Because there is so little development in the lgg6? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello, why is there just some explanation why there is so little development of roms for LG G6? and what do you think about this situation?

Partly to do with the fact that only like two variants have their bootloader unlocked

What Rom?

I am a little confused as to what Roms are compatible with the H910 variant. Normally there is a separate thread for each carrier variant but the V20 forums are a little cluttered with every all carriers in the same forum. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and have root. Thanks in advance.

Are there any developers here that might be able to work on the LG V10?

Hello!
I know this is the LG V20 forum, but the LG V10 forum is practically dead and there are no developers for for the AT&T LG V10 Variant whatsoever.
What I wish to know is if there are any developers here that could replicate the success you guys had with getting root on the LG V20, and getting root on the LG V10 6.0? We have the KDZ for it by the way. Just no one knows how to actually unlock the bootloader. I don't know exactly how similar the devices are, but it would be greatly appreciated and I am sure there would be a bounty, many people have been wanting this.

Are there 8.* roms for the H872?

I'm a current owner of a G3 d851 looking to upgrade to a new phone. I asked in the G5 forums about 8.* development and was disappointed to see how little there was. My G3 currently has crDroid 4.0 android 8.1 on it and I was hoping to be able to move to a similar 8.* rom with a new phone.
I see there is some 8.* development with the G6 but it seems to be almost all related to the 870, the 872 doesn't seem to be mentioned. I am with metropcs so I presume I should get the T-Mobile H872 version of the G6. So that leads me to two questions:
1. Can a rom for the 870, for example RR, be installed on the 872?
2. Could I as a metropcs user successfully use an unlocked 870?
I would appreciate any thoughts/ideas on this matter.
You can unlock bootloader and flash custom ROM only on H870 and US997. On H872 you are stuck on stock OS which will probably be updated to Oreo soon.

Oh, well that certainly explains the lack of development then. Thanks for the info.
Do you know if the H870 can be used with metropcs/T-Mobile?

You can check here.. https://www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/7aRJIya/lg-h870-g6-td-lte-64gb/united-states
It seems like 4G/LTE would not work very good.
This is getting depressing. Maybe I'll be keeping my G3 for awhile longer. At least I have the choice of several 8.1 roms in active development.
Again, thanks for the info.

Custom ROM development is getting worse every year for all phones. Only OnePlus is still getting a lot of love, more than any other device. I'm planning to go for OnePlus 6 this summer.

AFAIK the H873 doesn't have a bootloader unlock or root, I believe only the US997 and H870 have unlocked bootloaders (maybe H872 has an unofficial bootloader unlock, I know there are ROMs for the H872), and I believe the H872, US997, and H870 are the only ones with root.... sorry
Yes but my question is anyone actually working on a solution or this a dead subject now?
There were some talks of devs trying to use the same method as the V30 root to other devices, I remember reading someone mentioned around September once everyone has oreo .. but I don't know what happened to the thread... I figured it wasn't a feasible method

Is the us996 "rootable" still?

Hi all, I just got a sprint ls997 but was disappointed to see that my firmware(or software, I dunno) update of ZVA prevents me from rooting the phone. Now I'm considering buying an unlocked (us996) version, but am having issues with this forum from inexperience. What I find is guides for installing custom ROMs, rooting, etc. but they seem not to talk about the requirements of your phone or the firmware updates you need to be before in order for it to work. I had this issue with my sprint version; the guide said you could install the ROM on an ls997, but did not mention anything else. So I just need someone who understands all of this modding stuff to tell me. Could I just go buy a us996 right now and be able to root it? Is it still possible?
Thank you!
As far as I know, pretty much any other V20 model is still rootable nowadays. There are different rooting guides for different models, and most should tell you the exact requirements if you look carefully. Regarding the US996, there are actually three variations of it, and one of them is by far the easiest V20 to root since it is the only one supported by LG for unlocking the bootloader on their website. The trick will be identifying and finding this unlocked US996 USA variant, and you can find more info in this older thread.

Hmm. Is the LS997 totally locked down in terms of unlocking the bootloader? I got a US996 and unlocked it, but unfortunately the service is not compatible with Sprint.
The only way an LS997 can be rooted is if it hasn't been updated past May 1, 2017 (Software version LS997ZV7 - I happen to be using one of these). Anything after that is irreversibly locked down, and unfortunately, those older LS997 models are very hard to find nowadays. Ironically, many of them have been cross-flashed with US996 firmware to be used on GSM networks, mostly overseas (you'd be able to tell from the sticker behind the battery if it hasn't been peeled off). And yes, the LS997 is the only V20 model that can be used on the Sprint network.
