Hi, I am thinking to unlock my bootloader and try some roms, I want you to share your experience which you experience using ROM , such as which ROM should I choose and is there any problems like volte, fingerprint scanner,NFC,etc. As there are many roms for pie I am getting confused which to choose. Please suggest a best ROM which is better in battery and performance. Mostly I need battery and performance.thanks in advance.
And last do I need to take any backup of persist and efs, as in nougat many lose they IMEI, so should I take a backup or just go for installation.
No matter what rom you install, if you unlock the bootloader, you should have a copy of efs and persist saved.

That's it.
And to find out what's the best one for your needs: Test them. There's no "best" ROM. If there would be one we wouldn't need the others.
Everybody has his own preferences, reading the related threads has helped me a lot in the past.

Hey there!
i own Note 3 n9005 MJ7 rooted ,stock rom, with TWRP Recovery and my Jellybean 4.3.
i have highly customized my phone to the point its perfect for me, from the apps i need to its design.
my question is, there are some apps id like to buy install like UPSM, and i cant because it wont run on JB.
should i upgrade to LP? will it do something to my apps and designs? my data? my root??
waiting forward for your reply! thanks!!
My advice is stay with what you have. I "upgraded" to the Polish stock rooted Lollipop a couple of weeks ago and have had not end of grief with buggy apps (Titanium Backup & Dropbox) and battery drain. I will probably go back to Kitkat because the SD card permissions policy with Lollipop is making my phone almost unusable. Kitkat 4.4.2 is very good, especially with Xposed.
Get a custom rom
I just ditched the Polish ROM I mentioned above & have flashed Alexandr's Devbase ROM and all the problems I was having with the Polish ROM have melted away. No more annoying SD Card permissions nonsense!
thanks for replying... how would a custom rom help me with my issues?
any other more relevant suggestions maybe?

There's not a major issue with keeping your set up as you like it. LP and/or AOSP/CM ROM's can all be set up how you want, usually quite easily. Even with a clean flash it takes maybe an hour to do.
Not sure what the above issue with TiBu was - works fine for me but I have stopped Restoring Apps DATA and only restore the apps.
Before I change ROMs I make sure...
- full Nandroid of current system is done
- New ROM and SuperSU are on my extSDCard
- TiBu is up to date with backups to extSDCard
- Titanium app is backed up to a zip file on the extSDCard
- Contacts are exported to extSDCard
- Call Logs Backup and Restore is done to extSDCard
- SMS Backup & Restore is done to extSDCard
- Settings are backed up using ROM Settings Backup to extSDCard
- I have copies of my various folders needed over on extSDCard. examples are SPenCommand, Notifications, Ringtones, AutomateIt and Viper4Android
Then I can do whatever I like and Restore things easily to exactly how I like them
As I said, takes about an hour from full wipe (except MicroSD obviously ) to new setup.
I'd wait for 5.1.x... but Lollipop is ok. I just don't think in terms of battery life and smoothness as good as KK yet. 5.1x should improve things.
Custom roms are fine - but many think their custom rom is the best and works great --- yet when you try them, you find bugs. So just be aware that nothing is really flawless - it just depends what you're willing to live with. Be sure to read about each rom and any issues before flashing (and follow instructions carefully).
I will follow Bendigo but adding.
My 2 cents..
Upgrade your mobile to every available option after JB.. taste it..
There is always a way to revert back if you are not happy..
Try/test things, if you came till here to make a new topic

3. No Moto Actions app - no navigation with fingerprint
4. Worst battery life?
5. Cannot downgrade

Most custom roms have safety net patched by default. So no need to worry.

1. Camera quality is definitely much better on custom ROMS. It's not quite stable ATM though.
2. Flashing a custom ROM won't unset your IMEI. Though if you fastboot back to Stock, you might lose it.
3. Almost all custom ROMs have fingerprint sensor navigation.(I've tried RR, It's butter smooth). What you will lose is Moto Display. Ambient Display is there though, but it's quite different from Moto Display.
4. Battery life would be better than Stock. Plus you can customize it to more extent.
5. Not sure what you mean by that. You can flash any custom ROM, any version over your current.(clean install of course).
Hope it clears.

2)If you take full nandroid backup there is no possibility of losing IMEI I flashed Oreo based roms and have returned to stock 2 times.
Currently I am on xsm extended it is most feature rich and smooth ROM I ever tried but in every Oreo based ROM I tried it seems to have volte issue atleast for me.
4) battery life is good on this ROM.
3) Moto actions works fine not sure about 1 key navigation because I don't use it.
5) you can downgrade easily as I mentioned I have gone back to stock 2 times but be sure to take full nandroid backup( I have ticked all the boxes in twrp including recovery to be safe)
Thank you all for answers. I will definitely switch to an oreo custom rom.
But still have one question, regarding this VoLte. This is not the same as the having 4G+ speed, is it? Meaning, from what I know this is only a feature that has to be activated by carrier...
One of the problems, I currently have on stock is that sometimes my siganl is not very good, even if I am in a zone where others have a better signal...
I moved To Custom Rom From Stock
Custom Rom - https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-project-xtended-t3792113
camera Quality - Really Good
Moto Camera Also Works
First Take the stock EFS backup in TWRP and Restore in custom if you lost the IMEI
or there are enough solutions available
In my Custom Rom Moto actions working Great
And Battery life is As good as Stock with Greenify!
You can Downgrade but I suggest you use Flashable Stock zip file

Not the Problem of ROM
I am facing the same issue but I don't know others getting more speed than me or not
but Its definitely not the Problem of Rom
Are there any custom Oreo based ROMs that can be flashed directly over stock Oreo without issues like missing fingerprint functionality?
Thanks.
Every Oreo based ROM can be flashed over stock ROM, however it will end-up with unprecedented errors, and possibilities of soft-brick/hard-brick can not be avoided.
However, if you are looking for a custom ROM closed to stock, try flashing LOS, for which you need the bootloadwe to be unlocked.

Thank you. I tried that one and it needs blobs from Nougat apparently. When flashing LOS 15.1 over stock oreo, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work.

Some ROMs (mostly pie) need Oreo as base but a lot of Oreo ROMs need Nougat because stock Oreo wasn't released that time, that's also the reason why many Oreo custom ROMs are a bit unstable. Ask the developer what base is needed to be on the safe side.
In your case I recommend flashing a twrp stock nougat ROM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/twrp-flashable-stock-builds-t3813351
After that reflash your preferred Oreo ROM.
If you haven't done it yet make a backup of EFS and persist with the latest TWRP 3.2.3.1 to avoid losing your IMEI and/or 4g.
Read the OP of the above thread:
An important note for those who have flashed custom Oreo roms
It is a frequent issue regarding Oreo roms that the device's IMEI is set to 0 in certain conditions. It is possible that these roms (or something used with them) are tampering with the persist partition of the devices. When this occurs, if the EFS is erased, it is not reconstructed correctly.

I tried doing the backup in TWRP. Not sure I got it backed up right. I have the following files in my TWRP backup folder my external SDcard:
- efs1.emmc.win
-efs1.emmc.win.sha2
- efs2.emmc.win
- persist.ext4.win
- persist.ext4.win.sha2
- persist.info
- recovery.log
Does that look like the correct number and type of files to have for backup? Thanks.

Looks good.
hello,
i'm looking for a ROM, that everything works. Everywhere I read, this or that doesn't work.
I'm looking for something that isn't too old and everything works without a problem.
it is not necessary to have android 9 or 10.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Someone?
I can't guarantee that every single thing will work but blackdiamond n8 is a fantastic rom. You can choose which bloatware apps you want and other settings

Then stay on stock rom its the best one that fits your criteria..
Also depends what you exactly need custom rom for.. you need often to sacrifice on somethings to get another ..
At this point.. if you are new to rooting and custom OS scenario, i recommend staying on stock.. because it is now more complex procedure and gives far more problems sometimes then it gives benefit. Imho the benefits of rooting/custom OSes are degrading slowly to the point where its just a useless hassle..
But ofcourse its everyone's choice.. you want to live on the edge by trying new OSes/new things/features you are free to do.. just make sure you know how to do everything safely, and backing up the vital data, like copying your nv data (the first thing after gaining su access), knowing the correct/safe procedure and please DON'T "ACCIDENTALLY" turn oem unlock off..
I personally recommend gaining su access by SYSYEM LESS methods plus magisk in order to avoid dm verity errors and encryption problems.. it also makes it less likely to mess with your nv data..
See alexndr's system less dev base and custom rom.. its based on stock 8.0 too (i think its all stock) and also stable too
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-dqd1-devbase-v4-1-multi-csc-safe-t3591647/
OR if you want to live on the edge.. backup your nv data and try custom roms like black diamonds, hyper rom, deluxe rom and any other which is being actively updated/supported.. try and find your taste on your own and report problems on their threads (every rom has their problems)
But i would either root stock "system lessly" or flash alexndr's custom systemless OS devbase

Hey guys,
Anyone have any info when either unofficial or official twrp is coming for Android 11? I made the mistake of upgrading to 11 from 10 then tried flashing twrp which bricked my phone ( I fixed it, no biggie ). I just really want to flash a custom ROM and I can't find any other custom recovery that will do that and side loading twrp also gives a crashdump error. Unless anyone knows how to downgrade to 10, the the furthest downgrade I've achieved is 11.0.0, once I hit 10.x.x I get either a black screen or crash dump.
It's a lot there, I know. Much appreciated everyone.
Edit: reading more on this forum, I think I found a way to flash a custom ROM on Android 11.. I guess you can side load roms? So I guess I'm going to give that a try. I'm so old school, like back in 2011.
I had the same problem. Im using the Lineage recovery atm an idk why tbh. I think i used it for rooting and for now im only using magisk modules to obtain some featurers.
Sideloading roms is a thing but man i miss those old HTC Hero., HTC Desire times. Last years i was using a P30 pro without root and im so happy to have root again.
Anyway read carefully and have fun. I would love some answers from your experience here.

Most custom roms include all the files needed to flash the entire rom from a batch file. CrDroid for sure, but also Lineage. I'm sure there are more. My issue is not flashing, it's that all important nand backup from TWRP I miss the most. Switching roms is a lot more tedious when you have to re-install everything to revert back to your old setup.
Twrp for 8 and 8 pro may not happen ever, encryption is the problem
TWRP doesn't look promising considering the time that has passed since 8 launch...
