Hello. After the Oreo update and losing ability to set individual notification sound, I switched my default messaging app. Since doing so I constantly get a notification/invite to set the native Samsung messaging app as my default. Does anybody know of a way to get this to stop? Just about every time I wake up the phone it pops up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I've just switched over from a blackberry, and I absolutely LOVE this phone. However my main pet-peeve (other than the battery) is the lack of per contact SMS sounds. I get SMS notifications when one of my servers at work has an issue and basically need to be able to override vibrate settings as well as a custom sound from this particular contact. I was curious if there was anything like this available.
Thanks in advance.
Look for SMSPopUp in the Market. I believe it allows you to set individual notification tones.
you could also try handcent or chompsms, they all allow this. Just make sure you turn off notification in the default app or you'll be getting double notifications.
This is great! Thank you.
Best of all its open source, so I can add the features im missing, such as overriding silent/vibrate (if at all possible)
Ok, this is my first Droid phone, so I'm still trying to figure it all out.
My default text message app is driving me crazy. It randomly decides to scroll up and down when it feels like it.
So, I've installed ChompSPS to use as my messaging app. No more random scrolling, so I'm happy.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to disable the default service notification.
I've been through settings -> sounds -> notifications but all I can find is a setting to change my ringtone for everything, and I can't find a general page for notifications.
So, how do I disable the default text message notifications?
i have some friends that used Handcent SMS on different phones and ran into the duplicate notification problem as well. i guess this post doesn't help much since i have no solution to offer, but just so you know, you're not the only one who's had trouble with this.

Click to collapse
Go into the stock messaging app settings and turn off notifications there.
Thanks

The solution is often simple, isn't it?
Thanks.
Also, fyi: this is an android phone. Not a Droid phone. Droid is a line of phones in the same since that Galaxy S is a line of phones. Android is the operating system that runs all these phones.
And the other user is correct. Change setting in the OEM messaging app to keep from having duplicate notifications.

Hi. My MT4G is rooted and unlocked, running gingerbread 2.3.3. My problem is that I have no email notification sound, although it is set to alert me. I am using the stock email client, and would really like to stick with that due to the integration with contacts and faves. I have tried every angle I could think of: global settings, email settings, my modes, etc. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Many thanks.
Same issue
What happened to the option to set the email notification sound? Right now it defaults to using 'Alpha' as the alert. However, I didn't even set 'Alpha' as the system notification sound either.
Hi guys, tried searching the exisiting threads and read the help forum, but cant fina an naswer to my problem.
I downloaded and installed the jellybean messaging app for my S4 i9505 as I prefer this messager to the default Samsung one. But every time a message comes through I get two icons, two sound and two notifications for every message, So i uninstalled the default app thinking it just a shortcut to the messaging system and now no messages are coming through. I can still access my messages through the jellybean app.
Does anyone know hoe to recover the default messaging app?
Thanks
Actually would removing the default messaging app actually cause my phone to totally stop sending and receiving sms messages?
ok guys, so turns out it had just been disabled and appears way down at the bottom of the all apps section of application manager
So you can just re-enable it there. Although not sure if my sms is still working if not its obviously a network issue
This problem might go beyond the G2 itself, but I'm hoping someone has an answer. I want my phone to vibrate when things like emails or text messages come in, so I have vibrate enabled in the overall LG UI settings menu.
I do not want my phone to vibrate every single time I get a message on Google Hangouts, although I do want a notification in my top bar. I have notifications on in the hangout settings and vibrate disabled, but it seems that the overall UI vibrate on notification setting is overriding the application preference and making it vibrate anyways.
Anyone know what the best way is to handle this? Do I need to disable the overall setting and only enable it in certain apps? Or will the overall disable override everything too and then I won't get any notifications?
I have this exact same problem. Did you ever figure out a solution
