Camera API 2 still broken (Even in android M)

Greetings guys, ive seen that the camera api 2 is still broken for galaxy s6 in the android m, this can be checked easelly by running any custom camera app like camera fv 5, a better camera or proshot camera.
All of them return blurry pictures with camera api 2, while works flawlessly with old camera api.
Even though im very very happy with the galaxy default camera app finally supporting shutter speed and raw, i was hoping the camera api 2 wouldve been properly implemented in this build which unfortunatelly it wasnt.
So im trying to do get as much data as possible by asking you guys to post your phone model, android version, sensor brand/model and experience with camera api 2:
Ill go first:
Phone: G920F
Android: Android 6.0.1
Camera Sensor: Sony_IMX240 (To check your sensor install this app from google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64&hl=pt_PT)
Testing:
ProShot(Paid) Blurry pictures,
Camera FV5(Paid)=Blurry Camera API2 (Resolution maximum of 8mp) and up to 3200 iso, but normal image quality with old camera api (Resolution maximum of 16mp) but only 800iso,
A Better Camera (Paid) Blurry Camera Api2 but normal image quality with old camera api.
This problem is included in lollipop 5.1.1
I talk with proshot developers for this problem 5 months ago and he hasn t solution

Hi! I'm the dev of ProShot. I'm really stumped on the soft images issue on Samsung phones. If you shoot RAW you will see that correct focus was achieved, but the JPEG doesn't look quite right. Running a simple sharpen filter produces results closer to the stock camera app, but it's not quite 100%.
No other device has this issue, so Samsung is definitely at fault here. And only offering 8MP resolutions in Android M is a pretty bad oversight, they clearly didn't test this update that well :/
Hi all , I have to say that with CameraFV all problems said up are same here - blury detail on jpg photo , 8mpx max resolution for jpgs in MM. But in RAW everything is just right - detail and resolution. Dont know where is problem but think on 90% is base on Samsung's camera driver. Dont know also situation in S7.
A made also comparisson between RAWs in CameraFV and Stock Camera app for Sammy and may say that cameraFV take better detail at all , stock camera app has more noise and detail is more aggressive.
If u want i can upload reaults here to discuss
Cheers !

Thank you for your contribution people, both camera fv5 and proshot are excelent camera apps. I actually love the ability to disable ois in proshot and the very nice ui. It is indeed a shame that samsung didnt pay more attention to fix buggy camera api 2. I really like the stock app in MM it has pretty much everything and im very happy with it but the phone camera couldve been even more perfect than it already is with proper support for custom camera apps :/

Still haven't been able to get the MM update on my S6, but from other reports I hear it still might be there.
I use ProShot and I get blurry shots on my S6 but to be honest some pictures come out awesome, as if shot using a DSLR, and some it's just too soft. It's not the dev's fault, it's Samsung's.
I use ProShot on my LG G4 also and it doesn't have an issue with that. Noise Reduction removal is better in the G4 as well. In the S6 you see some type of weird over sharpening effect.
What I love about ProShot (with low noise reduction) is that it removes Samsung's over sharpening effect and extreme contrast so pictures come out natural.

Here's the interesting thing, when you disable noise reduction on the S6, the pictures are sharp and not blurry.

There is a app called cinema 4k which also uses camera2 api. It didn't work on marshmallow so i had to downgrade to lollipop, after downgrading it worked without any problems

Thats because when you downgraded the camera api 1 was used by the app bu default instead of camera api 2

Latest 3.15.1
I have some issues with RAW capturing on 3.15.1 , on 10 photos only 1 had DNG file ?
Hi!
I'm on stock marshmallow with the august security patch. According the the manual camera test app my phone does not have raw capabilities. What could be causing this? (I can capture raw with the default camera app just fine)
4k issue on galaxy s7 shots 3264x2448 instead of 3840x2160 using Proshot. Please fix this. No 60fps for FHD option as well.

Camera

Hey guys what's the best camera app to use with this phone?
I've seen that when recording video the auto focus doesn't work so I wanted a good app that does.
The best camera app is the one that comes on the phone. It's the only one that supports the camera's more advanced features like optical image stabilization.
Edit: it should be noted that things like autofocus are handled by the OS when using third party camera apps. Unfortunately, no third party camera app will be able to autofocus better than the stock camera can.

Are there separate Gcam APK for tele and wide angle cameras yet?

I have seen some dev has made separate APK for an LG phone with two back cameras. One app uses the wide angled lens camera, the other app uses the tele lens camera.
I tried them but only one of them work with the AI and it uses the wide lens so it is no different to the other Gcams for AI in that regard.
Has anyone made a Gcam that uses the tele cam for the A1 yet?

Thanks for that... I have tried cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_wide_v3.6 and the wide cam (green icon) just crashes on opening continuously... Never got it to work.
I tried cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v3.6 (blue icon) and that is still using the wide lens... I can't see anywhere to enable the tele lens. I also cleared the cam data as per the info on the thread you linked to.
I have checked it is only using the wide lens by going into the MIAI default cam app and choosing manual then changing to 2x and the field of view is much different.
Can you please confirm all your settings and confirm you are actually using the tele lens.
There is a solution now.

And it works well.

What makes Axon 7 can't use HDR+ on back camera? HDR+ front cam already worked in BSG

If you use BSG build, you will understand what I mean when you selected Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL model from the B-S-G settings. Could anyone enlighten me with this situation? I find it so weird that the front camera can do HDR+, but the back camera is left behind.
Can anybody contact B-S-G to help us have, at least, decent camera experience on AOSP? His build are the only one I see the potential to a working Gcam in Axon 7.

It's from the lack of Camera2 API. Though I don't know why the front camera works, i guess because camera2 isnt really needed for HDR front camera

We have to contact Arnova8G2, someone said he'd be able to help with this. I sent him a PM but he didn't answer
The best course of action would be to make a bounty though.

Problem with front cam on Nubia Z17 Lite

Hey guys.
I`ve rooted my Nubia Z17 Lite and installed Google Cam and Meziu Cam, thank you for your great work.
Back camera works fine with Google Cam and Meizu Cam- I can choose my max pic resolution : 13 mpx. And high video recording.
But there is a problem with front camera on theese apps. I can record HD videos but apps detecs my front camera as ... 3 mpx. I can`t change the resolution.
So question is: Nubia Z17 Lite has really 16 Mpx front camera or is it only 3 Mpx cam and that is a lie from ZTE. Or do I have to change something in system settings? Please help me with it
Hi. I have rooted my phone but I have not tried the google cam and meizu cam.
Do you have the links for them? I can try.

Which version of Google camera do you use? I tried some, but they either were crashing or making photos with green squares. Although video seems to work and have electronic stabilization.
Regarding 3 Mpx thing - it is probably something in software. When you move a diagnostic app to system app, it will have access to all information and it will show camera info properly. Mine shows two Sony 13 Mpx sensors and one Samsung 16 Mpx (see the attached screenshot).
@lapist thank you so much for your reply.
I download app and it shows me I have a 3 mpx camera. 3 mpx and resolutions 2080 x 1560. Is it a big lie of Nubia that there is a 16 mpx cam or is it system failure? What do you thing about its?

It shows me the same information, but without root and system access rights, the app won't show you the actual hardware.
You need to be rooted and move the app from data to system partition to see the hardware properly, as I shown on my screenshot.
So no, it is not just 3 megapixels , but from camera has 16 Mpx Samsung sensor.
@lapist my phone is rooted. Where exacly I have to move the app on my disc?

You just need to convert the app to system app. You can use any tool (e.g. App Systemizer from magisk plugins) or move the app folder from /data/app to /system/app.
BTW, Nokia camera app sees front camera as 16 megapixels.
i have Z17 premuim and i ve same problem my app camera give me just 12.2mpx in back cam , i think the secondary cam it not work or problem in software. ??
thanks you for help ;
Front camera is quad cfa (four pixels arranged in one) raw output has quad bayer demosaic, so all apps using camera2 will see 4 mp output. That's it.

If your stock dng mode has a working toggle between back cameras the second back camera (aux) is working.

This is forum for Z17 Lite, not premium.
If you want to use the camera at max resolution, you need to switch to sensor's native ratio, which is 4:3...not 16:9. It is the same on all cameras - 16:9 is just cropped.

12 mp is already native 4:3 ratio. His problem is aux camera which is 23 mp. I see no problem here.

HDR+ doesn't work.
Thanks for your reply. It seems that there is no logic to use gcam in that case.

It is good mainly for videos - gcam has EIS, while stock Nubia app doesn't have any stabilization.
And gcam is also good for panoramas and spheres.
One more question. On HomTom ht17 with mtk cpu, the old gcam v2.7 has a hdr option. I install the same version on z17 lite and hdr does not exist!
Any of the older gcam to install, none has a hdr, and the Chinese cheap phone with mtk cpu has. How that ?
