hi, try flashing https://idlekernel.com/twrp/hero2qlte/3.0.0-0/twrp-3.0.0-0-hero2qltetmo.tar.md5
while it isn't for your phone (it's actually for T-Mobile S7 Edge), if it at least flashes then you are in the clear and I will happily port TWRP for G930P.
If the flash fails with SECURE CHECK FAIL, then you are out of luck. (nothing is changed and it won't trip knox)
RESULTS
if it flashes successfully, and trips knox, then you have an unlocked bootloader, and twrp will happen for you in a few days
if it does not flash, it will not trip knox, and nothing will have changed, but you have a locked bootloader
I'll test when I get back home thanks

Sprint variant is locked. Thanks for the confirmation. Yeah, you're Fked, apologies!
T-Mobile is also locked.
You may one day become vulnerable to a live root exploit such like TowelRoot, but you will never be able to use a custom recovery, system image (ROM), or kernel.

I believe that depends on the CSC. You can always RAL with Google though using the "Google Settings" and turning it on.

Might be time to ship this phone back. I have about 8 days left to decide.
Sprint told me they don't lock bootloaders. What's this all about?
I've been perusing threads in the s7 forums, members have tried and failed to flash anything onto the US variants, international versions have been rooted though.

This is probably on Samsung, not Sprint, tbh.
Either way, the Galaxy 7 customers in the U.S. are completely screwed, as far as ever getting root/recovery/any development for Galaxy 7s goes.
No chance of development means no real need for these forums on XDA, honestly.
(I mean, this is an Android Development website.)
Let the devs figure it out if they can; until that happens there's nothing to really do here. ?
(My device is going back, though.)

Yea, I'm not going to risk hanging on to a phone I can't root.
In our current S***y state i guess we will just have to bounty for a working root.

Just got a brand new verizon S7 (since my aunt did not want it). I am on Tmobile and have no plans to change to Verizon. I popped in my Tmo sim and it works, but I guess I am still missing Band 12 and maybe wifi calling. It has been a while since I have done custom roms and rooting. I would appreciate some pointers as these are my criteria
1) Need all the bands possible to be used on Tmobile
2) Samsung Pay and android Pay
3) Root is not required for what I do and sometimes my wortk email will not install when it snifs root. (it used to on my S5 2 years ago)
Right now I am on G930VVRS4APH1 (BASEBAND VERSION and build)
Looking for advise on what I should do. I read too much and am confused about being in bootloader V3 or V4 and not able to get back . I am familiar with Odin and TWRP etc, but have notg kept up with the community. With my S6 I have mostly stayed stock.
Help me out folks if you can and especially with links and what firmware and ROM to install.

Don't root if you need this. Samsung Pay gets disabled permanently when Knox is tripped, and Android Pay doesn't work when rooted.

Wrong. Pls give out accurate information. Knox never gets tripped as the kernel we use doesn't check dm-verity. So you Knox will not get tripped . But Sammy pay will not work with root. However Android Pay will work , use cloak from xposed. [emoji12] [emoji318]

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of the S7 int'l (which I own) that is rooted with CF Autoroot, which trips Knox. Forgot about the kernel used on the US version.

Don't use U fw it sucks! Has no doze which is the main battery saver built into MM. Force doze does not cut it. I suggest you flash a rom with working doze whatever you flash. Good luck and Merry Christmas to you.

I was in your situation as well , since I got a Verizon Galaxy S7 from a deal at Best Buy , but I needed to used it on T-Mobile . I believe I successfully flashed the latest APK1 T-mobile firmware (latest one from early November) . I am able to use WiFi calling and MMS , but I haven't tried video calling yet. Looks like I'm getting 4g LTE speeds also (I live in suburban part of Los Angeles).
Use this post from XDA forum to find the latest firmware version :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/one-stock-t-mobile-930-firmware-t3520525
I also used this guide as well :
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2016/06/Ho...al-Firmware-on-Samsung-Galaxy-S7-S7-Edge.html
However, I suggest d/l 'ing the USB drivers from Samsung website directly, instead of the source cited in that website (seems suspicious). Also, having SmartSwitch on the PC saves so much time to backup your current phone's contents, believe me!
Hope that helps.

just a tad bit off topic here, but i'm on tmobile right now with a tmo version S7 and wondering if it will work on Verizon if i unlock the phone?
so i am looking to possibly root my device and have come to some stopping points.... looking for some very detailed instructions entailing how to complete the rooting and unlocking bootloader process if anyone can help me with that.. it would greatly appreciated!!!! i know there are some guides out there, but for some reason it seems as though i cant get some to work.. I'd really like to root my Galaxy S8+ (AT&T) but I'm worried that it will leave some warning message every time the phone boots like it did with my Motorola G or Huawei 6x. I know from past experience that Samsung Android products may show a small fine print on boot and can be reset at anytime back to factory (the Huawei, in contrast, cannot).
Is that the case with the S8?
Anyone? Comon guys!
Hi if you have the US phone, at boot there is a custom firmware screen or something. It will go away after a few restarts if you go back to factory though.

Cool, thank for the reply! It doesn't seem too bad and, if your warranty is already expired, you have nothing to lose.
Is there an original rom that's debloated for this?
Hi
Would someone help a newbie please.
I am using an S7 Edge with a cracked screen. Given the price of proper replacement screen it doesn't seem worthwhile.
It seems better value to buy an S8+, but which model number? There are apparently 12 different versions! Could anybody please tell me which model of Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus would be best for the UK?
Cheers

A friend of mine gave me an S8 phone. Its reset and wiped clean. I was trying to set it up but it requires his old gmail account and password to get in to. The problem is, it won't take his password. He emailed google about it and he's waiting to see if they will recover his account on it. He won't be using the phone anymore as he has a new one. I'd like to use it as I have an S7 and this one has double the storage space that mine has.
If they can't recover his account, I want to flash the memory and start over. I've been a computer tech for 20 years so I know all about flashing the BIOS and how that can brick it. My question is, since I can't get into the system of the phone and see what the version of the firmware is, how confident can I rely on the back of the phone where it says SM-G950U? I've read that even though its branded that way on the back, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will show that in the system. I've downloaded the newest firmware I can find for it, SM-G950U_201910251442240_c0osvhilm6_fac from Updato and will use Odin to flash it with.
This was used on Straight Talk and has Tracfone branding on the startup.

You know I've been sitting here thinking about this. And it's TRUE 100% most of the bricks and bricking does happen on the locked us devices. Me myself even have a semi bricked one just sitting here to no avail of fixing hours and hours spent. They are a lot more finicky it seems than a unlocked bootloader ???
I'm sorry but I'm still having trouble getting this to work. I've tried the combo file and putting the extracted file in the AP section, and while that works, the phone just goes into a loop from the Factory Binary to that Settings screen and once its rebooted, it all starts again. What am I doing wrong? I've reset it to factory data several times.

It's all good man. I couldn't believe I effed up like that. Thank God that didn't turn out bad. That day I had so many tabs open and was trying to finish it up before rushing off to work never checking the link I posted.
