Hello all!
I bought the Samsung S7 phone in unlocked condition from eBay in US. Then I had to move to India for work related purposes and I was able to use the phone using an Indian sim. The phone developed charging issues and it was not charging. So I had to send it to US where Samsung changed the motherboard. Now, I received the phone which is working but it shows invalid sim if I put any Indian sim. It seems Samsung have restored the phone to original settings which is locked to Sprint network. Samsung tells me to contact Sprint. While Sprint says that they need the account details or confirmation from the person who bought the phone from Sprint. The eBay account from which I got the phone does not exist anymore.
I think I need to unlock the phone so that I can use other sim in India. Could anyone suggest what could be done here?
Thanks!

Hello there,
So I got a USED Galaxy S4 from someone on kijiji
The phone is from rogers, and still locked to rogers/chatr
Iv been using the phone for about two weeks with no issues at all.
Last week, just in the middle of the day
I was taking the phone out of my pocket, and I noticed that it says ' unregistered sim'
On the lock screen and status bar
Tried to restart the phone and pull out the battery, nothing happened. Tried a NEW chatr sim card- no luck.
Went to rogers yesterday, tried 4 different sim cards
Didnt work.
I stuck with the "unregistered sim" msg, which not allows me to use the phone.
I tried to look for an answer around the net, and couldnt really find someone who have a similar issue.
Any ideas?
Is the phone might be stolen?
Is therr anything to do about it?
Thank you!
Sounds like you're the victim of insurance fraud. The guy sold the phone and then reported it stolen. He gets paid twice. You should have insisted that the phone got transferred to you at an at&t site, or whoever the carrier is
If the phone is blacklisted, another possibility is that the phone was stolen directly from Rogers or an authorized dealer. Phone will work for a while until the IMEI is blacklisted for that carrier.
Try to unlock the phone and use a different carrier sim card like Telus or Bell.
You could have a defective SIM card slot. As to my knowledge no carrier in Canada currently blacklists IMEI's (I could be wrong though). An easy way to check is just to call Rogers and provide them the IMEI and they can tell you.
I work for a multi-carrier dealer and I know that for Telus if you get their replacement plan (the one where they charge you monthly for) and you report the phone lost/stolen they will blacklist the phone. Rogers has the same replacement plan but whether they blacklist the phone or not I don't know. Try putting a sim card from a different carrier and see if it works. If it does then the phone was most likely blacklisted by Rogers/Chatr/Fido.
They would tell you that the phone is blacklisted. I am going with a faulty sim cradle on this one.

Thank you guys
Thanks a lot guys, very appreciate your fast and helpful comments!
Ill definitely try to unlock the phone and try use it with another carrier!
reason for unregistered sim error
You have samsung galaxy mobile and you have bought it from someone else.
Here is most possible reason is the original owner might have not paid any due amount or some one complaint about the phone from insurance company that it is lost or stolen.
It is locked phone still you can try another sim from same carrier like roger.
Or if you mobile support dual sim then try to insert the sim to another sim slot.
Or you can also try to insert sim to another mobile which is not locked. On unlocked phone if you get the same sim unregistered error. Then contact your sim provider and they will ask for your id proof. And photo. Just submit it and your sim will be active.
I just bought a galaxy s5 off craigslist and verified the imei # on swappa.com and it said it was ready to activate. But it turns out it's still on someone's account. I don't think it's stolen cause the guy at sprint said the last name on the account was the same as the person that sold it to me. It didn't have a SIM card in it so I couldn't tell it was still activated.
So is there anyway I can still unlock it and use it with verizon cause the girl I bought it from keeps acting like she is getting it removed but the account is in her grandmothers name and she is really sick

A Sprint S5 will not work on Verizon, so even if you could unlock it while it's still activated on a Sprint account, it wouldn't do you any good.
Unless the person you bought it from is willing to refund your money, you're stuck with a phone you can't use.

Damn. We'll is there anything I can do to make it able to be activated on any network so I can sell it and hopefully get my money back? Other than just selling for parts witch I might end up having to do anyway
well she deactivated the phone and I got the MSL code from sprint and Verizon says they can activate it if I got it flashed to Verizon's software but now the problem is version dosent flash phones

You would also need the IMEI number to be entered into Verizon's system in order to access their CDMA network, and Verizon does not add non-Verizon phones to their system for that.
If she deactivated the phone, I would just sell it.
I have a similar problem with my galaxy S5 from sprint. I was told from 2 different sprint call center people that with the MSL code (which I already got) the phone can be used with another domestic company and also international.
From that point I started an account with T Mobile, but when I inserted the SIM card into my phone it doesnt recognize it and obiusly have no signal.
Ive tried different methods to get the phone into the GSM frecuency, even accesing to the Hidden Menu and choosing ONLY GSM FREC, tried to add an APN, and now I'm thinking to install a g900t ROM to make it work...
If anyone here can help me out with this or refer me to a thread that could help, I will appreciate that
I have a SM-G903W phone (Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo Canada version). It was a replacement phone I got for free from my dad who is on Rogers. He bought a new phone and used it and gave me the replacement phone. I assumed it was locked to Rogers and called them for the unlock code but they wouldn't give it to me because the replacement phone had never been on their network, and they have a 90 day policy. There's a local tech shop that offered unlocking services, so I had it done there. It worked great in different countries.
I recently moved to the states and the phone worked fine for a week under UltraMobile/T-Mobile. Then somehow one morning I turned on the phone and it was saying "Invalid SIM, enter sim network unlock pin". The phone somehow locked itself again! I called the tech shop I used in Canada and they gave me the unlock pin for my phone. I entered it and it said "Network unlock request unsuccessful". Now, I've read on this site that even with the correct pin this error can sometimes come up, and there's a bunch of dial codes people posted. None of them work for my phone, they were all written for Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S4. I haven't found anyone address this issue on the S5 Neo.
I asked the tech shop what I can do and they said if I bring it in to their store they can hard unlock it for me, but I'm not going back to Canada for a couple of months. I haven't found any local unlock stores here except one which wanted $100 for it, and the store seemed sketchy. I called Rogers to see if I can get an unlock code from them, maybe it'll be different, but they claim my IMEI isn't in their database! I'm not sure how that can be (see next post)
What can I do? I don't have any custom roms installed, although I rooted the phone in an attempt to get it unlocked again. It's running Android 6.0.1
Update: I purchased from Rogers the unlock code, and they gave me the same one the tech shop gave me...there goes $50. On the bright side I've confirmed I have the right unlock code, but the phone still says "Network unlock request unsuccessful". Would flashing a stock rom help?
EDIT: I flashed a stock rom and it didn't help (used MTA-G903WVLU1BPF1-20160602043310), 6.0.1. I don't suppose a 5.x version would do much difference?
Hi I have had similar experience with network unlock and generally I find that the original stock firmware will work so yes I imagine that the 5.x will help
Hi,
Did you ever get a solution to this?
I have had similar situation except I updated mine with smart switch and now cant get a network.
Ive been searching likead amd camt find a answer just the same reset networl ect and they aint working.
Amyone reply if you know as I dont want to start a new thread when ones already up.
Thanks.
Hi
I've bought a second hand S7 Edge ATT phone on a kind of craigslist in Denmark (i live in Denmark).
When i came back at my place, i discover that the phone is an AT&T phone and that my simcard doesnt work in it. The simcard is seen as there is the linked application of it and the phone asked me the pin code but nothing to do.
Then i search and i went on the AT&T website to unlock the phone. I got an error message:
---
""Looks like you haven't paid off your device yet. Follow these steps to pay off your installment plan. Then, wait 48 hours before you submit a new request."
---
I spent then 1h chatting with ATT and without any info about the original owner, ATT cannot help me... so basically i'm stuck.
The only info I've is the IMEI number, that's it.
So here are my questions:
1 - Is there a way to unlock an ATT phone that is not "unloackable" by ATT because of this pay off issue?
2 - If yes, is there a way to do it free?
3 - Is installing a firmware G935U instead of the G935A would solve the issue?
The phone is quite old now so i dont want to invert money in it.
Thank you for your help
I bought a Google Pixel 4 from Mint mobile on April 13th and got it April 17th. When I first received the phone and put the sim card in, it gave me a prompt saying that the device was sim locked to Verizon. After messaging Mint telling them that they sent me a sim locked phone and that I needed a prepaid shipping label to send it back and get a replacement, they have yet to send me one, and to this day I still haven't received one.
I contacted Verizon and they told me that on their end the phone isn't sim locked, and that they cant do anything else because I need access to the business account it was tied to before, which clearly I don't have access to.
I contacted Google tech support as a last resort to see if they could help me, but they didn't really do anything other than send me an email to show to Verizon, but I just got off the phone with Verizon and they told me they cant do anything with that.
I tried going onto Mint Mobiles website to request a refund, but the phone isnt even selectable on the options for the refund.
I thought maybe they put the wrong OS on the phone after resetting it, and maybe that I could flash it and put another one on their, but the phones boot loader is locked and I can't toggle OEM unlocking in the settings.
What should I do?
It is a PAIN in USA to sim unlock from major carriers , if you are not original owner with an active plan.
(ATT, Verison, others)
I would b1tch like you mean it to Verison .
Straight up tell them , if the phone was paid off by original owner and and is not stollen,
why will they not unlock it?
( do they want you to get an account, and then wait another 5 months to unlock ???)
I bough Canadian phones before without previous owner sim unlocking them.
Just called the company, and they unlock within a few minutes ( always polite too
