Connection between kernel and a modem

Hello,
I wanted to ask if there is any connection between a kernel and a modem version ?
Can I use any kernel with any modem ?

I believe so since the firmware has the modem inside. But from what I have read you can use any modem you like on any Kernel but some may not work for you depending on where you live.

If by firmware you mean rom, no, not automatically, it depends if the rom comes with a modem inside.
You can always flash another modem ontop of the one installed if you want to, and unlike in the old days, modem flashing is a low risk operation, as generally at worst you just have to reflash another modem.

Good modem for Philippines(Globe)

I'm running Golden eye rom. And my baseband is I9505DXUAMDM. The problem is, i'm having trouble with the network. When the phone gets idle, then i use it, it has no network and takes while to have it back in. Idk but when i bought this phone, it was only locked by Globe(sim) which i was using globe as well. So i believe it doesnt have anything to do with that carrier locked thingy. TIA.

You need to update the modem in order to fix the dropping issue. and The latest modem for your country is MKE mate. Have a nice day

I am using the MJ5 modem on most of the 4.3 and kitkat roms and I am not having any network drops.
Since the 4.3 update, old modems are getting network drops. So you need to update your baseband. Try MJ5.
Btw I'm locked to Globe as well.

Flash this via odin and this should fix your dropping issue and make sure to choose the right one. or go here and choose the modem you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025

just flash it via odin , and make sure to turn off your phone manually before reaching download mode.

Android 4.4.x

Hi,
I've got an sgs4 lte international version. I've tried to install every single android 4.4.x and all goes fine but after some time I cant recieve call, sms not working, phone reboots etc.
Everytime I did an installation I've made a full wipe.
Am I doing something wrong or are you guys facing the same?

Hi there mate , can you please flash this file with odin by selecting phone.and Make sure you Turn Off your Phone Manually and wait for few sec and press Power+volume down to reach Download mode and flash away.

You can use FLASHIFY to install Kernel or Recovery

I am not certain about earlier versions of ODIN.

I totally agree! Fingers crossed that xposed works with TW one day. Yeah, I just flashed the modem file via odin. Works great on KitKat. Tried calls via cellular & WiFi calling, data via LTE & WiFi, tether, and Bluetooth all around. Don't know about battery life yet or signal (cell tower practically in my backyard) but will report any negatives here if found. Oh btw, use cp button for modem on odin. And you we can always flash back to the old MK7 version if there any issues.... Enjoy!

Do we still need install modem file, boot.img and stock kernel even after I flash (through ODIN) the firmware from sammobile? Sorry, I have been installing custom ROMs and trying to get back to stock to see how it works. I thought just flashing firmware would be enough (and I thought this will take care of latest model, boot.img), am I wrong?

It's possible to have minor improvements through an updated baseband/modem/radio version but nothing miraculous. Sometimes newer versions are worse. Just depends. Mine seems the same so far. We'll see. You can always go back.

Yes, phone running a stock ROM (I9505XXUPQG1_I9505NEEPQG1_I9505XXUPQG1_HOME.tar.md5). This started about 3 years ago.
