ASUS ZENFONE 3 MAX not charging - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a asus zenfone 3 Max 5.5'' ZC553KL that stopped charging.
It gives no signal when connected to a transformer or to the PC, the PC can't find the device either.
My first thought was that the USB board was damaged since I've replaced the screen before this happened.
I've checked all connections and ordered a new USB board for testing. It didn't worked with the new board.
In the programmer options i can't change the USB configuration to charging, when i try it simply keeps in MTP mode.
When i change to the bootloader the computer recognizes the bootloader interface. I think this confirms that's not an hardware problem but software.
I've read that this is a common issue after the OTG fan is plugged, it could have something with that even though i din't plugged any OTG fan.
I've already reseted the device and updated the OS [ current android version = 8.1.0 ]
Any ideas what to try?
Thanks!

[Q] Advice about state of iPAQ 614c

Hey everyone, I recently got hold of a HP iPAQ 614c from a friend, and was playing with it. I've had it about a week and so far it's been a lot of fun to play with. Downloaded and used the WM6.1 Manila and then WM6.5 Manila (v0.5) from this forum, and all was working super.
Now a day or so ago, I noticed my phone just totally stopped recognising the USB cable connected to it, and I need some advice as to what to do. It's not detecting the USB either in A/C charge mode, or when connected to my laptop, the laptop isn't detecting it as a device at all.
There is nothing wrong with either battery (a normal and a high capacity, both were working and charging fine before).
I've tried replacing, downgrading and re-upgrading the ROMs, and nothing seems to be working. I've also tried twiddling the cable connection to see if I can get it to respond (even temporarily, which would suggest a lose or damaged connection).
Luckily with the high capacity battery, I got about a week to fix it (if it's fixable) so long as I keep the wi-fi disabled.
Now what I want to know from you guys is if you think it's one of the following scenarios:
1. The USB interface on the phone is damaged (either from being knocked or dropped).
2. The cable has become damaged.
3. I've fudged something inside by using the unofficial ROMs.
And what, if anything I can do about it.
Much appreciated any help.
are you using the original charger?
HP614c recognizes the original charger and informs you about charging in other cases you need to turn on USB charging in system
if you have no response from USB it may be a damaged usb interface eg. the connector or charging IC or USB interface IC.
did you try on other PC/USB port or/and other cable
also check in device manager of PC for any suspicious looking USB devices

4.3 Charging Issue - Media Device

Last night I updated to 4.3 via the very useful thread here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848
I was in situation "A" with a completely stock Nexus 4 and the side load went without a hitch. I was able to charge my phone from my wall charger last night with no issue. Today at work I realized that my phone was not charging from my PC via USB cable like it usually does. If I disconnected and reconnected I would see "Charging" on the Battery page for a split second then it would change to "Not Charging" and the phone would notify me that I was connected as a media device.
Trying to troubleshoot the problem I had rebooted the phone and the PC, no luck. I tried turning off the check box that set the phone as a media device and when I unplugged and replugged in my phone it started charging again. To test my theory I turned the "media device" option back on and charging stopped right away. Has anyone else seen this?
Steps to duplicate:
1) Connect phone to PC via USB with Connect as "Media device (MTP)" checked (Settings -> Storage -> Menu -> USB computer connection)
2) See that the phone is not charging.
3) Uncheck "Media device (MTP)"
4) Unplug and replug in USB cable
5) See that the phone is now charging.
6) Re-check "Media device (MTP)"
7) See that phone immediately stops charging.
Not sure if this matters but the PC is running Windows XP. Up until today I have had no issues charging and nothing has changed configuration wise on the PC that I know of.
Thanks,
Eric
A friend of mine just had the problem. It seems that, since 4.3, you can no longer charge if MTP or PTP is activated AND your peripheral is not recognized by the system. I mean, since it is work computers, I assume you do not have privileges to install drivers for your phone. And so, it won't charge until you deactivate the MTP fonction. At home, where your phone is properly recognized and drivers are installed, no problem.
Another solution is to find a "charge only" usb cable, like the ones delivered with external batteries for example. We tried it, and it works also even without deactivate MTP or PTP.
Same Issue. On two different devices out of the box.

I own two Samsung devices and they both have the same issue. I have tried different power cords, different USB 2.0/3.0 slots on a Linux laptop, Windows laptop, Mac Mini and Rasperry Pi, turned on developer mode to no avail. The few things I do see that both devices when plugged into an outlet they say Charging (AC). Once unplugged and plugged into a USB port the nav title bar hides and comes back with the battery icon with a red X and stating discharging. I have yet to find a fix for either.

Not a fix. Just a possiable answer.

Android 4.4.4 CM 11S USB Charging Issue Resolved
Hi,
I had the same problem with my OPO. My previous device was JellyBean and I could charge even when it was connected as Mass Storage.
My new device used to connect as MTP by default and hence would not charge. I charge it from my work PC which has blocked media transfer through USB and that was the real problem. When I uncheck MTP and connect my device, it would charge. Since my Home PC has no such settings there is no problem when I connect it to that.

USB Type-c port : bugged or broken ?

Hello guys, here is the bug I experience
First of all i'm sure the cable isnt guilty as I tried two different cables, with one of them being new, getting the same result/bug
Whenever I plug something to my usb type-c port, it can ONLY and ONLY charge !
When i plug the phone to a PC, it won't recognize a phone is plugged ! It charges, but I don't have the window where u can choose between MTP, Charging,...
Of course I have enabled : USB Debugging, and switched from "Charge" to "MTP" in dev options
Even the USB otg doesn't work (with "OTG stockage" enabled ofc)
From times to times I could connect the pc to the OP5, but by plugging / unplugging the cable like 20 times... And now it's worse as it doesnt work at all !
It used to work perfectly in the past , is it possible the system can bug to the point this bug appears ? Is the type-c port broken ?
I have the same problem, the USB port can only do slow charging. It doesn't connect to PC/Mac and doesn't dash charge either. Taking it to service center as i'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue with the USB port.
Try downloading OnePlus USB drivers on pc you connected device to. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298966498

MTP should work without those.
No it's not an issue with the drivers. The phone used to get detected fine and would do dash charge properly earlier, it suddenly stopped working.
I visited the service center, they confirmed my suspicion, it was an issue with the USB port module. A hardware issue where some of the pins on the USB module stopped working for reason, and as a result phone wouldn't receive connection from the cable. They replaced the module for me and the phone works properly again.

Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Whenever I try to hook up the Zenfone 5 with my PC, I get the "unknown device" error, and Device Manager shows me the error on the topic: "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
I've tried just about anything, and nothing seems to solve it... Shut down/restart the PC, try a different USB port, remove power supply, etc...
Ah yeah, phone has access to bootloader and TWRP, but even in these modes I get this error when trying to connect via USB. Already tried different cables and different computers.

that's sad... here I could test both my USB ports and cables with 2 other phones: they're all working nicely. So now I don't know if my problem is the USB connector or the whole south board. I did try changing it with another ZF5 I have around here, and it worked (and suddenly, that other ZF5 isn't being recognized anymore)...

Yoga Book YB1-91L USB port problem

Hello everybody. Asking for help and suggestions. Maybe LENOVO representative take notice. Have secondhand yoga book. Resolved almost all problems but micro USB port. First of all, charging device died out. Find 30-watt charger with QC 3.0 and charge now working perfectly. Next tried to connect mouse, usb hub and usb dongle. Each time got DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED message. Got error in device list.
But......tried to connect external HDD with noname HDD box and it connected. Connection may work to copy, install files or disk may disconnect randomly.
Tried system restore, tried to change drivers ( intel drivers for chipset not avaliable now) with no luck. Think problem is with low port current, but even small mouse and dongle make error and non-SSD HDD work 9 times out of 10. Have anybody experience problems with connecting devices to micro USB port?
Tried 3 different OTG cables and OTG micro USB to USB dongles. No luck.
Maybe the port is corrupted or desoldered

I did change it with the warranty I had. I had the same problem and did not want to fix by myself as the warranty was still active
