Hello,
I've noticed something strange.
My internet connection is 15/3, my laptop on a Speedtest server clocks at 11-13 which is okay.
However, when I attempt to test the speed on the same server using my S8, it's around 0.5 - 3, which is very low.
I've had this problem for months but I usually just attributed it to me being far away from the router, however that doesn't seem to be the case.
I did a restart, and after restarting it it went to 10 then instantly dropped to 3 and then 2.27 at the end.
I've tried tweaking the router settings, using all different WiFi types, bgn,ac, you name it, I've tried it.
Can someone help with this, thanks?

Hello all,
I've had my Nexus 10 since Christmas and it's never given me any problems. Within the last 3 or 4 days, however, I noticed my videos weren't loading like normal, so I've been running speedtests and it is completely inconsistent. My phone and computer will consistently pull 20+ Mbps, but the N10 is crazy. Sometimes it's 3Mbps, sometimes it's 10Mbps, sometimes it's 16Mbps. Every time I check, it's different. I've used multiple programs and websites to read the speeds, and they're all reporting the same. I can stand in another room, or right next to the router, same story. The wifi never fully drops, it just slows way down. I don't have a case on it. I've turned on and off the Wi-Fi optimization in settings. I've turned on and off location settings. Nothing helps! Please let me know if you have any ideas. I am hoping I won't have to return the darn thing, it seems crazy.
As per my internet, it's Comcast, Surfboard modem with a Linksys E1000 (Wireless-N, 2.4GHz) using WPA. Restarting that did not help. I am open to the idea of changing some settings on the router however, if that might be a solution. Also, signal strength on the N10 says "Excellent" and link speed says 130Mbps.
Thanks for your help!

I too have this problem so now Im going to attempt to root the device
Glad to hear someone else is having similar problems.
Possible good news: I changed my protection from WPA(mixed) to WPA2, and so far things seem to be much more consistent. This may just be a fluke, but it's looking much better so far.
If you have a router with 2.4GHz band only, try changing it to 2.4GHz under WiFi settings on the Nexus.
I had some disconnection problems due to that and somewhat inconsistent speeds, I've seen it fix a lot of peoples problems, I've yet to have a transfer problem so far with limiting WiFi to the speed of my router.
Other issues some see is using N wide or dual channel (40Mhz). As the N10 only supports 20 Mhz in 2.4GHz it seems to get confused.
Most other devices either support 40GHz or handle switching more gracefully.
In short force router to 20 Mhz/single channel, may report more consistent behaviour.
On 5Ghz it does not matter as the N10 supports 40Mhz/Dual channel.
Odd, I know.
My experience is that sometimes with wifi issues, wiping the cache (if custom recovery is available) would resolve the issues for some time, but it might be due to an beta ROM.
P.S> on 5GHz wifi I am able to hit 122Mb/s
it has WIFI, mine hardly works
After a few hours of testing, I am now consistently getting 20mbps + as I should be. My router is set to 20MHz only, but I think the main issue was the security settings. It just wasn't dealing with WPA(mixed) well.
First time poster here. I've searched all the threads and couldn't find anything on my specific issue.
Had the Nexus 10 for about a week and noticed streaming YouTube and movies was EXTREMELY slow. Slower than my Galaxy Nexus on the same WiFi network (my network speed is about 18-20 Mbps). I finally did a speed test and noticed that my 10 was getting awful results...sometimes 3-6 Mbps while sometimes it'd get up to 10-13. My Galaxy Nexus gets between 14-18 Mbps consistently. For my 10, every speed test fluctuates between 3 to 13 and it's just so inconsistent.
Now, I don't have any connectivity issues. It never drops the signal and I'm always connected, it just goes super slow to the point of YouTube videos not loading.
I'm not a wizz, but I use ATT uverse and use the router they give you. I'm not sure if it's a router issue or a Nexus issue.
I've restarted the nexus, turned off the WiFi optimization and turned the WiFi off and on. I had a ton of issues with my nexus 7 (main reason I switched to 10) and I really don't want to ship the device back to Google. Any suggestions??

For starters when you toggle WiFi optimization you need to reboot for the setting to completely turn on/off.
What ROM / Kernel combo are you using? If that is stock then it is likely the router.
ISP routers are usually cheap, they don't handle multiple device traffic very well. One thing you can do is change the stock/auto settings they come with as they are less than desirable. Lower channels/and or Auto Channel (in both 2.4 and 5 GHz), QoS, software static IP, and even Google DNS can all interfere with your router. First go into build.prop and look for the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 lines and delete them, reboot. Try that. If issues persist go into router firmware and change all the Auto settings to a preset. Even something as simple as your phone logged on at the same time could interfere if the channel is saturated. Take everything off the WiFi except for the n10 and try that. Getting a 3rd party router with dual band / 802.11n support is ideal.
The least likely issue is that it could be a hardware issue with your n10.
Hi,
I have realized that my wifi connection drops down from more than 20 to only 1 Mbps with my lg g2. It happens with 2 routers and seems that if I reconnect the phone then I go back to more than 20 (and short later in goes down again). Any idea what can be?
No suggestions on this one? I tried the location services changes with no success. I would say it is some app causing issues, but no idea which one could be...

got exactly the same problem
switching wifi off an on solves the problem for 2 minutes or so. then it drops to 1mbps again. tried different routers.
I figured out that it only concerns internet traffic. LAN traffic remains at full speed.
WHO can help please? :cyclops:
hmmm. wonder if this is the same problem a lot nexus 5 owners have including me.. there's quite a big thread on it in n5 QA section
there's no fix but workaround solutions include running in 2g mode or turning off data when on WiFi and even making a script to do so automatically when entering WiFi areas.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/slow-wifi-n5-t2514501
thank you for that interesting link.
unfortunately the solution turning mobile data off didn't worked for me.
I also tried static IP instead of DHCP - no success.
one strange thing, as already mentioned: LAN traffic to my computer works perfectly with max speed. (copying files e.g.)
so, wifi works in principle. It's about internet traffic only.
but which kind of software/hardware is able to distinguish between internet- and local traffic?
Hey all,
I've had my galaxy s5 since launch and just a couple days ago started to have a weird wifi issue. Whenever my phone wifi is turned on and connected, my home wifi significantly slows down. The moment I turn my phone wifi off, the home wifi speeds up again. This is not a router issue as the same problem occurs at my girlfriend's house and my friends house. Any ideas?
I have the very same issue and after talking to Apple Care because it seemed to be a router issue (Airport Extreme), I was told it was the antenna in the phone that was faulty. This never happened on my S4 or S3. I found an app that I made a shortcut to quickly turn the wifi off, then on, thus speeding things up. (WiFi Connection Fixer *ROOT* by ZEXTR.) I sure wish this issue would resolve itself on its own. Ever find anything?
This does not happen with my S5 and home router. So presumably it's some random conflict with your router settings.
It's impossible to more than speculate on a cause or solution though since you didn't provide any details. The best you can hope for is that someone has already experienced your situation, found a solution and reads this thread.
If you described your router configuration in depth, we'd have a lot more to go on. If possible, an ethereal session or router log at least would go a long way towards elucidating the situation.
.
Fix? Maybe! (Nope...Issue back)
I THINK I might have found the fix for this weird issue. Go to Settings > WiFi > "Smart network switch" and UNcheck it. My speeds have stayed consistently high for the last two hours, where normally after only 5 minutes, they would drop from 40-50 Mbps down to 10-13 Mbps. Here's hoping!
Sorry...didn't fix it.
Another Fix That is Sticking
I turned data OFF on my SGS5 by using a widget called "Data Enabler" and WiFi speeds have been flying (45-50 Mpbs.) for over 3 hours. (Previously, WiFi speeds dropped to 5-7 Mpbs after 10-15 minutes. Obviously, when I leave home or work where WiFi is not available, I will enable data again. Hope this helps others.
I did a search and found nothing to help. All over the internet ive searched. no help.
Yesterday all of the sudden my power went out..nothing got fried or anything..prior to power outage i had perfect performance from my note 3....after...the Wifi is slow ONLY on my home router. Work and parents house perfect..my house it severely lags with anything downloading oriented including opening a web page which could take up 10 seconds to load. My laptop is running via wifi on same router...seems to be working good..i did a speed test..25MBPS with 8MBPS upload...which is exactly what i should be getting.
i tried everything basic..restarted phone..restarted router and modem..hard reset router..left everything off for hours. forced phone to forget network. i changed bandwidths on router..channels. network names. upgraded firmware. everything i could think of.
i could be at home and pickup neighbors xfinity with 1 bar and it can zoom like i was sitting next to router. my house., extreme delay.
does anyone have an idea what to do?? please and thank you

Same issue here. Tried resetting modem, no go. Speed test is fine but everything takes forever.
