I have an US unlocked S8 that I am using on Verizon. It is possible to flash an OTA Update from another carrier (ex. Sprint Pie update) and continue using it with Verizon?

I have an unlocked AT&T_ S5 with a T-Mobile SIM card. I want to update to lollipop and my phone won't update automatically through my settings so I suppose I gotta d/l and update but which update do i d/l? AT&T or T-Mobile?
The at&t s5 (SM-G900A) variant has locked bootloaders, meaning you can't flash any other ROM's besides the stock att rom, unlike the rest of the T-Mobile or other s5 variant communities do. At&t hasn't released the lollipop update yet, and they released an OTA update, still KitKat, recently. So head on over to the att section of the forum and you will see there is a safe strap method available, but I haven't personally tried it.
Hello! Just received used verizon s7 edge g935v. I live in Ukraine and I use our local carrier. Phone runs APH1 firmware (september build). I tried to check for OTA updates, but the app returns error "Can not authenticate your device". How can I install OTA or even Nougat beta?
I believe you'll have to use Samfirm to get updates since you're not on Verizon as a customer. Should be fairly easy to do.
I live in Mexico, here we cant receive updates too, but you can use these firmwares

You only need to flash them via odin and you will be running the most current firmware!
I am using 935V with U firmware in india. I am receiving 935U OTA updates.
I am also Ukrainian, and using g935v with Kyivstar. The best way to have updates is not via OTA, but using VZW Software Upgrade Assistant for Samsung - http://support-us.samsung.com/VerizonSoftwareUpdateWin
Guys, if you are using 935V outside of US, please install unlocked firmware, its is bloatware free, fast, smooth and no verizon apps. You will also get Software updates.
I am unsure whether I need to change my firmware or not. I have the galaxy s8 at&t carrier unlocked variant. about 3 months ago I flashed the unlocked firmware on the phone so I could get updates. I'm using Walmart family mobile which is (MVNO) of Tmobile. I want to continue getting updates without bricking my phone. What should I do?

update to CRB1 from https://samsung.firmware.science/
My baseband version is G950U1UES2AQL1
My model number is SM-G950U1
I don't see either as an option on the link. any help?
Hi,
I'm a little confused here. I want to upgrade my firmware on an unlocked S8 I bought SM-G950U and it's currently running G950USQS2BQL1 which is VZW FW but I have att as a provider.
To update my firmware do I flash VZW FW or can I flash ATT FW? If I'm able to flash ATT will updates be pushed OTC from now on? Also is there a way to upgrade without wiping the data? Lastly, can I update straight to Oreo (one again without losing data?) The OTA function never provides any updates.
Thanks.

Flash the US XAA firmware and you will get rid of all the carrier bloat and get updates straight from Samsung servers.
If the S8 is unlocked then you can just pop in the Verizon sim and it'll ask to reboot and then you'll have the ATT FW.

Okay, so I need a Verizon SIM to update the device?

What month security patch are you on? If its the November or later it should switch to an ATT S8 after it asks you to reboot. If its earlier then yea you'll be a verizon(doesn't have to be active) sim to get it to take the OTAs to being you speed, and then it'll change to an ATT S8 after asking for a reboot.
Edit: You don't have to flash a different carrier version, it'll change itself on the newer FWs to match whatever sim is in the phone.
I have a question. I have the Unlocked AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 (didn't realise it was AT&T until I received it and turned it on) and when I go to update the software it says it is up to date but it is not. How do I update my software? I am not rooted or anything, the phone is in its normal state.
Is it an unlocked S8 with AT&T firmware or an unlocked AT&T S8? Also, what carrier are you using?
Either way, you can use Odin to flash the newest firmware. Search Updato.com for the firmware for G950U (AT&T variant if you want bloat) or for the G950U1 if you want actual unlocked firmware with no bloat. However, the newest that they have posted if CRF5 and CG3 just came out the other day.
I asked about carrier because:
If you're running on Tmobile for example, use the tmobile firmware. You'll have bloat but you'll get all the features and you'll be good to go on updates.
If you're using Tmobile and want Unlocked firmware download the TMO coded U1 firmware and again, you'll be good with updates.
@jpcdeux I would think it has AT&T firmware because it came with a few AT&T apps on it. However, it is not locked to at&t so I am able to use it in my country (St. Kitts).
Would I have to root?
No, rooting is not required to flash unlocked firmware
Thanks much @jpcdeux
