I'm currently running bootloader version 5 on Android Oreo. There is a rooted rom that I would like to install but it runs blv3. Is it possible for me to downgrade my bootloader using Odin? The G955U bootloader is locked as far as I understand.

I've got a quick question
I'm on the older 5.0 unlocked bootloader (I'm running CM13). If I wanted to Odin over stock PB1, how would I go about doing so without locking my device on the PB1 bootloader?
I'm presuming you are on a Dev Edition. You would need to find a PB1 odin image that specifically says it is safe for dev edition phones, i.e. that does not contain a retail bootloader

You need to update your firmware, without touching the bootloader. it can be found here

That's just the firmware, I need the full tar minus the bootloader
I could remove the bootloader from the stock ROM myself, but I don't know which img file is the bootloader

Here you go guys :good:
My wife has the launch Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 and I rooted it immediately after we got it and have not updated it since release. She is ready to upgrade and I'm trying to determine the best route to accomplish the upgrade to the latest version. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I've used ODIN in the past, but can I just use ODIN and load the latest 6.0.1 firmware?
Yes, backup your data and use odin to upgrade..
And a factory reset is highly recommended after upgrade
Verizon (and AT&T) run their devices with locked bootloaders. With the release of Lollipop came enhanced bootloader security which makes rooting very difficult, if not damn near impossible. So yes, you *can* easily upgrade, but subsequent rooting may well be an issue.

Can I unlock the bootloader and still flash the latest stock ROM with ODIN and keep the unlocked bootloader?
I would recommend you to install smart switch on your pc and update your phone with it. It is much simpler than using odin. You just plug in your phone and smart switch does the rest

Thanks but I'm interested in unlocking the bootloader as well. Am I able to keep the unlocked bootloader and use smart switch / ODIN to upgrade to STOCK 6.0.1 and keep the unlocked bootloader?

Go to the bootloader unlock thread, much to read there and likely answer all of your questions.

I was just wondering if it's possible to unlock the bootloader on 6.0.1.
If you already have root then yes go to kk-mm bootloader unlock for s5 Verizon thread by getex on XDA under s5 Verizon forum
To get root downgrade to lollipop currently no way to root mm then you can bootloader unlock and flash a custom recovery then you can flash a custom rooted kk-mm ROM using the custom recovery you installed.
If you cant bootloader unlock there are ROMs to use that work on a bootloader locked device
Your cid must start with 15

Currently there is no root available for 6.0.1. You can root lollipop. Bootloader unlock is available as long as your CID starts with 15.

No. CID is not the ICCID.

As I understand it if you upgrade firmware with higher bootloader version number you can not down grade to a lower boot loader version. Does not matter if done with Odin or ota.

I am currently asking myself if it is smart to update my phone after the bootloader unlock and before flashing a customer rom. Will I get newer camera (etc.) firmware or will I just loose the bootloader unlock?

Updating after a bootloader unlock will keep the bootloader unlocked, No worries there. Just be sure to follow the exact steps for flashing the custom ROM

You mean not to use OTA updates after bootloader unlock, right? Will OTA relock the bootloader?

No, you can take OTA's after unlocking boot loader, it will not relock automatically.
