Guide to install Q GSI on Xiaomi Redmi 5

How to install ?
After downloading all required files, extract the Q gsi .7z file and move everything to internal storage
then install TWRP from above link
Now wipe all including vendor
Go ahead and Install My Pixel Experience CAF build
Then go to advance wipe
Wipe system, cache , dalvik cache , data (don't wipe vendor or internal storage)
Then install the extracted GSI
Now mount system and vendor
Install all the provided fixes one by one
Now Reboot
Finally you are ready to enjoy Q DP1 on your Rosy

I am on the CAF based, so only install GSI Q? Will the Orange Fox TWRP works? I used it to get Pie PE
I has error 20 when installing Pie Gapps pico (something 9.0 vs 7.1.2). Then it start to android Q (voila) but show error: Android System: There's an internal problem with your device. Cannot access internal storage. Try to repeat procedures
Finally I made it. Repeat from installing Gapps. Now I have Q. Missing Pixel Expeience interface. Hope to get it soon
The Q beta is smooth. But as Shreejoy Dash mentioned, the camera is not working, even mod camera apks. Network signal bar is weak vs Pie PE. And the Pixel Experience UI is not integrated so I am missing it. Have to use Pixel launcher. No pill home button, only three classic 3 buttons. Dark mode is show but not working. Magisk is maybe not available for Q.
Bluetooth works. Light sensor is not so the automatic brightness is not working.

The reason is its basically not Q at exact its AOSP master its means the base is completely that which you will see in Q but most of the UI elements are same as old
Its better to wait for Q developer preview to come out once its out Erfan will port it out for us

I am enjoying Q on the cheapo Redmi 5. Fingerprint reader is lightning fast. But trusted face option for face unlock could not be found. Especially root is not available. I read on Twitter that John Wu has rooted Q, but all available Magisk v18.2 are failed to root

Other Q alpha show link to enable it in setting/privacy but this GSI on my Rosy doesn't have this link. This rom is also not include the great DIRAC sound which available in Pixel Experience Pie CAF. So I have to use Dolby Digital V6.0 magisk module to boost sound. The DTS magisk modules on xda both lead to bootloop.

Basically in proper words its not even Q its base is Q but most of theming is based on P and they removed some things from this as they may remove it or modify it in future with Q

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

Notice:
No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.
Installation:
Reboot to recovery (Custom TWRP recovery for Redmi 5A - Direct link)
Format /system, /data and /cache
Install LineageOS zip package
Install [optional] the LineageOS su addon to get root (there are obviously other root methods, but this is the recommended one as it survives to OTA updates)
Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)
Important notes:
Current minimal * required * firmware version is MIUI 8.3.29 Global dev, otherwise installation could have issues. Download the latest dev fastboot package directly from Xiaomi and flash it prior to installing LineageOS or, alternatively, download and install one of the latest custom packages containing firmware only (at your own risk).
GApps can only be flashed on clean installs.
Formatting data (all user data is wiped, including internal storage) is a must if MIUI was previously installed and device was encrypted.

If you already use any Oreo build or custom rom based on Nougat, this one should be fine if you just do a clean install
Insane! I remember several months ago where Treble was (said to be) locked and accessible only for certain devices. XDA devs (like yourself) proved them wrong. Then again it makes sense that Treble could reach devices like Xiaomi, which apparently have spare unusable partitions that could be transformed into a vendor partition. It doesn't matter if devices like 5A or 4A are A-only devices, what matters is budget phones like ours won't lose cream of the crop features that Android offers, we won't be stuck with half-baked OEM ROMs that some (or most of the time) disappoints us users with crippled updates or even worse, updates with super worse stability. Kudos to you @33bca !

Yeah, I always test my builds before pushing them to XDA, I never release broken roms
(I've already answered this question above, so check the previous posts first...)
I have tested it everything works fine and smooth.
But there's these bugs.
1.there's a click sound from the speaker coming before every sound
2. its not really a bug as you mentioned in your post about the WiFi Mac address changing. Most of the people won't even notice it but I am having problems, you see the WiFi I use does require Mac address to be connected to the device and that's why I am not able to connect to the WiFi, though I can just tell the owner to add my new Mac address in the system, but I change ROMs very often so I would have to ask them so many times,(I tried to change the Mac address it don't work) it would be really helpful if you could fix it and make it keep the original mac address. Thanks.

I don't have issues with GPS Icon always showing on notif bar/status bar. Maybe it's because I've added Gravity Box (O).. But I think I never had that issues since first boot.

Yes you can, but you have to search for the Oreo version, it's not on Magisk Repo and no old dolby atmos flasher would work. But you can't use it side to side with other Audio mods.

Ok, little review after a only 2 hours of use and comparing it to LOS 15 which is the other ROM I have used extensively. This ROM performs very well, is fast and stable. Ram usage seems to be on par with LOS 15. Ram management is good too, only a few times did some apps take a bit of time to open up but that might have been the fact that I was testing and opening everything I could, so your experience could be better than mine in this area. Biggest issue I think is the fingerprint reader, but that's normal and expected in all Oreo ROMS right now, fpc manufacturer is fast and responsive and Goodix can have a little delay when the screen is locked and off, otherwise it performs just as well. Battery depends on kernel installed, personally I have experienced it to be just as good as LOS 15 so you should too. It offers the convenience of included Gapps and all signs of a Pixel phone in terms of customization and what's to expect with menus, colors, etc.

Unlock bootloader (if NOT yet), flash TWRP, flash ROM(gapps included), Reboot. That's it.
If you want magisk (root access) then you have flash batik recovery instead of TWRP.

It seems like a seriously good ROM but sadly it doesn't connect to internet for account addition any solution??
Solved: Used Aroma gApps and it is working perfectly now with all new Pixel goodies. Well done @degrus!
Fingerprint lock cannot be added as the ROM considers FP as back gesture and goes back in menu.

This module is a blessing indeed. I'm currently using it with Syberia 3 and it's totally changed the experience. Phone feels lot snappier and added features of Pixel phones such as wallpaper and smart recents are bonus. I've changed its Pixel launcher though because launcher included in module doesn't have swipe down for notifications feature. So I can now expand notification easily despite using original Pixel launcher :laugh:

You're right. System settings color is pitch black now after switching to dark theme. Without module, it is of dark shade.

I can do that but bugs are few and largely outnumbered by the functionality these ROMs provide. In @degrus ports, all functions work including FP gestures and FP unlock except ION which considers FP as back gesture only. Now, come to bugs.
* First bug is faced when you install ROM and start it without magisk. TWRP will say that there is no OS installed but force start results in initialization of ROM.
* No sound in video recording with stock or Gcam. Third party cameras capture audio.
* All 10 ROMs hang up a little especially while doing setup at start and when you change certain modules and tinkering with fingerprint security. It can only be resolved through force restart by pressing and holding power button.
* ION has a pixel look and functionality but it is scarred by 2 problems. First it doesn't add account, secondly it doesn't add fingerprint security.
No more bugs at all but you may face normal charging speed initially which will get better within couple of days. Deep sleep is great as there is not a single digit drop in battery overnight.
I will recommend Syberia 3 as I have found it to be more functional at the moment. Pixelizer module is an awesome addition too. Launcher q will force close after installing this module so go in settings and change default launcher to Pixel launher.
Aroma GApps work pretty well if you want a Pixel look for your phone.

No problem but be ready to force restart a few times while setting up your phone and remember when FP gestures stop working, you need a force restart because system UI will get stuck and won't reinstate without a restart.

It's a good rum, but not much. You will not enter in the account in any way-the account why still to put Rom GApps, it is necessary to finish it as that to mind. Try to modify this firmware, we will all wait for the update.

I've another trick to make ION OS add account but it's useless at the moment because this Rom doesn't recognize fingerprint for security so you will still uninstall this Rom even after adding account

First bug: My SIM Card (placed in SIM Slot 2) isn't detected by the OS. It's a French SIM if it matters. Sadly this is gamebreaking for me so I'll have to go back to stock

Can I just dirty flash from twrp?
I'm using MIUI Global stable 12.0.3
bro, i installed this rom today, i have been using it for about 6 hours, and i say, this is apparently perfect, no bugs found so far, very good performance, no crashes, the fingerprint is reading very fast ... just wonderful, congratulations to the creators, I hope they continue with this project always

Mi a3 have a fantastic developer community. Now it's time to leave stock rom for android 11. And this rom seems to be very good

Everything's been pretty good so far. I haven't tested the performance yet - need to install some games to see how that goes.
Problems:
1. Apps still fail to recognize fingerprint, so unlocking the screen is all fingerprint is good for, no app authentication supported.
2. Modded Magisk is still needed - the official Magisk won't work and would send the phone straight to fastboot.
3. Recovery still cannot use PIN for decryption. A workaround is to use a pattern lock screen instead of PIN, but I really don't like pattern.
Hope someone can fix these problems - these have been bugs with all Android 11 OSS-vendor ROMs since day one.
Edit: The whole OSS-vendor scheme is really bad tbh. Apps keep hanging and the UI sometimes can come to be not very responsive.

video call on the volte is not working properly for me. every time i do video on phone calls it get disconnected or it just freezes there very laggy.

There is a version called magisk-R but magisk hide doesn't work with it properly

Wallpaper from a file is not resizing properly.

Best custom rom I ever used. The ui is fluid and fast. Also fingerprint works smoothly

It's Unofficial build but if you want smooth experience and stock android then it is for you. The ui is very fluid and smooth. Also FOD works perfectly

Because in android 11 there is a zoom in and zoom out transition so the wallpapers are little bit cropped for the transition

Im using official build from October 2020 but its on Android 10. Works perfectly for me,no bugs. Are there any bugs on this rom?

I am not planning to go official atm but the main difference between official and unofficial is just OTA
