HDR Videos - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I have combed around but possibly in wrong areas of the vast internet to try to find a solution or answer, so here I am lol.
My question is if anyone knows of a way or how to get our awesome recorded videos on our 7.0 + V20's
to trigger HDR on our Tvs (if compatible).
The videos supposably are recording in HDR as it shows for a few when after rec start.
I for the life of me cant figure out the file or lib to be able to use. Libs I am kinda blind on coding anyway.
If there is a certain container needed I wonder what?
We have h264 and Hevc but it dont matter it seems.
I guess my main question is if this is even possible with a mobile recorded phone to trigger hdr on the tv?
I am on LS997-7.O
Thank you for taking time to read my wondering.

G1 Video

why on earth does the g1 not capture video?
???? street view.. yes? video capture..no?? wtf
There will be a 3rd party program within a week that can record video. Jailbroken iPhones do it, the G1 is completely open... No worries.
g1 recording video
I think ( *think* ) the reason is that qualcom and broadcom are in a legal dispute over some aspects of H.264 encoding in hardware and until till that is cleared up, no "official" recording apps will be made.

Yeah, I never said official. I just know there are plenty of people out there who want it, so developers will throw a program together in no time.
G1 Video File Formats...?
I have a trip coming up, with lots of airport connections/layovers. I used to convert video files and copy them to microSD cards for playback in my WinMo device. Will I be able to do this on my G1? What, if any, file formats will it support?
From what I can read, it plays videos with a YouTube player; can I somehow use that...?
youtube's format is flv you can try to convert to that
other then that it support whatever formats people develop
players to support
Does the g1 support video output?
Well...does it? It would be very convenient if it did. :-D
the G1 does not have video out at this time.
well duh....i was thinking more along the lines of the hardware. the chipset has to be able to output video using the ext-usb cable thing...
only way is over tcp/ip. But there are no apps for that yet.
it could be like a vnc server or video streaming.
but how would it be convenient?
Every attempt i have had at playing a video ends up in the same scenario....
My video will play for 3-4 second then begin to lag out and then i get a error saying sorry this video cannot be played.
no one has any advice?
Anyone having the same issues?
try encoding you videos using the instructions posted in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441063
works perfect for me.
will this be required for every single video on my g1?

unfortunately yeah for know until there is an update that supports other video formats i know it kinda sux
but the encoder found in that thread is pretty fast depending on the length of the video. also most mobile sites that stream 3gp vids work on the g1
What sucks is handango has a video player and converter for sale for the g1. I was all set to buy it but i tried downloading free trial and it says it is not intended for this device, DENIED!!!!
I have like 7 movies including the dark knight all run on mp4 and run great with video player from the market

you can go to WAREZ SITES ARE NOT ALLOWED and search for "iPod" and filter by video
all those videos that show up should play on the G1 using Cinema or other Video Players. This is NOT legal however and NO ONE SHOULD DO IT and I AM NOT ENDORSING OR RECOMMENDING IT. There is no Divx player that I know of and there may not ever be as playing mp4 and h.264 is extremely simple but Divx/xvid will need software decoding.
The battery in the G1 is MUCH MUCH less than your old WinMo, the battery is physically 1/3 of the size so expect 2 hours of video from disconnecting from the charger. May be more on plane mode and lower screen brightness, BT, Wifi, GPS all off.
The G1 has always had audio and video codecs for playing MP4 vids, put Google did not create a player interface to use it.
The three apps on the market now are interfaces that should have been in the player in the first place.
Mega lame times infinity squared.
This is the app that I use to convert my dvd's,it works like a charm,I recommend mp4/h624 and 320x176,it'll be around 250/300mgs which is nice for a G1 screen...of course it could be 500 or 700mgs and the quiality will be better.

Video quality

I've noticed when playing video that lines/edges get really jagged and look aliased.
My videos are all native resolution (1024x600) and look fine when played with software decoders (like MX Video Player SW mode) but stutter and/or waste battery when using SW.
I was wondering if anyone has found a way to tweak the hardware decoder so that it produces correct output (not aliased or oversharpened or whatever it's doing here). Any ideas? GL tweak? Maybe some config files in /system or something?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I'm rather shocked at the video quality, and really want to love my KF, but coming from iPad land, I'm very disappointed by the jagginess of sharp edges in video playback (most noticeable on sharp edges/curves/text in videos).

[Q] streaming video quality

I notice a considerable difference in quality of video (resolution-wise) when streaming video from hulu plus or watchespn. It seems to be stuck at like 360/480....basically sub 720p. Is there a setting I'm missing or do these apps just use a different video code or something? The reason I ask is because youtube videos look amazing so I know it's not my connection. It would be disappointing to know such a great screen is going to waste....but I would still like to know so please someone tell me what's going on.

S10+ Won't recognize HDR video files while playing them

Hey!
I recently downloaded a few mkv HDR files to the phone, but when playing the files, it didn't activate the HDR feature (washed out colors and bad contrasts) in VLC or the native Samsung video app. How come and how can I watch HDR content? (It does work on YouTube HDR videos...)
Thanks!
How do you know if the HDR is activated or not?
Well, when it's HDR content on YouTube, I can't control brightness and it automatically goes to maximum and you can see the change in the dynamic range. Also, HDR files when not played on HDR screens look washed out with muted bright spots and bright shadows.
If I can or can't control the brightness I think is the main teller.
You probably can't activate HDR. It sounds like a DRM issue. Samsung coded HDR to work with legal content from YouTube and Netflix but not for files downloaded from unnoficial sources.
So I also tried it with Netflix (I have a premium membership so I should get HDR content) and I have the same problem. I even tried downloading an episode in high quality to make sure it's not a wifi issue, but it didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks!

You might want to look on the Netflix site. It's possible Netflix doesn't support HDR on the S10+. I haven't had a Netflix subscription recently. Does your subscription provide HDR content on other devices?
You might also see if there are any settings in the Netflix app that limit the amount of data used or the resolution of content. You might not be streaming content in 4K from Netflix on your S10+ and HDR only applies to 4K content.

H.265 option in the camera app.

Today I noticed I am unable to edit videos in the photos app and I have traced the issue down to the video coding. With the H.265 option when I try to trim a video I get an error message saying "unable to save changes". A file is created with a .mp4.tmp extension that is not playable. When I switch back to H.264 the resulting videos trim fine.
Can anyone else confirm they have the same issue? I'm surprised Google have this option in their camera app for it to be unsupported in their photos app.

Just speculating here, but H.265/HEVC is really not meant to be edited. It's highly compressed and hardware intensive for editing programs to de-encode so you can edit then re-encode. You're better off shooting videos that you know you're going to edit later on in H.264/AVC. I learned this the hard way after recording some footage in HEVC and both Sony Vegas (Sony Vegas straight up didn't support it) and DaVinci Resolve had a very hard time with it despite the hardware in my computer.
Probably not the answer you want to hear but you're asking a lot of your phone's hardware to edit HEVC encoded media. Record in AVC, edit, re-encode in HEVC.

I have to disagree here because I'm able to trim H.265 videos using other apps without issue. I would have just preferred to do it all in one app rather than have multiple apps installed with annoying pop up ads etc...
I've had this issue on Pixel 3 XL also, took a clip and tried to trim using Google Photos app and always got unable to save.
This is pretty stupid if you can't trim when on H.265
