adb restore doesn't restore anything after Oreo - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi, after upgrade to Oreo, I've do a ADB restore of single app as I do usually... But with my surprise, when I go to check if my application is successfully restored, I can't find it.
Why? Maybe Samsung have changed something in latest Oreo firmware or summering other?

How to stock update with rooted and TWRP?

Have a LeEco Pro 3 (US Version) running 5.8.19s official stock version, bootloader unlocked and official TWRP installed. But my system update fails everytime eventhough it shows there is new update 5.8.21s but phone boots to recovery in TWRP and asking for password. I have tried several times but its the same thing over and over again. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some different file that I must flash?

You need the official recovery for update to work

You can update to 21s on the US version (727) from TWRP with a few modifications to the updater-script file (see the below post/thread):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72815409&postcount=48
This will remove root but it keeps TWRP so you should be able to just reinstall root through TWRP.
Thank you. Will it keep my data and apps intact or will it erase them? I don't want to lose all my important data and setup.

I did a wipe before updating but it should work without wiping as the update zip file is the official OTA with only a modified updater-script. Do a backup from TWRP before you try it and if anything goes wrong you can revert to that backup.
Running into the same issue..did your script and that worked. Thanks for that.
Flash 19s using TWRP and needed a somewhat official way to get to 21s. Use the script of d/l the official 21s update and pushed the modified zip to sdcard to get flashed in TWRP. So hopefully this update, updated whatever it needs to update and maybe it will fix my other issue... why when I flash Lineage base ROMs they show my battery only at 50%
I followed the above instructions and replaced with the updated script however TWRP is giving me Error 7 and a quick google search is saying it is due to problem with updated script. How do you guys fix this?

System update after root?

Dear, a system update has appeared today. However, after downloading, it fails. I think it's because of root. Has anyone experienced something like this or is there any solution to install this update (75MB)
Only option is to use mi flash tool for clean installation and take ota update.I tried all possible options to take ota ;but nothing worked for me.Mi flash tool also not working for me.I used 29 fastboot commands to restore my phone.
Hello, did anyone find an option to make an OTA System Update with unlocked Bootloader, TWRP installed, Magisk root installed and Android One 9 running?
Systemupdate always abort after download

Moto X Play - Can I return to stock with nandroid & perform OTA?

Hi folks,
I am using Lineage 14.1 for a while. So, I want to go back to stock once Lenovo released Nougat.
I have a Nandroid backup of my old Marshmalow stock rom made with TWRP.
My question is: If I restore the nandroid backup, can I make the OTA update or will I brick my phone?
Hope someone can help
Thanks
You backup probably doesn't contain the valid recovery for OTA update (because, to make your backup, you need to replace the official recovery with TWRP). So, once you restore your backup, you must also flash the original recovery with fastboot.
Check if System Status is still official in the boot loader. If its 'Official' you can flash stock recovery after restoring your backup and then can install OTA update. If status is 'Modified' you have to flash the whole OS with fastboot commands to get OTA. But dont downgrade to Marshmallow after getting Official Nougat, your will hard brick you mobile and there is no way to ressurect it as of now!

Questions for upgrading to Oreo - is this correct?

Hi all,
I'm running OOS 4.5.15, unlocked bootloader, still encrypted, xdvs23's TWRP 3.1.1 (build 62 - so quite old) with the latest Magisk. I'm finally ready to upgrade to Oreo and having read some of the threads / guides etc. I think I'm happy to do a full-wipe to upgrade to Oreo and I'm considering going to LineageOS rather than the stock OOS.
As I'm on an old TWRP build that won't work with Oreo, and won't allow me to restore backups I think I need to upgrade to twrp-noapp-3.2.1-0-20180309-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img which will allow me to make a full backup that I could restore later. Once I've got this backup, and a TitaniumBackup I can copy everything off my /sdcard drive to my PC.
I need to lock the bootloader (which will wipe the entire phone) and I can then allow the stock OOS 4.5.15 to upgrade to the latest build of Oreo (5.0.4). I can then unlock the bootloader, re-flash codeworkx TWRP and generally follow the instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-oreo-oneplus-5-t3727228 also installing the latest version of Magisk and then restore from TitaniumBackup the apps I actually still want.
Questions:
1) Can my initial twrp backup happen whilst I still have a lock screen pattern / finger print or does this cause issues if I choose to restore later?
2) I see that there are some ~60MB firmware files from https://sourceforge.net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/15.1/cheeseburger/firmware/ (e.g. firmware_OP5_O2_Open_8_oneplus5.zip) do I need to do anything with these if I'm having OOS upgrade to the latest 5.0.4 (That is Oreo 8.0 but LineageOS is 8.1)? I've not seen any real info on the different firmwares (rather than the OOS changelog).
3) If I want to restore the initial TWRP backup of OOS4.5.15, could I do this after installing LineageOS or is there something else that needs to be done first (as I can't just install Oreo without re-locking the bootloader etc).
4) Is my upgrade process correct, or have I missed something?
Many thanks!

Need persist.img

Hi everybody.
I've been in possession of an European LG G6 (H870) for quite 2 years as of now.
2 days ago i decided to install the unofficial build of lineageOs 17.1. Everything went smoothly with the install but then I realized that all sensors had stopped working. During the last 48 hours I've tried everything I could to fix the problem, spacing to reflashing stock Android Pie, to downgrading etc...
Now I noticed that the persist partition on my device (where the sensors data are stored) is completely empty.
So I'm asking if anyone in possession of root or a custom recovery could upload a copy of his working persist.img in order to flash it on my device.
Thank you all in anticipation for the support.
When you are coming back from Custom ROM to Stock. You need to flash Nougat first. Then you can flash Oreo, Pie or smth else
I've already downgraded to nougat and flashed pie back, but persist is still empty.
So again I'm asking for a working .img, even just to check its content.
The procedure is the following:
In custom recovery or in the terminal if you have root, just type "dd if=/dev/block/sda13 of=/sdcard/persist.img", then pull it via adb or with file explorer.
Thanks again.
