I've noticed that the audio quality of captured videos on this phone is crap.. would like to know if any kinds of external mics work with the G2 so we can take videos with better audio quality.
I dont think it's as much the mic as it is the software. it's using noise cancellation which makes everything sound like crap and have that underwater sound and frequency change. it's processing it badly.

I like the way it has processed audio so far with the videos I've captured. Imo, it makes each sound very clear.
For example, I was recording myself killing a snake i found on the porch. My speech was very clear, background noise was deadened, then as i used the shovel to scrape it off the porch to the grass where i can sever its head, the scrape sound of the shovel on the concrete was as if the camera was right there by the shovel, clear and precise... hearing the friction of the porch floor and steel. Then once i wanted to show my son (3 years old) what i found, I went to open the screen door and opening of the door sounded very clean and clear as you heard each click of the latch and stretching of door mechanics as it opened. It really seamed "high resolution"
I was impressed.
Now I can imagine in some applications where advanced noise cancellation can be ill-advised, but i haven't had ANY complaints with it yet. :good:

have you also tried the Audio Zoom function?
while recording video you can select on the screen where you want to emphasize audio. You're supposed to hear that particular areas sound amplified when you play the video.

try to avoid placing your fingers near the bottom of the phone near the audio jack and the top right. Happened to me also.

:good: Best post ever. That should be the new mic testing benchmark.
Distortion and scratchy/static in background
Made some videos of my pet bird in my room, which is silent, except for his chirping/talking/singing and noticed that his voice was distorted and there was a static in the background. Considering the room is silent and there were no other sounds other than a car driving by, which was distorted as well, I know it's not some background noise. I imported the video to my computer and the sound is very distorted and 'staticy'.
I then went to absolute stock by using the LGtools method and tried recording under the same conditions and had similar results.
There was a speaker and loudness fix posted elsewhere that I was going to try but it makes no mention of adjustments to the mic so I wasn't sure that would address the problem.
I'm using AT&T version. No audio mods of any sort. Distortion was on stock camera and the Lenovo Super Camera app as well.
If a sample video would be helpful, let me know and I can upload it to youtube or some place similar.
Have you guys ever thought of using an external mic with the LG G2, like Sony's STM10 stereo-microphone-stm10?
It is the microphone that is bundled (I believe), with the latest Xperia Z2 phone, and it says it can record great audio from live concerts.
Could somebody please try it before I buy one?

I think it is compatible with the G2, you could try it!

Hi there!
My Galaxy Note 4 has quite perceptible hissing / white noise coming out from loudspeaker when something is playing, even if sound level is set to 0.
Has anyone else this problem? Should I ask for repair/replacement? or there is hope that Lollipop update will fix it?
youtube.com/watch?v=bkCsqFlEUuA
Thanks!
I can hear a similar sound on my note 4, but I wouldn't call it terrible.
the noise a Samsung 2A charger makes is far worse.
I have good ears, but I can't hear the sound unless I put the back of my phone to my ear.

My Note 4 and my friend's Note 4 does same but, doesn't bother me at all.
Tried now my old phones: S2, S3, S4 and they all do some similar noises.
Hi guys, thanks for replied! Note 4 belongs to my wife, she complained me about this. And in fact this hissing is recognizable from 20-30 cm in quiet room. For comparison my Note 3 has almost no sound at all even if you put your ear next to the loudspeaker. So it looks like common deffect for Note 4... this is bad because I spend so much time convincing my wife to switch from iPhone

Well it's not really a defect, you can hear it only when you listen to something and you put the sound to 0 or after you press on a something, but it's switching off shortly after the playback of the sound (when you click on an icon or key).
It's just the sound the speaker makes when is on, but when you turn up the volume even a little from 0 you will not hear it anymore.

Actually it is not a case with my wife's Note 4. When we set the sound level to 1, hissing changes the pattern, but is still there and almost the same loud this "imperfection" is defect for me, it is like famous hissing in the headphones, it impairs the perception of the sound content. There is no excuses to have it in the modern devices. It is minus to Galaxy Note 4. If I would review this phone I would definitely pay attention to it.
What do you think is is hardware or software issue?

I guess it's hardware, probably the speakers they used on the Note 4 just makes that noise I tried 2x Note 4 and the noise is identical.

Well, if this is hardware problem then it is not fixable. This is bad. Nevertheless thanks for reply! Actually I have one more question, do you have this kind of hissing / white noise when you record video? Because I have, every time I film something on Note 4 even in an absolutely quite room I always have strong background hissing / white noise! Do you have it?
I have a galaxy note 4 and listened to all my music on this phone via leads and BT. I can confirm there is now an issue with this sound which in my case has come about only recently when I upgraded to Lollipop. Until then the sound was fantastic - now it has a kind of whirring background noise which starts when any playback is started and stops a couple of seconds after stopping. This noise was definitely not apparent before. I still have my old galaxy S3 which I have compared this with - the old S3 does have a very low continual hiss but this is constant and also inaudible when playing music at any volume. The Note 4 used to be like this but is now appalling and I cannot listen to it!
OP - Can I confirm you are running Lollipop Android?
Dropped phone, solved problem!
Horrible hissing sound! Unbearable especially when ran through an amplified system like car audio. I have tried multiple headphones and sound systems, I even swapped the device at my carrier and sent it to Samsung TWICE! Samsung swapped components to no avail both times. Also broke and fixed my s-pen on a random side note lol.
All of that aside I fixed problem! DO NOT TRY THIS SOLUTION!!!
After simply just living with the hissing problem for a few months to the point where I just pulled an old HTC Ruby out of storage to use as my all around MP3 player I accidentally fixed the problem.
SOLUTION: I dropped my phone flat on its back from standing texting position onto a hard laminate floor that covers a concrete foundation and it works perfactly now lol! Case: UAG.
That having been said it looks like a confirmed hardware problem and does not sound like a permanent fix... :crying:
Hello, I recently bought the Note 4 snapdragon variant (910F) and the rear speaker had a terrible hissing and static pop after audio being played. I returned the phone because of it, it was unacceptable. I really liked the phone so I heard that the Exynos variant has a different sound DAC.
Can some Exynos variant owner check for me if the speaker is hissing too? Like lock your phone (it should make a lock sound) then immediately put the rear speaker right next to your ear and listen if you can hear some static noise and then "click".
Thank you!

I have the exynos variant of the samsung A5 2016 and after updating to marshmallow or rooting it(somewhere between those two processes) I noticed my phone made this static noise when I turn off the screen.
While in a call and my screen is off I hear the noise again
Also when I plug my earphones and I pause the music the sound is still there.
But when I turn the screen on the sound stops...
Don't know the reason for this and I hope it can be fixed somehow.
PS. sorry for bad english
Hi I previously had a Galaxy Note 3 and went to this now I am trying to get used to the speakers. Is it normal for it to have a slightly..monoish sound like am radio compared to the note 3?they both have one speaker so idk why
Maybe it's due to the waterproofing ?
It's the waterproofing. Still, its slightly better than the Note 7 speaker.
Well, I would expect mono sound from a mono sound system. And it's a phone speaker, I never understood when reviewers complained they the phone speaker didn't sound great, what exactly they expected to hear. If you can have a phone conversation through it, it's doing its job
I just got this S5 a week ago and two days ago the speaker, or audio to the speaker stopped working. At first I thought I had done something, then had a VZ store rep look it over, and he could find nothing in the settings that could be blamed.
I had a service tech at an independent shop look it over, and he speculated it is a faulty speaker.
I get audio in a bluetooth, or wired earbuds. But not in the speaker.
Any ideas? Is this speaker known to fail?
Have you been playing music at full volume on the speaker and did you recently get the phone wet or drop it

BOLD STATEMENT:
I ordered a pair of neon yellow (because they didn't have orange) Galaxy Buds by AKG.
HISTORY:
I have been babying a pair of at least 5 year old Bose Quiet Comfort 20s, WIRED I might add. Yes, the QC20s were simple and worked for me very well for noise-cancelling during travel and hours and hours of conf calls without dropping. Now the QC20s will have to play second fiddle (with USB-C to headset jack adapter) since the Galaxy Note 10+ ditched the headphone jack.
INITIAL THOUGHTS:
(currently listening to NIN compilation album using Pulsar+ app - on my NOTE 8 no equalization to the sound output)
Its NEON YELLOW! And with my darker skin tone (Asian), it looks a bit off....but who cares. Out of the box, these things are very lightweight. The default in-ear rubber pads fit snug in my ears. Whats quite amazing, the ambient noise isolation is awesome. I had Godzilla: King of Monsters playing in the background of my workstation piped over some DOSS BT speakers at 35% and couldn't hear Godzilla. I definitely felt the bass of the movie track. I had to double check my Buds settings to make sure, and by triggering the Ambient sound setting, it let me know that the Buds were isolating my music experience. WOW.
The customizable taps to the left/right buds are very responsive. I love the customizable long press taps. I've set one to voice commands and the other to allow me to listen to ambient sounds.
Keep in mind this is first look/listen. I'll keep this thread updated as I get more time with the buds.
I'd like to hear what you all think after using the Galaxy Buds. They sure look sexier than the stupid AirPods.
Will receive mine today on black colour. Never before used wireless headphones. I need them mostly for calls.

The buds aren't great for calls.
I use them for the gym because they stay in and are fairly comfortable.
I tried the Buds out when I had the Note9 a few months ago and with my phone in my pocket and going for a walk the music would skip every 30-45 seconds. We are only talking maybe a 3' to 4' distance (I am 6'-1" tall) from my phone in my pocket to the buds and I guess the "obstruction" of pants in the way and it would skip. I haven't tried them again with my current S10+ but I might with the Note10+.

That crazy that they did that with your Note 9.
I actually bought them when I got my S10+, I didn't pre-order so I missed out on the free set but I didn't have to get white so I got the black ones. I have never once had them disconnect while using my S10+.
I'm not quite as tall as you but I am 5'11", I don't know for sure and it's too early for me to look it up (don't have a full cup of coffee in me yet) but did the Bluetooth version in the phone change from the Note 9 to the S10+?
I run with mine daily, phone in my pocket and they have never disconnected once.
Samsung caught me with my pants down on this release. All my kit was expected to arrive today and I'm leaving on a trip to the mountains till Sunday evening. Imagine my surprise when the phone and buds came yesterday! I have no case and no screen protector yet. At the least I played with the phone and checked out the buds. I am so impressed, I brought them with me while camping. The case is so small and pocketable. Can't wait to find a quiet time to test them.
Pass on the Buds, no onboard storage. I have both versions on the Icons with 4gb. I never take my phone in the gym(and never want to). BTW my Icons easily get 20-30 ft range from phone.

Received them yesterday, on black colour. First time with wireless headphones.
Tried them several times and none complained about my voice.
Tested thoroughly with my wife and my brother, both said me that hear me way more clearly that the phone itself.
