaxy Tab. Ok going directly to the point, after having problems with my Android Build in HD2 I was looking for something new in the Hd2 Nand Developtment forum. Most releases, and developers advises to create an ext3 partition before to flash any rom, or at least for those with a 512 LEO one.
I searched in Google for any software that could do the work in Windows. Although we can use a Linux Live CD to do this, we need to do some extra processes like downloading Linux LiveCD, booting your computer into that Live CD and so on, also you can use clockwork recovery menu but is a very slow process (for me).
Finallly I have found a great software tool called Minitool Partition Wizard Home Edition, that let to make any partition tipe from Windows in a couple of minutes. Its free.

Is it possible with this program to just format the partition and not delete?
I'm satisfied with my partition but for a clean install i want to format the parition.

It will format, but you files will be deleted.
It can also delete the partition, if you want to.

Thank you for advice! I think not only this tool make the job, several partition managers can format partition as ext2/3/4. I'm usually using Paragon Partition Manager and it's been working correctly till now.

how to partition 5/155/5 internal ?

I want to try a ROM which says:
Partition Layout (5/155/5) use hd2 toolkit
SDext: min. 500mb
I am not 100% sure what does it mean SDext is probably 500 ext patition bigger than 500
5/155/5 is
5 cashe
155 data and
5 WHAT????

Do you have any android rom installed? If yes, then you should (I had on every rom) have an option on reboot menu: reboot, recovery and BOOTLOADER - choose this one. And there you have SETTINGS->REPARTITION NAND and there set these ones your roms prefers. If you have not, then try to install this rom choosen by you, and maybe there will be option BOOTLOADER on menu. These are partitions, for example 155data(system) is space for system (I think). But standard settings are good for me and works with every rom.

Try to boot phone by holding [back] nad [Power]. This opens bootloader and there you can set all.

Partition your nand using HD2 Nand Tookit.
First 5 is boot partition set to 5 by default
155 is system partition,
next 5 is cache size.
sdext partition can be set up from recovery (in cwm recovery go to advanced menu and select partition sd card), follow instructions for your rom. This can be used as if it was internal memory by your rom..

This question was not "how-to", but more "what does 5/155/5 mean" type of question. Last time I played with internal memory of the device all I had to do was select the appropriate CWM version. This is why I asked here, I think it belongs, cos is general knowledge kind of thing.
I kind of dont see how to fiddle the size of /boot, no problems with /data and /cashe, but since you say this is default I wont have to, I suppose.
A few days ago I was pissed of by CyanogenMod (and stock Andriod in general), cos the only option to deal with Vcards is Handsend sms, but Handsend will not search for contacts correctly in Bulgarian (CYR) when installed on vanilla Android - small letters will not match capital and vice versa in contact names. This is why I decided to go for Sense - the message app is simply better...

Rather than using toolkit, download the CWM package and inside is a file called flash.cfg. Open this file and you should get this (maybe a different system or cache size)

5/155/5 is basically the middle three lines, i.e. 5Mb boot partition, 150Mb system partition and 5Mb cache partition. I don't know why chefs post it like this as I'm reasonably sure the boot is always 5Mb (I've never seen differently) so they could just post the system partition size (as quite a lot do). 1. I use mainly Ubuntu, hence I have have to rely on Wine or a pc I almost dont use for windows
2. I have CWM and MAGLDR installed
How to re-partition based on config file only? Can I do it?
Put the config where? (sdcard, ROM.zip)
Run what in CWM.
You would make my day, since I am away form how, with my laptop only, the ROM I run has a bug with wifi tether and I have to change it, but options are quite limited, since I dont know how to re-part, I have to choose ROMs that rely on system less or equal to 155 at teh moment. And I need a Sense, since others cant receive 100% vcards in Bulgarian (CYR)

Cache Partition stuck @ 60.5mb used

Why? It's been stuck at 60.5mb used and 1.2GB free according to Diskinfo forever now. Ever since I restored Madvane's unrooted B180 backup & then flashed root with Magisk.
Why does it bother me? Because I have no idea what I'm talking about and I feel like maybe Cache is storing in the Data Partition where I install my apps...? Is it?
Also with 1.2GB free in the Cache parition & 1.2GB free in the System Partition, can I just partition those and make the Data partition bigger for more available Internal Storage for apps and stuff? I mean I have external storage as default location but so many files still get installed on internal and I'd like to expand that if I could alter these partitions.
Anybody done that before or can answer my questions? Thanks! Images attached

I have not read of anyone here repartitioning internal storage. I don't think it's as simple as repartitioning a PC hard drive with a GUI tool.
Do you have any tools in mind to do this repartitioning? I think it would be a highly risky operation, so be sure to make full backups and note all the original settings of existing partitions before repartitioning.
You can Google threads on people repartitioning internal storage for other phones, but note the ones who ran into problems and bricked their phones.

I wouldn't mess with the partition sizes, personally.. in theory it works, but it can trigger some arcane safeguards added by oems.
Try wiping the cache partition in twrp..? Could have gotten bugged, which would throw an error and require reformatting

Is there any indication of a problem with the cache partition?
It's biggest usage would be to download an OTA file, so unless that's happening, I would expect cache partition to remain remain mostly empty as OP reported. Probably what's in there is TWRP or stock recovery logs - you can confirm with a root file manager.
Wiping the cache partition as suggested won't harm anything and it would be interesting to know what it's reported usage is after wipe and reboot.

I guess that was my question too. If there was any idication of an issue here. Seeing that free space I'd like to have it though.
On another note. There's no indication of anything being wrong with my Data partition but I formatted it to ext4 back when I bricked my phone in a hope it would fix something. But it seems fine. IDK what they default partition type was.

My data partition is ext4, which I believe is the stock default type.

I just tried it seems like a nice and easy way to tweak performance or battery.

I prefer kernel adiuator myself.. L Speed has too many generic settings which do next to nothing for actual performance, reminiscent of the many garbage tweak programs that have been out there for years. K.A. allowed for better control of the cpu governor settings, which allowed me to negate some of the impact of emui's 'battery optimization'. A little bit of entropy tweaking on top of that, and I no longer experience nearly the amount of choppiness

What's a good way to resize the system partition on this phone?

As I'm sure you all know, OnePlus 8 pro is a bit of a special case. We don't have twrp, so I can't partition that way, and we don't have parted in the terminal and I can't quite figure out how to install it. What I wanna do is add like 2gb to the system partition, does anyone know how?

Add 2gb for what exactly? You can't extend the partitions on the device itself. Normally you want the system partition as small as possible to free up more storage, but put simply if you want to extend the partition you would have to flash a system.img that has been extended.
This however would be pointless because having extra free space in the system partition does nothing as nothing writes to system outside of a software update.

Flashing extra stuff my dude, there's plenty of reasons to extend your partition, and that's an extremely roundabout way to do it
Like i mentioned earlier, theres parted and fdisk, I'm just looking for usage commands or syntax, not reasons not to do it.

Well you actually CAN extend system partition, my nexus 7 2013 and a lot of older devices have ways to do this. My nexus 7 2013 has 1.6gb of system partition so it can flash a11 ROMs.

Latest OnePlus 8 pro fork of twrp is not working for me, that's the first thing I tried but unfortunately i can't even seem to do adb commands or mount a partition
