So Nougat has been released for AT&T Users. I realize that Root for Nougat has not been achieved yet, but I want to get the ball rolling and start a discussion on the topic.
I'm assuming the engineering kernel root won't work on nougat, so we are once again without root. Has any development begun on root? I know there is pretty much no chance unlocking the bootloaders, but how long do you think it will be before we can get root? A month? maybe two? Do we know who is working on it?

It's doubtful that anyone is working on root. The engineering kernel was a lucky break for us on MM, but for Nougat we most likely won't see root unless someone unlocks the bootloader. Google has been increasing the security of Android with each update, so exploits are getting harder to find. Even if we do get the su binary in place, dm-verity will stop us from booting, and disabling dm-verity seems to require a kernel modification which the locked bootloader doesn't allow. I'm sure people are interested in unlocking the bootloader of our phone, but considering the history of Samsung devices and bootloaders, that chance doesn't look great. Maybe somebody ought to start searching for a new engineering kernel... it'd be a better leak than some blurry device pictures
Or if you got your hand on the international version, it seem that the international version is still rootable.
I really new to the Samsung dev scene so please forgive any ignorance.
Is this what you're looking for? It seems to claim root on the G930A on Nougat.

Don't use it if your chipset is not Snapdragon.
THIS IS NOT FOR THE EXYNOS VERSION OF THE S7! <- this was the big fat warning for anybody not reading it. My phone is currently the Exynos version, so I won't be able to root it.
Hi I Just recently got the H910 ATT model. Its currently on the September 1, 2016 security patch with 10c software. I was wondering if the Dirty Santa method will work on this firmware and what is the most recent software I can be on while still being able to root and install a ROM. Is there anyway to update to the newest rootable firmware without getting 10M? Or am I best staying on 10C and rooting from here?
My second question is which rom would be best for the H910? NATF or WETA?
I am looking for a more stable rom with no static boot.
Thanks.
Stay 10C or youll be patched. Dirtysanta will work. Roms:try both and stay with what you like
Thank you for asking this spncr_wu
Hey all,
So I'm shortly about to receive my V20 H990DS. I've read that in order for DirtyCow to work, I need to have a firmware with a security patch prior to January 2017. I'm in Australia if it matters, but I'm wanting to know which firmware I should use, if there's any difference between them at all apart from versions. Once I'm rooted and Unlocked with DirtyCow on it, I understand I can't update the firmware or anything (unless I'm wrong?), so I'm wanting preferably the most stable firmware if possible as this will be my daily driver, and I will be running it stock rooted.
Cheers
Thanks for so much amazing work. I have a Snapdragon 950U1 that still has V2 Bootloader and Nougat/7. From as much searching and reading as I can find here, it looks like the current choices for updating are:
1 - Root and be stuck at Nougat with 80% battery charging
2 - Update to Oreo or Pie, and permanently lose the option for root
Do I have this right? There's no way to get to Oreo and keep root?
If so, which would you recommend? Is Oreo/Pie worth it?
You can update to Oreo or pie and still have safestrap TWRP with Jrkruise mods.
Hello guys, some time after i bought the phone i rooted It and i keep updating It for like a year but since it must be a manual procedure after a while i just stopped. Now i need to install a bank app who require to have the phone unrooted. I know there's a thread about how to unroot the phone but i'm in an old OS, Oreo 8.1.0, oxygen 5.1.1.. What i suppose to do?Should i update it first to the last oxygen first? Should i do that step by step, and if yes where can i find all the files? Or maybe should i just unroot now and then the download the ota? I have no clue, and i'm very rusty on modding, i need some help :crying:
