Just got the Galaxy Tab A (2016). What's currently considered to be the best choice for this device; I'm looking for more performance and less Samsung bloat.
Pie version of followmsi. For my usage perfect so far and nice to have Android 9

Hi
I am considering buying a new phone - Note4 (I have Note2 right now) and I went to a shop with most modern phones to compare. I was focusing mainly on Samsung's phones and I noticed there are huge differences between ROMs even when the android version is the same.
Galaxy Alpha's ROM has a different theme and in general the phone works definitely faster than Note 4 or Galaxy S4 or Galaxy S5. I noticed f.e. that finally there is no delay when switching between the phone tab and the contact tab (previously looked like separate apps on Samsung's ROMs). It was not the case in the Note4! Alpha has android 4.4.4 ROM and so the Galaxy S4/Note4 which is slower than the Alpha. Galaxy S5 UI is faster than Note4's but it has 4.4.2 preinstalled. I tried two different Note4 phones and the same results. I don't even mention the design because Note4's touchwiz looks almost the same as the one delivered for Note2 with the latest update. Alpha's ROM looks much better.
Do you know what may be a reason?
Maybe thay platformed their products to some lines: Note, S ...
With a ton of Spem features they would not want rebuild bases on latest UI like Alpha. I think they based on Note series to dev more features, tweak more to match demand, business plan or something else...
My wife is using Note 2 and I can say that you will enjoy Note 4 which has many things upgraded from Note 2. A big step.
We will have another big step by next Lollipop update
Yes that's correct that there are improvements comparing the original Note2's ROM version to Note4. The problem is that I am completely not satisfied with the Note2. It's so slow it is generally not usable without flashing with the cyanogenmod or something else. I want to buy a device I can use without rooting it at the first day and loosing a warranty. I was quite happy with the speed of the Alpha but completely not happy with what I saw in the Note 4. The problem is that it seems that the Alpha is the only Samsung's device right now which works without any jitters but it has so weak battery it won't last a full day when using more intensively. Maybe as I work in the IT I am less patient with the hardware but I could imagine the original Note4 hardware with a stock ROM would be probably much better.
Today s6 and note 5 get the game launcher available on galaxy store you have to download game launcher and then you will download game tools within game launcher
Will we expect more features coming to s6 like always on display and new grace ux with Android N update?
We have to wait for the answer of the question

Don't get your hopes up about Always on display feature, S6 will never ever get it officially.
But with the Grace UX, there's a great chance that it will come to S6 and S6 Edge before the Android N's official release.
Also, Samsung's S Health app has just recently been updated with new look, as Albe95 says it's "Note 7 Grace UX S Health" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68122799&postcount=1673) so as you can see, this is just only the beginning and we can be sure that the New Grace UI will be on S6 and S6 Edge before you know it.
Cheers!!
Yeah grace ui probably but no always on for sure...

Always on display is a gimmick and battery drainer! I never turned it on again after 1 month use in Nokia Belle (which was better than the Android's counterpart) and still not impressed by it. My phone's battery life will never be enough
What if i dont have the galaxy app store?

Samsung recently pushed out an update to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge that brought along Samsung Cloud, a new feature that the company debuted with the Galaxy Note 7.
The updated Gallery app has Samsung’s new Grace UX interface, but more notable is its inclusion of face and object recognition.
The improved Gallery should be making its way to other flagships in the near future, and so should the entire Grace UX. The latter will probably arrive with the Android 7.0 update, although we’re hoping Samsung will port specific Note 7 features through minor updates following up to the release of Nougat.

What do game launcher?
Samsung recently brought two new features from the Galaxy Note 7 to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge through an update in Italy, and the company is now pushing out the same update to consumers in India. Both devices are getting an over-the-air update sized at around 150 MB; the update brings the Samsung Cloud service and also the new gallery that features face and object recognition.
The update also improves performance in games that utilize the Vulkan API and the response of the touch screen. Power consumption improvements are also on-board thanks to optimization to Smart Manager. A couple of bug fixes are included as well, with a fix for the flashlight/torch not working properly and for problematic cover recognition.

It seems Samsung is slowly releasing the updates. We might just get these updates for S6 and S6 Edge before 2017 comes.
Hi all,
I had a Mediapad m3 earlier this year but eventually returned it because it was a frustrating experience with emui 4. Hardware was great but it was limited by its software : terrible lock screen, no smart lock, no multiwindow, etc.
Did the experience got better with Nougat and emui 5? Is multiwindow fully functional? How about smart lock? Is the tablet still recognised as a phone by apps? There's no real review online with the tablet running Nougat.
I must say even though its specs sheet is inferior, the Samsung Tab S2 8 2016 still seem like a better choice in terms of experience : better software, probable Oero update and awesome custom roms support anyway. It's a different form factor of course but it's also lighter.
What's the day to day experience with the M3 today?
Thanks.
This week I decided to let go of Galaxy S8.
I've been a fan of Android devices since gingerbread days.
1. My first android phone, the Galaxy Y DUOS,
2. Galaxy S3
3. Galaxy S6 (Snapdragon)
4. One Plus 3
5. Galaxy TAB S2
6. Galaxy S8's (Exynos and SnapDragon variant)
I have decided to not continue - use android anymore due to performance, it's been of a "stagnant" years of android to keep up to my preferred "power" standard when it comes to phone performance.
My last 2 phones, both SD and Exynos variant of S8 fails to keep up with me , even with custom kernel.
I feel like this phone fails to deliver what it promised - and we opt to modify something just to get the better of it - total let down of me,
Im not saying that not all of them are bad, it's just I prefer to have a decent looking phone- decent camera (sorry OnePlus doesn't have this much) - and top of the class hardware performance.
This week, I got iPhone for the first time, and it was XS. Superb performance - camera - but kinda missing the customability but i can live with it.
Thanks XDA and I have learned so much about phone stuff, kernel development, android framework, and even learned creating android applications as well.
This is one of the great experience i have when it comes to learning and giving help - opinions as well.
God bless and more power to XDA!
Hi, does a One UI 5 rom like the Noble rom for the S9 exist for my S8 (G950F exynos)? Thanks
I fear that unfortunately, no one ui port besides one ui 2 exists for the galaxy S8/note 8 series.
Galaxy S7 somehow maxed at one ui 2 via custom ROMs
and so did the S8
and somehow the S9 out of nowhere got one ui support up to one ui 5. Probably because of the note 10 lite (which runs the same chipset as the S9/note 9 series) existing, maybe that explains the sudden outcome. Note 10 lite was supposed to max at android 12 but it's support was extended to android 13, and after it completed update circle it got demoted to quarter updates.
I'm aware of S8 being so similar of the S9, but despite that it uses different chipset, so it would be impossible to use the noble ROM installer on a galaxy S8, it would unfortunately give an error instead if you do so.
TLDR: You won't be available to install any one ui port besides max one ui 2 at Samsung S8/note 8 series, except if you wish to use stock android ROMs such lineage os, pixel experience ect.
Pretty sad reality tbh. As someone who uses the S8 for backup I really wish there was better one ui custom rom support for the S8 too.
