The voicemail feature in the native dialer does not allow for speaker phone to be enabled to listen to voicemail. The audio from the voicemail feature only gets piped through the ear speaker. Is this the way it's supposed to be or am I missing where to enable the speaker phone option?

When I tap that, which is a little speaker icon, it just mutes the audio, it doesn't toggle to speaker phone.

Are you sure? Because for me the icon does looks like the speaker is muted because of the slash through it, but it does plays through my speakerphone when I toggle it.

Yes I am on 9.0.11, that's really weird because it's been working fine since I first got my device. Wish I could help but now I'm not sure what the deal is with your phone. Hope someone else can chime in and help you out.

Now this is really weird! I just received a voicemail about 30 mins ago. I went to check it and now when I tap that little speaker icon a line appears through it and it plays over the speaker phone. Without the line through it it plays through the ear speaker. I would have thought the icon graphics would have been reversed from that. But regardless there was a time when tapping the icon would mute the playback. I dunno.

Yeah no clue either why the icons are reversed. Might have something to do with me using the system-wide dark theme, but I'm glad you got it working. :good:
Yeah, it is goofy, when you select the slash/kind of mute, it plays through the speaker at the bottom. When it is regular, it plays through the earpiece. Once on the slash/mute looking setting, adjust the volume, it will then play loudly through the speaker. Another oddity of the phone.

Followed your instructions and "nope" no sound........
Its normal behaviour: turn your volume up all the way, trigger any sound. Then if you have good ears you can hear static at very low volume for about a second. Then the powermanagement cuts power to the amplifier and the phone goes completely silent again.
PS: Same behavior on my desktop PC running Fedora 12. You only hear the static from the soundcard if it suddenly stops ;-)
This is perfectly normal, when the hissing stops, thats the speaker turning off to save power, most other things with speakers do the same thing, it's not worth returning your beautiful Nexus One just for that...
EDIT: sorry, just noticed Volker1's post,
Yeah, I have the same thing, but as others said, it's normal behaviour.
Maybe the amplifier for the speaker is a bit noisier on this phone than some others, hence you can hear it before it gets switched off (might also explain the awful quality of the speaker phone experience)?
Anyone has noticed sound leaking?? it happen when i hear music with headset then suddenly there is incoming sms and then the sound is leaking out for a while till the sms notification sound ends then the music come normal state again, is that fixable?? thanks

I noticed that when I was still using a stock ROM, im currently using the stock tweaked which is found on the development section, its like a static or white noise on or before a sound is played via the headphone jack. Its pretty annoying, my galaxy note also had the same problem.

leaking? i think that is a feature of the phone to notify you of any incoming sms/phonecalls/emails/etc..
this is NOT a bug, and of course if you put your phone into silent mode this will not happen
Didnt he mean the static sound that we can some times hear via the headset out when say tapping something on the screen or even by just browsing the gallery coz thats how I understood it lol!

hmm well you try it yourself if this not only happen in my tab your's will also happen so basically when you put the headset in all sound supposed to be in your headset... but in my case the notification sound will not play on headset but instead leaking out with the sound of music that i played (in my scenario i put headset to listen music )
Hey guys, I've a little problem with my tablet right now: it acts like a headphone was connected through the jack. I mean, I have no sound (except the notifications ones) coming through the speaker, and when I - reboot and- raise the volume up, a notification pops up and tell me not to keep listening the sound too loud for a long time (don't know exactly what is written, but it's the message that pops when you're using headphones).
So, I don't know if it is a hardware or a software problem, the speaker seems to function because I got a sound when I receive a notification.
I have just upgraded to Kitkat, and it doesn't change anything.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers.

in the notification it will ask "Ok" or "Cancel" right? Click Ok. you can increase sound to maximum.
It is just a warning message set by the stock Acoustic Warning app.
Yup. Once I run Skype, any normal calls and texts I get, the sound is played from top speaker. In short the top and bottom speakers get swapped. I was wondering why my ringtones are suddenly sounding very tiny. I an on KitKat 20B ROM. Unrooted.
The only solution is to restart the phone.
Anyone noticed this?

Mine are hit and miss honestly. I have a lot of custom ringtones, and some are loud some aren't. I do have a set that I modified for the LG G3 that had the loudness boosted. I may have try them. I don't know if its a speaker issue, or what.

I think the placement of the speaker may have something to do with it. I mean. sometimes my email notification goes off, and its loud. and then if I'm holding the phone, and the same notification goes off, its softer, so I wonder if I'm blocking the speaker ya know?

Pretty sure sounds are reduced when you're detected to be holding the phone
I've noticed it really depends on the ringtone or sound itself. I was missing the ones i was using on my M8, so I ended up downloading them and adding them to the 10. Azalea is tone of the loudest notification sounds I've found.

yeah, here's where I downloaded them. Azalea is much louder than any of the stock HTC 10 notification sounds.

I have a slightly different question about ringtones and notifications. I've been able to add my own ringtone, but can't figure how to add a new notification sound. I thought it would be as easy as dropping a sound file in the notification folder like my M8, but nothing is showing up in settings. Is there a particular file it needs to be, or am I putting it into the wrong folder? Or am I just doing something completely wrong?

I also had this issue. I found that after placing the notifications in the Notification folder and then restarting the phone, everything showed correctly. For some reason the phone had to be restarted before they would show in the Notification selector screen

does somebody here noticed this? when the phone is ringing this ONLY sound in the lower speaker very muffled and low, the upper speaker not sounds at all
when i hear music this sounds very good in both speakers ( i´m usin poweramp)
it seems like a software/ error
Happening on mine also.
Transmissum est uti Tapatalk ab Xperia Z-IV tabula meo
Also happening on mine. Ringtones and notifications sound great when I'm selecting them, but when I actually get a call, email or text they sound muffled. Its very annoying. Any ideas?
I wrote to HTC chat ( customer support), I did everything that they told me, and nothing ( i cleared the wipe cache and them I did a factory reset). They said that the query was upscale to the developers and they should include a fix in the next software update . I´m sure about a software bug. Does somebody try to root and use Viper4A?
It's getting weirder: like you guys already said before, the ringtone only fires from the bottom speaker which sounds just muffled and overall bad. Though after around 9 seconds it seems like the top speaker kicks in and suddenly I have a clear sound, just like how the original file is supposed to sound. Is that are a hardware defect or just a really annoying software bug?
Edit: Just noticed this is the Verizon thread, while mine is a European model of Three UK/AT on 1.53.
Anyone figure this out? Once in awhile I've had it where it did play out of both speakers while receiving a phone call. Really don't like how low the ringtones and notifications sound out of just the bottom speaker.
