problem with g5+ on oreo 8.1 - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Alright so i flashed the official stock rom 8.1 oreo to my g5+ while i was rooted, i had twrp installed (3.1.3 if I'm not mistaken), and the bootloader unlocked (obviously).
The problem is that the phone won't work correctly when connected to any wifi, the connection is slow af and most of the times i can't even connect to whatsapp or telegram.
The phone is unlocked (no carrier) and i was on 7.1 stock before. I used this to flash the 8.1 rom, and then tried to fix the wifi flashing the wlan custom zip (meant for 7.1 after rooting I believe).
What can I do to fix this?

How did you get to 7.1? There's no 7.1 for the Moto G5+ only 7.0.
And you did that while your were rooted? That shouldn't work at all. You have to be full stock with stock recovery to update your device. Better check the threads and inform yourself.

Wifi dropping and slow network speed on wifi is a bug i guess... Doesn't affect all the devices... I had this problem too when i updated... There is a pretty simple work around... Not sure if it'll work for you but it did work for me... So you need to turn your wifi off and then turn on the data saver from drop down or settings and then turn wifi on again and let it connect to a network and after a minute or so turn off the data saver... It worked for me...

GPS and compass issues (not yet fixed in B188)

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this. I'm having some issues with the gps and the compass
When using any gps app, for example, HERE Maps, its always jumping around, and app always saying to adjust compass.
My phone is ALE-L21, and Build number is ALE-L21C75B146. EMUI: 3.1, Android: 5.0.1
Bootloader is still locked. Its still have the stock rom, but its a modified rom from a service provider.
I dont know if this is a software bug or hardware issue.
When trying to update, it says theres no updates.
If I unlock the bootloader and install the latest official huawei rom, will it fix it? And which one I should install?
Thanks!
Already unlocked bootloader and flashed stock rom. I have now the B188. Havent tested, if it still has the GPS issues

Hello,
Where download this ROM version?
I didnt downloaded, it was an update from B170
First flashed the "Flash ROM B052.rar" in fastboot but it was saying balong, and couldnt find any updates, so then I flashed "ALE-L21V100R001C432B046b" to activate the dual SIM, blocked by the service provider, then I think I flashed this for some reason "Huawei_P8_Lite_ALE-L21_V100R001C432B052-Europe-Dual-SIM.rar" .
And yes, dual SIM works in B188.
I have p8 lite (ALE-L21)
and have the same problem with GPS and compass, specialty in compass turn some right about the real in all apps
and I am need GPS too mush
in anyone know how to solve it please say
Tested, and still has problems in GPS and compass even with the latest B188 update.
Im really disappointed with this device, I already have atleast 5 or more dead pixels with just a month of use only. :crying:
No more huawei's for me, I dont trust them anymore and wouldnt recommend to anyone.
Stay away.

Moto G4 Plus's Model changed to G4,lost one imei and finger print.

I have switched to a new device and no longer use this phone but i see many others facing this issue as well so I am keeping this thread open, please do not message me regarding the solution to this issue cause all i did to get out of this mess was getting a new phone.
Hello !
Due to some error while flashing stock rom on Moto G4 Plus XT-1643 my Moto G4 Plus has changed into Moto G4 but the model no shown in the "About Phone" section is correct.
I have lost one Imei no. fingerprint option is no where sim or mobile network doesn't work other than that the phone is fully functional(WiFi,Camers,Audio etc)
There are multiple threads on the same issue but no solution is available I would be highly grateful if anyone could find out any solution to this issue.
P.S : I have tried flashing multiple ROMs available on the forum specific to XT-1643 i.e Indian Version
Also I flashed the OTA file for the Android 7.0 Soak Test due to which I cannot relock the bootloader.
I am currently on Stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 139-63 Rooted&TWRP installed
The phone is basically an iPod without fingerprint sensor
I had the same issue. I relocked the bootloader and sent to service center. They flashed the original firmware. Stock roms roaming here are not exactly stock roms.
this happened to my phone (1640 - brazilian moto g 4 plus), and I tried every single rom out there for moto g 4 plus, and it is only identified as Moto G 4, without fingerprint or any modem activity.
i still cannot recover previous bootloader, because it don't downgrade bootloader version. nothing worked for me so far.
i'll be watching this thread to see if anyone comes with any alternative.

Umm, so according to you too it's a software issue and not a hardware one right ?
The first thing that I do when I boot in TWRP, I do a full backup of all the phone's partitions, and save a copy on my PC, so I can restore the phone in cases like this.
Guys, maybe you need to read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617276
if you flashed android 7.0 and then downgraded to android 6.0.1 then expect some bugs because your bootloader gets updated you have to do clean flash but you cannot actually completely downgrade to android 6.0.1 after you updated to 7.0 soak test bootloader still remains updated and your phone will brick when you click update after you receive 7.0 official OTA i warned you this happened to lot of moto x users do some research before you do anything if the phone is your primary device

I think so. May be if we flash a wrong modem, the right one never flashes correctly. I don't know how do they managed to flash it correctly.
For me its a software issue... looks like it messed with the bootloader, and since you cannot rollback to an older bootloader, the phone works like an iPod Touch. haha
I hope that when Motorola releases the final 7.0 version for 1640, I'll be able to flash again the right bootloader and that will fix the phone.

I did a full flash of an older 6.0.1 ROM, and it still doesn't work. Since the only thing that I couldn't flash is the bootloader, and the phone identify itself as Moto G 4 (and not Moto G 4 Plus) my guess is that the problem is with the bootloader.
I guess i'll have to wait for the official 7.0 for my specific phone (1640) to fully replace this broken bootloader.
Yeah, that's why I didn't upgrade to the N yet, I was sure that the bootloader will be different.
I also have saved the partitions with Partitions Backup & Restore app, after rooting.
Did you try the ElementalX kernel?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836
I was also having same issue, got my bootloader locked and went to service center and they replaced the motherboard for free????
Lucky you
Has anyone found a solution to get the plus (fingerprint) back to the phone?
Nope funny thing no one knows anything ??
I am waiting for the Android 7.0 official update so that I can relock my bootloader and send it for service.
That's a bummer but there might be some solution. The phone version number shouldn't be that hard to find if you'd knew witch file that flashes it.
How do you do these backups for they don't look at all as twrp backups so I guess twrp is second best to something. But what?
What is the different with 7.0 coming up? Can't you just relock a backup?

I have the same issue, I have seen people with XT1643 having athene_f in build fingerprint but I have only athene. Which one is correct, could this be the issue?
Managed to solve the issue at least to get the signal. This is what I have done
- Restore my first TWRP backup.
- Booted directly into bootloader and NOT system, flashed modem for the build.
- Rebooted and I am getting the signal!!!

Radio is working after TWRP backup + modem flash. Still fingerprint is not working and it is pointing out as athene not as athene_f
(bootloader) ro.build.fingerprint[0]: motorola/athene/athene:6.0.1/MPJ24

I have spent 1 whole week to get the signal working, at least be glad that you can now use your phone and press thanks if I helped. Regarding athene in build fingerprint you can easily change that in build.prop but it won't help. I think fingerprint service is disabled because ROM thinks that our phone is G4 and not G4 plus. I have tried few things to enable it but not getting it to work, will update if any of my experiment is successful.

I found this trick early and I am using it now. I thought you cracked the last part (fingerprint sensor) which my post was about. I think that the issue is with gpt bin as I tried different bootloader versions along with all possible combinations. Gud to see someone else is working on the same. Will update if found any.
find the correct firmware for the device and flash it else it would lead to such errors

Unlock + Custom Recovery + Root + Update :)

Hello,
I have a ZTE Axon 7. I have not received the OTA update to Android 7.1. Just now, I am on 6.0.1 (ZTE A2017GV1.0.0B08). My device has only the stock features (I have no unlocked anything).
So, my question is, which is the ordered and simplest steps to have a phone with a stock ROM (updated to 7.1) and with Bootloader, TWRP, and root?
I would like to maintain the stock ROM in order to use Google Daydream and Maintain an acceptable quality on Camera and Audio. I heard that LOS have some issues on these aspects.
Thanks,
youngz89
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-install-twrp-unlock-bl-flash-t3517379
follow this guide until B
then, reflash stock recovery, upgrade your phone with ota.
after that, reenter edl mode, and flash twrp 3.1
look that the first twrp you flash is only to unlock, its signed and dont work. so dont keep it.
I use aosp extended, works really good, no manual camera unless you flash stock, sound works good

Or you can just use my toolkit which does it all for you https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/tool-axon7toolkit-t3573108
Bkroes, using your tool, you suggest to update at nougat and, after the update, unlock the bootloader and root the device?
I have not received the OTA update, so I am thinking to update with FOTA.

Download the 7.1.1 zip and put it in the sd, then go to updates
Yes, but can I unlock the bootloader and root the device after the update? Or I have to unlock the bootloader before the update?
Where you able to do it?

How to check if i am in "N modem"?

RR gives me problem with the fingerprint. So i'd Like to know that
Settings > about > baseband .
It should be M8952_70030
And if i remember correctly 70029 was for soak test..
EDIT: for soak it was 70025.20.03.52R
For official N, it should be newer than it.

If you go to Settings > About Phone, does your baseband end in .52R, .60R or .62R (e.g. M8952_70030.25.03.62R ). If so, you're on a Nougat modem. Also, if you were on any Nougat stock ROM before flashing RR, you'll have the correct modem.
If your baseband doesn't have the endings as mentioned above, you'll either have to try flashing a TWRP Nougat baseband file (e.g. from https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/fxz-flashable-stock-npjs25-93-14-4-t3623010 ) or revert back to Nougat stock, then flash TWRP and RR. For the latest stock fastboot ROM we have: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
Alternatively, you could try just enrolling one fingerprint and see how you get on.
I have .52R, but anyways when I unlock the phone with fingerprint the touch doesn't work. How can I solve?

So you've likely got the Nougat soak test from October 2016 running on your device, the modem should play nice though. You may wish to update to the latest Nougat stock ROM however.
What build of RR are you running and what GApps, and on what device? Any custom kernels/modifications? Does the fingerprint sensor still fail to work if you wipe your fingerprints and set them up again?
Now the problemi seems to have fixed on its own. The problemi has happened for like a week. If it wil represent, I'll tell you

Downgrade from Oreo stock(8.1) to Nougat(7.0)

Hello,
1.Can we downgrade to 7.0 from 8.1? If yes,how?
2.Problems which may arise during downgrade?
3.If no why?
I'am fedup with the performance of 8.1,bootloops sometimes, network problems, and majorly battery backup and low volume issue.

Did you installed the twrp version of an Oreo rom or which rom do you have. Did you have an unlocked bootloader? How did you update to oreo?
Upgraded to 8.1 (stock)through adb,i have bootloader unlocked and also have twrp.(no custom rom installed)

You cannot downgrade the bootloader if you flash the stock nougat rom by fastboot, otherwise it's hard bricked.
But I don't know if stock nougat rom will work with stock oreo bootloader @echo92, you know it maybe?

If stock Oreo is downgraded to Nougat, the bootloader may work with either firmware, I don't know for certain. However, OTA updates must be avoided if there's been a downgrade to Nougat or earlier (unless you're using the Oreo OTA); attempts to use old OTA updates on downgraded firmware is a great way to hard brick (and currently without recourse - we do not currently have a working Oreo blankflash).
However, if you downgrade your firmware, I am concerned you may lose SIM access/IMEI, given your baseband is on .77R (Oreo), whereas downgrading to Nougat would result in a baseband of .62.02R due to changes between the 2 basebands. You may have to consult this thread if you do lose your SIM/IMEI https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/guide-moto-g4-plus-imei0-issue-t3859068
@anhoxhrs Have you considered replacing your battery, or at least ruled out battery issues like a failing battery? I'm just wondering if the bootloops and poor battery life may be due to the battery. Also, when you updated to Oreo, did you clean flash or factory reset your device?
The SOT has reduced by 30%,and most of the battery is consumed by mobile standby(weird). Its a clean flash. being my primary phone, 8.1 is troublesome.Yeah the battery was pretty good before the update.Chargeing time also has increased.for eg- 95 to 100 about 1/2 hr to 45 mins.
