Is there an app to have Navigation Gesture Pill just like iOS or Google Pixel phones have?

Been looking for this as well. The navigation gestures from XDA sadly isn't very good, compared to the Google stock one :/

what about the quick panel 'navigation bar' toggle, leaving you with 3 lines at the bottom of the screen (swipe from these bars to the top of the screen) : right (back), middle (home screen from any page or recent/google assistant from the home screen), left (opened pages ?), middle to right (the windows alt-tab combination) ? No need to pay for something already provided...

Have you tried "One Hand Operation +" by Samsung Electronics in the Galaxy Store? I have tried the app on Note 9 before and just playing around with this app on S10 plus and it is very creative. It lets you create more gestures if you need, along with recent, back and home. Pretty Interesting. Although the default gesture control is painful in the beginning, when your hand gets the muscle memory, it's easier than pill (hide those ugly 3 lines at the bottom.
Edit: Here is the link to the app in Playstore - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.sidegesturepad&hl=en_US

One handed use limitations like notification bar

I am strongly considering the Note II. I know one handed use isn't really ideal, but you do need to do that occasionally. One issue I can see is bringing down the notification window. Are there any shortcuts to doing this? Any other times that one-handed use seems like a PIA?
Thanks!
Well you can replace Touchwiz launcher with something like Apex which has gestures, for example swipe down and notification bar will come down or double tap etc.
Not sure of a similar gesture based app exists that works with Touchwiz.

I do this onehansed with no real issue. I would say I have average size hands. Might be difficult with small hands. I have to stretch to reach all the way across the screen onehanded, but it isnt impossible. I will say note2 is more comfortable for this than note1

Agreed, a replacement launcher is sensible anyway, given how horrid Touchwiz is (personal opinion, I know), so something like Apex or Nova (my choice) gets around this. With Nova a simple downwards-swipe anywhere brings down the notification menu.

GMD Gesture is an app that lets you cray your own features that work any where. I got it originally for my tablet, but now use it on my galaxy nexus too. Works great. Waiting for the note 2 to hit states.

Flat PIE or PIEbar

The functionality of the navbar can be modified extensively. You can make it autohide like the dock in OS X or the taskbar in windows, you can add custom buttons to it, change the location of the buttons, change what the buttons do and give them longpress functionality, and so forth.
But you can't make it do the one thing that makes PIE brilliant: be always hidden, and pop up instantly as you slide from an edge onto a button, and simultaneously and instantaneously disappear and activate the button as you lift your finger.
So I like the PIE metaphor, but I don't like its semicircle shape or the fact that you can't customize it. Therefore, how can I give the navbar the functionality that PIE has, underlined above? Or, not as good but still better than default PIE, how can I make PIE flat instead of semicircle?
Personally I hate PIE, find it annoying. I hope it never finds a way into AOSP.

That's fine. It's also completely irrelevant lol... I'm just looking for info on how I can modify the navbar to have PIE functionality (or alternatively, how to change PIE to a flat shape like the navbar).
You're right. I probably shouldn't have posted.
I've been wanting the same thing. Hopefully its possible.

You know you can disable it right? Even on PA you don't have to use PIE if you don't want to.
why not simply using tablet ui. you get one small combined bar, left side buttons right side status informations and notifications.
personally i love the pie idea *not the flat bar* coz of full screen gaming..

Because that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. It doesn't feature what I explained above..."the one thing that makes PIE brilliant: be always hidden, and pop up instantly as you slide from an edge onto a button, and simultaneously and instantaneously disappear and activate the button as you lift your finger."
It's the combination of not being on the screen ever except for a split second, and the ability to slide onto a button and lift up to activate it.
You are a developer, do you know what I would have to modify to make the navbar function like this? Or, alternatively, to make PIE in a flat, navbar-like theme instead of sci-fi semicircle?
I think PIE beats any cyonegen ROM functions...PIE will end up being part of android OS in the future, its so simple and clean, it can't be annoying because the blackberry z10 utilizes touch/swipe everything to use the phone..

I think another idea about Pie, would be to have a Navbar that comes up like pie. I mean, that when you drag the finger up from the bottom, rather than having a semicircle (pie) shape, you could have the a rectangular bar with buttons (something like the nav bar). So rather than dragging the finger diagonally to the buttons, the user could drag up(start rectangular pie) and then drag to the left or right.
I know it sounds a bit wonky, but I think it's a neat idea. I would make a few conceptual images later today. IMO pie in it's current form is amazing. I am really looking forward to see where Pie development goes.
I believe AOKP has a navbar option that auto-hides it with a small trigger to bring it back up, similar to the Windows auto-hide taskbar option.

That's EXACTLY what I'm describing. I love PIE, I don't love the semicircle shape, I prefer a bar shape. At the same time, you can customize the navbar but you can't customize PIE, so I'd like to just give PIE functionality to the navbar.

Ya a lot of ROMs do. It doesn't really accomplish anything like what PIE does (as described in my posts above). That's why I'm trying to give PIE functionality to the navbar.
It doesn't really seem like it would be very complicated to theme PIE into a flat bar shape, to look like the navbar. I'm willing to do the coding if someone can explain what I need to do. Really though, like I've been saying, the navbar is customizable whereas PIE isn't, so I'd prefer to code PIE functionality into the navbar.

I suppose there's some difference. I use LMT to get PIE controls on CM 10.1 (the default implementation is pretty limited) and it's not much different from the AOKP feature I mentioned. I hope you find what you're looking for.

No it is not. The topic of this thread is about whether it is possible to create a hybrid of pie and the navbar with the appearance of the navbar but with the functionality of PIE. If you wish to discuss the navbar, you are free to discuss it in your own thread.
Furthermore, this thread is in the Q&A section. OP asked a question, so your post should answer his question. This is not General Discussion.

Thanks but it's not at all what I'm trying to accomplish. People have offered up various alternatives so I should be clear:
What PIE does is very unique, and things like hidden navbar and button savior are entirely unlike it. It's the mechanism of sliding from an edge > buttons appear > lift finger > button activates as the menu disappears. It's a very brilliant, modern paradigm, seen in UIs like Ubuntu Phone

First impressions of motox by previous S3/note2 owner

I've been interested in the Motox ever since I saw the touchless control (we are getting closer and closer to the star trek computer).
My 3 year experience with Android has been 99% Samsung. Today I went into Rogers to see how the Motox feels in the hand and they had a working display unit. And I have to say, although I'm not that impressed with the physical feel of the phone. The responsiveness is amazing. I can't believe there are no jitters or Jerkiness or lag when swiping between home pages. And a true indicator of the speed of this phone is the app drawer when transitioning between apps and widgets I every Samsung device there's a stutter when doing this. Not so on the Motox.
I did the mange to open any apps because I was in a rush.
Very impressed I'm looking for a used one. But not any are up for sale.

So I ended up buying a slightly used Motox and I'm so glad. Some of my first impressions:
Cons
*no Control panel in the notification shade
*I liked the settings key on my S3, very handy. why do we need the all apps key.
*No Physical home key. Although I am getting use to the onscreen buttons.
*Wireless charging. I got use to this on my S3. I don't know why manufactures aren't including this.
*No letters in the contacts, when I open the contacts app on the S3 it had the letters on the right so you can quickly scroll to the name you want.
*Can't delete or add home screens. What the heck?
*I don't like the Carrier name in the notification shade
*Gallery app, not as good as the Samsung app. In the Samsung app you could drag and drop pictures into other folders (very useful)
Pros
*Smoothness
*touches control
*Transitions between app drawer and widgets is fantastic no lag
*Opening up the play store and pressing the menu, also no lag. Samsung should take notes.
*scrolling Smoothness is unreal.
*Speed of the device, everything opens up so much faster and with no lag, compared to my galaxy S3. This phone really proves you don't need high specs to run smooth. Just less bloat (touchwiz)
Notes
Screen size. Would have been better as a 4.8" screen. I don't care much about 720 vs 1080. But a slightly bigger screen would have been nice

There are controls in the shade. Either pull down with two fingers or hit the icon in top right hand corner when shade is pulled down. There are tour toggles. As you use the phone more or have things on ie bluetooth it adds to the shade.
As for settings key I'm not sure what you're talking about. Maybe the menu button?
Although not idea, you can download a third party launcher. That will allow you to change amount of home screens. 4.4 will have this baked in though.

One other pet peeve with the motox is volume control. With touchwiz when you press the volume buttons you get a little settings icon which you can press to adjust different volumes(media, ringer, alarms) it was very handy. Wish the X had that. It's a little thing, but very useful.

It's easier to press anything on the lower half of the screen with 1 hand than at the very top corners. To me, the settings button is not obsolete for 1 hand use that doesn't require stretching or shifting my hand around.

I'm coming from an S3 aswell and I have to say that the menu button was indeed very handy. It's easier than having to find the icon that takes different places in each app, also saves screen space.
2. The physical/sensitive buttons are a lot better than the virtual ones. Although I'm getting used to it, the physical ones do never takes screen space. Some apps don't handle the virtual buttons very well. Also, it was easier when the phone was at the table or somewhere and I could just press the home button to check battery level and the time. With Moto X I need to grab it and press the power button.
3. I have some favorites in the contacts list and the scroll doens't seem to show over them, I have to scroll down a little till the numbers and then only after I can use the right side scroll through letters. Very annoying.
4. I took like 100 photos with the camera and some I couldn't even recognize the people in it. The focus is very slow, and the quality is terrible.
5. I live in Brazil and the touchless control/google now is useless here. It's only useful to check weather and search the web, as the other commands are not available in portuguese.
Beside those, and the touchless control not being available, and the camera, the Moto X is much nicer than the S3. It's impressively fast and smooth; the sound (in my opinion) is much better, without trembles; the hardware seems much more well finished; the battery is impressively better, with the Moto X I could get a day and 5 hours and on the S3 I could barely get 22 hours; it seems to charge a lot faster aswell;
And that's it! For future people coming from S3, if you don't care for the camera that much, move on to Moto X and will be a good upgrade. I do miss the S3 camera where it was only point and shot, and 90% of the time it was a great picture. With Moto X I get to shoot 10 to get 1 good to use. But that's it, the rest is great.

Google Experience Launcher

Just wonderering if anyone is using the Google Experience launcher? Looks really good on the note almost feels like a Nexus experience. Also it responds to the OK google command on the home screen. Always listening which I thought was only a feature on the Nexus 5 / Motorola?
I hate touchwiz and it was one of the main reasons I was hesitant about buying the note. Now I have the best of both world, best tablet and nexus like experience. The Spen etc still work perfectly. Worth giving it a try..

I have been using android devices for years now but only used Nova a few months ago. Really impressive how it changes the feel / look of the tablet.

Have you turned off screen rotation by mistake?
Just access the normal Samsung setting screen (by tugging the top of the screen down with your finger) and it is the 4th option from the left. Make sure it is selected... Only thing I can. Think of. Bet you have unselected it by mistake.

Yes, if you put the icons on the bottom row, then it is a dock and doesn't move as you swipe between screens.
I've got the paid Nova Launcher as well. I've stuck with it on my S3, but I haven't gone back on the tablet yet. On the S3, I thought the icons were too big and there is zero customization. However, I've enjoyed the Google Now Launcher on the tablet more so than I thought I would.
If there was a Google Now widget that is always listening that I could use with Nova, I would go back. Heck, I might still go back after the novelty of "Ok Google" wears off.
I finally did it......GREAT LAUNCHER!!!

Double tap+slide down from status bar opens QS with one swipe

I accidentally stumbled upon this today, wasn't sure how I did it, kept tapping and swiping till it happened again. In addition to this, I've also found that swiping up from on or below the nav bar hides QS and/or notifications with just one swipe. However I can't seem to reproduce this 100% of the time.
Edit: ...The reason I went with "double-tap + swipe-down" was mainly due to a few popular apps using the term for gestures and that's how they word it. So yeah - 2 short rapid fire tap-swipes(down) on the status bar will produce the same outcome as "double-tap + swipe-down"....

Nice find. Quick pull down was a special feature on many ROMs on my Nexus 5. What I found when playing:
You can do it slowly in two full swipes:
Pull down notification. Pull down QS tiles.
Or quickly as you've discovered:
"Throw" down notification with a quick downward tap and quickly lift finger, land on the QS bar and down slide the tiles.
If that is easy to understand, maybe you can make it work more reliably. It is more like two short slides for me than two taps..
Longer sentence but actually very quick...settings!
:good:
Update: I find two taps does work but it does seem a bit more prone to not working

You know, how you described it is exactly how I do it...just 2 quick little swipe-taps on the status bar! and I'll be honest, I'm really glad this is a thing now. I didn't enjoy the long swipes, twice for QS. Plus the 2 finger stuff is awkward and unnatural, I usually use my thumbs instead of fingers

Yah, "2 short swipes"
Hah, sounds like a comedy sketch

I have used the 2 swipe method on the finger sensor to get to the QS menu. I also realized a 2 finger swipe will go directly to the QS menu also.
Quick Tap then swipe is the fastest way to QS. No need for double tap, and the first hit doesn't need to be a swipe.

I mentioned this somewhere, but I didn't really mean double-tap and then swipe-down. That's just how I've always seen it worded, so I went with what I thought the masses would get...I'm starting to think that wasn't the best way to go. And you're right, and I've actually been doing what you are saying the entire time, tap, then kind of a tap swipe all on one motion. But I'm only swiping my thumb down less than 1/10" for it to recognize and open QS. There is more on the Pixel XL. It appears to be way more active in all categories over there. It'd be nice to merge the two. I think a lot of info gets missed between the two threads that would benefit each other.
ElementalX already has a dual Pixel/ XL installer.
If ROM development can do a dual installer as the most usual standard, I would think combining forums is good.
Otherwise, I think separation is the was to go.

It pains me to say this, but I think I disagree. I have read a lot of useful information on the XL forum that I have applied to my phone, information that wasn't even mentioned over here, and vice versa. It appears to be twice as active as this thread. I'm actually surprised how much more the pixel xl sold compared to the pixel. i'm losing focus here.
is there a way to combine forums here like you can subreddits on reddit just by typing in a specific url? two birds, one stone.
Yes, I agree. I browse both forums. Very useful info in each.
However, IF installers for ROMs can't be generalized and newbs would be more distraught, separate threads on separate forums makes more sense. Big disclaimers: "5 inch Pixel ONLY" or "5.5 inch XL version ONLY"
They are the same "brand" and most of the same hardware, but in absolute terms, they are unique devices, not only variants. So XDA standards apply.
I doooo agree it would be convenient for me to read one set of subforums instead of two, but it is okay so far.
