So last week i was trying to plug my Galaxy S using the standard usb cord that Samsung gives us..
however i didnt get any response from my laptop..
then i will unplug the usb..and the device will still say is plug...so i tried to restart the device and it wont start up..the only way to start it is by plugin it in a usb.
so i tried reseting everything....nope the issue wont go away.
i tried flashing to a different rom..had the JPO rom from kies..
and nope the issue wont go away...
flashed actually 2 different roms..and nothing...and yes at the stage that i was flashing the problem seemed to come intermittent.. so whilst i was able to connected it to the pc i decided to odin..
but yes the problem occured.
now the problem is even worst..it just wont start at all...dont know what to do?!
may need to take it to my carrier...
i believe is a hardware issue...
anyone had experiences like that???
Just to clarify, it has worked prior to last week?
My Galaxy S wasn't being detected in USB Mass Storage mode properly last night, but a restart of my pc fixed that.

Maybe it's just a bad battery. Does (or did) it start up when you plug it into a wall charger?
No is not the battery..as that charges correctly .my theory is that the data cable of the USB connector has somehow become short..and so is not accepting any data signal
Im having problems with my phone. My current setup is used aroot before update did the retain root, and later webtop mod for the 4.1.57 Now i am having usb port issues. 1st issue i noticed sometime when phones hooked to computer it freaks out like its being plugged in and unplugged so i hear the notification bell going off like 10 times. Just now it had popped up error that device failed and crashed my whole usb bus till i shutdown computer. And lastly my usb doesnt work with car anymore. doesnt even pop up notification to choose usb connection anymore. but the battery does show charging and screen gets bright so i know its doing some kind of connection. anyone seen these issues? or know what i should try? when connected to pc just now after the crash i get the phone portal to work as normal and notifications functioning.
ok update, the car issue seem to fixed itself powered off and back on and worked again. not sure about computer part yet.
ok problem not fixed, still usb connection issues to both car and computer. going to try uninstalling webtop mod see if that fixes it. bbut see had no replys so guess no one else had this issue.
Hi, i just got my Galaxy S5. Somehow i had some charging problems and after it had contact problems and constantly showing "Connected" - "Not Connected" it completly stopped working when i installed Lollipop. I sent it to a repair center and they swapped the charging port and installed KitKat Stock firmware again. Charging now worked, but after some days the error came back again. I reinstalled KitKat via Odin again and now its charging normally. But i know this error will come again and i have no idea how this is possible.
No matter which firmware i got:
- When plugging in the charger while Android is shut down, it shows a battery with a yellow warning symbol. But the phone everytime detects when the charger is plugged in even if its not charging (when Android is running, it doesnt even shows the charger is connected)
- Connection in Download mode via Odin 100% working without any disconnection problems
What the hell is the problem when its not hardware-side and works when i reinstall KitKat?
Push...
Sent my S5 to Samsung and they replaced the charging port. Charging on KitKat WORKED flawless. After Lollipop Update via KIES it has contact error again and does not charge ... Download mode fully working, Charging while Android running NOT working, USB connection not working and charging while Android shut down shows battery error symbol after 1 minute. But it detects that the charger is plugged in when android is shut down....
Sometimes it detects USB and charger but very randomly and for short periods of time. Right now it somehow detected USB connection and works since some minutes after it showed connected disconnected for several times.
Get the phone replaced, it's obviously faulty

I cannot replace it, only send it to the support again. But it cant be that Download mode is working but depending on the Android version USB and charging is not. This is just not possible and cant be hardware-related.
Don't know if this has been already considered, but: did you try another USB cable and/or another charger ? Maybe its not the phone after all !
Just my 2 cents,
Axel

Of course it can be hardware related, if it was firmware related, it would be happening to everyone
Hey guys, I'm really at a loss here. I have a Dev edition Note 4. It is rooted with a custom rom running. Randomly, the phone stopped connecting to computers via MTP to transfer files, I could not transfer any data between the phone and any computer via USB. I tried different cables and different computers. The phone still charged, but did not connect via USB. Then, the phone also stopped charging via USB, I was just getting a blinking gray battery icon when the phone was completely powered off and plugged in to the wall. I read online something about holding Volume Up, Power and Home when the gray battery icon appears and it will start charging again. This worked! However still no Data, but at least it would charge. I read something else online about holding this same combination of keys in Download/Odin mode which I tried, and this disabled charging again! WTF! Now I cannot get it to re-enable. I am at a loss here, is sending the phone back to Samsung really my only option?
I've tried: Different Cables, Different Computers, going in to USB Service Menu with *#0808# and selecting MTP and MTP+ADB, nothing works. I am positive something can affect USB settings in Download mode, but I am at my wits end trying to figure it out.
Any ideas?

Why not try wiping data/cache from recovery and install an official ROM from Samsung)either 4.4.4 or lollipop)
Bad USB port
