Greetings,
Just one question about the system size of a fresh install of Oreo.
When a phone came out of the box, it had Nougat on it. Even with the latest Nougat update(DEC 2017), a stock system without adding any apps of mine, need roughly 7.87 GB for the whole system.
When Oreo is installed, it need about 10GB of space for the system.
Why Oreo needs 2GB more space? Nougat's and Oreo's fastboot install .tgz files are almost similar in size(1.4 GB).
So why Oreo needs more space, what's the +2GB increase what took from the available free storage??

Ok, so for once I have a stock, unrooted phone, AT&T S5. Ever since the last firmware upgrade I've been getting a lot of storage issues, so I started looking at things and none of it makes sense to me. I use an sdcard for just about everything, but this is how the storage breaks down at the moment on the internal storage :
16gb total
11.5 gb in 'internal storage' - meaning, as I understand, 4.5gb of OS partitions
This is where things get squirrely
1.28 gb of used user files
1.5gb free
0 gb cache (i just emptied it.)
So, about 8+gb are in unnamed 'system, but not os' files. Wtf??
The way I read this it I have 3gb of usable space - shared with cache (that within days goes to 1.5gb+) on a 16gb phone. Meanwhile, I went through and moved just about anything of size to sdcard. I have a fair number of apps, but not an extreme amount and nothing that unusual.
So, is this normal? And is there a way to figure out what is stealing that 8+gb of space without root and maybe remove it??
Part of me suspects it is some non-cache temp files - esp firmware updates (there have been a few, and they are large, and things seem to get worse after each firmware push.
Thanks,
My XT1575 shows a System Rom size of 4.16 GB with 2.04 GB free after a fresh flash of Moto's stock Rom.
Seeing as I opted for the 16 GB X (albeit with a 64 GB SD card) that doesn't leave a lot of room on the actual internal memory.
Is that right? Why is there more than 2 GB just sitting there that I can't use? Even after updating all the Google/system apps that free space in the system rom doesn't change.
I came from a N6 where there was only 30 MB free in the system partition, so this seems a bit extreme.
Is there a reason for the huge chunk of unusable space? Can I adjust it?
Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated.
In titainium backup, it shows 150mb free of 2.60 gb in system rom.
I've just rooted the stock oxygen os 3.1.0.
Is it because stock 3.1.0 file zip is 1.1gb big?
Or is it because of the google apps?
Also, how should I clean stuff for more space?
I feel the nandroid backup I've created (2.5gb) is in the system partition but this makes no sense.
Also, installing Xposed modules and other apps, will they consume this System rom space or not?
Is 150mb more than enough and normal or will I need or space?
I've got a lot of space in Internal memory, around 46 gb.

You could use a debloat zip but it won't change the fact all apps that were system will use the data space... If save space is your thing integrate updates to system

It's oxygen os that takes the space don't worry it's normal
Hello. Is it possible to clear or reduce the storage consumed by the firmware portion on this phone? I find it hard to believe that the OS+EMUI 5.0 is eating up more than 6gb of storage space on this phone (I have a Note3 on custom ROM that eats up less than that). I get that only about 12gb is usable on a 16gb drive, but half of that just for fimrware?
By clearing up the firmware, I mean could there be some files within the firmware section that aren't necessary anymore and can be safely deleted without damage to the system, like residual installation files on a desktop or something?
TIA for the answers.
Hi friends, just this morning I clean flashed xiaomi.eu ROM in my lavender 32gb version. I wiped everything even the internal storage for a smooth start. After the boot I checked to see how much storage we actually get and it was just 20 GB out of 32 GB. 6-7 GB for system is understandable but 12 GB reserved for system seems too much... Is there any way to access that unusable storage?? Or can we decrease that reserved storage?
System use 12gb, is normal there's nothing to do, it's not android 4
It's a heavily modified aosp code,i recommend convert to other aosp roms.
