Hi all,
I'm really hoping someone can help.
This morning I applied the stock Google 4.2 (JOP40C) update from Google's factory images page using the supplied flash-all.sh script. The tablet applied the update, rebooted - and then I saw an error message saying an app had crashed, I believe it was the launcher but basically ignored it, and after pressing "okay" a few times I just held the power button until the power off dialog came up and I turned the tablet off.
Now it won't turn back on. I've tried the long-press method (I've tried 30 seconds, 1 minute, whilst plugged in to the mains, whilst plugged in to USB, volume up/down buttons held and not held) but so far it's as dead as a can of spam. I gave it a two hour charge on a wall charger, still no difference.
When attempting a stock flash / debrick via fastboot, fastboot just says "waiting for device" and waits forever. That's the same on Windows and on Linux, both systems usually work fine with ADB and fastboot.
When connected via USB to my Ubuntu PC, dmesg says:
Code:
[15660.333585] usb 3-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[15665.328725] xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.0: Timeout while waiting for address device command

[15746.080986] usb 3-1: ep 0x1 - rounding interval to 32768 microframes, ep desc says 0 microframes
When attached via USB to my Windows PC, which usually works with Android / fastboot / APX devices just fine, I see an "unknown device" appear, with the status of:
Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Now I'm guessing it's dead and time to call Asus, but I wanted to check first. I went to back to the PC World store I bought it from and they say because it's a month old it's not their problem (over 21 days since purchase) so it has to go back to Asus.
Can anyone give any advice? Is there a way of re-flashing the bootloader some how without the need for fastboot? Is there something like nvflash for the N7 (I've seen this mentioned before here but it didn't seem to lead anywhere). Given that I can't get it to respond to fastboot nor ADB and as the screen never comes on I guess it's dead, but I'd welcome any hints before I call Asus - thanks in advance! :good:
First of all - this is works only if you bricked on firmware <=1314.3.2.6.
So it don't works for "rollbacked 3.2.8(7)" bricks(
Sorry but need leak of newest version of flash programmer for higher sw.
I understand that there is not many people with this type of bricks but it is better that nothing=)
Of course you can try - you can not do worse=) I test this method on 13.3.2.3 and 13.3.2.4.
Apollo users should read post to the end before doing anything!
Manual in progress. Additions and comments are appreciated.

2. Install ./tools/MiPhone2015731.exe
2a. For x64 system you need disable drivers signature verification before installing. Google it.
3. Start and setup Miflash:
3a. Press 'Browse' and select folder "fw" from archive. Press OK.
3b. Press down arrow on this button, Press "Advanced" and fill fields with files in folder 'fw' by "Browse" :

4. Ok. Now you need put your device in QHSUSB Bulk - mode and install Drivers.
4a. Your device can be in this state already. Just connect it to PC.
4b. If you have working adb (who knows) - type "adb reboot oem-2" or "adb reboot emergency" in cmd (i suppose you know that is adb drivers and adb). This is reboot kindle into emergency mode Qdloader 9008.
4c. Your device is stucked at greylogo or bootlooping without adb access. You need fastboot cable. Reboot device with plugged fastboot-cable.
5. Navigate to device manager and check for new device named QHSUSB_BULK . Drivers will install automatically or you need install it manually from .\tools\QualcommDrv.
In device manager at COM-Ports section you must obtain HS-USB Qdloader 9008 (COMx) without exclamation!
6. Go to Miflash , press Refresh, you should see your com port and empty bar under "progress" section.
7. Press "Flash". You should see messages like "WriteFile position 0x00000000840000, size 131072"
8. If all gone successfully disconnect kindle from PC and reboot it by holding power+vol up.
8a. If unsuccessful - reboot device and start over. In this mode for reboot sometimes needs above 5 min holding of power button.
If you get "Opening port" after some loading - you probably have > 1314.3.2.6 fw version.
9. Grats. You are in TWRP. You could flash stock 1314.3.2.3 firmware renaming bin to zip. Do not forget to block OTA immediately!
10. BTW you aboot partition is 13.3.2.3 version so you can do procedure of unlock without downgrading to 13.3.2.3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/multi-platform-1-click-bootloader-t3241014
Apollo users !!! - you need to replace recovery.img and emmc_appsboot.mbn with these (rename twrp and aboot_vuln).
CREdits:
bournezhang - for leaked programmer.
FSmp - for testing at 13.3.2.4
For advanced users - this works with any unlocked devices too (aboot<= 13.2.3.2).
By filling "filename" at rawprogram0.xml you can flash any partition to your device. Big partition like system.img must be sparsed I assume and rawprogram0 need to correct.
Of course all of it could be done with dd or maybe with fastboot. But just FYI.
ps. Anyone who knows something about newest version of emmcbld.mbn or lab126 insiders =) feel free to send anonymous e-mail to 2457678atgmaildotcom. Thank you.

sorry,I don't have the newest version.
i think we can only get it from lab126 or amazon.
by the way, in factory ,they have to flash the device to a special mode, and then reflash all the system images.

there is no any difference, i use same protocol as Amazon. i can make fullflash instructions with system, cache, userdata, but I see no sense of this. just bigger download size - approx 2.5 GB.
With twrp you can flash what you want by yourself.
But most user's version is 4.5.2 or higher now .
Look forward this issue be solved.
really nice job
@FotixChiang , thanks. btw maybe "our friend" with that dev 4.1.1 firmare has this file for 4.x ?
I just followed your steps, but when I flashed the program failed. I then reset my device, but it no longer recognizes it as QHUSB BULK. All it says is "Unknown USB Device (Descriptor Request Failed)". Any ideas on how to get it back into QDLoader mode for another shot at flashing?
Hold power button long. Above 5 min sometimes. It always works.

Great job bro. About one year ago I was reading many posts on this forum to get enough information to unbrick my Kindle Fire HDX (stuck on grey logo). by reading most of the posts related to Kindle Fire HDX I found out that the only way to unbrick it was a FactoryCable/ FastbootCable. so I made a factory cable and got my Kindle be recognised by my PC as Qdloader 9008 or Qcomm HS-USB Bulk or something like that. but after that I did not know how to flash files on it so my KFHDX was taking rest till today
thanks to you that I am able to revive it now thanks again. I have a lot of usefull files and information including some interesting drivers which might help you create tools or find other methods to unbrick the KFHDX. if you need some help or files just drop me a message to my inbox. I will be checking it frequently thank you
it's really worked method!
I restored gray logo (QHUSB_BULK) 3rd HDX 8.9 Apollo. I have been waiting this for 2 years))
the only thing I have not load the firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/twrp-flashable-stock-images-t3194914 - it's not loaded
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...ent/rom-cm-12-unofficial-apollo-thor-t3050199 - it's work
BIG THX!
Thanks for response. I'll edit manual soon.

I congratulate you for your work and effort.
you are very good
need help.. I did the roll back, re-installed 4.5.2. 4.5.2 is now rooted. I followed the disable OTA instructions in the forum, (rename the file etc...)..
However that information may not be totally correct, because as soon as I connected to Wi Fi , kindle fire stated downloading 4.5.4. I shut the Wi Fi off, found another tutorial on disabling OTA updates. This one worked. However, I have a 100% downloaded update, and I'm fearful it will try to install itself. I need to know where to go with ES File Explorer to Delete this update file, so it does not install itself.
Thanks to all who can help.
why are you posted this here?
anyway, update file locates in /cache. need root to navigate there.
please do not offtop in this thread. thank you.

Third duplicate post in as many threads. Great way NOT to get noticed next time you need help.
I guess I should say thanks for the point in the right direction, but you coming across and telling me in different areas is not a way to get help. I posted in the wrong area to start with, and was told so. So thanks for the help.

Good evening: I have an Apollo HDX that is an continuous gray and yellow splash screen when booted.
I have no idea what OS version it is running since it has been a long while setting in my junk pile.
I also do not know the history of the HDX since I acquired the unit second hand.
It sounds like there is some hope for recovery?
Can someone point me in the right direction for getting this unit resurrected?
On my LINUX workstation I do not see any logging when plugged in using a standard USB cable:
However, when a Kindle fire HD factory cable (2012 HD Fastboot cable) is used to connect to the HDX, I receive this logging:

Is the factory cable mentioned in this post the same factory cable used on the 2012 Kindle Fire HD?
I have worked on hundreds of the 2012 HD fires but, don't do anything with the HDX devices since they can't be bootloader unlocked. However, I would like to bring the HDX back to life it is possible. The tools for the HDX I see in this and other posts are for windows I presume and not LINUX?
Any help and direction would be helpful:::

My LG K20 plus will not work and so I am trying to resorting to download mode, but the problem is that every computer fails to recognize it. I have done my research but I still cannot get it to work.
I've already done the following:
Tried different USB data cables
Tried using Windows 7 and Windows 10
Tried using USB2 and USB3 ports
Installed all kinds of drivers, including the official one.
No matter what mode it is on (recovery, download mode, just being turned on, etc.) Windows instantly tells me "USB Device Not Recognized" I'm just really lost and would really love to get my device back in working order.
If this can help anyone figure out my problem, here are the events:

I have been helping a friend to fix his Fire 8 HD 2018.
This device only boots into Diagnostic Mode with a table showing various values. Specifically
FATPSN = Invalid
Abnormal battery status = AUT
See attached image.
Any way out of this problem?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wrT31f-xhus-vtIP_BojSLgxv4mH4q41/view?usp=sharing
UPDATE: Problem solved. See Post #10.
I can't see the image
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wrT31f-xhus-vtIP_BojSLgxv4mH4q41/view?usp=sharing
Hope this image works.
Just guessing, Abnormal Battery Status = AUT could mean Abnormal Upper Temperature. This is because temperature shows 310.
Any view?
I have swap the battery and the problem still persists.
It is unlikely that both the original and replaced batteries are faulty simultanously.
Thus I would deduce that either the battery checking sensor (if any) is faulty or the firmware is corrupted.
Interestingly, the replacement battery still continues to be charged up while this device is connected to a USB charger.

Left the replacement battery to charge for a few hours.
Now battery status is back to normal. But the warning AUT still flashes as before. It can normal boot into this particular dignostic screen only as shown in the above attached image.
Powered it down and tried rebooting into fastboot mode. Voila! The tablet is now in fastboot mode waiting for further input from my computer.
I was thinking of flashing it with the latest FireOS 6.3.1.5 and then see how it goes. What adb command can I use? Is it "sudo adb sideload <image file name>"?
Please advise.
After playing with the device for awhile, here are my findings:
1. Press Power button to boot
It only boots into Diagnostic Mode (see image in Post#1)
2. Press Volume Up and Power buttons to boot
It boots into Recovery Mode and stay there for about 20 seconds.
Then automatically switches to Normal Boot.
Going back to the Diagnostic Mode screen (see image in Post #1)
3. Press Volume Up and Power buttons to boot
It boots into Fastboot Mode and stay there waiting indefinitely.
4. Tried to softbrick the device by following this thread by k4y0z for Fire karnak.
The terminal showed the following.
$ sudo ./bootrom-step.sh
[2020-06-15 10:55:09.828365] Waiting for bootrom

Is there anything to correct the Serial protocal mismatch above?
5. Tried to shorting contact and hard bricking the device by following this thread by k4y0z for Fire karnak.

I overlooked your question. Apologies!
I connected my Linux laptop to the device already booted up in Diagnostic Mode.
In a terminal on the laptop, lusbs showed the following:
$ lusbs
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 05c8:022a Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink) HP Webcam
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:b00b Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Bluetooth Radio

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver

I presume ID 1949:0230 Lab126, Inc. Fire is this Fire 8HD
What else I may try?
FINAL UPDATE:
Followed this thread to short the CLK contact and hard-brick the device after opening the back cover. The main trick is to use the sharp tips of a metallic tweezer to ensure the shorting is well performed. Otherwise, the script bootrom-step.sh simply stuck without further progress. Thus the bootloader of the device has been unlocked and TWRP has been installed successfully.
Now I have flashed Lineage OS 14.1 on this karnak device and it runs very smoothly. Problem solved in the end.
same problem on HD8(2017)
hello, I also meet this problem on my hd8 2017(we are not the same device ),my device stuck in diagnostic mode and the status shows AFT. I dont know how to boot to system .I have already tried adb reboot recovery and adb reboot system .but It didnt work .just reboot to diagnostic mode again!Have you solved the problem now?If you get a way ,please help me !thanks !:crying::crying:

Sorry for the extremely late reply. This "abnormal battery status" is normal, it's the same as the diags of the kindles, so you've lost money and time replacing your battery. Also, to keep this in the same reply, how did you or your friend got into diagnostics mode in the karnak? Because this firmware could be used to software downgrade kindles with OS 6.3.1.2+!!! No need to open the tab!!! Sadly no one asked you to extract the .bin of diags firmware, and I'm pretty sure you don't have it anymore. If you have any information please share, this is getting good.

Just noticed your comment to my old post.
That device which booted into diagnostics mode only was passed by a guy to me for fixing. I gathered he bought a lot of several pre-owned devices from eBay that also included this peculiar device. In the end, I could not boot it into FireOS. But I could unlock its bootloader, flash twrp recovery and installed LOS 14.1 on it. He was very happy about the somewhat unexpected outcome when I returned to him a fully working karnak running LOS 14.1. Needless to say, I did not extract the .bin of diags firmware. Sorry!
Hi,
A few days ago, my Fire HD10(2019) refused to power on, or rather it would show some life (amazon screen IIRC), but go no further. Now it doesn't even do that.
On a PC I can see whats its doing across USB. "Bus 002 Device 083: ID 0e8d:0003 MediaTek Inc. MT6227 phone" on usb for about 45 seconds, then it disconnects for maybe 20s, and then repeats. Now I take the 0e8d:0003 device to be the amazon bootloader - so looks to me like the bootloder works, but crashes hard and restarts as soon as it tries to start android. So looks like the box is bricked.
I've tried the various buttons to go into fastboot - no success. Neither "adb devices" nor "fastboot devices" can see the device. On first booting, the machine brings up a serial interface (USB ACM device), alas I've not been able to connect to this.
So what are my options of getting into the machine? If I can't access the bootloader via the serial interface, are there UART pins on the board? If so where? If I can access the bootloader, can I switch to fastboot mode, so I can reflash the android OS? Where is the best place to look for info like this?

It is actually the mediatek bootrom (your device can have mtk-su temp root access, if you downgrade). You must have one of the early release ones that have access to it. My guess there is something wrong with the preloader... While i can't pin it down, the information to reload is all in this thread...
New Fire HD10 2019 Bootless Root Method + Bootloader Unlock Brainstorming
There's a new Fire 10 coming out, with an Octacore processor, USB-C charging, and FireOS based on Pie: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/10/amazons-new-fire-hd-10-tablet-costs-149-and-charges-via-usb-c/ I most certainly don't need any more...

Yes it was an early device. Alas it connected to the web, and updated itself from 7.3.1.0 before I disabled most of the amazon processes. So the original mtk-su for 7.3.1.0 never worked on my machine. Alas can't use this any more - as can't get into android any more.
I'm up to page 30 of the thread you posted, alas nothing read so far has managed to get into the machine.
And first progress - bypass_utility version 1.4.2. can connect (when run as root) and gives:

It has been a long time. Maybe try disconnecting the battery, not sure if it is staying in bootrom mode.... I remember mine had to have the battery removed or it would try to goto the preloader (i think). I used the process to downgrade back to 7.3.1.0, but it was like a year ago.

Yes - mine stayed in 0e8d:0003 mode, when the device bricked itself - made no difference with battery on or off, always when through the same minute cycle, where the device would disconnect, then reboot.
Interesting after running the bypass utility - it has stayed up in the 0e8d:0003 mode - and hasn't rebooted.

it disabled the watchdog timer. From what is can see everything points to a potential wrong setup..

OK - using SP_Flash_Tool v5.2008 to attempt to flash maverick-downgrade-7.0_PR7310_940N and I get the error:

Disconnect!

So where do I get the authentication file from?

ah yes - that explains why it was rebooting. So guess I have to dig into [Errno 5] Input/Output Error.
Seems like only way I have into the tablet any more is the mediatek bootrom, but as the tablet is sick - if that doesn't work, then probably its permanently dead. E.g. even getting access to a uart wouldn't help.
You have to only do file by file.
5. bypass_utility run succes with message "Protection disabled"
6. Run SPFlash Tool and flash boot, recovery, vendor, system. Wait to finish
7. Hold power button 15s to power off (check Ports in Device Manager windows)
8. Hold volume up and power boot to recovery with triactangle icon
9. Hold power and tap volume up then choose reset factory
10. Reboot
Thanks Michajin - I'm obviously having problems with the bypass_utility, whilst it connects to the MediaTek bootrom, it is not able to disable protection - and test mode bombs out. I've taken this up on the bypass_utility thread:
xda bypass utility
