Nice, but it will be around summer 2020, almost everyone in here will have another device at this time.

The oneplus 3 is still going strong

Not planning on upgrading until oems figure out how to hide a selfie cam under the display. The pop-up and hole punch cameras are going to look ridiculous in a year or two.

Very excited about fantic mode and screen recorder features ... I hope that they push the update after a month or two

More or less agreed, but don't you think the Zenfone 6's implementation with the rotating motor is pretty practical?

"Pixel Visual Core" SoC to be enabled with Oreo 8.1

Apparently Google has designed and included a separate image processor that has not yet been enabled. I'm not sure why Google kept this a secret for so long, but it looks like the world's best smartphone camera will get even better once Oreo 8.1 rolls out.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...ns-a-custom-google-soc-the-pixel-visual-core/
Yep, Google hired a key chip designer from Apple to bulid custom chips for the company.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have a pixel visual core custom SoC.
"The new Pixel Visual Core is dedicated strictly to image processing with the company saying it can do HDR+ image processing “5x faster and at less than 1/10th the energy.”
I think the most exciting part here is the SoC allowing HDR+ in 3rd party apps. Your snapchat selfies are gonna be super sexy now.
Another reason the pixel is better than the V30
HDR+ ftw!

I had really high hopes for the V30 and was sure that it would be my next mobile device (*cough* headphone jack *cough*), but software is what keeps great phones great. I wanted an upgrade that wouldn't feel outdated within a few months, and I have no doubt that the Pixel 2 XL will continue to be a great phone well into 2019. Can't say the same about the V30.

Exactly. The more I thought about it the more the Pixel2XL was the only way to go for me.

I would have been highly interested in the V30 if I didn't own the V20 before it. The reason being exactly what you said, software. The V20 after about the 3-4 month mark started lagging noticeably and it seemed to lag even worse after every update it got. I felt like throwing it out the window a few times when I needed to make or take some important business calls before I finally went back to my 6p. The last time a phone lagged that badly on me was back with the Note 4 and I'm a pretty light app user as well.

This is a pleasant surprise! I like it that Google pushed the hardware through with the Pixel 2's even though the software for it is not yet ready, so that users get the eventual benefit of it. Seems like this is where they allocated their pixel development budget vs a dual camera setup as a big plus of SoC vs camera is that they can use it for multiple applications and not just HDR+, although since they call it specifically IPU's it'll probably be limited to photography/videography applications.
The Google Blog post on it says this at the end (sorry I can't post links here yet)
HDR+ will be the first application to run on Pixel Visual Core. Notably, because Pixel Visual Core is programmable, we’re already preparing the next set of applications. The great thing is that as we port more machine learning and imaging applications to use Pixel Visual Core, Pixel 2 will continuously improve. So keep an eye out!

I'm not surprised by the lag you noticed on the V20. My buddie bought one in December of last year and when he got it he let me try and after using it for less then 2 mins I was disgusted by the little lag spikes I noticed and had to go back to my pixel ASAP! LoL

Well Alphabet invested in Snapchat about a year ago. It has shown a bit. The Android version feature delay is no where near what it used to be and it does seem like they're doing camera work with the major players at least. Don't get me wrong, I still only place the odds at 50/50.

Okay! So "Pixel Visual Core Service 1.0.166778097" just got uploaded to APK Mirror!
The minimum API level is API 26, Oreo 8.0. Does this mean we can install this APK and activate the Pixel Visual Core SoC without installing the 8.1 Developer Preview? Can anyone test this? How would we know if this worked?

-Discussion- Mi Mix 1 Vs Pixel XL (thinking about leaving :'( )

Sighh.. so guys, i had my mi mix for about 6 months and i loveD this phone. but i feel like its come to the end of the line already.
MIUI is basically unusable for me, missed notifications, calls missed by delay of ring & late notifications, group texting is horrible, camera image processing sucks, OS crashes etc. (all this before rooting mind you)
But after rooting all of those issues went away....for a bit.
so since day 2 i had it rooted running lineageOS and switched to RR, but 3 months later and up til today i started experiencing:
Slight screen burn
Constant OS Crashes/Random Reboots
Cell Signal dropping in areas that it didnt while running MIUI
Still bad camera image processing
Call Audio dropping extremely low when volume is Maxed
Bluetooth disconnects while my phone is in my pocket (didnt happen on MIUI)
and several other things.
I work in I.T. and cant have some of these things happening while at work.
I started looking at alternative devices and since the Pixel 2 is too dang much for my pockets I'm considering the Pixel XL.
I hate that the screen is 5.5 inches over my 6.4 but I need something nice that works. I'm wondering if i left if I'd be happy or nah?
Personally, the screen real estate and battery life the mi mix provides are too good to leave for a mere 5.5 inch phone. Also, I'd rather have 1080p over 1440p as I consider it a waste. I don't mind the lcd over amoled, I love the screen just fine, and I don't take lots of pictures so I'm not really bugged by the camera. Overall I consider the pixel xl an ugly ass phone and think it'd be crazy to change your beautiful and futuristic mi mix with that humongous display for an ugly small screened phone that doesn't even have a better processor. Hope it helped

what are ur thoughts on the G6 or Huawei Mate 9?
The way you are talking you seem to have made up your mind already.
I find it odd though that I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms you mentioned.
My guy u do realize your 1 in the possible thousands of people that own this phone correct? Nobody's device is perfect. This is what I'm experiencing personally not the whole mi mix end user list. The only thing I have made up in my mind is that my phone isn't gonna last forever as my daily driver because of these issues so I'm seeking suitable alternatives before I make the jump.
Get the oneplus 5t, it will be coming soon and has a newer processor than the pixel xl. Or s8+ if you can get it for a decent price in whichever country you're from.
I've always rooted and modified whatever phone I've had and I can say I love miui it's smooth it's fast it has built in theme support which is what I mainly rooted for I'm sorry you've had issues u gave miui only 2 days before u jumped ship I would flash stock miui 9 from epicrom and see if issues resolve before downgrading to pixel XL....but with the recent software improvements and price drop essential phone should be a consideration before pixel XL it's newer it has SD 835 and screen size you're used to and at 449 u can still get 450 for mi mix easy and be out no money just my .02

Appreciate the reply! I'll give this a shot, although I dont see why stock android wouldnt give me a better experience than MIUI. I used to love miui back in versions 6 & 7, and im not saying its bad now but i just had a bad experience with it on this device. but ill definitely give it another go!

Thanks ! im in the USA, but i was trying to stay around that 500-600 price point, the S8+ is kinda pushing it being as though its $724.99 over here. the one plus is definitely a contender for the future though
I would try a few other ROMs before getting a different phone. AICP has been rock solid for me now for months.
One issue your having is the custom roms - I tried them all and more or less they all get buggy over time [some more than others]. I run stock global and its has next to never crashed [fc'ed], call quality is fine and carrier permitting the notifications [network related ones] show up fast / local ones never get missed.
Two the pixle only has a camera that's better, screen is worse more or less - storage is A LOT worse and you don't even really get a more durable device.
Been using mine as my daily driver since I picked it up in late Jan 2017 - its really never failed me as long as I didn't go rooting / fiddling with things. That brings me back to something I mentioned awhile back in another post. Miui doesn't like to be tampered with - roms based on this tend to become unstable [been using miui roms since 2008 or so and the behavior has never really changed]. The non miui roms are stable enough until you go messing with them too [especially visually]. In addition to that many of the custom roms seem to leave things out, often little things but they add up to annoyances.
Its your money - but the Pixel isn't the one I would go for if your looking to replace this thing. Its not that good a phone. Look at the Mate 9 / 10 series or some other designs.
Hi everyone!
I recover this thread some time later because I am very sadly considering selling this wonderful device. Development is very poor and doesn't look to get any better and that is a crucial point for me. I mean, I have a Nexus 5, left out from official Google development a long ago, and community's very strong and development is never stopping, great kernels, some good Oreo builds... It is very sad when compared to the Mix.
I love this big guy but probably will sell it soon and move to ... That's the problem! To what??
This discussion was carried out a while back and some new players have appeared since then. What are your opinions? What would be the best alternative?
Top of the game specs and big screen are musts for me and those two features combined make it real difficult ...
Thanks in advance!

Well, we have AOSiP that is going to be updated to oreo soon, and the new notification system in the MIUI developer rom made me have interest in MIUI again.
I agree that the development is poor (although the ones that do/did develop are/were awesome) and its sad to see developers leave but Im proud to own the device that pioneered the bezeless screen and even does it better than the modern flagships (and the MI MIX 2 ) and it is the most beautiful brick in the world.
My plan is to wait for oreo from AOSiP and meanwhile try the MIUI developer rom again with the new notification system (I cant afford a new phone so I have no other choice ).
About alternatives, I think the honor v10 is a great alternative (low price and great hardware and software) Although there is almost zero development in xda for this phone (because of the kirin processor) but EMUI is now great after the EMUI 5 update and huawei phones are a part of the first phones that got the oreo update so the support from huawei is good.
But In my opinion the best alternative is the OnePlus 5T and I think I dont have to explain why  .

Yeah more or less in the same spot. Still waiting and hoping for the guys behind AOSiP, AICP and Viper to bring Oreo to the Mix And maybe some new developer to get the phone and play around with it a bit.
The OP5T does look cool, probably the best value right now in the market. Maybe similar to Mix 2 although dev support is probably better for OP devices in general.
One thing about new notification shade: it is supposed to be there in the 7.12.8 beta (only china beta) , but it is not there in the same release of xiaomi.eu... Haven't tried official MIUI but I find it strange that it is not in the xiaomi.eu mod. Know something about it?
Searched miui forum and read changelogs and stuff and didn't actually find anything clear on the matter. And no official global beta since 7.5.25 I believe...

Yeah, back cover seems OK but that full display screen is kinda fairy tale. I and some were expecting Mix 2 to come as +6,4'' screen with less bezels and it became worse. So I keep my expectation about the display screen a bit low.

Justifying double the cost of Oneplus 5T

Hi Guys,
Was looking fwd to getting my hands on this one. However with the release one One plus 5T, I am finding it hard to spend double the amount of cash to buy this phone.
The only killer feature for this phone being the Camera + Pure Android from Google.
Another thing to note is that One plus team has a good record of tweaking OxygenOS and it currently beats all other vendors, except Google obviously.
So confused
Thoughts?

Go take a look at one plus history of security updates and major OS updates in general. Starting with the 5T launching with 7.
I'm probably going to pick one up as a backup phone, but only after they ship 8. If they don't, well that HTC U11+ is looking mighty fine too, just have to import it.

It's 2017. There's no reason a "flagship" phone should have less than a 1440p screen. OnePlus insists on using outdated technology for the screen.

Display - wish it was a straight shot differentiator. An average consumer is going through multiple RMAs to get the screen they paid for.
Agree with the user who mentioned its almost 2018 and 1440p is a must for a flagship phone.
Major things for me in order of preference are:
Camera
1440p Display* lottery
OS/Development/Updates

I wouldn't say average. The average couldn't care less. We are a nich community that tends to lean OCD about our phones lol. I have a op5, assuming they used the same display tech the pixel 2xl is better.
The main difference is do you prefer stock Android, Pixel only features, smooth UI.

The 6T, is it time to bolt?

I'm a bit promiscuous when it comes to cell phones and I'm getting pretty tired of my 5T, it isn't that it lacks, I am as I said a bit of a hoar when it comes to phones. I know I'm not alone so what say so you folks about the 6T? I hate notches which has prevented me from bolting this far but it appears this one will be tiny. On the fence about it although I know I wouldn't touch it if there was a credible alternative sans notch. Anyhow, discuss.
Notch is notch IMO no matter is tiny.
DOA to me.
I will wait OP7 probably OP will get rid off completely notch and adopt truly bezel less design like their cousins Vivo Nex S and Oppo Find X.
Also 855 Snapdragon would be tempting too as first 7nm SOC from Qualcomm.
That would be truly upgrade compared to 5T
I’m skipping 6T 100% that for sure for me.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
better to wait till the OP7
that's what I will do (tenth device must be great)
I am probably ditching OnePlus for once and all. Official updates are very disappointing, no fix for oil paint camera and statusbar header still looks ugly. It is like they want OCD people to switch to newer phones.
I may be buying a pixel 2 xl or the ugly pixel 3 xl. Im so sick of the 5t camera. I never thought camera quality mattered to me. It does now that i have crappy video and pics of important events that i can not take back. I cant zoom in at all without everything looking like an oil painting.
You will be hard pressed to find a smartphone camera that you can zoom on, sir... Digital zoom is fundamentally based on sacrificing quality.
Dito, a notch is a no buyer...
I eyeballed the Find X, still giving it some attention but there is no proof of an unlocked bootloader and ability to root yet. No root is a non starter for me and I've been burned before on phones I thought would get root but didn't. Love the design though; it's different, flawed, but different is good. And yeah, that notch on the 6T... *Heavy sigh*
I hope 2019 android phone may change much.
4G to 5G
GDDR4 to GDDR5
UFS 2.1 to UFS 3.0
in screen finger scanner
etc.
Wait for one plus 7.

also join the telegram gcam 5\5t for more shots
I'm okay with the notch but the lack of vibration strength on the 5T (my first OnePlus) is killing me.
And supposedly the 6 has the same (or less) vibration strength.
I have to set my phone to do three long vibrates on all notifications and even then I sometimes miss them when it's in my pocket.
I'll likely keep it till some good ROM's drop for the Pixel 3 XL (whenever it arrives).
Then I'm gone.
And it sucks because I really like the 5T.
It's a damn good phone.
Just one little deal killer for me.
The only way I'd ever buy a phone with a notch is if we have the option to hide it like on the 6 (a coworker has that phone). Honestly, the 5T running OpenBeta still runs pretty fast compared to this year's flagships
I would suggest to wait for Pixel mid-budget phone which will come early next year
https://www.neowin.net/news/leaked-...display-fingerprint-sensor-for-the-oneplus-6t
The notch is like r17's one. I think I will buy the 6T, especially if it ends up having an in-display fingerprint scanner.
I just swung by to mention the scanner; rumor of it's inclusion are getting more credible now and that's a serious check-mark in the plus column for me. I use my phones on the desk often and it's annoying as hell to have to pick up the 5T to get it lit up making it easily my biggest dislike for the 5T. Still pretty sure I'm not going to make friends with the notch even in it's expected minimal state but whatever, I'm a phone dude, buying the 7 or some other phone 6 months later would just be situation normal for me.
Interesting rumor about the 3XL being sans notch and it's all been misdirection with the huge one shown in the various "leaks." Getting a little more interesting out there...

Fed up with Oneplus

Is anyone feeling fed up with OnePlus on some level. This week they released their new beta 7 for the 6T. The update lists updates for weather and Switch app and this is the same for all their devices on open beta.
To me at least it feels like they're struggling to keep up with the beta roll outs for all their devices.
There are many bugs/feature requests that are being ignored and they are just rolling out these meaningless updates so that they can say that they provide two beta updates a month.
I've spent a fair bit of money on OnePlus phones in the last few years and always defending them mainly with the point of updates are frequent and the software is great,. It now I'm not so sure going forward. Looking at other devices now giving more for less money, even Samsung mid range A50 is giving a 4000mah battery, expandable storage, and official IPS rating amongst many other features
Really thinking of moving on from OnePlus as the price keeps rising and it's not worth it for what we're getting
Honestly the software isn't a problem. The complaints most people have are prices rising without anything more in the phone. IN FACT from the 6 to the 6t we lost several features and QoL things.

Absolutely, this is a major concern. I got a free 6T through the referral program and sold my 6 which I soon realized was the better device. Do miss my led and working fingerprint, just concerned that the software is taking a tumble now too
Feel free to go buy a crappy $1,000 Samsung or iPhone that provide nothing except nice screens and cameras. Good luck with that. For the money, OnePlus is the best value performance and mod friendly phone around that supports all cell networks in the US. So does a Pixel, but that is also another $1,000 phone and their updates are no better.

facts.
No problems with them here.
I've owned the following (not counting my previously owned iPhones lol):
Nexus 6P
Pixel XL
Pixel 2 XL
Pixel 3 XL
OnePlus 5
OnePlus 5T
OnePlus 6
OnePlus 6T
The 6T has definitely been my favourite device and best performer out of all these past smartphones I've listed.
The 6 has the same specs as 6T but I guess the software wasn't as polished as it is now on my 6T. It's blazing fast and smooth, no stutters or lag.
It's surprisingly faster and less laggy compared to my recent 3XL! The initial app launch speeds for example, are significantly faster on my 6T (and no, it's not just because of faster animations).
The price is slowly going up, but it's still the best bang for your buck compared to other devices in this price range.
I do enjoy quick software updates, but I'm not a beta user and it's also by no means a deal breaker for me. I don't mind a few delayed updates here and there. No big deal.
Battery life has been insane as well, averaging 6 hours of SOT where I normally get about 4-5.
The issues I have with this phone are the following:
- Lack of VoLTE and VoWiFi (but I think this is a carrier specific issue for me)
- Weak and cheap feeling vibrate motor
- Inferior camera (especially after using the Pixel 3 XL camera) (Gcam port helps a bit, but still inferior)
- FP scanner is hit or miss, and I hate how night light disables and screen brightens during scan/lockscreen
- FP scanner incompatible with custom ROMs (the flashaholic in me is having withdrawals) (however OOS is growing on me and I'm loving the stock software experience now!)
- Wrong mic used in some apps (i.e. Snapchat)
However, despite all these issues, I still consider it to be an overall better experience and value compared to all my other devices I've owned in the past. I may skip the OnePlus 7 and keep this, not only because it's been a great overall experience, but also because the 7 is supposed to have a popup front camera. Introducing motorized parts is asking for trouble, so I may skip it.
All-in-all, it's the best phone I've ever owned and I'm definitely not fed up or anything of that nature.
Coming from Samsung to OnePlus 6T. There isn't a chance in hell for me to go back. Devices are way more expensive and they aren't as good for me any way.
With storage and root capability I couldn't ask for more, other than maybe a working LED.
As for updates unless they have something that really changes things then great if not who cares. People buy new devices then immediately want updates I just don't get it.
For me this is the best device I have ever owned. Just my two cents.

Same here , recently switched from HTC with a new model every year since the Touch <1992 maybe) lol.
No complaints here with the 6T. VoLTE and WiFi calling work. By no means does this phone have a weak vibration motor.
Google camera is my default.
Fingerprint scanner works 95 % of the time. Also using Renovate ROM 11.1. I have always used an original OS, no AOSP or custom OS ROMs.
Looking forward to the full screen 7T and pop-up camera, it will be a nice feature. If your vibration motor has never quit on a phone I highly doubtful the camera will have any issues.
My last device was a Galaxy S8+, being in the U.S., it would have to be a HUGE breakthrough to get me to switch back. Perhaps like an unlockable bootloader on sammy devices, but we know that isnt gonna happen!
I hear you. This is my first OnePlus device and I actually don't like the stock software. After 3 months I grew to hate it due to several reasons. After getting fed up with it I decided to install Havoc ROM and haven't looked back since. I love Havoc and the phone runs extremely good with it. My main regret is the 7 is looking really nice. I like how it doesn't have a front cam because I don't use the front cam and the idea of having a full screen front display is intriguing. I might sell my P2XL and OP6T when the 7 comes out. I might also wait to see what the Note 10 has to offer. I'm not a huge Samsung fan but the Note 10 might be interesting.

How does the Referral Program work tho. I know this is OT but OP6T is my first OP phone. Got it solely for the custom Development. And while the FP is a letdown its slow anyway so I don't care. Phone is smooth overall. As for software I couldn't care less as the only time I used OOS was to unlock bootloader.

Vibrate motor feels weak and inferior to me, especially after feeling the quality of a Pixel 2 and 3 vibrate motor. I can't really feel it in my pocket.
However, you raise an interesting point with the popup camera not giving any issues if a vibrate motor doesn't. Will have to wait and see once the 7 is officially announced!
I like my 6T. Best phone I ever had. But, I do miss the LED (it was a major part of how I used my phones), and the vibration motor on every phone I've had in the last 6 years or so has gotten worse each time. Not just oneplus. I miss the old Blackberry vibrators that could buzz the phone off the table.
I really like my 6T! Of course it's not all rainbows here either, there's a few annoying thing about this phone I'd change if I could. The mono speaker on the corner of the phone is just plain annoying, far too easy to muffle for a device with a built in "gaming mode" since obviously your hands will be on the top and bottom of the device. And the decision to keep the source for the new fingerprint sensor closed source...... That aggravates me since I soley went oneplus for the stellar dev scene here...... OP threw a wrench in the machine with that. It didn't stop development in any way, but I won't use a rom that lacks such a big feature, through zero fault of the devs here.
Yes I am fed up with oneplus. Especially software, as it's working bad. I've heard oneplus is supposed to be smooth, in my case scrolling is a nightmare. Also... Samsung s7 gets more updates and faster than this. It's April, and we're still on January patch. And this company has how many devices supported? 4?

Agreed, this was a great upgrade coming from Samsung and their soaring prices.
