Moving from iOS! I’m lost! :) - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hey guys. I’m finally moving on from iOS! Got the one plus 6T to start. I’m trying to root my device but I have an iMac all I see on this forum is tutorials to root devices with a pc..
Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I can find a tutorial to root my OP6T with Mac? Thanks in advance!

You could use Bootcamp. Or a Virtual Machine. While rooting with a Mac is possible it's a Royal PITA as compared to Windows. Also if you somehow mess up and brick your device you can use MSM. But MSM Download Tool requires Windows and Windows Only. It doesn't even work on Linux or Mac. So I'd suggest you to setup a Virtual Machine or Bootcamp. If not then better be ready to jump through hoops

Bootcamp is built into MacOS. Just search it, follow the prompts and setup Windows. After that you can follow any tutorial to root your phone. If you still want help, then I'd recommend you set up Bootcamp up first cause the actual tutorial exactly step by step is waaay to long for me to write here. You can easily setup Bootcamp by Searching for Bootcamp on your Mac, running it and following the on-screen instructions. There are plenty of tutorial for that on YouTube. Once you have Bootcamp setup, lemme know and I'll guide you through.

Just a suggestion, but since you are new to Android, maybe just use the phone without root for a while and see if you like it as-is? While there are some fun things to do with root access, the need for it is much less than it used to be. My 6T is my first non-rooted Android after nearly a decade of rooted devices. There are only a few things I miss and non of them worth the effort of rooting.
Welcome to Android. Come on in, the water's fine!

One other suggestion. Instead of dealing with bootcam/VM type stuff, consider getting a cheapo Goodwill old windows box. For a few bucks you will have a real computer with real ports to play with. A 5 year old box is way more than enough for what you need. Or eBay something cheap.

I've just started to use MacBook Pro to root my OP6T. The only thing you need is a working adb and fastboot unless you brick it (knock on wood) then you will need a PC and MSM. Here's is the step to get you to adb and fastboot (reboot to bootloader)
1. Download the platform tools package for macOS (attachment) and extract it.
2. Go to the Launchpad and open Terminal.
3. Type cd /location/to/the/platform tools
4. Type . /adb devices
If it works, It will show your device in the terminal. Dont forget to tap OK to allow USB Debugging on your phone.
Hope this help.

Unrevoked doesn't see aria - Ubuntu 10.04

Hi there,
It's probably something simple, but most things are easy when you know how!
Unrevoked does not see my Aria.
Running Unrevoked 3.32 under Ubuntu 10.04.
The USB debugging is ON in the phone.
I have tried to run reflash from the terminal using 'sudo reflash' but it will not run that way, doesn't even start.
Any ideas?
(the last time I was here, I was getting the windows 6 hack for my Audiovox Starcom 6700! I still have it by the way and it still works as a pocket PC just fine.)
Ted
One more thing.
I upgraded the rom to 1.25.502.12 tonight, hope that didn't kill this method.
Oh, it's 32 bit Ubuntu.
First of all, I ran it on the wife's windows (yecch) machine and everything worked great!
Whooo Hoooo!
Second, I kept looking and found this on the unrevoked page:
I'm running Linux and it won't detect my device!
Either run the program with root permissions, or add appropriate udev rules to the file /etc/rules.d/51-android.rules. Instructions are available at the Android Developers website.
So, I probably would have figured it all out anyhow...
Maybe this will help someone else.

[Q] Unable to connect Fascinate to Linux Mint

Okay....I am the very definition of noob so please bear with me.
I've been trying to root my new Fascinate so I can get rid of the bloatware. My problem seems to be that I'm running Linux Mint rather than Windoze on my computer.
Does anyone out there have an easy (noob proof) way to root this phone on Linux Mint?
I'm not looking to do anything overly fancy with the phone at this point, just strip out the bloatware. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the option for dual boot? If not, try wine. I started getting to heavy into the programing of the phone and had to load windows on a seperate partition but you could attempt wine for simple applications. The issue will arise with drivers however.
I have Wine installed, and it starts the START ROOT bat file just fine.....it just doesn't recognize my phone I'm fairly sure it's the (windoze) drivers holding up the process.
Am I just crazy, or does it seem a bit silly that an Android (Linux OS) phone cannot properly connect directly to a Mint (Linux OS) computer?
Is there any hope to get my phone rooted without begging computer time on someones Windoze system?
BTW- When I say noob, I mean noob. My eyes start to cross when I read command lines.

I agree lol...linux and android should go hand in hand...afteral, our robot buddy came from it lol. Did you try downloading the drivers and executing with wine?
Amd fyi, you may as will work on a dual boot. It's addicting lol.
Yeah, I tried installing the drivers with Wine. No joy.

I've seen ways to root for the droid via pushing through the terminal however with the fascinate my searches yielded nothing :/ If I were you, I'd download the files you require to your comp amd transfer to your sd and head to a friends. Sorry bud.
Nothing wrong with telling me the truth
Better I bite the bullet and take that route as opposed to banging my head against the keyboard trying to do what can't be done.
...and because it can't be said enough, my thanks to you and all the other tech guru's and geeks who help other folks out here.
Ubuntu Linux is a little different, but these instructions should still get you there. Keyword - Heimdall

Great find...where was this when I started lol
Linix Mint used to be built from Ubuntu (now its from Debian which Ubuntu is as well) so those should work.
Both Mint buntu Mint Debian are still in active development.

[Q] [root]How to root my Arc on my MAC?

Hello everyone:
I want to root my Arc and find that all root methods are under windows conditions.
I am a mac user and do not own a PC.
What can I do?
Boot Camp or VMWare Fusion/Parallel Desktop..etc.
Just follow the same instruction like the windows one. i'm also a mac user don't own any widnwos an rooted. you need fastboot-mac and adb for mac.
I don't have them with if you can't find it i can send them when i;m home. Just pm me and i will also send you the instructions if you get lost
You don't even need a pc or a mac, you can download gingerbreak from your browser on your phone and you're good to go...
Sorry to derail, but this stroke me funny. MAC user buying a Android instead of a iPhone ?
But yeah, as the dude above me said, you just need to download Gingerbreak, can do it via your phone too.

<Ontopic>
i forgot gingerbreak but it's more what you want to do. if you don't want to unlock bootloader it's best to use gingerbreak.

[REQUEST] Root for MacOS

I did research and discovered JOdin (equivalent to Odin 3 for windows) I believe.
Just want to request for a step by step guide for MacOS to root the s8?
Better ask than brick my s8, cheers!
Go sell your mac and take a Dell !

You should consider installing Windows under a virtual machine or Bootcamp if you rather boot natively. I haven't checked lately but JOdin isn't maintained and is outdated. You might accidentally brick your phone using it.
install a virtual machine on your Mac. Or use something like Wine. I know it works well on Linux so it should work too on Mac. It allows to run Windows apps on Linux/OSX
Thanks guys

I Need info/help installing TWRP on my Fire HD 10

I asked this question about a week ago, but no one has replied.... I know it is
possible to install TWRP on my Kindle, but can not seem to get any help with
this. Currently I have this:
Kindle Fire HD-10" (suez) Modified FireOS 5.6.4.0 w/ Root.
I am only asking for help locating a guide or maybe a quick walk through ??
I really need to get TWRP on my Fire, but can not seem to find a definite way
to do this ... preferably with a Win10 PC not a Linux box. IF I can only achieve
this via Linux, please tell me so and I will just have to go that route.
Thank you for reading this
