Hi guys
Thinking about giving the Note 2 a chance since it has Wolfson.
Sound means a lot for me, i still have my old Nexus S with Voodoo Sound just because i love the sound out of it.
I would like to know which is for you guys the best combination for audio purposes, meaning ROM and Kernel, also which player u use and how happy u are with the sound, how u describe it, which are the strongest points, what are u missing...just your general opinion about it.
Depends what you like. personally I'm on Perseus kernel, which lets you change gain of volume and freqs but it doesn't color the sound, beats, xperia etc mod are not for me. ROM wise, It doesn't matter.

I have and old Nexus S, with CM11 and DSP Manager, i have direct access to the DAC, which is what Boeffla Sound does for the Note 2 as far as i know.
That would do it for me, pure Wolfson experience, then find the best audio settings and ready to go.
Custom rom, agni kernel (with boeffla sound) + viper sound mod + neutron player
for me the best combination ever
Yeah. You are right.

I Personally would use Jet Audio as has alot of Audio tweaks which are awesome, I have used Different kernels and they do a great job especially with Eargasm turned on, as for VIPER or similar they are great but i found that they muffle the sound and reduce volume so i actually prefer it without and use Jet audio to edit my audio as for ROM well it depends on what you like and what Android version you want maybe try Sungsonic or Sensonic I personally use JellyKat with JetAudio and sounds great for me
I had the original Galaxy S, and also used the voodoo tweaks. The Note II sounds broadly very similar to my ears, it really is very good. No chance of driving my HD650s without an amp or anything, but the quality is great.
I'm still on an old ROM - Omega v18 with Perseus kernel. Easy to tweak the volume levels and access the HW equaliser for adding a notch of bass for the stock earbuds.
I need some help guys.
Hey guys so i am kinda newbie in this things, but i installed a lot of roms till now. By just folowing carefully step by step everything. Never messed up,ocasionally got some phones into a boot loop but managed to revive them. Also bricked a Nexus 4 but revived that as well. Anyway. My question for you guys is....how do i know if my Note 2 (n7100) Has the boeffla or as a matter afact ANY Sound mods installed on it ? All i know is i have this:
Android 4.4.2
Baseband N7100XXUFND3
Kernel version
3.0.31-3569041
[email protected] #1
Fri Dec 12 20:16:40 KST 2014
Build number
KOT49H.N7100XXUFNL1
SE for Android status
Enforcing
SEPF_GT-N7100_4.4.2_0035
Fri Dec 12 20:32:09 2014
And it wasnt rooted. But somehow it had TWRP installed on it. So i went for it and rooted straight away and first i tried installing Viper4Android 4 but it kept giving me error on installing via TWRP so i installed the old one (2.3 i guess) Witch sucks actually cus the sound is very ... distorted and un-natural. I cant seem to find any setting that would sound good and i wanna get the most out of my Note 2 on sound as i am a huge basshead. I`m frustrated cus i bought a pair of Monster DNA In ear,Skullcandy Ink`D,Skullcandy Smokin`buds Skullcandy 50/50 and Skullcandy Holua Wood. And none of them sound that good. (I thought with some good earbuds problem will be solved but NOPE).
So please .... Please guys have some heart and help me out...
I have pretty much tried DSP Manager, Viper Mod, Beats Audio Mod, Sony Clear Audio Mod, Noozxoide and so on. But from my experience I found the best combination is "Dolby Digital Plus" combined with manual "Audio improvement Mod" in default_gain.conf file itself. Without any distortion I can hear crystal clear notes even if they are very low on frequency. I am on Dr. Ketan V14 Rom, Music FX and Default Music Player. Its worth the try. Follow these 2 threads:
Step 1) Install Dolby Digital Plus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/themes-apps/dolby-digital-plus-note-2-t2918922
Step 2) Audio improvement for N7100 : (here you change the DAC values)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...io-improvement-n7100-break-vol-power-t3044738
Settings listed by Julian67 is more than enough, atleast for me. Good Luck.

Hi all,
I bought OnePlus 2 week ago (changed from Honor 6), and since then i using OxygenOS 2.2.1 i really liked the shelf feature, but i can't live without modifications, so i like to unlock bootloader, and flash custom rom and kernel. I searching for LionHeart or Adaptive Governor, and Zen I/O sheduler, i have it one my old LG G2 mini and gave much more battery life. Also it will be great if the rom will have CM Theme Engine.
I ask you good people users of mighty OnePlus 2, can you suggest me something?
i search a lot of threads and i found one kernel with lionheart, but maybe you will suggest me a couple of good rom-kernel combinations.
Thanks a lot
Have a nice day!

Any CM13 based ROM would be your best bet.
IMO, go with Resurrection Remix. They have their official build up and it is one of the best looking ROMs till date.
As for the kernel, I'd recommend Benschhold's custom kernel. It is a great custom kernel providing a lot of options to fine tune your device. Don't expect lots of governors though. OP2 uses octa-core SD 810, which uses the little.BIG architecture. The governors have to be adapted to properly make use of this architecture. That being said, I think ZZmoove or Interactive should be good enough to give you an all-round performance and decent battery life.
Use Kernel Adiutor preinstalled with the custom kernel for best results. (Do not install it, the flashable zip contains Kernel Adiutor)
If you are a music lover, I'd recommend using XTREMEMusic mod or DivineBeats mod.

Thanks, Good to know . I'm familiar with kernel adiutor i use it since my second android device, awesome tool, i see the benschhold's Custom kernel have Lionheart Governor is it good with SD810? i used it one 4 core device, on Honor 6 (kirin 920 big.Little architecture) i used interactive on little and ondemand on big. About music: Yes i'm music lover can you tell me if music mods you are showed me are a lot better than viper4Android with good Convolver (my earphones are Sennheiser CX3.00 i know i should have had better ones)?
By now my combo oneplus is PowerAmp and that maxxaudio, but bass is somewhat strange it is too soft...

It was obvious, I mean your avatar is Audio-Technica's logo!:good:
Yeah, both these mods have Viper4Android bundled in their packages. So you'll get v4a and more with both these mods.
I'm not sure about LionHeart though. I use ZZmoove because ZaneZam has been working furiously on it to make it compatible with SD810.
About the music player, try Neutron Music Player. It's the best if you know how to tune a parametric EQ (not as simple as tuning a graphic EQ i.e. the one which we find in most music players.) and can forgive the retro UI design.

It is unlocked, although previous versions had stock overclocking and wasn't reporting much heat.
I don't think that heat levels change with a change in kernel:laugh:

Ok, so i tested couple of roms, and i came back to OxygenOS 2.2.1 (RR was too packed with things i would never use, CM was fine but i feel i miss the shelf feature of Oxygen), now i using it with Benschhold kernel for Oxy and yes it is slight lag here and there but phone seems to be more fluid in apps, so there goes my next question: can i flash sound mods on Oxygen or it will give me a bootloop or some kind of sound distortion? Thanks in advance (im asking, cuz i don't have time to test it out because of my work :/)
Edit: I read that maxxaudio or OxygenOS itself creates a incompatibility with any audio mods and also viper4android alone not working, i tried installing latest Viper4Android and it can't install driver (it says i haven't installed Busybox and/or don't have root - but obviously i do). Maybe i should look for other way out the situation

There are two ways that you could go:
1. Try the new OOS 3 beta. It contains many improvements and by default, it will include the shelf feature that you love. You will be able to install the sound mods that you like and won't get any distortion. The downside with this method is that there is no custom kernel for OOS 3. You'll have to run on a stock kernel.
2. Continue with OOS 2.2.1 and revert to the stock kernel. Then flash the Uber custom build version of Boeffla Kernel and install BoefflaConfig app to tune the kernel. The downside with this method is that you won't be able to flash any audio mods. You'll have to stick to apps like Noozxoide EIZO-Rewire Pro for audio tuning.
Thanks a lot! I'll go with 1st method. You were providing a lot of help, Thanks for that too
I didn't think i'll fall in love with shelf feature, before was only one rom - CM - but oxy changed that for me
Hello all,
I'm on the fence about moving back to using a custom ROM on my A2017U. The issue I have is that I had trouble on my last ROM using the Hi-Fi DAC, which really bothered me because part of the reason why I bought this phone was to take advantage of the better audio quality as compared to other phones at the time of its release. Presently, what's the easiest way to take advantage of the DAC on an 8.x AOSP ROM?
Thanks!

Hello all,
I'm on the fence about moving back to using a custom ROM on my A2017U.....
I guess you partly answered your question yourself. First of all, the reason to root devices and install custom ROMs have reduced drastically. Rooting and Custom ROMs were the thing when Android was in its initial stages. Now, they have grown it leaps and bounds and there isn't simply anything that a developer could add which is not present in the stock. That being said, people still root it for various reasons and I am okay with it. I used to be root all my phones but have completely stopped it in the last two years. I don't much value in rooting anymore. But that's me.
Now coming to this specific device, which is renowned for its audio capabilities. Why would you buy a phone which comes with stellar sound through both speakers and audio jack and install a custom ROM?!? There are certain things best left to the makers of the phone. I would look to install a custom ROM to enhance performance/features of a device. But in this case, if you are going to install a custom ROM, you are certainly going to rob the device of its audio capabilities. This phone is best left untouched if music/sound is your thing. I wouldn't even root this device, for the fear of breaking something that might deteriorate the sound quality. I own a ZTE Axon 7 Mini. I bought it mainly for its audio capabilities. It is my secondary phone for SIM2 and a media device. After buying, I just updated it to Android 7.1.1, froze the apps that I won't use. I certainly will not even root it, even though I know how to root it.
Hope this helps.

On Nougat AOSP you can get 192k no problem with Neutron. Literally ANY ROM from here uses the AK4490, because they are all patched now. Stock ROMs will use the AK4490 most of the time but not with the speakers (doesn't really matter) or with Dolby (Does matter) and sometimes it will even turn it off on Youtube for some reason.
I think you can't ger hi-fi in custom Oreo. But now you guys also have B01 and B12 which are stock Oreo and work just fine

I'm confused, first you said you can't get it working in custom oreo but now you are saying you can?
As far as I'm aware the CAD driver was to make oreo roms work that didn't have support, aex always has with the b10+b32 bootstack.
I guess it also gives you more control..the cad settings that is.

You can't get hi-fi in Oreo, that's that. Now, the DAC, sure. Those are two different things. Apps can't get direct_pcm output for some reason. But the AK4490 processes stuff just fine, albeit @48KHz.
The CAD driver was to be able to change the DAC's filters, only that. i.e. super-slow and stuff. It may or may not have added support on ROMs.

if my Axon7 guarantie goes over in december, I will thinking to go with AOSP or other custom rom. Sound is the most important for me. Now I have a little time to read again forums... And checking whats happened since than.

(also the stock player is real pain, would be great to use all the media through DAC)
Stock ROM is unable to do this, but can't move yet to custom ROM...

the problem is that you annoy everyone with a dead thread about something that seemingly was never really agreed upon. Honestly I'm about to make a thread explaining the facts if this keeps going (It'll get buried but whatever)
Point is, ALL SOUND GOES THROUGH THE DAC THAT IS SELECTED AT THE TIME (Unless you use Atmos, which will select the 4961 [crappy one])
If you want hifi off of another app, then use Poweramp or Neutron or that UAPP thing (i never tested it). They handle 192k just fine, proven.
Same story on custom ROMs since Nougat. GSIs are a bit more complex.
Poweramp's sound engine absolutely obliterates the stock app's sound.

I'd say darkonah, then singh kernel. It really depends on ur usage.
Darkonah because I don't have slow charge issues and the performance is great. Battery is average but then you can tweak it.
Singh kernel has better battery back up , giving up on performance.
I had charging issues with Phb kernel and other kernels .

Darkonah because I don't have slow charge issues and the performance is great. Battery is average but then you can tweak it.
Singh kernel has better battery back up , giving up on performance.
I had charging issues with Phb kernel and other kernels .

Ya....well I tried phb all versions, darkonah, singh kernel & Dark berry
As you said, phb is mostly good, but has some charging issues.
Dark berry is also decent kernel, but sound output is not satisfactory & gaming lags.
The most liked kernel is darkonah. The sound quality & bass gain is great, but using dt2w while hearing songs makes slight audio tearing. Except that kernel is great.
I'm going with Darkonah:good:

I'm using darkonah v8 right now.

Yup PHB V7 has slow charging issue. it takes 3+ hrs to charge from 10 to 100%. The voice in call recording is also not good.except these issues everything else is fine
On liquid remix PIE+ PHB V7
Use liquid remix if you want customizations..
Else use pixel experience with Darkberry V8
Dt2w works on both
The best you can get out of this device..
Hello all. I'm only concerned about finding a stable, fast and smooth rom (without major bugs) running android 7 or above for the x722, as it is my only device. Currently using Paranoid Android (PA, my very first custom rom installation) found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...aranoid-android-7-3-1-x722-elite-zl0-t3706478 and it is smooth as silk but battery consumption is too high when in standby and the rom has sadly been abandoned. Therefore looking for an alternative.
I'm simply afraid (based on what i read in threads) that the newer android 8 and android 9 roms may have lag after a few weeks and that the android 7 roms may have been discontinued with pending bugs (i read threads here and on zl0 rom threads in the larger pro 3 forum, based on their last post dates and unresolved questions for fellow x722 users) so i would be really really really grateful for any information/knowledge based on your experiences. Mention your Gcam version/name if you use it please, and what phone firmware you are on (mine came with 20s).
Just to sum up: I don't mind whether it is an android 7, 8 or 9 rom, i just want it to be stable, smooth, fast and free of major/crippling bugs (stable for everyday use). I don't want an eui based rom as eui does not have the 'reply within a notification feature' and grouped notifications found in vanilla android 7+. That feature allows me to view messages from multiple senders in whatsapp without opening the app and then reply to any of them which is super convenient! Also eui roms wouldn't support any Gcam as it is Android 6 based.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experiences
Ps: reason i initially came looking for a custom rom was because my vendor 20s rom was awful at ram management, was ugly, lacked the wonderful notification reply features seen in Android 7 and above. And finally started lagging when typing in my keyboard app (Gboard)! PA was a revelation in how smooth & fast this phone could be
WARNING: I have a X727 zl1, not a X722 Zl0, check out if your phone version its compatible
For me, the most stable rom are Oreo's Rom.
I am using right now DotOS 2.4. non major issues.
Magisk 18.1
Dolby completely functional
Good battery
Beautiful UI
Gcam work perfectly
Lot of setting
BT/Wifi/Signal 4G-LTE work fine
Like you, I seek for battery and stability and I've had tried almost any Rom out there, Nougat, Oreo, Pie and MIUI
Nougat fault: Mic and Audio Issues and almost any Rom. Just last Omni was good but had kernel issue, Randomly shutdown few times at day.
Oreo: Very good mostly. Bootleggers its almost perfect, but had Bluetooth issue (cut sound when screen goes off)
But its very good option. Best for me, cDroid, DotOs, Bootleggers. Don't flash custom kernel on DotOS, won't boot and you must to flash Rom over.
Pie: I had a lot issue on Pie. Battery Drain mostly. Some Rom had issue to get Dolby Funtional and some Magisk Module disappeared after reboot. For example in AICP I cant get funtional Dolby and Gcam at same time. If Dolby work, Gcam get infinite focus, after reboot, Gcam work fine but Dolby disappeared... crazy stuff... Also, (I dont know if that was fixed) screen cast is no possible on Pie Roms.
MIUI: its a little messy and need some tweaks to get good working. Had warming issue and Gcam had issue to work. Also is not multilingual (I speak spanish).
Good luck...

Thank you so much for giving such a detailed response! ^_^ I'll look into compatibility with my x722 (zl0) but it is good to know the various issues on the different ROMs, and now i know which oreo ROMs to check compatibility with mine. Thank you again for sharing your experience, it'll help others on zl1 who stumble upon this thread too
It'd be nice if this became a discussion thread where people continue to share their experiences
Sharing info I found on various threads for others reference

I don't have any of those problems on latest AICP 14 build.
Dolby digital+ and some different GCam ports working without problem and battery draining is not bad really (about 6hrs. SOT with 4G and relatively light usage).
Also screen cast (Miracast) is working alright.
AICP Pie rom is the best, I'm using it for a year now.

How is your battery consumption on it? Got any performance lag an year later compared to when it was flashed?
Thanks
AOSIP Pie is the best ROM I used, very fast, I have 7/8 hours of sot without greenify or any mod for battery, fingerprint is very fast too, great performance
