Both active app in split screen - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Is it possible to port the feature of having both apps in split screen active to oneplus 5? It is working in MIUI powered phones and some said that its also working in SG Notes.
To explain it: Users can download apps that can duplicate other apps. Like parallel space, using that can duplicate apps so we can have two same apps running at the same time. I'm using it for a game however, in oneplus roms doing it makes one app of the split screen inactive or stuck.

Not really able to multitask due to constant low memory situation?

Hi,
I don't think this is limited to my device so I am asking here. Are you guys really able to multitask on your devices? On mine I start the web browser then I switch over a couple of apps and when I try to go bqck to the browser it gets launched all over again. Of course it remembers all the pages I have opened but they get reloaded. The same happens to other apps all the time. That drives me crazy. I installed an app called System Panel that I used to have on my HTC Desire and it shows that there are a lot of background services running and out of 700 megs of RAM it's only 50-80 free memory. Among those running apss there are services of widgets that I have never used like AP widget, world clocks, Yahoo finance, samsung hubs and etc. That's insane that such stuff occupies memory while apps that I really use gets killed so eagerly. Is there any way to improve on this behavior? My HTC desire seems to handle more apps at once than my GalTab :O

I'm with you about the browser. So irritating that pages are reloaded when you leave the browser. I put starburst ROM on mine so I'm not sure if that took care of the RAM issues, but the reloading browser is pure fail. (BTW- I use dolphin for pad and it's the same).
I guess it's more a matter of the OS killing background apps to retain memory than the app behavior.
In Android an app(it's called an Activity) cannot forbid the operating system from killing it when the OS decides to. An app can only gets notified about the event of being killed to persist its state to be able to restore it later. And the browser does that.
What the problem really is here is that because of a lot of bloatware(including background services of Samsung hubs, Yahoo widget, Associated Press widget) running in background the OS is not having enough memory to keep the user apps runinng. So soon afther an app is put into background it gets killed to make space in memory for other apps.
And as far as I know killing thresholds for available memory are set to around 56 MB. And this happens to be around how much free memory is available for most of the time. So it makes any app put in background to be killed almost immediately. This makes the OS that is supposed to have an edge over iOS in terms of multitasking to be in fact able to run a single app at a time
And ifor example my HTC desire that runs vanilla Android 2.3.4 (Oxygen) seems to run with close to 200 MBs (out of 576MB built in according to the specs) of free RAM during normal operation. I do not use any task killers or any similiar tools. This makes the OS to easily handle multiple apps in background.
So, the question becomes: "how do we [permanently] kill all those background bloatware processes?"
freeze them with titanium backup
U guys realize it only reloads browser pages if u back out or hit the home button right? X the tabs out and ur browser will not do this
The only app that ever shows me the low memory msg is logmein ignition

This is not really what we are talking about here. Try it this way. Open any page in a browser. GMail for instance. Log in and leave it this way. Now open the task switcher and go to some other app (e.g. Tapatalk). Navigate through some other apps and then select the task switcher and try to go back to your browser. You will notice that it was shut down silently and now it's started again. All previously open pages will be reloaded at this point. On my HTC Desire using the same scenario I end up with a web browser screen restored with the already open page not being reloaded. It even remembers what part of the page I scrolled down to.

So the honeycomb memory management system is doing its job and freeing up memory when the browser is in the background idle. You are complaining?

Well, it does not really. I just rebooted my device and noticed that now I can switch between tasks without having the one that I've just put into background immediatelly killed. Also after the reboot there is around 300 MB of free RAM compared to 50 MB thad I had after a few days of use. Also the entire device feels way more snappy now. Doesn't it look like a memory leak?
I have not seen this problem - can have many things running and still have close to 100mb memory free. Doesn't seem to have got worse from a few weeks usage, either. But I have noticed some running processes that I have never even opened, which is strange. Solution is definitely to root and then freeze the things you don't need, but personally I am not going to do this as my memory seems fine. You could try taking off certain widgets and not running certain programs after reboot to see if one thing in particular causes a big memory drain. Social Hubs? I have never even opened this as it caused a mess on my Samsung phone.

Why is there a limit for the number of applications running in the Background?

The Nexus 4 has plenty of Ram available so it should be great for multitasking and for the most part it is.
However I can't seem to be able to run more then 5 or 6 applications in the background although there is about 1GB of Ram left!
Is there any way to fix this ?
There should also be an option to keep selected apps (like Whatsapp, the Dialer, Gmail...) in ram permanently, It's just annoying having to wait one or two seconds for them to open.
In "Developer options" there is a setting called "Background process limit", its options are:
Standard limit
No background processes
At most 1 process
At most 2 processes
At most 3 processes
At most 4 processes
Based off this it seems like without some heavier tampering you're kind of stuck. I've never run into the problem you describe; my apps always open the instant I tap on them from the multitask UI. I struggle to imagine what 4 or more apps you could possibly need to run at the same time on a phone/tablet though...

How are you determining which apps are running in the background?
The multitask button? I wouldn't use that add any indication as to which apps are actually running.

[Q] Certain app questions?

I'm looking for an app that helps kinda show off the S-pen for the Note 3 whether it's games or features. I also am looking for an app that helps stop all services or apps that aren't necessary to run the device when I turn the screen off. Something just to save battery ya know?

All the apps that feature the S Pen come preinstalled, I haven't found any games that will show it off or really benefit from its use however that doesn't mean there isn't one. There are similar non-Samsung note taking apps that have handwriting mode which allows you to use the S Pen but nothing really special other than MindBoard.
As for battery Greenify is a great app management app. With root and Xposed framework you can greenify system apps. Basically this is a hibernating app that allows you to hibernate apps at command or automatically with various settings based on your needs. The free version doesn't require root or Xposed, and the paid version is only a dollar or two. I would recommend this over a task manager/killer because it works around Android's behavior of restarting apps that get force closed.

Why MiUi 8?[New features]

Hi folks!
I am making this thread for people who haven't yet upgraded from MiUi 7 to MiUi 8. For all those, here are 10 good reasons why you should upgrade from MiUi 7 to MiUi 8!
1. The Calculator:
In MIUI 8, the new MIUI calculater app is now having the currency converter feature. We can even check 3 currencies at once with the MIUI Calculator App. Hence there's no need any 3rd party app for this feature. Not only that, but there's been additions like complex algebraic symbols for efficient and quick calculations.
2. Image Editor:
With the update of MIUI 8, now we can have more features when editing our image in Gallery. There are more settings and effects to play with, hence we can save up spaces from downloading 3rd party image editor.
3. Video Editor:
Did you know that we can finally edit our video in MIUI 8 without install any 3rd party apps? We can now easily trim our video and add some simple effects on it to make it more interesting!
4. Wallpaper Carousel:
We have Wallpaper Carousel that provides us daily wallpaper and Theme App Store which have thousands of wallpaper to be chosen. With MIUI 8, we don't even need to download any wallpaper from external sources.
5. Cleaner:
In MIUI 8 security app, one of its main features is Cleaner App. It will not just only clear cache, deep clean will help us remove the duplicate photos, big files and unused apps to clear up our storage even further. So why do we need a 3rd party app if we already have this feature in MIUI 8?
6. WiFi Transfer (Mobile to PC):
Did you know that MIUI allows us to transfer file from phone to PC via FTP? Frankly, this feature already existed since MIUI 5 and its still rocking! We don't need to download any 3rd party app to transfer our files wirelessly in MIUI.
7. Improved Mi - Drop:
In MIUI 8, we have a file-transferring feature called Mi Drop. This is used to transfer any files between two phones which have these features. This doesn't require any Internet Access to do it, just using Hotspot and transfer the file wirelessly. So we don't need any 3rd party app for this as well.
8. Anti-Virus:
Since MIUI 5, there is a virus scanner in Security App and downloading a 3rd party anti-virus app in MIUI ROM is not necessary at all. Although some might have said the MIUI virus scanner is not the most powerful, the native app is always the best as it "understands" the host (MIUI ROM) the most.
9. Data Usage:
Want to monitor your Data Plan usage? In MIUI 8, we have this feature under Security App. It is called Data Usage Stat. With this feature, we don't need to install any other apps to help us monitor our data usage. Isn't that awesome?
10. Battery Saver Auto Powered:
Want your phone to automatically power on the battery saver when you're sleeping? MIUI 8 can do that! It can be found under Security App > Battery > Battery Saver. This awesome feature was already implemented since previous MIUI versions and has some improvements!
11. Messaging Timer:
Do you know that MIUI Messaging has a feature that we can set a timer for our message to be sent? This feature is pretty useful for someone forgetful like me, and I bet it will be useful for you all as well!
12: Blocklist:
Is there's someone who always disturbs you and you want to ignore his call or SMS? Blocklist comes in handy when you set his number in the list. You will not receive any of his calls or SMS's anymore, and you can manage settings for the blocked numbers. This feature can be easily found in Security App.
13: Second Space:
Having second space is like having two mobiles in one mobile. This feature partitions your phone into two, so two people can use it randomly, protecting each others privacy as well!
14: Dual Apps:
Ever used Parallel Space? Imagine a MiUi built-in Parallel Space. Yep! MiUi 8 features dual apps, so you can have two instagrams or WhatsApps for different accounts!
15. Continuous Screenshot:
Ever wanted to take a screenshot of the whole page, but needed to take seperate screenshot for each column? Well, problem solved!
MiUi 8 introduced a new feature- continuous screenshot .
Here's how to take a continuous screenshot:
Just take a normal screenshot and when a pop-up displays at the upper right corner, tap it and tap on 'scroll' to take a continuous screenshot!
So, that's all for now folks! I'll keep updating the thread with new posts soon. Stay tuned!
Hit Thanks if I've Helped!

OnePlus 6T question

Can you split the screen and run two applications simultaneously like you can on the Note series by Galaxy Samsung?
In particular, I'd like to run both the Uber drivers app and the Lyft drivers app and be able to look at both of them at the same time.
(instead of always having one running in the background)
And while I have your attention are there any other large-screen phones other than the Galaxies that can do this?
(in stock configuration)
Or for that matter a small tablet that can have a phone number assigned to it/Capable of making and receiving phone calls. (and able to split the screen and run both apps at once)
Archer said:
I know you can split screen on the 6T by going to the running apps list and clicking the 3 dots above an app. You get a menu with "Split screen" in there. It puts that at the top and then you select a different running app at the bottom.

Thank you, Mr. Archer.
Do you think it can run two GPS programs at the same time?

I don't see why not. I know some apps won't run split screen - that's the only caveat.
Incidentally....
