Gmail won't sync or notify - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi
I've just got my S10+ setup. Everything seems to work, well "okay". There are a couple of hickups and one of them being; Gmail won't run or notify on new emails. It works sometimes and sometimes not. It's weird. It's like it's been stopped for some reason by Samsung.
I've set it not to be optimized and all other settings to make sure it runs, but most of the times it doesn't.
Anyone else having this issue or someone who have a fix maybe.
Cheers

You might just need to give it a few days. from a fresh set up the phone takes a little while to learn how you use apps and it might just need some more time before things get settled in. Make sure you're opening up the app frequently so that it knows you use it. Sorry I don't have a better answer

Well, guess I'll give it a few days then

Phone Calls

Is it my phone or what
when i get a call I feel the vibration and hear the ring tone about 4 to 5 seconds before the screen turns on so I could answer
Do they plan on doing anything about this?
You guys dont happen to have SMS popup installed??
I am having the same issue but don't have SMS popup. I do however have dxTop, Missed Call, a rooted phone, and my apps on my SD card. I noticed it some time after I got the last Missed Call update (when they changed the logo) and added dxTop. Do any of you have a similar setup? Maybe we can figure this thing out.
I don't have any of those apps installed and am experiencing the same problem.
I do have K9 and I get a wait/force close periodically.
I do have caller lookup installed though (because it's apparently very important that I don't let my factory warranty on my truck expire).
I'm using JFRC33 1.42 but I can't say that it didn't happen with previous firmwares, it just seems to be happening more often now. It hasn't happened in a few days though.
It really does seem like there's a combination of factors that cause the problem, I just haven't been able to notice the pattern yet.
I have not done a wipe either.

Hmmm... I have JFRC33 1.42 as well with the updated radio (1.22.14.11) and K-9 Mail which I too am having numerous force close issues. Maybe K9 is the culprit? Anyone else have K-9 as well?
I have the same issue and just got to the point where I had to remove my 8GB sd with apps to ext2, wipe and now I only have pretty much the stock apps, stock messaging, no sms pop up, 1GB sd with jfv1.42_RC33_MOD
just did it last night to see if it works fine now.
I'll post it as soon as I found out whether it works or not
so far the problem is GONE! the phone ring right away, shows the caller info as should be yeeeh!! am testing right now installing custom ringtones and missed call app, running missed call app is causing the phone to ring only twice and goes to VM right away, rebooted and everything is normal but no doubt that missed call is causing some unwanted actions in the phone,

how many apps you have? are you rooted? apps in the sd? lets find out how far can we go to resolve this.. I think is related to the amount of apps and the notification apps running, I don't have K9 tho..

Clock slow sometimes

Has anyone had problems with the clock, it sometimes seems to be lagging behind. Any solutions?
Regards
- SKBG
I have... and no solutions as yet except for soft reset.
The lag ranges between 20-30mins...
However, I've noted that the "problem" sometimes happens after I sync with my Mac. But since it happens only "sometimes", its a real pain to troubleshoot.
Yes, I have the problem too. But after a while, the time will automatically sync-up again. It is just pretty annoying.. Some times I got shocked when I look at the time.. haha..
Yep 20-30 min.
There's couple of noted reasons in other posts
- one, could be the ActiveSync
- again this could be due to system clock sync or outlook-exchange sync
- two, could be the Quick-GPS download, not sure of this though
So far only one solution seems to fix it to some extent, i.e. checking the automatically sync time with network in the Phone-settings, have to wait and see. Anyway, it atleast confirms the problem is with the s/w not the h/w
Thanks for the responses
Hi
Started noticing the same problem, sometimes it can be upto 30 minutes behind. Is this a TouchFlo bug displaying the time?
I do have the setting to sync with the phone network set and still doing it.
HTC need to get this fixed
Regards
Phil
I get this myself too, i think its something to do with outlook, becuase usually when i recieve new mail the clock is corrected
are there any apps for WM6.1 that sync your time to the atomic clock servers?
actually dont worry about it, i was reading some other threads on the clock problem and have downloaded gTimeSync, i'll see how it works out
I got that the other day. My watch said 6:01am, my Topaz said 5:45am....But when I looked at 7:30am, they were both the same. In that time, I had not connected it to anything, but I had turned the phone function on at 7am.

Need help

My daughter has this phone. She says it's always acting wierd. She says sometimes it refuses to dial out or send out an sms. That she has to keep it plugged in all the time.
It's running stock software and the software is up to date. Is there any updates or suggestions you can give to me so I can try to straighten it out? She uses facebook alot, and plays a few games but not many on it. Most things are set to like 3 hour update intervals. I played around with it yesterday and it seemed to work fine for me, but I know it will be a different story when I get home.
She has put calls into verizon and they keep telling her its not her phone that its the other persons phone she is trying to call or text....but that just doesn't sound beleivable.

I've had this problem a multitude of times and it's rather infuriating. All you have to do is restart the phone (power it off, turn it back on) and it works fine. I've yet to find the reason for this but it's almost like Airplane Mode is turned on (even though it's not). Ask her if, when it happens, her SMS just instantly fails like the phone isn't even trying to send it. That's what happens to mine.
Thanks for the reply. I will ask her so. I am thinking thats what happens but maybe I'll get lucky enough to see it in the flesh one day.
Contacts
Hey Guys,
Take a look at the contacts that are failing and make sure there is no +1 in front of the number and let me know. This was my problem in November. It took a visit to big red to figure it out. Also look in the system info and let us know what version you're running, DJ20 or DL17.

Good catch Logan! I forgot about that issue xP

[Q] Problem with the Note's Email application?

Hi guys, I have setup my corporate Exchange mailbox using the built in application.
However, it works VERY poorly (settings set to Push) - sometimes the widget (or alerts for that matter) wont display new mail for HOURS! Until I manually go into the Mail application, and a minute later suddenly I get all the emails, and 4 emails I've been trying to 'share' (Notes) have been all sent at once.
Any idea how to fix this? or what to use instead?
On my old Dell Streak, using the default program, I had instant alerts on emails! sometimes even before Outlook had a popup!
this is annoying to no end..
I'm not sure if you're organization sets device security, but mine required a passcode to be set on my device if I used my Exchange account. For whatever reason I was still able to use the pattern lock but I noticed the same delays that you did. On a whim I set it to a numeric lock and all of a sudden my mail decided to push properly.

ok well, I tried this - 10 mins ago someone sent email (I see it on outlook already) - yet nothing on the Note (I switched to numeric lock hours ago), so must be something else... any ideas?
wifi is connected, and gmail is getting updates without issues.
I have this problem, too, and I've seen several others post about it as well. It's quite frustrating. Sometimes it works instantly and sometimes it'll go a couple hours without sending/receiving. Some people think it's a push bug and say changing to polling fixes it, but it didn't for me. I set it to 15 minutes and I still get the same problem with delays. It's really frustrating. I'm going to see if it's an app issue by installing another email client such as K9 or Touchdown.
Also, I wonder if it's a connectivity problem; I've been having weird issues; I work from home a lot so I'm here a lot in my wifi, and it seems sometimes my phone won't use the cellular network. I turn my phone off, it goes into deep sleep and turns wifi off, then I won't get any emails until something else wakes my phone, turning wifi back on. Like the email client can't or won't wake the phone when needed. I'm going to start a post about this tomorrow.

My wifi also disconnects sometimes if the phone is idle I don't know why.
That happens at home, it does not switch to 3G as I don't have any 3G plan atm at all (and its disabled in settings anyway).
However the mail push issue is prevalent even when I use the phone and its active - mails still don't arrive! even if I click refresh on the widget itself, no new mails until I launch the Mail application!
Ok well, this has gotten worse.
My limit is when I show up for a meeting only to find out 15 mins ago a postpone email was sent.
I've mailed Samsung support, hopefully will get an answer to resolve the issue - will update when I hear something back.
Anyone else experiences the same problem? please post here...
Also anyone who solved it
I had the same issue as well,So i deleted my Exchange account started all over again from scratch,on the set up i chose all the options I needed, now it works as it should,so what I have noticed:
1-After the setup is complete,if you go to the Account Settings and start to fiddle with the settings that seems to upset the push funtion ,except changing the notification sound didnt do any harm.
2-When I assign my custom Notification tone it also seems to upset the Push funtionality(but I am not 100% sure of this one yet.)

Dialer Slow - Galaxy S4

Hi There,
Any help most appreciated as I am struggling to solve this bizarre issue. Both my wife and I picked up Galaxy S4s in the last 30 days. Over time as you use the phone the dialer seems to slow down considerably. When you click the green phone icon to call a contact it will take upwards of 10-15 seconds to get to the caller screen and actually place the call. It's so slow that you would think the call was not even happening sometimes!
Now. The weird thing is that at first I thought it was a handset thing, but exactly the same thing happens on my wifes phone now! (I re installed and fixed mine twice now)
The dirty solution is to backup, factory reset and restore everything (logs, contacts etc.). This works fine, so I know that the issue it is not the size of the call logs, number of contacts etc.
I honestly don't think we are running any strange apps, pretty mainstream stuff.... Otherwise phone is awesome. Have scoured the net but not found specific threads on this issue with the S4.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and or comments.
Jamie
Maybe you have way too many applications that sync contacts? Like facebook, whatsapp, viber, etc. Maybe all those apps are trying to access the network or something when you launch the dialer or contacts
I don't think it's really necessary to have those apps doing that, so try disabling all the account syncing if possible (except google's). Anyway, it's worth a try.
Yeah. Good thought. Have disabled those. That was my first thought as well.
