compared to the z3compact it can get a lot louder. it sounds more full, like you are listening with your headphones in. tested with a youtube video called: music sound test for high end system hd version. but the bass is lacking (but then again it is a phone)

The speakers are good but I want to address the headphone socket controversy. I was unhappy about losing the headphone socket but since using it, the dongle hasn't been an issue for me anymore. its tiny and easy to forget its there when listening to music. I get some good bass from both speakerphone and the earbuds and being more of a music listener than a gamer or movie watcher,, sound quality is a big deal for me.
So give this video a listen and tell me what you all think of the sound from both the speakers and using the dongle and earbuds. i'd like to hear everyone's opinion.

The speaker quality with music is ok, nothing great. BUT the quality when using speakerphone during a call is horrible. It's like someone turned the bass all the way down and the treble all the way up. Sounds hollow and tinny and crackles. Not sure if it's my particular unit or a software issue. Unfortunately the equalizer in the sound settings only has any effect for music and not for calls.

Problem during call
I'm having a problem with my phone. When i make call using earphones and then during call when i remove it then speakers of the phone doesn't work for 5 to 6 seconds. I was not able to hear the person on the call. Is it just with my phone or anyone else is facing same problem.
While it can get quite loud it's only a mono speaker with slight distortion on max volume. Considering the price its above average but nothing amazing.

Agree with you.
I use RE Equalizer to improve the quality of the external speaker. It's quite better, works with musical players, video players, YouTube etc.., and no need to root.

its fine for calls, but pales in comparison to an iPhone. They really should have gone with a side firing and earpiece loudspeaker for stereo effect.
Great for BT with AptXHD quality coming through my Sony WI1000X in ear BT headphones
This has one of the worst speakers for music I have heard in a long time on a phone. Very loud and good lows for spoken news or voice calls, but when the opening music of a game that I play everyday plays, since I have heard it so many times through other phones, it was definitely noticeable how poorly sounding it was. Stereo would have definitely helped. Since it is so muffled to begin with, when holding vertical with one hand it is often being blocked as well. Pixel 2, iPhone X, and S8 were my others to compare with.

Sounds is more on the tinny side. Too much treble and it sounds distorted at high volumes like something is vibrating. The bass is basically non existent. Clarity is very good especially on phone calls and just for voice chatting but for music or media it's sub par. Honestly I'll be keeping my z3 and using that whenever possible. Because I use my phone a lot for media consumption
Motorola One Zoom loudness isn't that great, I've heard louder phones before. After rooting with Magisk Manager, and also installing Viper4Android FX, my speaker quality increased by +/- 22% and my headset by about the same, I've yet to test connected to Bluetooth speakers.
Also I haven't yet tried Dolby Atmos so will see if that's even louder than Viper4Android ??

sucked with the DTS setting on, better without.
while in a call you can pressw the volume up and select boost, that helps a lot...
as someone whos on the phone a lot (business owner) I usually carry a bluetooth earpiece, that works great,
It could be louder both for calls and video playback.

It's true that the DTS for the speaker have a live effect who is not quite good. But, DTS and Quad DAC are good both with a good headset.
The loudness is... satisfactory, but not exceptional. Clarity is atrocious. Sounds is flat, uninspiring, and completely lacking anything beside human speech range. Low trebles are overpronounced, highs are quiet, and bass is completely non-existent. In-call quality is surprisingly good, but turn on loudspeaker and ears bleed.
LG V30 has MUCH BETTER speakers, both for media consumption and calls.

Like to know too. How's the earpiece volume, i mean can you hear a soft speaking sound when you put the phone 50cm in front of you?
It's pretty good in my opinion, my ears are not very good so I can't really tell the audio quality that well but it's plenty good at its price point. Gets loud enough to fill a room and doesn't get tinny even if you turn it all the way up as far as I can hear. Besides the fact that it's easy to cover since there's only one port it's good enough if you're not an audiophile.
Can confirm audio is excellent. Even with Galaxy Earbuds Plus!
Definitely a big upgrade from my Oneplus 3!
It's louder and sounds better.
Can't say something about the earpiece, because I didn't use it a lot
Using it to call other people or checking some Youtube, it's really loud en pretty clear. Distortion is from the speaker itself is at normal volume OK. At higher volumes it is a bit worse.
Good to know, the whole phone acts like a soundbox. So it sound like it has Stereo, but hasn't. Because of this the whole phone vibrates.
