Which launcher has the best performance, least battery drain in your guy's opinions? Looking at launcher pro, and go launcher ex, just curious sorry if it has been asked a million times. I searched but found nothing specifically about performance and battery life.
No launcher is going to seriously effect performance or battery life in a noticeable way. Use the one you like.
kinda been a stock launcher guy but after seeing some pic in another thread they look real classy, i just don't want anything too crazy or laggy
I like Launcher Pro... performance is good, but I dont see any difference in terms of battery use...
good to know

Unless there is a problem with the way the launcher manages memory or handles CPU with widgets/animations, it wont be any (noticeable amount) different than the stock launcher.
Been using launcher pro for months now, love it.

I've used LauncherPro Plus for years. It's my absolute favorite and I've tried them all.

Both Launcher Pro and GO Launcher are speedy and smooth, and aren't going to affect battery life to any noticeable degree. You'd probably see more effect on battery life by turning down your screen brightness by 2%.
Both launchers you asked about have free versions, so just try them out, and see which interface/features you like better. That will probably be more of a decision maker than performance/battery life.
On my x10 mini pro, adw lagged somewhat on the gingerbread roms....but launcher pro was awsome...it was the default launcher on one of the gingerbread roms and I was really surprised to know that the free version gave such a quality perfomance...since then ive been using launcher pro...by buyin the plus version you also get to use the launcherpro widgets...and they're pretty cool...but one could do without it....
One con and the only one that I am facing is that...when I first boot..it doesnt respong i.e it takes some time to respond..as in even foo changing screens...i usually force close it the first time and then it runs like the wind !!
My final verdict would be to try launcher pro and go launcher....see which suits you the best...the menu and operating style..
P.S: one more thing I lovee and I mean love like hell bout launcher pro is that it loops the wallpapers i.e if you reach the last screen and swoop out in the same direction, it continues on to the first screen and doesnt jump to it as in adw....if you dont get it, try the launcher...you yourself would know!

So, I have the paid versions of Launcher Pro, ADW Ex, & SPB Shell 3D, and the Go Launcher is free.Dont always have all 4 installed, but it is super easy to swap between them, using the setting's backups.
I have seen many different comments about options, but for the most part, I know what I like about each, so I was looking for a bit of different advice/tips on the launchers
Is there any one that is better for battery life, or is that a non-issue due to how launchers work?
In the past, I saw a lot of stuff about LWPs killing your battery, but in testing on my Epic, at least for me, that was MOSTLY due to my sitting and watching the LWP to begin with. So I was wondering if different launchers cause different amounts of battery drain, when used in basically the same manner.
So, from the POV of those that write kernels and ROMs, is one more of a battery sipper than the others?
Or is the differences more all about performance, and any battery drain effect is just a non-issue?
Touchwiz is the best for speed and battery and second is the AOSP launcher. I heard Go Launcher jacks your data...

go launcher is really good for making folders. and it has a **** ton of themes. i always found it pretty good on battery, though not as good as a stock launcher or launcherpro. spb OWNS your battery. try out the MIUI Launcher..it should be pretty good and not too hard on the battery, and it looks awesome - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220695
I have always personally felt that Launcher Pro is the smoothest and easiest on the battery. Its different for every phone because...well... every phone is different in its own way. Some roms run better on certain epics, and im sure the same goes for launchers.

It was aimed at devs, but I welcome all non-troll answers
The reason I aimed it at devs, is I was interested in the sw aspects of battery interaction, much more than features of any launcher in specific. As such, I figured those that write new kernels would have a better knowledge of how the launcher interacts with the sw when it comes to battery use than the typical person who just tinkers (like myself)
I have noticed that SPB Shell chugs battery, but I think that may in large part be due to all the extra animations it runs as default
I normally config whatever launcher I use to where I don't have any icons or widgets on my desktop at all, and this seems to redue battery drain, but it may be imaginary, and not actual reduction in drain

I've never heard that... Where was this discussed?
You have a better head on than most people around here about stuff, so I have a little trouble dismissing this as the usual herpderp whenever an app asks for permissions, hah. -_-
Well, if you don't care about non devs answering, then LP is the best for battery. However, if Launcher7 is set up correctly, it can save battery too.

Or they are really busy with their lives and will do so when they get around to it, its not like it is any sort of massive priority. ROFL!
Anyways, you don't have to be a dev to answer, I just figured they were the best target audience to ask, given their work on the Epics kernels
But they certainly arnt the only ones in this world with knowledge
And I welcome all helpful replies, the rest are just ignored

I like Launcherpro if only because of the scrollable shortcuts at the bottom and the sheer simplicity. I have also asked some ACS devs to answer and I'll update their answers as they come in.
Bogityshoe: sbd shell launcher
dreamsforgotten: Zeam ADW
Tiger: adw because he's a launcher because he loves it and is a launcher racist
ive had mixed results with different roms
like srf1.1 for me the best was adw ex but on srf1.2 it wouldnt work good at all so i used launcher pro
those are the only 2 i will use, but id say just try diff ones & see whats good for whatever rom your on

I normally install and try out ADW EX, LP, and GO launcher on each ROM I check out, but it seems to be more of a what you like than anything else
No matter how I have tried to track it, the only launcher I have seen actually do worse on the battery with the same setup otherwise, is SPB Shell 3D, though I do tend to almost never run the stock launcher, which I have seen reported as the best sipper of the battery
I am beginning to think that any battery drain difference between ADW Ex, LP, and GO L is negligible, but was looking for a wider review of the matter
Smoothness has never been an issue for me no matter the launcher, as I run empty desktops, no widgets, and only icons on the scrolling dock.
My preference would be ADW; highly customization, low fingerprint, low cpu and ram consumption. Plus its based off the stock AOSP Launcher which in theory should be a great a start.
I was introduce to ADW when the first custom rom came out for HTC G1 which most of us know is a grandfather android device. At that time it was the best and only alternative launcher and til this day I really have not found anything better.

I have always tended to bounce back and forth between ADW EX & LP
I have stuck with ADW EX recently because I currently like one of ADW Black theme icon packs
As the same pack is done in pink, I can make my Epic and my GF's Epic Touch look the same, except for mine is black and hers is pink
I tried both of these and think the Touchwiz launcher's animations and transitions run on the CPU and is hence affected in Powersaving Mode (Frame rate drops), but with Nova Launcher and full GPU rendering, the phone is perfectly fluid even with Powersaving mode. Can anyone confirm this?
Will test later today.

I first tried Launcher Go ex (or what ever it's called).
Now I'm on Nova Launcher Prime ($4), and it's a lot better.
In combination with the Pro Widgets.
Does it automaticly do full GPU or have you enabled it in de developers settings?

Seems to be doing full GPU accel without enabling the force option. I have currently disabled the force 2d GPU thing as it causes the wallpaper app to FC.
I'm using Nova Launcher now with DarkyRom, I have to say I would prefer TW, but not sure if there's a CWM flashable version of stock(or something that has TW included) yet.
Nova seems to work fine for me, it does look more like ICS, i've not tested battery life to the max yet, flashed it yesterday, at work now, let's see how long it lasts me on a full day of normal/to high usage.

It shouldnt affect battery adversely. Will confirm after testing. With Force 2D option, you are able to set a wallpaper from your gallery? I experience FC's when I try to do that.

Yep, Apex is best i think.
Just upgraded to official ICS and with Apex it looks totally like Galaxy Nexus. I dont care about white clock and green battery on status bar, the only thing I wish is better settings.apk(with ICS feel on it) and normal lock screen(Still cant understand, why they didnt wanted to put more functionality on it, camera or dialer/sms. Why did they choose that emtpy lock thingy).
I prefer a simpler experience, I have installed AndyX, and I prefer Trebuchet

You can always get TWlauncher back through DarkyOTA app. I answered this question by searching Google. Remember...Google is your friend do not be scared to use it. Cheers.
Is there any ICS themed launcher that allows you to place the digital clock widget at the top of the screen? They all kick it down 1 line. Also, it would need to allow the accuweather widget to be resized properly, without having text that overlaps.
I have yet to find a launcher aside from Touchwiz that does this.
I much rather prefer 360launcher. Does the job awesome for me. Apex is kinda stuttery for me me, and Go Launcher icons are somewhat smaller than the rest.

In Nova you can resize widget to cut out the blank spaces above and below the clock. once done you'll get your 4x1 clock back.
I swear I searched and didn't see any thread on this but in sure I missed it and I will be yelled at by someone on the forum.
Has anyone been using a launcher such as the nova prime with the 6p? Any issues? Notice any slow down or battery drain?

Nova runs great on the N6P. many here are using it. try it.
I use Nova Prime and no issues whatsoever
I have a tough time moving from Nova because of my home screen icon organization. I have about 6 screens all laid out exactly how I want them and can't find any way to replicate when I switch launchers
I'm running NovaPrime on my 6P - runs great.
I heard there was an issue with double tap to sleep with Greenify + Nova Prime where it doesn't allow imprint to work.

That is my exact issue. I have become so set on my home screen organization after years of keeping it a certain way I am having trouble using stock android now because it won't let me put everything exactly where I want it.
Ok I think i'm going to install Nova and ditch stock. It was fun for a week but time to move on.
Anyone know if Nova will remove the persistent navigation buttons on the bottom of the screen?
No they are still at tb3 bottom
Im gonna try Nova prime myself
I'm always surprised when I read that someone took longer than 5 minutes to install a better launcher.
I've searched and read some reassuring messages. But they were all kind of old. Having recently acquired my 6P (got a new 128GB for the price of a 32GB, couldn't miss it, especially considering the leaked prices of the Pixel and the bigger screen, coming from Note 3), I would like to keep on using Nova Launcher, which I'm used to.
But I'd like to be sure that there are no significant and recognized drawbacks. Thanks for your help.

Really. As with things like these problems don't necessarily emerge right out of the bat. I have already tried it, used it, for two years on my Note 3. But that was Touchwiz, pretty much everything was better than stock. With a Nexus I was simply asking to the collective intelligence of XDA's 6P users if significant drawbacks emerged from launch till now, for who is using it.
Furthermore, why did you find replying necessary, exactly? I wrote that I searched, I explained why I was asking, if you have nothing useful to add... silence is golden, more often than not. Really.

Coming from you, it's all the reassurance I could ask for. Thanks for sharing.
It runs flawless best launcher on the market there's even a root option to speed up slow system animations.
I run Nova as well. No issues on MM & so far so good on Nougat - Just got the OTA a couple of days ago, but flawless so far..
Running Nova with no issues for months.
I've used Nova Launcher extensively on all my devices, and the only problem I can think of is the slow drop-down glitch, which only exists on the 6P (Of the devices I've tested). However, it's really nothing major, and it doesn't really bother me--basically, sometimes when one pulls down from the top, it doesn't fully expand right away, it comes down slowly. I'll see if I can recreate it for you.
Side note: the first time it happened, I got a little notification letting me know that Nova Launcher is aware of the bug, and has reported it, but that nothing can be done about it on their end.
Edit: after a quick Google search, I think it's a marshmallow-specific bug, and it may have been fixed. I'm currently unable to recreate it at the moment.
I'm using Nova Launcher first on a Note 3, and now on the Nexus 6P (with Nougat). I'm trying all the features this app has. I've met no single problem so far. It's a good launcher, I've set it to my own needs.
Using Nova launcher with nougat and no problems whatsoever. I didn't even use the stock launcher for nougat more than a few minutes, just enough to install Nova launcher. Love the root options like press the home button on the home screen to make phone sleep.
Nova launcher is the best
Been using Nova exclusively for years now over a span of 5-6 devices, absolutely zero issues. No launcher can even come close.
I had been using the leaked Nexus launcher and liked it. However, I've re-engaged with Nova after not using it for quite some time. It's running great, no problems.
