visual voicemail with dual SIMs? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I posted this on the OnePlus community forums, however no one ever responds to me when I ask anything there.
So I have two at&t SIM cards, and I just put the second one in my 6t's second SIM slot. Any time I get a voicemail on either line, it shows up in the at&t visual voicemail app, however it doesn't tell me which SIM the voicemail is associated with.
Is there either someway to change the settings on the app to distinguish between the two SIMs, or some third party visual voicemail app that properly supports dual SIM phones, and at&t?

AT&T Visual Voicemail doesn't support dual Sim, Ive got one line ported to google voice, about to do the second.

Using an AT&T pre-paid SIM and Google Voice

I've got a AT&T flavor Nexus S that I purchased a pre-paid SIM for. I've got unlimited voice, text and paid extra for a data plan since it's a smartphone.
When I try to make an outgoing call using Google Voice it states, "Cannot complete your call, please try again." No matter how many times I try it will not work. If I dial with the number attached to the pre-paid SIM (which none of my contacts knows) it will work.
Any ideas?
User error, while receiving calls is not a problem, in order to make outgoing calls using Google Voice you need to set it up online to forward to the prepaid #.

Testing multiple carriers on your Nexus, Need advice.

I would like to hear your advice about testing multiple carriers on my nexus phone. Currently i'm on T-mobile prepaid, but i would like to begin testing other carriers to see which one does better in my area.
Just a few questions i have:
- Do you keep your same telephone number though all the carriers (is this even possible) or do you have different numbers for each carrier you are testing?
- Is this as simple as swapping between sims?
- Do i need to reset my APN everytime i swap between sims?

I am planning to test multiple carriers as well. For the phone # I recommend you get Google Voice. With Voice you can use any # and have the calls/texts forward to G Voice. The only issue is MMS which do not work. I have 3 phones at present and they all ring when a call comes in using Google Voice. This is far simpler than trying to port a single phone # through multiple carriers.
I am presently testing the AT&T version of StraightTalk. Will get a T-Mo ST Sim next month and try it out. Then will try a regular TMo plan. The process is the same as the original set-up. Add the Sim, start the service and change the APN (have to change each time as this is how the data gets routed).

Ah very nice informative post thank you...!
2 questions for ya..
- Is there a difference between T-Mo prepaid service vs their regular plan as far as coverage/performance..?
- How would one know what information to change too in the APN. Is it pre-programmed on the SIM card and just load default settings on the phone?
You're choices are basically Tmo or ATT, yeah some of the MVNOs have lesser coverage but there isn't much "testing" to do IMO.
- As for phone number, port to google voice and you never have to worry about your number again.
- All you have to do is swap sims.
- You don't have to reset APNs but you will have to either switch APNs or add a new APN, the data is a google search away.
- There is "supposedly" a small difference between tmo pre and post paid, I find it hard to believe but the only way to test (going out all over the country to map out coverage) I'm certainly not willing to do and I wouldn't trust the maps to be accurate.
- Do a search the info is available.

if I have AT&T and VZW SIM cards in the phone, will they ring at the same time?

Right now, the AT&T SIM is in my Note5 and the Verizon SIM is in my LG G4.
both numbers are on my Google Voice, so if someone calls my Google Voice #, both phones ring almost simultaneously.
I'm just wondering what happens if I put both SIM cards in the Axon 7 and someone calls my Google Voice number? Never had a dual-SIM phone that allowed both AT&T and Verizon SIM cards. (usually they are just GSM only dual-SIM phones)
Thanks!
Your google number is separate so it'll ring once from your verizon and att sims (uses data only so one ring). As for your other sims if someone call each number they will ring never had anyone call me each line at the same time so not sure what happens there (theoretically you could have 3 calls at once lol google number, att number, and verizon number) tho i'm guess the phone will limit it.

Straight Talk restricting outgoing calls because of 2g migration

I tried to make an outgoing call this morning, only to get a notice that my outgoing calls have been restricted and that my 2g phone will no longer work. It re-directs me to their call center, where my only options seem to be either order a replacement phone or activate the replacement phone.
Here's the catch. I'm using an iPhone 6 with a 2-year old SIM card that has worked flawlessly the whole time (actually, it still works fine, it's Straight Talk's system blocking my outgoing calls). When I question them on this, they blame my phone and say I need to order a new SIM, and the tech was unable to answer my question regarding the ability to call 911 (I can't even check voicemail, but I don't want to test 911).
I can still receive calls and my cellular data works just fine (posting this on LTE), but my outbound calls are being re-directed.
Has anyone run into this issue? Has anyone found a way to get rid of the block? I can't get anywhere with their "support". I should not have to buy a new SIM card for something that shouldn't affect my service.
Straight Talk should just send you a new sim without charging for the sim.
They sent me a replacement sim when I misplaced my phone without any problems. I found the phone and didn't need the sim. They didn't charge me for the sim.
The problem is likely on their end with the provisioning of the sim.
Did they try to send you a new sim ?
I finally was able to get around scripted CS and talk to somebody knowledgeable. They're sending me a new SIM.
Apparently, I got caught by the net because I used this SIM in an old flip phone several months ago.
My biggest concern with the whole thing is the ability to call 911, and why they don't have an escape route so that you can still place calls without ordering or activating a replacement phone. My first few contacts left me with a replacement phone as my only option.
Notice to all providers. In the future, please make these notifications so that they don't block outgoing calls. Play a notice, give a number to call, then allow the call through.
Luckily, I have FaceTime Audio to continue making calls in the meantime (new SIM arrives Tuesday).

Galaxy S8 Unlocked + ATT Prepaid.. Conditional forwarding not working? Google Voice e

I just switched our phones from post paid to prepaid with ATT.. it seem, i'm pretty sure at least, that conditional forwarding for things like google voice do not work on ATT Prepaid (this all worked fine on att post paid and the same equipment a day ago).
If you go to the phone settings.. more settings.. call forwarding you get a network or sim card error and all the entries are blank and do not save (where you can enter a different phone number for things like what to do if busy or on another call).
Is there a known workaround by chance?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Prepaid plans generally don't allow conditional call forwarding, at&t certainly never has on their prepaid plans, and probably never will.
The only prepaid plans I know of that do allow it are from Cricket & MintSIM. There may be a few others but those two I've actually used and I can confirm they allow conditional call forwarding.
I've got a MintSIM card in my S8 now using Google Voice, conditional call forwarding works fine.

In a different forum someone wrote that they are able to use conditional forwarding, but i think on an unlocked phone.. mine was unlocked..
At least it was originally "unlocked".. not an ATT unlocked, but unlocked in general.. recently i firmware flashed it with the ATT bloatware to enable certain things to work like HD voice and wifi calling..
So at this point its ATT firmware flashed.. so i guess this is why its not working then from other reports. I'm not sure that i can undo the firmware.. i mean i think its possible but dont know the method.
I dont have access to an unlocked phone to try the sim swap trick i read about either.

I can pretty much guarantee you that it wasn't an at&t prepaid sim if they had conditional call forwarding working.
It has nothing to do with the phone or firmware, it's that at&t blocks conditional call forwarding on their prepaid plans. There isn't really any hack or workaround to make it work.

Yeah i'm not sure why they are succeeding..
Probably unrelated but my sim is still the post paid att sim card.

The one user with success is using a TracFone AT&T SIM card they couldn't forward with the MMI code until swapping it from a AT&T Prepaid to a GSM unlocked phone - then back into the AT&T Prepaid phone and forwarding held

Tracfone is an MVNO, so that user is using a Tracfone SIM card on a Tracfone plan. Tracfone allows conditional call forwarding, that's why it works for them.
This has been a point of frustration for AT&T Prepaid users for as long as I can remember them having Prepaid cell service.
And now, AT&T allows MVNO's like Tracfone and h2O, that operate on the AT&T network to offer conditional call forwarding, but AT&T themselves still won't allow it on their own prepaid plans.

Makes sense but someone with an ATT branded Note 8 also had success.. unless their sim card is something different

I don't think you're getting the point. The device itself is irrelevant. The SIM card is the crucial element here.
With an AT&T SIM card on an AT&T Prepaid plan it is not possible to have conditional call forwarding. Anyone that tells you they had success is not on an AT&T Prepaid plan.

Ah ok i see your point.. so in theory if i had one of those alternative MVNO sim cards, it might work in the S8 then enable the feature?

Yes it would work on one of those MVNOs I mentioned earlier. I'm doing that now.

So i would have to drop the att prepaid alltogether and find one of these that "works on att" per say, not just use one of their sim cards as that wont work if using att prepaid services right?
I dont know too much about those other offerings, guessing there could be other drawbacks to switching.
My main goal was to be able to do google voice for voicemail transcribing.. if att prepaid voicemail had this built in then I would have been set.

Right. I haven't used AT&T for a while, but I'm pretty sure they had visual voicemail with text transcription. Is that not available on their prepaid plans?

I didnt see it.. not as an addon anyway.
Looks like they do offer Visual Voicemail on their prepaid plans. Maybe that will work for you.

Yea but unfortunately not voice to text or email transcription. Just a way to avoid dialing the number to listen
I had originally posted a question over at the ATT help site here.
Seems this ATT rep claims that conditional forwarding is not disabled for att prepaid.. (very skeptical that they know what they are talking about).. however i did see in the one other thread someone mentioned they have it working with an "Att Go phone" on att Prepaid.. maybe the go phones are different in some way.
At any rate the rep wants to do a chat at some point to figure out why its not working, but we will see if this gets resolved.. given what I now know, I highly doubt it.

Well they are working off a script so they just find the closest thing to the question in the script and run on the assumption that it's the right answer. lol
