My wife's s8 refused to turn on. I held both volume up and down and power at the same time for 10-20 seconds. Booted fine at 0% battery after that.

When you say you tested your charger, did you use a multi purpose voltmeter to make sure it puts out the correct voltage and amps?
Also, are you running a custom rom or factory stock?
If you have cwm installed you can wipe battery stats and see if it helps.
If not, and you are on ics you might try an ec flash through cwm.
Other than that, you probably have either a bad internal voltage regulator, unlikely, or a bad battery.
You can usually find battery replacements on the net. Just pop the back off and get the part number.
Or, you can send it to acer repair for warranty work.
MD
If you want to eliminate software or hardware from the equation just shutdown the tab and then connect the charger. If it charges then you know that the cause is in software. If it doesn't then it's the hardware at fault.

Do not boot the tablet. Just shut it down fully, connect charger and leave it for some time. Just observe the power button LED. It should be red while charging.

I have the same issue. Tried a million different ROMs and that didn't seem to solve the problem. The Orange/Red light comes on when the charger is plugged in but no matter how long I leave it on there the battery will say 12% when I get into Recovery.
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:56 PM ----------
Also, it may be good to mention that I can't mount the sd in recovery either, if this isn't a power hardware issue it may be related to that? I got the tab to boot but only the navigation bar shows and the top left corner says android system. Won't move past that.

This is in fact a charger problem; was having it I'm pretty sure its caused by your charger supplying the wrong amperage or voltage mine was doing it after it had been shorting out by the plug in. I took it apart resoldered all the connections put new wire in it and it worked like brand new never had had it since i would say do the same if you have the experience or know how if you don't they go on eBay for pretty cheap just make sure you don't get a fake one
Good luck
My s4 keeps restarting and I can neither enter download mode nor recovery. The Samsung logo appears and then the s4 restarts again and keeps on and on. I hold volume down and power, and the first screen of download mode appears, i try to press volume up but nothing happens and the phone restarts again, I already tried to enter on recovery/download mode without, sd card, without sim, but nothing works

Then its your power key. What u ned to do is first yet blowing/sucking on the power key to remove dirt and see if it worked if not then you gotta open ur phone up and clean the power key area. If u dont want to open it just take it to a phone shop tell them to remove the dirt. Should do it for free

Man, look what happened. I cleaned the phone with a tech, all the parts of the phone, and nothing happened. So he said it could be soft problem. I plugged the phone without battery on usb, I put the battery and when the download mode appeared, I removed the battery and could enter on download mode, so I flashed the rom again, but nothing happen again. So i did it again, enter download mode, wait a while and then put the battery back, and the phone restarts. I'm thinking its a battery issue. What you think???
I had the same problem! I fixed it making some "adjusments" to the power button. Check my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/dead-s4-i9500-bootloop-t2851896

Man, look what happens. I let the phone more than 12 hours without the battery, sim card and sim. When I put the battery back, it starts rebooting and then an android appears and load something. when it finishes, the phone works but not the power key
At about 12:00 AM on 11/9/15 when I was about to sleep I saw a message on my Yureka phone that the battery was low (15% left) and asking to turn on battery saver mode. I did not do it as I was to get up at 6:00AM and an alarm was also set at that time. I woke up at 6:30AM saw there were few SMS. I put the phone on charge. I do not remember what amount of charge was left. After an hour I checked the phone. There was a blue light indicating the the charging was on. When I pressed the power button the phone did not respond (display was dark, it did not light up). I removed the phone from charging and reconnected. Now the blue light did not turn on. There was not light. Then I opened the phone case removed battery and reconnected it and tried to switch on the phone. It did not turn on!! When I tried by connecting the charger, the phone did not turn on. After few more trials of combinations I called the customer care. They asked me to do lot of things which did not help. They say they have escalated the complaint and they will call back in 24 to 48 hrs... Today 12/9/15 when I tried to connect the charger I got a red light. I left it for long time thinking the phone will get charged.
When I checked the internet for the problem I find that only bricked phones indicate with red light when charger/PC is connected!! I have not done anything which the forum says so that the phone gets bricked.
Have anyone faced similar problem and how do I come out of it?
How to take data out of such phones??

Any help appreciated. I have a 32 GB Silver 6P that was purchased new on Swappa and was running flawlessly. It was updated to Nougat via beta program when Nougat was officially released. It is on the Google Fi network and was running fine up until 10/31. I left it on the charger that came with it and on 10/31 am, it will no longer turn on. I don't know the IMEI nor SN, it's not on the box. I have tried all the things to get it to turn on (Holding PB for 15 sec, Holding PB and Vol Dwn button), nothing works. HELP!!!
This happened to me 3 months ago
I left the phone on charger for about 12 hours straight untouched
Then when i came back from work i pressed the home button for about 5 minutes or even more then it worked again ( by the way after all that charge time, when it opened again battery level was just 35 % )
Now try the power button for 5 minutes straight if no response you may try what i did
Good luck

How long did you leave the phone plugged into a wall outlet? Some people reported they plugged the phone in for 24 hours or more before their phone came back to life. I think the notification light being on while the phone is plugged in is a sign that your phone is back from the dead.

Purchased the device brand new from Best Buy on March 11, 2016 . Running 7.1.1 since it's release and worked fine last night, left it plugged in all night and confirmed it was charging. Use stock OEM charger. Wake up this morning and it won't respond to any button-press variations (Power, Power + Vol Down, Power + Vol Up & Vol Down, etc).
I don't see any indication that powers on at all (No boot logo, Android with exclamation mark, etc)
Mac and Windows do not recognize device is plugged in. (Using included USB Type-a cable)

Just bought an S5 from eBay sold as 'Parts Not Working'
Wanting to try and fix it up myself.
First of all tried the 3 button reset... no luck. tried to enter download mode, no luck. Took battery out for 10 secs, put in and tried to power on, no luck. Plugged phone into PC, no response... didnt recognise.
Tried another fully charged battery in it. Nothing.
When charging there is no beacon on the top to indicate charging.
Went out for 3 hours and left the phone on charge to come back and find something strange. The whole screen flashing white every 2 seconds. But it wasnt a pure white screen it had multi coloured specs in it.
Any other suggestions?
Do u think its the mainboard which has failed?
