Well, this is my first time posting on XDA. I have a ZTE Grand X 4 Z956 running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the January 1, 2017 security patch. The forums said I had an Axon 7, and there are no forums on my device, so I might as well post here. I cannot achieve root on this thing with Kingroot, Kingoroot, iRoot, or Towelroot. I even tried the dirty cow exploit before it updated and that did not work when it had an earlier security patch. Please help!

Ok sorry I posted here.
Wow talk about community
The thing is, it's a different device. It's not much point asking because who knows, advice could cause a brick. The Axon 7 mini is a different device too. It has a different SoC.
Obviously the basics will still apply so bootloader unlocked is a must.
Is there a way to root muy phone, everything I find is outdated & for an older version.

Are you sure that this will work? I didn't see anything on the security patch being supported? He only listed a T-Mobile edge security patch

The root kernel listed will work with all version.of the os you root, 6.0.1 or 7.0. There have been no posts about certain security updates not running root right, just the posts about supersu updates causing glitches. You'll be fine
So just to understand, security updates are irrelevant if the android version matches?
It's been awhile since I've rooted anything, just trying to get the basics down to avoid a brick.

Yeah. The better news is that using Odin and flashing any of the flushable packages through Odin for any carrier will not brick your phone as long as it is a non-Chinese snapdragon variant. So vzw, unlocked, AT&T...whatever your flavor. Devs have hybrid roms that run without root and provide some customization as well.
just did this, sorry was away because of work. say's "custom unlock" now so it worked with no issues! Thank you!!!
@Dirtydcs
Thank you for posting that it worked helps keep info up to date for others.
I just got a SM-G930V from verizion and also have Android Version 7.0, I'm at Security patch level May 1, 2017 and have Baseband version G930VVRS4BQC9 and was wondering if this was the same baseband version you where running? When you rooted.
Thanks
Finger print issue can be fixed by just clearing the prints off your phone
I am trying to root my SM-G930P, and I searched this forum, but I'm completely lost.
I can't find information regarding my phone, and I don't know if I can root it or not with the current rom installed and with which method.
Can I root using the instructions given in the following thread ?
Is there a better suited method for my phone?
sorry for this noob post, I usually can find my way around and previously rooted successfully other models, but with this specific model, I'm at loss.

Took me zero effort to find this thread... You're welcome.
Maybe instead of posting a new thread you could just ask in that existing one you found...

As you see, I have SM-G930P and not SM-G930U and there's nothing telling me I can safely apply the same technique in order to get it rooted.
If you can confirm to me I can go ahead, I will glad fully test it.
Thanks for your answer.
I tried this method on P firmware and could not get mobile data to work.
I also have the same phone as the OP and can't find anything recent on rooting this P version phone. I didn't have any issues with rooting s3-s6 on version. Usually the info is more concise and easier to find. I'm not a coder by anymeans, thank you to the people who come up with these roots and rom version. If anyone has any info on rooting P I'd also love the help.
any update on this? on QL1, avoiding the TAA update to RA1 until I know i can root either of them

Bootloop on Samsung Galaxy S7 g930p NRD90M.G930PVPU5BQL1

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7
I tried rooting my s7 g930p NRD90M.G930PVPU5BQL1 from watching a video on youtube. I used odin and file Samsung_G930x_QC_Rooted_BOOT.TAR Now my phone bootloops.
Can anyone point me to the right direction?

Same here. been working to to restore it but so far the above tar file you posted is the only one that odin "likes". (all the others fail)
I'm in the same boat with the same phone on Sprint. What about using one of the "one click root" methods such as cf-auto-root. It seems like it will create a custom package for this phone. Has anyone tried it?
Don't know what bootloader I'm on, looked through countless threads without 1 explaining how to find their respective bootloader version; on pie one ui v 1.0 security patch version July 2019 (not planning on updating anytime soon) last 4 of my build number ending in dsg7 if that helps. I understand that I cannot unlock the bootloader with this qualcomm version, I just want root, If you guys can explain to me what the bootloader versions have to do with this as a first step, it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hi, first I promise I'm not crazy, I just don't like some changes 10 has made regarding the operations of some of my favorite, have-to-have apps as well as how some apps interact with other apps. Second, I do apologize if this is posted elsewhere. I tried searching in several areas for this tab and couldn't find anything about downgrading.
So, here are some specs I think are usually asked for :fingers-crossed::
Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e (2019) - SM-T720NZDLXAR (USA version) (Not rooted because I'm too scared I'll kill the darned thing beyond resurrection.)

Service provider SW ver.

Please LMK if anything else is needed.
The upgrade was done a few days ago. I searched the net for stock firmware but couldn't identify for sure if any I found would work with my specific model. I readily admit to not having the knowledge to start experimenting first and begging for help after I've blown it up, or bricked it . I'll just skip to the begging. And I'm usually pretty good at following directions when they're in basic layman's terms.
TIA for any assistance and/or guidance offered and please accept my attempts at humor in the nature they're intended. :silly:
Hello, I'm thinking about downgrading my s5e to use Linux on Dex as my tablet came with Android 10 which doesn't work with it.
If you're still in need of these instructions, I can record my steps for you when I attempt the downgrade.

So is this possible? Also, are you saying tablets that originally shipped with Android 9 are now shipping with android 10 instead??? Wtf I don't want android 10!
I don't mind unlocking my bootloader as soon as I get my tablet, but I really need android 9 and not 10. Would you mind telling me how to downgrade?

Did you ever do the downgrade? You mind sharing the details of how you did it for a noob?
