Just recently flashed Resurrection Remix 6.0 32-bit and I've noticed that, after all my Google contacts are synced, all of my contacts' picture are very low resolution. Even after trying to update contact pictures using Sync.me, none of them are being updated to high resolution.
Anyone else having this issue?

That's a common problem and happened to me too when switching devices etc. The contact pictures are not grabbed from the local full res picture every time you open the contact.
If you change your device and sync contacts you'll see that too.
Even when exporting your contacts to .vcf file there are the original pictures included, in low resolution only! That's how it works.
If you need high resolution, you need to edit the contact and link the high resolution picture again, but it's synced, only local

Hi all, just wondering if there is a fix for this?
I sync all my facebook contacts with my google ones, but whenever I get a call it always shows a horrible low res picture instead of the high-res one that SHOULD be there.
Is there any app (non-rooted phone here) or fix that can remedy this?
..that´s a good question, would like to know that too...
This happens to me as well
Yeah..Wat up wit dat?
Unfortunately, I think this has to do with how much google compresses the pictures. It happens on my iPhone and on the TP2 I recently sold. Really wish google would fix this.
I was told that no matter what picture you take, it wil resize it to a specifc resolution, then uploaded and synced with your google contacts online. Thats why when you do a restore, your contacts + pictures will automatically be resized per "google" standards...
I have done some searching but was not able to find any answers. I have been using Android pretty much exclusively these days. I noticed that when I sync my contacts with my Facebook account it adds pictures to the contacts, just like windows mobile. The difference though is that on Windows mobile the pictures are nice and clear. On Android the pictures look very low res and very blurry. It seems like it is using the same picture on the little thumbnail on the as it is on the picture during a phone call.
Does anybody have any thoughts on how to fix this?
Thanks!
bump
same issue here
yep..
I am disapointed with contact pics 2
very low res..
Same here for disappointment with contact pics resolution, I'm not Facebook sync'ing but selected the contact photo's using the gallery app. I'm sure they were good quality when I first set them, but on reboot they are much lower quality.
I was thinking this was an issue with the way we're running Android, via the SD? Can't think why, but I don't believe this could be a generic Android issue (surely).
I got this exact same question this morning.
Use friend stream that's Included on htc sense.
I believe the pictures are actually better.

Still no answer? I believe the issue still exists. My profile pics are low res. On WM6.5 and WindowsPhone the pics are high-res and very nice.
Any thoughts?
There is an app called sync my pics it is on the market download it and sync your contact pictures on wifi..
This has probatly to do with the Exchange protocol, and how Google uises it. This is for WP7, but should also work for Android... At least; the second part;
1. Log into your Google account
2. Settings --> General (1st tab)
3. Under "Contacts' pictures" select "Only show pictures that I've chosen for my contacts"
4. Save, exit

With NAND Desire HD build i got same problems...
but now i use mdj cyanogenmod 2.4 and pro launcher but i dont see facebook pictures from my contacts in the "person" widget from pro launcher?? What to do?
Bump. This issue is intolerable. I would like to link my phone contacts to FB and Gmail, but still be able to use my high-resolution photos of them. They get overwritten every time by either FB or Google.
There has to be a fix somewhere, I'll keep looking.
???
if anyone finds a fix...please post !

I use the Full Screen Called ID App. works wonders, if u dont want full screen images to show when people call, just disable its appearance in the option settings. you can set it to use that contacts facebook display pic as their contact picture, although for people that ring often, I set a preffered picture of choice
Hey!
I get many of my contact pictures from Facebook via SyncMyPix or I just use photos Iäve taken with the camera.
First, the quality of the photos are great, top notch an everything, BUT, I sync my contacts with Google and it looks like Google makes my contactphotos look like ****e when they get synced...
Is there any way to leave out photosync or something? I want my contact pictures to look good ;(

this happens because google saves the contact image in a smaller size to use less space, and no matter what's the resolution on the display pic, after restoring the contacts from google, you'll end up with those crappy images.
the only solution i have found to be working is, you need to sync your contacts with facebook and Facebook with HTC Sense, both and then use the display image that's synced with Facebook with HTC Sense
Here's How : After syncing your contacts, when you edit your contact, Tap on the display image and set the one that's from Facebook with HTC Sense. This displays the image in its proper resolution.
hope this helps.
If I use pics from my phone, I just click edit and click on the pic and choose phone.this will make the pic look great.the first time you sync it might change so do the same steps I mentioned above and you'll get great pics for your contacts

UPDATE: I got excited too early thinking the problem is fixed. It's just the google sync took too long. So, we still have to use magnifying glasses to view the tiny useless image for caller id picture.
One of my favorite feature on SE android phones is how uniquely it displays contact image while dialing or incoming call. That got messed up in previous update.
Now, it looks fine and the google image is not over writing the image selected on phone.
I've still got the problem in 2.3.4, in case the phone book is sync with Google contacts.
How to fix the problem??

The problem is still present in this update.
Tried using high res pics for my contacts.
Auto sync to Google contacts is enabled.
Viewed my contacts after the sync and picture size returned to low resolution.
Now I removed the check mark on "Sync Contacts" for a temporary solution and backed up the contacts on my desktop.
Sigh.
In my current 2.3.3 fw, the contact pictures do not have this problem if you go into album, select a picture, click on options and set it as caller image. However, if you go into your contact list and change the caller image by editing contact info, this problem comes up. Either way it's still too much hassle setting caller image for every contact in the phonebook. I'll bear with the tiny photo sync-ed with Facebook for now.

I waited for more than a minute and the high res image stayed. Must be some slow sync at that time. You are right it doesn't work even if you set contact picture form gallery instead of setting from Contacts - Edit.

If that worked in 2.3.3, it doesn't any more in 2.3.4.
I have solved this by adding the contact person manually as internal contact and not google contact. If you give it the same name it will automatically be linked to the google contact, you do not have to add any phone numbers, just an empty contact with the same name. This contact will have priority over the google contact and added highres pictures to the internal contact will be used instead of the small google/facebook contact.
I can see some reason to this, if you have 1MB pictures on over 100 contacts and you sync them all, that will cost allot for those who do not have unlimited data. Many users are not technically enough to be aware of this when setting up their new phone with a google contact, this could lead to allot of unhappy customers/users with huge bills just by synchonizing their contacts.
The other issue would be the huge cost of internal memory having 100MB consumed just to store high res pictures for 100+ contacts and time it might take to synchronize.
It might take some time to do this manually but once done the pictures will stay for the contacts. I do not mind this workaround to have high res pictures, but can see it might be a big hassle for those few how often reset their phones and would have to set everything up again and again.
Do any of you know where the contact pictures are stored? I would think the internal memory but I am not sure, I am only using high res pictures on a few of my contacts.
Use Sony sync for contacts and your images will remain the same.

Don't worry this firmware is just a middle version the "full" version will come in october till november so there is still a chance to fix :]
anyone else spotted anything else exept contacts?
This problem is back in the ICS(at least the Arconium 2.2 ICS) The callerID is ok if I use facebook contacs sync app from play store. But the main Sheet of contact info is different. It only has this cmall little useless picture on the top left. I want the faded almost full screen like picture back. Any ideas?
this isn't a bug with the sony firmware it is a google contacts sync problem there is a bug filed on it in the google code group but after 10 min of searching i couldn't find it
Pvy.
Hi Guys,
I sold my S4 and now I own this powerful device since one week. But there is a problem for which I did not find a solution yet. I have high res contact pics in my google account but the G2 does only sync low res pics which makes me sick. I searched for a solution but did not find any. Does someone also have this problem? On my S4 everything was fine with the pics.
Thanks!
I think the only way is to 're do the pictures

I already tried this... using a new high res pic for a contact (on gmail)... but g2 syncs the pixel variant....
I can't figure this out either. Some contacts it seems to use a higher res than others regardless of the source image. Something wierd going on there.

this has to do with gmails api supporting low res pictures only.
The res was increased somewhere in Android but not in gmail that results in this phenomenon when resyncing.
A workaround is haxsync that can replace the pictures on the phone with another source such as facebook
Android supporting high res but gmail yet to catch up?
Something strange is going on here.. this gotta be raised to Google methinks..
Not really a g2 problem, but general android issue. Google contracts used to only accept low res pics and you probably pushed those to your address book at some point. To get high res pics back, you are either manually have to go through and redo the pics, or you can use something like hacksync. It'll pull the facebook profile pics in high res and has the option to push those to your google address book,
This is a general android issue and it will happen with any non nexus phone. If you set a high res pic as a Google contact's pic,it will sync to all your devices as a low res 96x96 pic. It only syncs the high quality one across nexus devices (as far as i know , coming from a nexus 4 after using many samsung devices and now the g2). Minor or major issue depending on the person. For me i can live with it but i prefer the nexus way
I haven't yet tried it on this device, but HD Contacts was a good workaround for this on the last couple devices I had this issue on: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jgarrison.hdcontacts
I can't recall where I read this, but I think this issue is resolved across the board in 4.3 as well.

It's really weird, all the contacts on my phone that I had starred were all in high quality, I never realized this until you mentioned your fix.
However, when I tried to star contacts and then delete cache/data in the contacts app, it didn't seem to change anything.
EDIT: IT WORKS!
Missed one step...
1) Star Contacts
2) Settings > Sync (this is the step that helped me ensure all contacts will sync with high-res photos).
3) Clear Cache/Data in Contacts App (I also cleared Contacts Data App)
4) Sync all your contacts back in and you got your high quality pictures
EDIT EDIT:
Make sure you clear cache/data in both Contacts App and Contacts Data. When I only cleared Contacts App, half the photos were still low-res.
When I cleared both apps and then synced, all photos were high quality.

Sorry if I was unclear, so if I go into Phone > Contacts > Settings (this is where you click "Sync Now") to make sure everything is synced before deleting all contacts data.
Is there a way to "Star" all contacts in one action?

I have noticed the same problem. Is there a solution other than getting images from Facebook or starring every single contact and clearing cache (that would drive me crazy)?
On my Galaxy Nexus using the standard contacts app all contact images are first low res after a new set up but after opening a contact for the first time the high res image is loaded.
On my G2 only the starred contacts have a high res picture while all others are low res.
Can I somehow install the AOSP contacts app to let it load the pictures or is there another work around?
