i'm on superhero v2 and i need to reformat my ext2 partition for apps to sd. I dont have a card reader so are ther any ways to do this through the phone?
What do you exactly mean by reformat? You could format your SDcard in the SDcard + Phone storage section and it erases all your data, but deletes any existing partitions. And then you could use AppstoSD2 by MarcusMaximus to partition your SD card to fat32 and ext2

Hi all,
I am testing a freshly formatted and aligned ext4 partition on my SD for APPS2SD+, and so far, restoring with TB it seems to be flying! And the APKs are indeed being written to the sd-ext mount.
So when I switch ROMs I'd like to format with CWR, but I wonder if CWR will format with ext4, or ext3... is there a way to format the sd-ext with ext4 without a computer?
Thanks!
Have fat32 and ext3 partitions on my SD card, both 4 GB in size. Want to resize them without losing data or having to reinstall anything, using Windows tools only (no Linux!).
If I
1. backup the ext3 partition to my PC hard drive using HDClone,
2. delete existing ext3 partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard,
3. enlarge existing fat32 partition into unallocated space with Partition Wizard,
4. create a new ext3 partition of desired size in the rest of unallocated space with
Partition Wizard,
5. restore the ext3 from backup to the new ext3 partition,
will that work?
hmmm, you have to try ans tell us,
afaik ,, there is no way without backing up data and reformatting .. atleast on WIN
i did a few times it works. but it may be a good idea to flash mgldr after you put sd into phone.

They recommend backing up your data before resizing, it (may) corrupt the stored data
How would i do that:
-backup sd card files on pc.
-make a backup with cwm (also backups sd ext..)
-boot to recovery->advanced->partition sd card: choose your size.
-restore you files from pc to sd
-boot to cwm and restore backup.
Well, I performed the routine on a different sd card now. Created a small ext3 and restored my backups to the appropiate partitions. Said "no" when HDClone asked to "change partition sizes for best compatibility". Seems to have worked beautifully, everythings runs just like before.
Thanks everybody!
I have the same desire: i want to resize my ext partition without losing data.
Many threads have suggested the following:
- backup ext partition (for example though clockwork or in Linux)
- shrink fat partition, delete ext and create new larger ext
- restore backup
I'm sure this routine will work, but it seems rather inefficient.
Therefore my question is: can't i use Minitool Partition Wizard to shrink the fat partition and then enlarge the ext partition all through resizing (and all while the data)?
Can use minitool partition wizard home edition it's free for personal use you can create, resize ,delete any kind of partitions included ext3 and ext4
*Backup your data first

saeid63t, i tried resizing with minitool PW.
While it can successfully resize fat32 partitions (and retain data) it cannot resize or merge ext3 partitions.
Fortunately Gparted can. I downloaded and burned the Gparted bootable live cd. Once booted I resized the ext3 partition while retaining all data of the ext3 partition.
The end result: i enlarger my ext-partition in 10 minutes without restoring or reinstalling any data from recovery and without formating or recreating partitions from scratch again. Gparted all the way for more efficiency!
Write data to ext3

How did you restore data(write data) to new ext3 partition ??
please help....
I couldn't get Mini-Partition or EaseUS to resize the EXT3 partition. I could easily create a larger one, but copying will put the EXT3 partition only into unallocated space, not integrate into an existing EXT3 partition. I even tried reducing the FAT32 partition on my smaller SD card to make room to resize the existing EXT3 partition and the same problem happened.
Does anyone know how to resize an EXT3 partition? You'd think this would be more widely asked about or addressed, given how people will move from smaller to larger SD cards. Yet... once you've got a 2Gb EXT3 partition, you never need to increase it (at least given the current Android ROM's). So, I just moved all of my apps back to the phone, installed the new SD card, then moved them back manually. Thankfully I'm just starting out and didn't have more than a dozen apps to move.
It seems we can use minitool pw to manage sd card partition directly, like resize partition, delete partition, extend partition and copy partititon.
i accidentally created a EXT partition on my sd card using clockwork recovery, i cant seem to find how to undo, or remove this partition, any help would be appreciated, also , is there a way to retrieve the files from that partittion?
Well since I don't use an ext partition I can't be sure about this, but I believe that if you go to make the partition again in CWM that you can set the size to 0. As for the data you had before making the partition, it's gone. When you made the partition it had to format your SD card completely clearing it.
reformat sdcard from settimgs and it will go away (so will all data on sdcard)

Not correct at all!
Formating the SDcard will format only the partition in FAT32 format and will nor remove partitions that are not in FAT32 format.
The only solution I can think of is repartition the SDcard from the recpvery and set 0MB in the ext size.
This will delete all your data from the SDcard so be sure you backup it prior to doing the repartitioning.

then why when i made a partion for webtop2sd like 3 gig partion i was able to regain that space by formating the sd card?

no, hes 110% correct, i eneded up having to lose all my data... i went to settings>storage>unmount SD card> format SD card. and the EXT partition was removed
Moonshield thought you were talking about formatting from a Windows PC I think because that would reformat the non ext partition to fat32 leaving the ext partition there. He was correct, he just misunderstood the situation.
na just from the phone itself ive setup a custom webtop 3x then refomatted over it in the phone b4 Note formatting is really hard on.sdcard and they can only be rewritten.so many times. untill your sd card just fails

I think it is unreasonable partition, data partition is not enough
Now there are more than 1GB of system partition the remaining space, I think points to the data partition 800MB, 190MB and now there are cache partition the remaining space, I think points to the data partition 150MB, and now my data partition space remaining less than 500MB How to re- Partition, I extracted the PIT partition files, how changes?
