Galaxy S8 - No Internet on Wifi or 4G - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I'm having a weird issue with an unlocked S8 where data is not working on both WiFi or 4G. Chrome is displaying an invalid cert authority error and apps don't work. I've tried the basics; rebooting, trying different wifi, verifying date/time is correct, reset network connections, checking for rogue apps, no recent updates. Everything except doing a factory reset which I'm avoiding if possible. Voice calls and SMS are working without issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Much appreciated.
Also, it's stock and unrooted.

This maybe way off base but in settings - lock screen and security - other security settings - security update service - security policy updates check for updates
In the same setting area under credential storage - view security certificates make sure there turned on
Note : Since I am still on nougat (7.0) the setting location may be different if on Oreo

Thanks. It resolved itself after a few days but probably needs a factory reset.

4.4 (KRT16S) WiFi problems

Hi,
I'm having WiFi problems, let me explain the situation:
A few days ago I got the 4.4 (KRT16S) OTA update, let it update, almost all was working fine, but as Android goes, some features were missing when you update (like the Storage Access Framework file picker, it just wasn't active and a few others).
So I factory reset the device (please note I have it completely stock, no root, no unlocked bootloader etc.), after it did it's dirty job I logged back into my Google account and it started to restore my previously installed apps. All fine so far.
After opening Google Play store there were all the images missing and a message telling me that I have no "network connection", which was funny because I could traverse the store, install apps, but just no images.
Next was the Google+ - again telling me I had no connection, the same Google Music, Hangouts and every other third party app that somehow uses (imho) the Google Authetication/Account were reporting errors. On the bright side, gMail/Authenticator/Gallery/Photos were ok... Rebooting the device did not help.
As it was quite late I said "screw it" and went to bed. What was my surprise the next day after logging into the compay WiFi that it works like it should, no errors whatsoever. So I thought "ok, it just needed some time" (whatever that would mean :silly.
After I came back home, logged into my WiFi and again - the same problems. I tried meddling with the encryption modes, even opening it completely, turning off QoS, lowest speed modes, changing channels (not that would help, but I'm desperate ) etc., but to no avail.
Please note that it worked on "before the factory reset" KitKat, 4.3 and 4.2 Jellybean, also Transformer Prime and HTC Wildfire S (bunch of different roms and versions since I have them) are using that WiFi with no problems.
Anybody having similar problem? Is there a fix for that?
Thanks for your time
EDIT: The WiFi connects and most of the apps work, it's just some of the Google apps that do not: Google+, YouTube, Play store/music, Hangouts and some others.

how old is your router? Does it support 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? In Wifi, select "Advanced" and select the frequency that your router support.
I have this one, not that old, but still only 2.4 GHz:
- D-Link DWL-2100AP
- http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Business_Products/DWL/DWL 2100AP/Manual/dwl2100ap_manual_EN_USA.pdf
Update: Well...somehow it fixed itself after a while (day), the only permanent change to my WiFi settings was changing the channel and SSID...no idea what's the reasoning behind this, but I'm glad it's working now
The problem is DNS related - once I set Google's DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) for my home WiFi on the phone, all the problems were gone. Fixed the problem on my N4 KitKat and another user's N7 KitKat with completely different AP/router.
Weird - all the other devices have no problems with my router's DNS (different device than the AP). Hope that helps somebody who has the same problem

Urgent Help require: Note 3 “Smart Network Switch" not working anymore.

Hi there,
Recently I discovered this issue: the “Smart Network Switch" is not working anymore.
For me this is very important, as here wifi connection is not that great like the Mobile Data network here. Wifi internet sometime downs without any notification but Mobile data network is 100% uptime 24x7. But so far the " Smart Network Switch" helps me great as I’ve to stay online over skype always, if the wifi lost internet then it automatically switch to HSPDA which helps me to stay online always even if I’m unaware the wifi internet is down.
Earlier even if the wifi internet link is ok still sometime it was switching to HSPDA by saying internet is slow, I don’t mind that but recently I was noticing even if the wifi was down for long time it wasn’t switching to HSPDA.
In short the "Smart Network Switch" isn’t working at all at any condition. I doubt it could be due to any recent installed app. But I’m not sure which one could. I checked the all recent installed apps accessibility list and removed Airdriod and CM Security which had full network access. But still that didn’t help.
I’m sure this is due to a software bug not a hardware issue. For more input and clues:
# Since over last six month my phone lost the vibration, the vibration motor is not working, I tested with hardware test. I’m really not happy with this phone. Its not yet completed 1year and couldn’t find any nearest service center. So its still working without the vib feature.
# Recently I’ve upgraded the local WIFI setup with a primary dual band TP-Link router and another wifi router as bridge with same SSID and password, this is to get better wifi coverage. Due to this dual router the wifi coverage is at full bar everywhere and the phone has the same. But I think this is nothing to do with this.
Please advice. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried a factory reset?
Have you removed the certificates from those apps?
Have you removed them as device administrators?

Thanks for your reply. No I don’t want to factory reset for now, this would be my last option as I have to a lots of work to get everything back, apps and data, setup etc.
No I did not removed the certificates from those apps. Never did this before. When I uninstall I always clear all data of those apps and then uninstall. How do I find certificates of those apps? I know the certificate location but don’t know how to find those specifically.
I removed them as device administrators if its require, if a app in dev admin, it cannot be uninstall.
Please advice. Thanks
Sorry, credentials, not certificates. Bloody autocorrect....
Settings > security. Scroll all the way down. You can either clear all user-added credentials all at once by hitting clear credentials, or look it up and deselect it manually under trusted credentials.

Yes here credentials are CA certificates, after reading your 1st post I checked that but there was none user added, all are system and its a huge list. Also the clear option grayed out as nothing there to delete.
I wiped system cache partition from recovery, ran it under safe mode but nothing helps. So I doubt this will fix even after formatting to factory setting. It could be a hardware issue.
The issue has been fixed after formatting and factory resetting the phone.

Yes but this made my work increase a lot to get back all previous apps and their data. Kies app backup didnt backup app data, only the apps itself. I didnt know that. It took me a a day to get every setting back. Their could be another way to clear data somewhere which I couldnt find.

Any way it was very important for me, so that had to go for this. Thanks for the advice BTW.

Galaxy S5 G900P mobile data connectivity issue

Greetings, friends!
I seem to be having an issue with my Galaxy S5. Many times when I receive a message (via WhatsApp or Snapchat for example)
my phone does not show any notifications. However, when I open the app manually, it recalls to use it's mobile data and only then,
when the app is running, I receive all of the notifications I haven't received yet.
This does not happen when my phone is connected to my house WiFi. My phone can receive data from my mobile network,
and my data is always turned on, but for some reason it's shut down for most of the apps (if not all of them) unless the app
is running (not in background).
I have tested this without power saver mode and app power saver, same result.
Is there any way I can get my phone to enable mobile data at all times?
So I'll be able to get the notification the second someone sends me a message.
Things worth mentioning:
Phone model: SM-G900P, unrooted.
Firmware: Sam Mobile's stock Sprint (G900PVPU3CPCA)
Hardware version: G900P.04
Android version: 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
Baseband version: same as firmware.
Kernel version: 3.4.0-7603580
[email protected] #1
Build number: MMB29M.G900PVPU3CPCA
My device was bought in Europe (in Russia), but I use it in western side of the middle east.
That means I cannot activate my device via my network (using the hands free activation).
Whenever I restart my device, the "activating your device..." notification pops out.
It retries 5 times finally it opens the "Activate this device" app (from settings) and it says
the activation was not successful and that I should contact costumer support.
I have already set up my network's APN with their provided settings and it is the one
I currently use. I tried changing the APN type to " "(empty), "default", "internet" but it doesn't help.
My carrier provides a 3G network. The phone always has some bars and it shows the 3G sign in the
network icon in the status bar.
My network mode is set to Automatic (although I've tried all of the others and it didn't fix it).
I don't have a roaming option at all... ?
I can use my phone properly to make phone calls in an average quality.
This problem started only AFTER updating to marshmallow using Sam Mobile's firmware (via odin).
Resetting my cache partition did not solve this problem.
I will contact my carrier and ask them, but I'm pretty sure it's something in the new firmware that prevents
mobile data without forced usage (or is unable to connect unless a request is forcing it to change network type).
Any help will be much appreciated!
Update: Even when my phone is connected to my home WiFi, it won't show the notifications before I open WhatsApp.
Could it be a firmware issue?
I am also having massive problems with the APN after flashing my G900P with ANY custom rom. Have yet to find a fix for this.

Mobile data + GPS issue - solution found.

On different ROMs, my experience has been that after a few weeks, my mobile data becomes unreliable (data connection lost, 'x' on the bar symbol in the status bar). Sometimes, mobile data could be restored by switching between 'Global' and 'CDMWMA/LTE...'. More often a reboot was necessary. Then, gradually, the number of reboots increased until I had to reboot multiple times/day. Concurrent with this, GPS lock time increased dramatically (maybe because of no data, but also when I have mobile data connection).
I have now finally found that creating a new APN solves this problem. I just go to \Settings\SIM Cards\Card 2\APN and basically copy the individual settings of the APN of my provider to a new APN and all the problems disappear.
I have an A2017G with 2 sim cards and an SD card.
I believe the Google Carrier Services app causes issues after an update. Nothing to prove that but it seems I have glitches after an update and go to check my settings then it seems to work better.

Where exactly in Settings do I need to go for this?
Also, update: on my 2nd day with RR (2017-12-18 version), I lost my mobile data connection and only a reboot brought it back. So not sure my APN solution works in this case. The APN solution above worked on AOSPExtended. Looks like I will need to continue to look for the real root cause of this.

APN Settings Issue

Hello,
When I originally purchased my Essential phone through Sprint, the phone had issues with sending and receiving text messages. I would receive multiple copies of the same text repeatedly, which was quite a nuisance. I discovered a fix on this forum that involved a custom APN setting, it worked like a charm.
Following a subsequent update, that custom APN became problematic and I could not connect to mobile data as a result. This was easily corrected by switching back to the original APN. My phone treated the custom APN as the default, so I would periodically have to switch it back. Annoying, but no big deal.
HOWEVER, after the most recent update I've found out that the developers, in their infinite wisdom, decided to lock the ability of the user to edit APN settings.
Now, my phone is locked into a default custom APN that does not allow me to access mobile data.
Does anybody have any advice for how to resolve this issue? Is there a way to completely reset my APN settings, or am I screwed and the only option is to reset the phone to factory settings?
