I think it's related to the SD855 chip-set. Since we have the SD730 27w would not be possible...correct me if i'm wrong.

[DevQ] Is QC2 a Possible Dev Mod?

This is a question for developers; I don't know enough as to how qc is implemented to know if it might be possible. Anyone DEVS know?
QC works by having additional power profiles([email protected], [email protected])
Your normal USB devices works only on 5V (at 500mA, 2.4A etc)
This means your devices needs the QC chip(to do handshaking) AND power-related hardware to accept 9V or 12V
There is a teardown that says the nexus 5X has a dormant QC chip... But dunno about power hardware(won't work witgout power hardware)
Odd. Why take the time/space/expense to put in a QC chip, but not the partner power hardware?.....hmmm
And by dormant, you mean it's currently unused?
Ask huawei? Maybe their reference boards have qc2.0, more of a pain to redesign and remove it
Example: some android watches don't have Bluetooth, but the soc usually bundles WiFi+BT together
And they didn't want to pay for the licensing rights (physical chip would be like $0.10/device, license would be like $1/device... Not actual figures)

I'm not a fan of how the stock charger looks. So I was curious of the charger with QC2 2.0 from Aukey would work?

The wall plug from Aukey works fine, also the Choetech works fine. I own both.
Worth mentioning that although Quick Charge is a Qualcomm technology, QC2.0 certified chargers work on the Exynos version S7 Edge also, and activate "Fast Charge".

Yep any charger with Qualcomm qc support will work and the ones with higher amperage will also charge at a faster speed although not as fast as qc. The 820 is also supposed to support qc3.0 which should be even faster.

Hi, my mother bought this phone and its pretty good for a mid range, but I was wondering if it is QC enabled and if so, which version is it and is the adaptor that it came with, QC capable?
It doesn't as Huawei China answered me but it charges faster than normal phones. I tried and yes it's fast.

I am not sure if it has quick charging as a feature or not. The charging plug that comes with the phone is not a fast charging one but the USB Type-C cable that comes with the phone and the port on the phone makes it charge faster than the standard Micro-USB anyway.
Moreover Qualcomm 625 supports quick charge 3. Wonder why Nova doesn't officially!

Thanks for all the answers. Sounds like it's more complicated than I thought. So, the chip is capable, but not enabled. The adaptor is not fast charge but the cable makes it charge faster than normal. LOL.

Hello guys.Today i had my Redmi Note 3 Pro repaired , because a chip/module (that is responsible for charging) burnt down.
To avoid this:
1.Lower your charging rate (stock 2000 mAh).And yes , i was using stock rate.
2.Use only original charging adapter.And yes i was using charger and cable out of the box.
3.Try to avoid gaming while charging ,because the phone heats up so hard, especially screen.
I was using Resurrection Remix OS ,but im not saying it is responsible for this cause.

For those who don't know here are some things about QC and Xiaomi Redmi series.
Quick Charge (QC) is a patented technology by Qualcomm (the company behind the Snapdragons processors) which allows phones to be charged faster. Quick Charge comes in 3 versions (time values are for a 4050mAh battery) :
v1.0, released 2013, using 2.0A -> full charge in 2.43 hours
v2.0, released 2015, using 3.6A -> full charge in 1.32 hours
v3.0, released 2016, using 4.0A -> full charge in 1.215 hours
* QC 2 has backward compatibility with QC 1 and QC 3 has backward compatibility with QC 2 and 1.
Redmi Note 3 currently implements QC 1 or a similar Xiaomi-made technology that charges phone in 2A.
Quick Charge (in general) implementation requires a few things:
A processor capable of Quick Charge technology
An extra electronic circuit on the mobile motherboard
A Quick Charge capable/compatible charger + a good cable
Drivers (software) on Android ROM kernel
A license fee that is paid for every device sold with Quick Charge technology enabled
The most important thing is #1, the processor as is the base (heart) of the system. Redmi Note 3 Pro with Snapdragon 650 supports Quick Charge 3.0 as the 650 snapdragon is capable of this technology. But let's see all the requirements:
Snapdragon 650 supports QC 3 = OK
Extra circuit on motherboard = UNKNOWN (probably yes)
QC charger and cable = NO
Drivers on kernel = NO
License fee paid = NO
* Some people say about batteries. QC doesn't require any special designed batteries. It works with all batteries on the market. That is it's goa,l to implement faster charging with current battery technology.
OK now, drivers are missing 100% and it has already confirmed by author or RADON kernel (@Umang96). His words:
this kernel at present does not use any charging driver hacks, I did try adding charging hacks in past but they did not work well and seemed ineffective, thats why I decided to keep charging drivers stock (same as xiaomi). We still get 1700-2000mA charging rate with stock charger which is good enough. Also, I don't recommend anyone to buy QC2.0/turbo/fast chargers, I use the stock charger and cable only.
Although QC has been originally enabled by @Umang96 in RADON kernel, he has later remove it. That makes me feel that QC 3 or 2 implementation in Redmi Note 3 is not possible due to software/kernel (#4) missing drivers or due to lack of the extra circuit required in hardware level (#2).
Why Redmi note doesn't have QC by default? Here is my guess:
The extra hardware circuit on motherboard may cost around $1
The QC charger will cost like more because it includes a) an extra circuit inside the charger $1 + b) license fee paid to Qualcomm for every charger $3
At least $3-5 fee for Qualcomm for every device sold with QC enabled.
That makes an extra $7-10 on factory level cost. An extra $10 for million devices is a big number. Also, that factory costs will lead to an extra $20 value on the consumer which makes the phone more expensive for its category.
Also my final guess is that Xiaomi wants extra things enabled for "Mi" (the good series) of phones in order to separate them from the cheaper "Redmi" series phones.
It would be very nice if QC-enabled processor phones which has QC disabled by factory, to have an option (like an application) which will allow users to pay the licensee fee and enable the QC option. I would be more than happy to pay $10 even $15 with my credit card to enable QC in my phone.

QC2 and QC3 are 9V 1.5A usually, there is no 3.6A or 4A.
Latest radon supports QC.
QC works but it's not properly slowing down with usage and instead going up, that's why your charging port got damaged.
If using QC phone should be idle or used very lightly, if you plan on using the phone you need to charge with non QC charger.
Your answer is in your post itself:
Snapdragon 650 supports QC 3 = OK

QC charger and cable = YES ( I have QC 3.0 cable and charger and most people use it too)

I've using QC from the day it was supported by the custom kernels like Radon and others. So far, there are no issues with the charging etc. My RN3 is 13-14 months old now as I got it the day it was launched.
End story: it's just bad luck.

Redmi note 3 not charging, the usb is dead, warning with chargers QC, possible fix.

I was studying this problem, people charge the phone with QC3.0 chargers and the phone stops charging, what really happens is that the zener diode that has the charging plate for security reasons (stabilizes the load voltage) Stop charging because the zener it's short-circuited (QC gives more voltage than it supports, is designed for 5v, there is QC of 12v or more). A possible solution is to cut the zener. (It works again but without voltage stabilization, it would be better to replace it but it is very complicated).
I leave some images for the one who has the problem and does not get the spare.
There is also a zener diode on the other side, on the motherboard, if cutting the zener in charge plate does not serve, check the motherboard zener.

Processor support qc2.0 and 3.0 but hardware added by xiaomi not. Use 5v 2A chargers aka Qc1.0
How do you cut the diode?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just used a needle and used it to grind the diode in half. And it worked! Thank you!

Can't really answer that question right now since I'm not sure. It was a car charger my brother bought, it was definitely Quickcharge, just not sure which version. I'll let you know once I check.

Not sure but QC 3.0 charger does not charge your device at 9V or 12V until your device too has QC 3.0 qualified hardware(QC 3.0 circuit or equivalent) and software(kernel).
Cases like yours might be due to QC charger quality, which one did you use?
There are many low budget QC 3.0 chargers available like Aukey , Blitzwolf. I have Blitzwolf S9, charge my RN3 with it occasionally. And also I use MI Powerbank 2 (not 2i) for everyday charging and it is QC 3.0 input and output. Cannot check if my Zener diode is shorted but no changes in charging till now.
Charger's QC specialized circuit determine how much voltage (5v or 9v or 12v) and also current (~2A @5v or ~3A @5v or ~2A @9V etc.) should be given to device after detecting phone's charging circuit. So low budget QC 3.0 chargers may cause voltage or current rise.
And for RN3, do not set current (in any kernel) at 2.4A (it will cause damage due heat which is main culprit in long run) , 2A is sufficient but kernels with some ROMs (like NOS 8.1 for me), it charges at 1.4-1.5A. In such case, you can flash other kernels for fast (2A) charging.

Now in NOS 8.1 it charges at 1.4A in average.

For me the chargers detect the snapdragon 650 and send more power, the zener diode must support 10w only( i think no found info), I have comments above saying that they were burned with chargers QC, I'm trying to determine if qc 3.0 or 2.0

i using NOS 8.1 with stock kernel and original MI charger 2A 5V, charging speed 1998mA from 10% to 50 % then slowdown to 1600mA aprox and 90 to 100% 600mA aprox
I activated 2.4A option in whatever kernel I used, but I dont rely on it too much.
Primary charger is HTC 1A, only use my Aukey QC2.0 when I need quick refuel. And my phone still rock stable though
Never burned mine out but I have a QC 3.0 charger and when I plug it to the phone it charges at the normal rate of 5v 2A, so I rarely use the QC port on the charger since it's the same as using the stock charger or normal ports, my guess is there are many custom kernels causing this damage, and I think there was one rare miui beta that enabled it at one time, I'm not sure if there is fake QC chargers but I believe real / official ones the circuitry is made by qualcomm and it does a series of checks to see if the device can support it or not-which it never did activate on my QC charger at least (I have a Choetech QC charger that cost around $30), which was pretty costly considering I never got to use the QC feature, but I think it's well built and never gives problems so in a way it was worth it and it's available if I get a device with proper QC support.

kernel can allow charger to pump in high current
many users have faced this
some carelessly do it knowingly
hence, AGNi limits it at max 2100mA no matter how badly users want to use QC currents.
