I already have the volume steps module but it would be great if there is a module that lowers the volume by 0.5x on every volume step or just on the lowest step. It's way too loud.
If someone who messes with these scripts sees this, at least tell me what I need to mess with and I'll make it myself, I just don't have enough time to do a full research.
The easiest way would be just to add more volume steps..?

Do you think holding a volume up for 5 seconds when I'm watching yt video to change the volume a little bit is optimal solution? This thing is my daily driver, I use it 6hrs a day. No PC.

I'm all systemless atm, I don't know where that xml falls but I would need to mess with it through Magisk and I don't wanna dedicate time to that atm. I'll have it in mind though if it becomes too frustrating, tnx.

Volume for audio stream is completely different than volume for call audio stream. I have 40 volume steps for music/videos and 14 for call. Audio level is remembered by system automatically and separately for each. I never had to hold my volume button for 5secs..

You can increase the gain in mixer_paths.xml, but not decrease it. Many of us would love to do that to fix the hissing noise, but so far no one was able to.

I believe you can. I recall that when I tested which value actually controlled the volume for my MIUI device, I changed all the known values to 0 to figure until I found which one it was. It actually disabled all audio for me so in theory, it should work. I haven't experienced hissing. Is this in call or media volume?

There you go. I think this value just allows more fine tuning to the volume, not reducing the sound level that the device produces. I mean theoretically, more steps means a setting will be available for lower volumes so there's that I guess.

I was playing with headphones part in mixer_path and even when I set gain/volume to "1" from stock "10 or 20" (don't remember exactly), it didn't do anything. Volume was still damn loud and along with it also hissing. Hissing is present with lower impedance headphones and also on loud speaker. If you don't have/hear it, be happy

Ah. I've barely used the 3.5mm jack on my device apart from a few times while playing so that's probably why I haven't noticed it yet.

Does anyone else have problems with sound going up and down randomly on the PowerAmp music player (to the point where listening to music there is almost like a torture)? All other players work great for me (Exynos N910C).
Should I bring my phone to warranty repair?
Sorry , my english grammar is not good.
You don't stick " direct volume control" ( advanced tweaks in settings ).
Limit will reduce audio output to keep it within a safe threshold, no way round this besides turning it off.

How can it be that such an amazing phone does not support direct volume control while my old Xperia S does?

It's not the phone mate, i've had the same thing on a HTC One and a galaxy S5, i believe the S3 had the same thing too.
If you turn off limit in the eq section of poweramp then you can adjust audio yourself, however you will lose the dynamic limiting, personally i leave it on, there could be a section in the settings section but i've never ventured in there to check it out, there could be a limiting strength slider, if it were me i'd lower everything, turn off limit, find a generic song with high bass and adjust for best audio then see how you go highering your eq from there.

Ok so the reason why it's not the phone is because as you've already said, other players don't seem to have this issue.
As a test, turn off the EQ, turn off the limiter on the EQ, then try to play something back.
Also check priority mode on power amp too.
Trust me it's the player not the phone, the very fact that other players don't have this issue should tell you that.

Unticking Equ and Limit doesn't help. As for priority mode, I can't find where I can check it.
The settings of PowerAmp are always the same right after you download it no matter what phone you're using, and most other phones don't have this problem, so how could this not be the phone or the specific version of TouchWiz N910C has?
Power amp has massive problems. Run it and look at the log cat. Memory leaks and it's ram footprint is enormous.

Note 4*. I downloaded it on the same day on both devices, so the versions can't be different.
I posted this concern on reddit some time ago and none of the people there had complaints and replied saying that the sound was perfectly fine.
Check it yourself too and I think it'll work unless this is a problem for all N910C users but I haven't heard of that complaint so far so it doesn't seem to be the case.
I've been using this phone for at least 2 months and during this entire time the problem has always been there.
The problems disappear when I turn off direct volume control, which is said to only be supported by some devices/ROMs, but it's weird if this beast can't support this little thing my old other phone can.
I got my OP2 4 days back and it has been quite a disappointment switching from the OnePlus One in terms of sound quality and volume levels.
The volume level is horrendous, both for ringtones/notifications and media. I'm sure this will eventually be solved by a kernel or a OS update but as of now, even if I am with a group of friends and the phone is in my pocket, I can't hear the ringtone. Moreover, there is no option to unlink ringtone and notifications.
Before anyone suggests, my volume levels are highest.
J.
It is true. Volume is too low. For me it is not a problem because I'm almost always on silent mode. Anyway there is one volume thing which is also broken...
When playing games it does not make a visible difference if the volume is on the highest lvl or almost muted. There is a difference, but IMO speaker is to loud when You set it's level as lowest as possible -_- (but not entirely, not to mute)
You think the same ?
It is a problem for me as I go to crowded places often.
I don't play games but I listen to a lot of music and apart from the volume levels, the sound quality is also very bad. Spotify sounds like a radio channel being broadcast from a garage.
I don't have the issue of speaker being too loud like you have. But OnePlus needs to up their game. Maybe they should concentrate on these issues instead of creating hype around an invite system.

Go into the app Audio Tuner and toggle it off. You can also toggle it off directly when playing media on the speaker, just press either of the volume buttons and look for the "AudioEffects" toggle.
No kidding. I got mine yesterday and it's so quiet that I'm concerned whether the alarms will wake me up; I'm a very heavy sleeper. I was just trying to listen to something on TuneIn which was quite audible on my OPO and I was straining to hear.
Go into audio tuner> turn the preset to "flat".. turn maxxbass off... turn maxxspace off...
Just done what omegablaze said but increased max dialog to max and my volume went up through headphones but not really seeing a difference though the phone. I was wondering if the are any custom flashes out there like extreme beats + viper4android that I have just seen on YouTube. U see I'm new to flashing and root etc so any help would be great because it's very hard to hear any calls that come though

well as per what i have researched there are many people who are facing this issue. Furthermore i have 2 other phones lumia 1520 and a motox and they both are very loud compared to one plus two. i have compared the same notification tones on all three phones and the lumia 1520 is the loudest whereas one plus is the quitest. In a noisy environment you dont come to know that it is ringing especially while riding a thumping motorbike.
My advice based on what I'm currently doing is to buy some nice headphones. The ones I'm using are Sony MDR-10RC they really compliment each other in looks and if you play with the audio settings it equals very nice sound. But if it's a case of you are not hearing you phone when its ringing just download zedge and search (loud ring tone). Yes I'm not a fan of oneplus 2 stock speakers but I hope this helps you out.

Guys, what about increase the volume of the headset or the headphones for listen to music louder? I saw the file, but I couldn't guess which value to change.
Same problem. Too low during Call, and loudspeaker during call. Notifications and ring tones too low too.
Headphones are fine though.

He's using his Tab A in car. It is his radio. And the volume only has 15 Steps, which is kinda steep, one step to another can be super loud. So giving it 30 steps instead of 15 steps, you can finely tune the audio level.
Something you might not have thought about doing is a Pot. AKA Volume Knob. you can find premade ones online that have RCA Input and output, and you use it to manually turn up and down the levels in the rca cables. That way you can keep the volume at max on the tablet, and turn a volume knob. I used to have one till I designed my own Media Soft Keys on my TabS
Hey guys, is there a way to customize the volume steps when using the Vol+/- keys? I am using bluetooth headset and the increase per volume + step is way to big, and from 0 (being muted) to +3 is fine, the next step is already way to much, I would like to customize how much of an increase I get when using the volume buttons.
Is that possible without root?
thanks for the help,
cheers
I've had that same issue with my BT speaker, Android N seems to link the volume sliders of the phone and the actual speaker.
Luckily you don't need root to turn this off:
Go to the Developer settings and enable ""Disable max volume", then you're able to have separate volume levels on your smartphone and speaker again.
Cheers

Haven't tried it with bluetooth yet but it should work. This app overrides the default 15 click volume control on android and gives you up to 100 click increments for more fine tuned volume control. Best part is you don't need root.

Found the option! Thanks a lot.
I find that using PowerAmp's Bluetooth setting for "Direct Volume Control" works better than stock since then it adjusts the actual volume of the Bluetooth device rather than the system's output volume.
You have no idea how long i was looking for this solution ("disable max volume").
A thousand thanks!

Xperia z3
Android 6.0.1
Thank you very much. It worked on my Xiaomi mi9
Disabling absolute volume in developer settings was really helpful for me. I had a problem with my s20 Ultra because when using bluetooth earphones the volume steps were too big and there were too consecutive steps where the volume was either too quiet or too loud. Now I can control the volume in a finer way.
Headphones and AUX isn't getting loud enough. In the car I must blast full volume to even to get a decent sound but it won't ever get loud! It sucks! Is there a way to fix this?
There's a magisk module that increases the max volume for aux/bluetooth playback. Pretty sure it's just a build.prop setting, so would need root at the very least. Otherwise there are alternative 'sound processors' like viper4android which exist as magisk or xposed modules, that allow further tweaking for gain and loudness.

I will give you the app that allows you to have great sound, with extreme volume. You must flash this with TWRP or a custom recovery
Download the Dolby Atmos zip here
When you open the app turn on Volume Leveler, you will see the difference
Otherwise if you don't have a custom recovery there is a couple app on the play store that will help you out but I find alot of distortion in the music with these apps activated

Cmon... don't post direct downloads on xda - link to the project page. Developers put a lot of work into what they give us for free, the least you can do is point users to a thread where they can see what they are downloading as well as look for support when things go wrong. You arent helping out anyone when you just blindly say 'download and flash this' - best case scenario you get inundatedwith countless pm's, worst case you help some idiot break their phone.
---------- Post added at 04:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:41 AM ----------
To the OP, a side note.. every time you plug in an aux cord or headset, android automatically lowers its media volume to a 'safe level'. So every time you plug it in, you will need to manually increase the volume after acknowledging a warning about that very same thing. Can't be avoided without hacking a change, either via an xposed module like gravity box or a custom rom.
That said, the media volume/impedance leaves much to be desired.. which is why many turn to atmos or viper4android, which level out volumes and add gain - they butcher the actual audio quality, at the expense of increased perceived loudness. But lets be honest - very few that care about loudness worry about fidelity (I'm one of the few)

Beware that your notification volume may be higher than what you are expecting with notification volume set to the lowest audible level when Dolby Atmos is on/enabled. Fortunately Dolby Atmos has an off switch. And watch out if you turn the Volume Leveler on
Edit: Oh and call volume is tweaked with the "Volume Leveler" so be careful!!!
I would avoid turning Volume Leveler on until first observing the effects on volumes with just Dolby Atmos on, then test with Surround Virtualizer on, then with Dialogue Enhancer on. Only turn Volume Leveler on if you don't get enough volume with the other settings on.
